Real Weddings

Real weddings Villa Vows Bethany & James Hoyle Bethany and James met through mutual school friends. The couple partied together with friends in Newcastle and the rest is history… James proposed to Bethany at home in a room filled with candles and flowers. James took Bethany out to Durham for the day and booked to have her nails done. She returned home to find James down on one knee. He then cooked Bethany’s favourite meal and popped open a bottle of champagne.

Special details The food was the highlight of the day. The couple used a company called Elite Catering based in Verona. They provided all of the aperitifs, canapés, wine, main menu and the cake. Post-meal, the couple opened the ‘gin bar’ boasting various gins, tonics and garnishes. As a wedding favour, each guest was given their own balloon glass with their name on so they could create their own gin-inspired cocktail. Music was provided by one of Bethany’s closest friends Cathryn Blythe, who sang her down the aisle. The flowers were very simple as the venue itself was so beautiful. The couple requested the Italian flowers of the season to complement the surroundings. The evening party was by the pool, lit fully by fairy lights and candles. A very intimate and enchanting celebration.

The venue The couple were married in Villa Zambonina, Verona - a 17th century antique manor house in the perfect position for exploring the medieval town. Bethany, James and their guests had full use of the villa for a week and stayed there with the bridesmaids and groomsmen. They had both their ceremony and reception at the villa. James’s dad is a registrar and he actually performed the ceremony. A very special touch.

The bride wore

A beautiful dress by La Novia design, complete with jewelled veil, a Swarovski necklace and earrings, and the same shoes her mum wore to her own wedding.

The honeymoon After over 10 days of wedding celebrations in Verona, Bethany and James were quite exhausted. The couple celebrated with a further five days by Lake Garda for some rest and relaxation.

The groom wore As it was very hot, the groom wore Zara chinos and a light jacket, boat shoes from Fenwick and Mulberry cufflinks.

The photographer

The cake

The main photographer was Maurice Mccone. The couple also had Italian photographer Giovanna April, who focused on the ceremony itself.

The cake was a Millefeuille - a delicious, French layer cake.

WYNYARD HALL Kirsty & Mark Kirsty Smith, aged 32, doctor - training to be a plastic surgeon Mark Cooper, aged 32, police officer – just promoted to Sargent. They are both from Doncaster, but have lived in Leeds for the last 8 years. Mark proposed in London after lunch at The Shard and Champagne and cocktails at Madison rooftop gardens.

The venue Wynyard Hall, although it is 1.5 hours away from home, the couple fell in love with it the first time they saw it. The ceremony was in the Chapel, followed by the wedding breakfast and evening celebration in the conservatory.

The bride wore A ‘Pracatan’ by Ian Stuart with some bespoke aspects - it had a fitted bodice and a long train which fell in waves.

The groom wore A Ted Baker suit with a bespoke pocketchief.

The cake A 4-tier cake with ruffles, lace detail and edible crystals from Burnett 4 Cakes. Plus a cake of cheese with personalised cake toppers (Mark as a policeman and Kirsty in doctor’s scrubs).

The transport Kirsty and Mark stayed at Wynyard Hall the night before the wedding, and enjoyed a pre-wedding dinner for all the bridesmaids, groomsmen and family that were staying over.

Special details Trio Vivo played a mix of classical music, movie themes and chart hits during drinks reception. Spoolfrog videographers from Bristol performed a marry-oke encouraging guest participation. Kirsty and Mark ordered additional canapes, to give their guests more choice, and arranged a cocktail hour, after which a Jazz band played.

The honeymoon An exotic honeymoon - Singapore, then Borneo to see orangutans and go scuba diving. Then Bali, to visit a monkey sanctuary, followed by the Gili Islands, and finally a music festival in Bali.

Fabulous Faces

If you’re soon to be a bride, a bridesmaid, or a mother of the bride, would you like to invigorate your skin in the lead up to the big day? Perhaps you dream of having a fresher, more youthful profile, fewer lines and wrinkles, or fuller-looking lips to complement your wedding look?

Image: Vera Mont

Onkar Dhanoya is clinical lead at Honour Health, a dental and skincare group with practices in Jesmond, Ponteland and Stanley. “We certainly see many patients who would like to boost their confidence ahead of an important event such as a wedding, and aestheticians can offer a wide range of clinically proven skin treatments to boost skin health and wellbeing. It’s all about planning ahead to look your best for the big day”, he says.

