My “Dude” How do you put pen to paper or keystrokes to tablet about the life of a man I call “Dude”? I think every girl loves their father deeply. There is this special bond that cannot be broken. My relationship with Dude was no exception. As a child, where Dude went I was not far behind him. There he was this six foot man everyone knew, with me standing in his shadow, peeking from behind wanting to know everyone that knows him. My best and most treasure memories are being around Dude, his brother Felix and his cousin Eugean. Oh my lord…when those three (3) got together you knew you will be laughing for hours. They loved each other deeply. They worked on cars together, party together and got into a lot of trouble together. Many times they would spend the entire weekend together. I will wake up on Sunday morning and they will all be in our living room up all night talking and making fun of each other. They showed me as a young girl that family can love each other deeply. As I grew into my teenage years I was still attached to Dude…if he was not home I will asked where he was, usually a few blocks away at Uncle Felix or Auntie Lillie’s home. One day I gave Dude and Uncle Felix my first car to work on. The carburetor was sticking. Dude took the car around to Felix to work on it. About 2 hours later Dude called me on the phone and said, “short-butt your car is on fire.” I rush around to Uncle Felix house and there stood Dude and Felix looking at my car, burnt to a crisp! Dude looked at me, and I looked and him and he said, “I told you to buy a Pontiac, Fords don’t last.” All I could do is laugh. Dude’s personality was like no other. When said something he meant it. Dude can be so serious, but yet so funny. Dude can be very stern, but fair. Dude could be stubborn, but understanding. As a grown woman with a child of my own I came to understand Dude even more as my father. He was a strong, proud, and serious man that knew what he wanted. He loved and missed his siblings and cousins so much! I remember him asking me after the passing of his last brother Tommy, why he was left alone, I told him he was not alone, we are still here!

Love you Dude, Your Short-Butt and Loving daughter Debra Pops, Thanks for the love and support you shown me in your own special way. Because of you I value hard work and strive daily to be the best husband and father. Forever Loving You! Your baby son Reggie 2|

Willie Westley Hill was born on February 24, 1933 to Catha Lee Hill (Whitfield) and Lee Void Hill in Okolona, Mississippi. Years later Lee Void moved his wife and five children (Elzie, Lorraine, Lillie, Willie and Felix to Detroit, Michigan, where the family attended the Church of God in Christ. Willie also had five additional siblings born from his father ( James, Jimmy, Clifton, Thomas and Helen). All of Willie's siblings preceded him in death, with the exception of Helen in California and Jimmy in Grand Rapids. One sister in-law Mozel Hill (Elzie wife). Willie met Josephine (Robinson) Hill in Detroit and was united in holy matrimony on September 1, 1954. From this union was born six children, Melissa (Ardel), Ronald (Edna), Dennis (Francis), Debra, Shasta (Michael) and Reggie (Renee). Willie loved his family. Not only did he care for his wife and kids, but also was the care taker of his sibling’s grandkids, who passed on before him. He absolutely loved kids. The time you see him smile the most, was when he was in the presence of his grandkids.

He leaves 22 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, 6 great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He had one grandchild (Mylan Hicks) who precedes him in death. Willie joined the United States Army on July 25, 1950 during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1952. Willie started working in 1954 and spent his working career as a welder and retired to a quiet life. His favorite sport was fishing. He enjoyed fishing with Sonny (nephew) and Terry (cousin), which is one of the things he told them he will miss most. Willie was a pillar of strength to his family and friends, and we will truly miss him.
