John I Dent Cup Preview: Round 17 Saturday 18th July
MATCH OF THE ROUND: Queanbeyan (2) v Uni-Norths (5) @ Campese Oval First Grade: 3.05pm, Reserve Grade: 1.40pm, Colts 12.15pm Previous Result: Queanbeyan 22 defeated Uni-Norths 20 – Round 12, 2015
A bit of luck was on Queanbeyan side last weekend, as the Whites kicked a penalty after the siren to beat Wests 20-18 in a battle for second spot on the ladder. Queanbeyan had a penalty goal attempt go wide only seconds earlier, before the ball was thrown dead illegally by a Wests player resulting in another shot at goal in which kicker Mitch Douch calmly slotted. This weekend Queanbeyan will need to secure either a win or two bonus points if they want a place in the major semi-final as Wests have a bye and gain an automatic 4 competition points. Uni-Norths put on a show last weekend for the clubs ‘Old Boys’ day, running in 9 tries to 3 to win 61-19 against Easts. Front Rower Ray Dobson scored a hat trick while captain David Bennett also cross for a double. While the finals are a no go for the Owls in 2015, they have an opportunity to finish the season on a high and with some silverware as the look to retain the ‘Pat Matthews’ Cup. This match has traditionally be close between the two clubs since its inception so expect both teams to come out firing with plenty to play for. Gungahlin (6) v Tuggeranong (1) @ Nicholls Oval First Grade: 3:05pm, Reserve Grade: 1:40pm, Colts: 12:15pm Previous Result: Tuggeranong 50 defeated Gungahlin 15 – Round 11, 2015 Gungahlin will be looking to upset Tuggeranong before Vikings embark on the finals series and with the inclusion of Ita Vaea for the first time this year, the Eagles will be confident it is possible. Ita’s inclusion will see him team up with 2014 Macdougall medallist Rocky Illolahia again, with both players adding significant impact in both attack and defence when playing together. Luke Duffey also returns to the starting side after serving a two match suspension and will team up with Ryan Goodall in the centres. Connor O’Byrne also gets are start in the second row with Ben McGee shifting from number 8 to the row for Ita’s inclusion. Tuggeranong were at their best last weekend, making light work of Royals 55-7 as both Frankie Fainifo and Jake Knight scored doubles for the men in red and white. Vikings have now secure their 6th consecutive minor premiership which is an amazing achievement by the club. This weekend Jordan Jackson Hope has been named at fly half and will me his starting debut for the club at 1st grade while Ernest Suavai returns to fullback after missing last weekend’s match. Easts (7) v Royal @ Phillip Oval First Grade: 3.05pm, Reserve Grade: 1.40pm Previous Result: Royals 64 defeated Easts 12 – Round 11, 2015 Royals were not match for Tuggeranong at Viking Park on the weekend. The 55-7 loss was one of the clubs biggest losses in recent years. The clubs has an opportunity to turn it around this weekend before they take on either Queanbeyan or Wests in the Minor Semi Final. Faelelei Sione will get his 1st grade debut for the clubs this weekend and will partner colt’s team mate Suita Tai in the front row. Eddie Powell will also be making his 1st grade run on debut at number 8 which will be a valuable experience for him. Easts were unable to contain Uni-Norths last weekend leaking four tries in the first half to be behind 26-0 on the score board. However to Easts credit they continue to go toe to toe with the Owls and managed to score three late tries to bring the score back, but for every tried they scored, the Owls hit back. Second rower Joe Beckett was Easts best on ground and was supported by Ash Kenny and Ted Goener

MATCH PREVIEW Queanbeyan 2nd Grade have locked up the 2015 Minor Premiership after securing a 10 all draw against Wests. Being the final game before the finals The Whites will be looking to fine tune final preparations before taking on 2nd place in the Major Semi Final. The Owls thrashed Easts last weekend winning 87-0 which include two players scoring hattricks. Uni-Norths currently sit 4th on the ladder and need to either win or secure a bonus point in this game or run the risk of missing out on the finals if Royals secure a bonus point victory this weekend.
Queanbeyan colts are locked in a battle for the final position in the final series with Gungahlin with both teams on the same number of points and same number of wins. If neither side win this weekend or secure bonus points, ladder positions will then be determined by point’s differential percentage. UniNorths though have safely secured there finals position and like most sides will be working towards their finals game. The last time these two played, Queanbeyan one, so expect this to be another close affair.

MATCH PREVIEW This matchup is a must win for both teams and will determine finals positions. For Queanbeyan, a win will secure them a spot in the Major Semi final, as Wests who are third, have the bye this weekend. The Owls need to win and hope result go their way if they want to finish the season in 4th spot and play finals rugby. Last weekend both clubs have impressive wins, with Queanbeyan edging out Wests and Uni racking up a 74-0 win over Easts.
For the Owls this is their last game of the season and will be out to finish on a high and disrupt Queanbeyan’s preparation for the final. Queanbeyan no matter the result on the weekend will finish the season in 3rd spot and will play Royals in the Minor Semi Final. Queanbeyan were outclassed by Wests last weekend going down 37-7 and will want to bounce back go into the finals with a win under their belt.