SKIN PEELS

“IT’S ALL ABOUT PLANNING AHEAD TO LOOK YOUR BEST FOR THE BIG DAY”

Skin peels help to diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, even skin tone, reduce pore size, reduce the appearance of blemishes, soften shallow acne scars, and increase skin glow. Neostrata ProSytem is a superficial peeling system that achieves outstanding results with no downtime. Neostrata products contain naturally occurring acids found in fruits and other foods, which help to loosen and remove the excess build up of dead skin cells to exfoliate and smooth the skin.

EDERMASTAMP

WEDDING COUNTDOWN “Depending on the skin concerns of the patient, several sessions may be required, so begin a course of treatment up to six months in advance, with the last treatment being three weeks prior to the wedding.”

eDermastamp is an electronic micro-needling treatment which stimulates natural regenerative responses in the skin, creating a smoother look. This clinically proven procedure is hugely effective for reducing the appearance of lines and wrinkles, acne scarring and sun damaged skin.

HONOUR POUT AND SMILE

WEDDING COUNTDOWN “Begin a course of treatment three months in advance, with the last treatment being two weeks prior to the wedding.”

This combination package starts with the Honour Diamond Airflow – a dedicated mouth hygiene appointment using our state-of-the-art Airflow system for a deep clean and fresh mouth, followed by teeth whitening. Four weeks later, you return to us for your lip filler treatment, which then takes up to four weeks to reveal full results. You’ll have a full cupid’s bow framing a gleaming smile in time for the wedding.

HONOUR PLASMA FACIAL

A gold standard plasma facial treatment which uses the body’s own natural healing powers. Plasma is separated from a patient’s own blood then placed into the skin. The platelets then release growth factors (proteins that help to heal injured tissue), stimulating repair, increasing volume and rejuvenating the skin.

WEDDING COUNTDOWN “To allow adequate time for the three stages of this package, begin this treatment three months in advance.”

part of the face, making it appear immediately more youthful. No downtime, no pain – just amazing results.

WEDDING COUNTDOWN “Begin four weeks in advance (for a single treatment). This gives the skin time to heal and look at its most radiant in time for the wedding bells.”

WEDDING COUNTDOWN “Begin this treatment three weeks in advance, as it can take up to two weeks before the results fully appear.”

DERMAL FILLERS

MUSCLE RELAXANTS

Dermal fillers improve tone, plump up the skin, and create a more youthful profile. They restore youthful fullness to cheeks, soften smokers’ lines, plump up lips, restore tear troughs to reduce the appearance of dark circles, and hydrate the skin tissue using hyaluronic acid, replacing lost volume.

“Muscle relaxants (Botulinum Toxin) help soften and relax furrowed brows, erase lines and wrinkles and slow the signs of ageing to a gentler pace, creating a fresher, more youthful appearance. It is a little-known fact that muscle relaxants are also highly effective in the treatment of excessive sweating – known as hyperhidrosis. If you’re worried about nerves getting the better of you on the big day and causing unsightly patches on your clothes, then this could be the ideal solution.”

WEDDING COUNTDOWN “Begin this treatment four weeks in advance. The results will last for about six months.”

WEDDING COUNTDOWN “Begin this treatment three weeks in advance, as you will start to see the effects up to two weeks following the treatment, which will then last between three and five months.”

HONOUR POWER BROW

“A stunning brow-lifting treatment uses muscle relaxants (Botulinum Toxin) to open the eye area, creating a beautiful arch, and lifts the upper

A Majestic Marriage

The couple Rebecka and Mark Nixon met nine years ago at the Diamond Club in Ponteland. Rebecka was friends with Mark’s brother, but hadn’t met Mark until they crossed paths on a night out and began their journey together. Mark popped the question while the couple were travelling the USA in June 2015, staying in the stunning resort of Amangiri in Utah. Rebecka was in a complete state of shock when Mark got down on one knee in the desert. The couple enjoyed the rest of their holiday before flying home to celebrate with friends and family.

The bride wore

The cake

Rebecka wore a beautiful Berta Bridal gown from a shop in Scotland called Opus Atelier. She made three, four-hour journeys up and down the country as it was a designer she always loved. The bride wore a necklace headpiece from the same shop, a pair of glitzy Jimmy Choo heels from Selfridges’ Shoe Lounge in London and a pair of personalised converse for dancing.

The couple opted against a cake. Instead, they gifted guests with a special ‘hangover kit’ to help people with the recovery the following day. Genius!

Special details Rebecka’s best friend and bridesmaid, Jessica Avison, performed an acoustic set during the reception drinks. Following the reception, guests were seated under twinkling fairy lights and illuminated palm trees. The tables

The honeymoon The couple are currently planning a return trip to the West Coast of America as their wedding journey comes full circle - a special place for the pair, after the proposal two years ago. They look forward to a US road trip, travelling to the likes of Santa Monica and Lake Tahoe.

