The Obituary of

AlmaLouise

HUTCHINS 

Alma Louise (Albert) Hutchins was welcomed to the late Ramsey and Velma Albert on August 8, 1934 in Brighton, Alabama. Her brothers Wilbert, Ivan, Cornell and sisters Ida Bell Albert, Lillie Bell Pippins, Earnest Gordon, Gladys Davis, Emma Albert all preceded her in death. Mother Hutchins was educated in the Jefferson County, Brighton, Alabama school system. She was known affectionately as “Lil Sista” to all those who loved and knew her. As a young child she learned to play the piano and played for the Oak Grove Baptist Church Choir in Brighton, Alabama. On March 8, 1952 she married the love of her life Walter Lee Hutchins Sr. to this union, 3 children were born Walter Jr., Livinia and Diana. By the leading of her husband they relocated to Detroit and she rededicated her life to Christ at Gratiot Avenue Presbyterian Church. She was an ordained Elder, Teacher for Vacation Bible School, a willing worker and a loyal member until her health began to decline. Her favorite scriptures were Psalms 23 and Matthew 6:9-13. Some of her favorite songs were “Amazing Grace”, “Somebody Prayed for Me” and “He Has the Whole World in His Hands.” God blessed Mother Hutchins with a special talent of crocheting. She would crochet dresses for her grand-daughters, made small pin-on Christmas wreaths, pot holders, scarfs, pillows, tablecloths, bedspreads, baby blankets and many more items. That was her passion and her way of giving and sharing her love. You would often see Mother Hutchins sitting at her dining room table writing and preparing to mail Birthday cards, Mother’s Day cards, Christmas cards and not often a sympathy card. She would write a personal message inside each one of them. Mother Hutchins loved to spend time with her family. Cooking for the holidays 4|

she said, that was her way of keeping the family together. Each year from 2006 until 2016 she would have a family reunion, going to Cedar Point, Michigan Adventure, Belle Isle or Red Oaks Water Park, with a “Tee Shirt” of color for everyone. She would often tell you to “attend to your own responsibility, obligation and your commitments.” Every Mother’s Day she would dress in her red ensemble, the hat, suit and shoes to match. Red was Mother Hutchins favorite color. When spring came, she would work in her garden planting tomatoes, cabbage, collard greens, peppers, flowers and more. During her earlier years she was employed at East Grand Boulevard Convalescent Home working the night shift as a nurse aid. She later was injured and became disabled but she didn’t let that stop her, after which she began, “Granny’s day care” in her home. Mother Hutchins was a devoted wife for 54 years when her husband passed away in 2006. Mother Hutchins leaves to cherish her memories, 3 children: Walter Lee Hutchins, Jr.; Detroit, MI, Livinia (A.B.) Campbell; Southgate, MI, Diana Hutchins-McCullum; Detroit, MI., one brother Franklin Albert; Detroit, MI. 12 grandchildren: Chantell and LaDoonna, who proceeded her in death. Taneesha, Pamela, Yamika, Waleeah, Kindria, Tamika, Jason, Michael, Brian and Sable. 16 great grandchildren, Alana Lee, who proceeded her in death; 4 great-great grandchildren. Extended family, Alicia and Abe Campbell, Cameron Campbell and Jaylon Campbell who proceed her in death. She also leaves memories to her God children, Alan and Shernetta Evans, Sam Skinner, James Austin, Jay Smith and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church family and friends.

In Memory of You

Granny, I’m glad I was stopping by more often before this untimely death. You are the definition of grandmother. Still held it down after the death of your husband. I love you always granny, fly high till we meet again. Brian 

All the years I spent sleeping over, walking to VBS from your house with all my cousins is something that set a early stand of what a grandmother is to me. Not sure how all 11 grandchildren (Sable wasn’t born yet) fit into Bessie .. that Plymouth Duster. I loved the times we’ve spent together as a family and as an adult, one on one. You will always be like no other, my Granny. Love always, Waleeah Turner 6|

Granny The times we spent together are priceless. When I came to visit, you would say “there is my angel”. You would always tell me you appreciated all I do but I appreciated everything you did for me. You cared and loved our family, not only in words but in deeds. You showed love to your kids all the way down to the great, great, grand kids. You taught me how to make homemade rolls that took all day to make but was worth it! I will miss our talks especially the ones when we laughed so hard both our faces turned red. I’m sad that you are gone but relieved that you are not suffering any longer. I will miss you dearly. Love always and forever Your granddaughter, Pamela

What is an Aunt An Aunt is a special gift, Received from God above. He starts out with compassion, Then adds an abundance of love. She taught you to do so many things, Caring for you as if you were her own. You could talk to her about anything, Always welcoming you into her home. Her dedication is unconditional, To that there is no end. And as you get older She becomes more like a friend. She is always willing to help you, Any way that she can. Watching you grow up, She was your biggest fan. She has tremendous faith in you, She just has that special touch. It’s no wonder then dear Aunt, Why you are loved so much! From Tracy 

Your inspirational advice will never be forgotten. You were always so proud of me, and I will not let you down. Michael |7