MATCH PREVIEW Royals must win this game with a bonus point if they are to have any chances of making the finals. Currently in 5th by 5 points, if they win with a bonus point, and Uni-Norths do no secure a single competition point, both clubs will be on equal points, but Royals will go through as they will have more wins than Uni-Norths. Easts were unable to match it with Uni-Norths at North Oval, beaten comfortably.
Royals thirds are out of the finals this years, which is rather disappointing for last year’s Grand Finalist. Being the last round, Royals like all clubs playing their last game will be out to finish on a high and celebrate a win. Easts are in the same boat, especially as this is their last home game of the season, and nothing is better than winning at home in front of the clubs supporters.

MATCH PREVIEW Gungahlin will be out to finish their season off on a high, after having the bye last weekend. But in doing so they will be taking on a fired up Vikings who went down to an impressive Royals outfit 14-12. Tuggeranong have now lost consecutive matches and need to either secure a win or a bonus point if they are to finish the season 2nd and play in the major semifinal as Wests have the bye this weekend.
Gungahlin in the last encounter were unable to hold onto a lead, going down 24-20 to Uni-Norths in an entertaining match. This fixture the Eagles will be have to be on point as they look to upset Vikings and hope results go their way so they can play finals footy. Tuggeranong scored 4 tries last weekend, but were unable prevent Royals from getting the win, which means Royals have secured the Minor Premiership for 2015.

MATCH PREVIEW The Eagles are in the same boat as Uni-Norths, and need to win as those two clubs are battling it out for that final spot in the top four. Fresh from the bye, Gungahlin have been prepping for this game. The last time they played Vikings, Tuggeranong won by 28 points. Tuggeranong have secured the Minor Premiership for 2015 after their 38-19 win over Royals. Vikings are 12 points clear of next best Queanbeyan.
Gungahlin 4th grade currently sit one point behind Uni-Norths on the ladder and would love to secure a win and finish the season off on a positive after a disappointing season. Vikings on the other hand are yet to lose a game this season, comfortably taking out the Minor Premiership with next best Wests on 39 competition points. The last time these played, Gungahlin unfortunately had to forfeit giving Vikings a 20-0 bonus point victory.

PLAYER OF THE MATCH Round 16 Vs.
Congratulations to Tai Valeni of Queanbeyan. Tai was named ‘SKINS Man of the Match’ for his outstanding performance in the round 16 clash between Wests & Queanbeyan. Tai will received a skins prize pack for his efforts.
2015 WOMEN’S COMPETITION ROUND 9 Royals have skipped out to a seven point lead on top of the table after score a bonus point victory over second place Tuggeranong. In less than favourable conditions, Royals were able to take advantage of Vikings being a player down for at least half the second half to outscore Tuggeranong 28-14. The game was in the balance when Tuggeranong lost a player, which in the end proved to be the difference. However this weekend Vikings will get the opportunity to get square with Royals as the two meet against, this time at Griffith oval.

Uni-Norths playing their last game at home for the season, we far too good Gungahlin winning 75-0. The victory has last year’s champions within two points of Tuggeranong on the ladder. Again owls will take on Gungahlin, this time at Nicholls where the whole Gungahlin club will be playing. The girls competition has two more rounds two go before their finals, with all games next weekend played at Viking Park in line with the Premier Division finals.

FIRST & SECOND DIVISION COMPETITION FIRST DIVISION:
SOUTH COAST MONARO - SECOND DIVISION
With the two top teams in 1st grade Goulburn and Hall going head to head last weekend, it had all the likings to be a very exciting and close encounter, however this match was a very much one sided affair. The Dirty Reds continue to demonstrate why they are the top team with a relentless 49-0 victory. The second grade game though was one of intense moments with Hall testing Goulburn, but unfortunately came up short, going down 10-8.
Last weekend saw some blow out score lines in the matches between Milton and Braidwood and Crookwell and Taralga. Milton racked up a half century, running in 10 tries, but only converted 3 winning 56-8. Crookwell scored a bonus point victory in front of their fans against Taralga. The victory was even sweater, as Taralga handed the Dogs a loss at home in the most important game of the year, the Grand Final.
In the other game in round 12, Yass were unable to secure a most important victory at home against Cooma. The Rams did claim a bonus point, but Cooma were too good and have now won three matches in a row.
The other game that took place was a 15 all draw between Boorowa and Jindabyne in unusual circumstances. Shortly after Jindabyne scored to level the scores up with about 15 minutes left, the referee was unable to continue refereeing after sustaining an injury. As a result full time in the game was called and both teams had to share the competition points.
This weekend’s match of the round will be Yass v RMC as both teams are playing for a top 4 spot. RMC lead by one point, and have matches in hand as does Yass. Expect this one to be a tight encounter. Off the field Yass will be auctioning off their ANZAC jersey with all money raised going to Soldier On. Goulburn will jump on the bus in round 13 and travel to Cooma. This game also could go down to the wire as Cooma are always a vastly different side when at home. Hall will have the bye with ADFA being unavailable. Second Grade: TEAM – 2nd Goulburn
This weekend Bungendore and Crookwell clash in the match of the round. Bungendore will be at home, making the task for Crookwell rather difficult, however it is not out of reach. Taralga will be host Jindabyne, which while ladder position say Jindabyne are the better team, expect this game to come down to the wire as Taralga look to try and force themselves into that wild card spot. Down coast Batemans Bay take on Braidwood with only 3 points separating them which will be the only match in their zone this weekend.