Real Wedding

Real weddings

No Place Like Home Therase & David Nugent Therase and David live together in Killcare, New South Wales. Originally from South Tyneside, Therase met Dave on a dating website while on tour with Northern Stage near his hometown of Lytham St Annes. Therase was feeling a little disillusioned with love and Dave was looking for someone to go to Cirque du Soleil with! Dave popped the question on a gorgeous, sunny day on the Central Coast in Australia. On an ordinary afternoon, goofing around together at home, Dave got down on one knee out of the blue. It wasn’t planned, but it just felt like the right moment.

The cake Therase’s dad’s partner, Anne, made a delicious fruit cake, complete with decorative flowers to match the purple colour scheme. The couple also had a cheese-stacked cake by the Northumberland Cheese Company.

Special details

The venue

The flowers were almost entirely picked from the garden of Therase’s dad and partner in Thropton, Northumberland. Table decorations were finished with candles and photographs, with each table named after the couple’s favourite places in Australia. Favours of Blackpool rock were gifted to guests as a nod to Dave’s hometown. Dave’s brother Adrian playing acoustic guitar before and during the ceremony was a special touch. For something a little different, caricaturist John Roger was on hand to doodle, draw and entertain the guests.

Therase is from Hebburn and always wanted to get married in the North East. The couple have many happy memories of times spent together in Northumberland, so it seemed the perfect place to wed. Ellingham Hall was the venue of choice, hiring the entire house for the weekend.

The bride wore

Therase wore a Sottero and Midgely floor length gown from Abby Bridal in Sydney. She finished the look with an Anna Campbell Bridal headpiece, an Eliza Cuff bracelet and peach shoes by Rachel Simpson. Hair was done by Simone Whitehead Bridal, and makeup by Cordelia Mason.

The honeymoon The happy couple travelled to Bali and the Gili Islands. They added to their post-wedding celebrations with a skiing trip to Japan in January.

The groom wore

The photographer

A tailor-made three-piece from Montagio in Sydney. The couple designed the suit together, in a rustic, English country-gentleman style. Dave wore a floral tie and pocket handkerchief from Poser Club UK. The groomsmen wore their own navy suits with a different floral tie and pocket handkerchief.

Charlotte Eve was the photographer on the day. Her shots are unique, beautiful and honest. The couple captured moving moments with the help of Jon Lunt from Top Table Films.

Plan Ahead Book your hen party - this is where the serious fun starts!

6 - 9 Months • Send your ‘save the date’ invites. • Organise dress fittings with your bridesmaids and order the dresses. • Book your honeymoon - there’s a whole world out there to explore as newlyweds! • Order your wedding rings.

3 - 6 Months • Order your groomsmen’s suits. • Begin your hair and makeup trials. • Order your wedding cake.

2 - 3 Months

• Buy your accessories. • Send out your invitations.

Tick box time It started with a list…

The wedding planning process is an exciting time to share with a loved one. But from the proposal plans and the venue research, to the cake-tasting tours, the flower-picking fun and the all-important dress-shopping, it can be a little overwhelming. The ‘wedmin’ can often take over. Venues confirmed? Deposits paid? Seating plan sorted? Not to mention the budget and a contingency fund for any unexpected costs. Legal issues arising from your marriage are the less obvious details to consider, but they can be every bit as important as your ‘something blue’. Take a look at our wedding planning timeline to keep you in check. Lists at the ready…

• Apply for your marriage license. • Consider your wedding dress alterations. • Choose your menu(s).

One Month • Pull together your final guest list and double-check numbers. • Plan your seating chart. • Have your final wedding dress fitting and ensure all bridesmaid dresses and groomsmen’s suits fit. • Print out your order of service, menus or anything else you may need on the day. • Buy gifts for your bridal party and parents.

Immediately • Work out how many people you expect to attend the day and evening of your wedding. Rough numbers are fine at first, however this can often dictate which venue is suitable.

• Send your picture list to your photographer. • Look for your dream dress. Research styles and visit bridal boutiques.

9 - 12 Months

The Week Before • Finalise your seating chart.

• Order your dress. • Confirm details with all of your suppliers.

• Draw up a budget, so you know how much money to have to play with.

• Select your bridal party. • Book your key suppliers.

• View and decide on a wedding venue and date - you can’t start without knowing these details!

• View potential bands or DJs and book your chosen form of entertainment.

• Begin researching suppliers, including photographers, florists and cake-makers.

• Research/book accommodation for any guests who are travelling from afar.
