In the year 1408 the baker and millers founded their own organisation. Shortly after that the pastry-chefs joined them and in 1958 the shipmen of the «Pfisternnauen» became part of the organisation. In the first half of the 15th century the Pfistern guild became the legal owner of the building, which earlier belonged to the monastery «Im Hof». The guild house was mainly used for negotiations and gatherings of the bakers and millers. It was a big advantage being situated right next to the town hall in which the wheat and flour market was held.
As producers of staple food the bakers had a very good reputation and were very wealthy in those times. The pastry-chefs made sweets and cakes that only the wealthy people could afford. Flour and bread prices were decided in the gatherings which took place in the guild house. Every current guild member has his own family crest and today the family crest decorating the wooden walls of our restaurant.
The guild had secular and religious duties. The guild members would take any opportunity to get together and enjoy a good meal with delicious wine. Each year they would celebrate the «Bot», a traditional annual get-together of the guild.
In the early days the vegetable tradesman had the right to sell their fruit and vegetables under the arcades «Unter der Egg». Until 1977 (the year the building was rebuilt) family Emch had a vegetable stall under arcades of the guild house, where they sold their fresh fruit and vegetables daily. After the rebuilding of the guild house the market stalls were moved to the arcades of the town hall. Today the weekly Lucerne market (Tue & Sat) and the fishmarket (Tue, Fri & Sat) take place under the arcade «Unter der Egg».
In 1829 the guild was altered to an organisation and on 5th November 1874 the building was sold to the brothers Sigrist who ran it as a hotel with restaurant. In 1955 Alois Galliker became owner of the house. In 1977 the association of the bakers and pastry-chefs of Lucerne bought the building and founded the association «Guild house zu Pfistern» giving the house its traditional purpose and value back.
In 1894 Alois and Joseph Sigrist assigned Seraphin Weingartner to paint the south and east façade of the building. In memory of the history and function of the house Seraphin Weingartner designed two intertwining vines carrying the 59 family crests of the members of the guild who once purchased the guild house in 1408. The artist found pictures of the family crests in an armorial of the Pfistern guild of 1408. Oskar Limacher and Emil Segesser completed the actual work.
Liselotte Schmid was tenant of the Pfistern for over 20 years. With passion and enthusiasm she brought back the spirit of the old guild house. After refurbishing in 2009 a new era began, the family establishment Eltschinger with Remimag Gastronomie AG became the host of the restaurant with following motto: «Pfistern, our daily bread. Young – fresh – bold».

These brief descriptions of our banquetting facilities should help you get a better picture of our location:
«Unter der Egg» has 200 seats and has a Bistro- / Café- / Biergarden-atmosphere. We offer light snacks up to complete luncheons. It’s the exact right spot for a cool glas of champagne in the summer or a hot mulled wine in the winter or an afternoon snack amongst friends. Just sit and enjoy the arcades and the waterside of the River Reuss.
The «Beiz» has 60 seats and has a traditional and rustic atmosphere. Make yourself comfortable on the cosy balcony or in the wood boarded parlour.
The «Pfisternstube» (apx. 45–65 seats; 80 seats during carnival) has an inviting, charming atmosphere. Enjoy traditional dishes with a spectacular view of the theatre, the Jesuit church, the famous wooden bridge and the Mount Pilatus. Whether you come for a candle-light dinner, a business dinner or a family get together, we can assure you an unforgettable atmosphere.
The guild hall on the second floor offers space for 25–60 guests. It’s perfect for meetings, seminars, family celebrations or other festivities. The hall has a dividing wall which offers more possibilities.

You will receive a written confirmation of your event. The banquet confirmation comes to effect after written confirmation by both parties. This can be done by mail, email or fax.
Corkage
If you prefer to bring your own wine, we will charge CHF 35.– per 75 cl bottle.
Decoration
Our prices include a small table decoration with flowers and matching candle. Naturally you can bring your own decoration with if you wish. If you need any advice our decorator will gladly be of assistance. We can arrange any kind of flower decoration at cost price. In this case you may take the decoration home after the event.
Desserts
Should you wish to bring your own wedding cake, pie or other dessert, we will charge CHF 5.–per present person.
Driving directions / parking
There are various parking facilities in the area of the Pfistern. The multi-storey car parks Kesselturm, Bahnhof and Kantonalbank are just around the corner. The main railway station of Lucerne is just 5 minutes away.
We can arrange a selection of surprise gifts for your guests such as a parmesan grater, wine of the year, Caffè del Capo and more. Other gift items can be found on www.weinundmehr.ch.
You would like to prolong your celebration? No problem! After 0:30 a.m. we charge CHF 300.–for the first hour and CHF 200.– for each additional hour.
All our meals are prepared with fresh seasonal ingredients. Whenever possible, we use fruit and vegetables from the local farmers and producers. Should you need any assistance with your choice of menu do not hesitate to contact us. Banquets are calculated for groups of 15 people or more. Please let us know your menu choice (the same for all the participants), a vegetarian alternative is of course possible. Smaller groups (under 15 people) can order from our «a la carte» menu.
To avoid any misunderstanding, you should let us know the exact number of people two weeks before the event. We will accept a margin of error of 20 % of the first registered number of people. We need this information to calculate our purchasing, to plan our staff as well as for billing purposes. 48 hours before the event we can tolerate only a discrepancy of 5 % of the finale reported number. We can not account for any last minute changes.
The settlement of the account is either in cash, by creditcard or payable within 14 days net. We reserve the right to charge a prepayment in the total amount of the menu (excluding drinks), payable three days before the event. The remaining sum can be paid cash, by credit card or by invoice (payable within 14 days net). All prices include VAT. Please note that individual payment is not possible for groups.
In case of cancellation of a confirmed event, we kindly request a written notice. In addition, we will charge the following fee: from 14 days prior the date of the event we will charge 50 % of the agreed arrangement imposed on the number of people registered.
Please take note that we do not send invoices abroad. We expect prepayment (menu price multiplied by number of guests attending) 10 days prior to the event by credit card or bank transfer. Upon receipt of payment we will confirm your event.
We are very proud of the selection on our wine list. We have over 300 top wines including good Swiss wines, well-known delicacies from the region and all over the world. Our selection leaves nothing to be desired. Should you be catering for more than 11 people, we recommend you choose the wine in advance (delivery time apx. 10 days). This will allow us to prepare everything to your satisfaction.
