“A Better World” Foundation

Time to enjoy good results A while ago we embarked on a great journey as the Foundation launched its first ever volunteer program. It included two separate projects - IOMC (The Institute for Mother and Child Protection): Happy First Steps and Mia’s Children: A Future for Our Children - and was developed according to the legislation in force. Now let’s take a step back and take a look at the results:

+

3 main rounds of presentations, one per location

+

46 registered candidates

+

10 active volunteers from Insurance

+

16 active volunteers from Retail and Wholesale

+

only positive feedback

A word from our project coordinators… Mia’s Children Voluntary Project Basically, when we started this volunteering program we aimed to increase the aid we were already given to Mia’s Children Association. Besides the financial help, we wanted to assist in day-to-day chores or educational activities. Moreover, we wanted to involve our colleagues as much as possible. After the three-month pilot, the results were above all expectations as we were able to engage a great number of people and facilitate a lot of the activities that normally occur in a household. What is more important is that the children interacted with the volunteers, became more receptive and open, even more inventive and communicative, and improved their performance in school. Mrs. Mia, the children, and all of those involved in the project have to thank and congratulate all the volunteers. Corina Voicu for Mia’s Children IOMC Voluntary Project A child is a miracle, a ray of light, but is also a great responsibility. The volunteer program at IOMC was created to give an emotional support to the abandoned babies and an insurance that the most important years in the development of a baby are taken very seriously. Hopefully, this is what we have accomplished by holding the babies, feeding or encouraging them at every step. Raluca Modaran for IOMC

…and some thoughts from our volunteers… I went there on a Saturday afternoon. We left at about 13.30 and came back at 17.00. I took the kids to see a movie and, after that, to Kiseleff park to play a little. Alexandru Lungeanu, Business Analyst, Retail Banking Sales As a general impression, I think it is an excellent program and the kids are absolutely great! It is a challenge, but I like it! Cornelia Stefan, Project Manager Mostly we helped them with their homework – Math, Romanian, anything they needed – and the children responded well every time. They were happy to see us and eager to learn. Alexandra Arhip, Jr. Lending Risk Analyst We hope that these projects will be even more successful in the future and that they will grow as complexity and proportions. We think that we have strong arguments in favor of turning this program in a permanent one and as there are more and more persons that show interest in this program, we kindly remind you that you can not become a permanent volunteer, you still can help with specific requests.

Paint for a smile on November 20th The Global Challenge Since ING Chances for Children was introduced in 2005, countless employees have donated their time and money to the program. We do our best to share their stories with employees in other parts of the world, but with operations in over 40 countries, it’s difficult to paint a complete picture of just how much employees do for their communities and for children in need. A Yearly Event That’s why we’ve decided to create an annual event that will capture the charitable spirit of ING employees everywhere. On November 20th 2009 – the United Nations International Day of the Child – employees across the organization will come together for the second ING Chances for Children Global Challenge and volunteer, fundraise or celebrate their team’s outstanding achievements in community development. What do we have planned in Romania? We will celebrate this day as well, in our very own special way. After last year’s book collection, this time we will open special workshops and paint for the benefit of children. More details will follow soon, but until then prepare your paint and brushes…
