Magic, with a side of home fries Magicians need a healthy breakfast, too, so magician Adam Zimmerman, who travelled from Ottawa to entertain the crowd at Saturday’s Horton Winter Carnival, powers up with a pre-show meal. Also enjoying breakfast is, at right, Walter Miller.
News - There could be two more apartment buildings in Renfrew if town council approves plans to redevelop the former Christian School on Stewart Street and Parkview Free Methodist Church on King Street. The two applications were presented during a public planning meeting at town hall Monday, Jan. 26. Tom Cobus filed an application on behalf of himself and Kent Bulmer to rezone property at 563 King St. The applicants hope to redevelop the building to accommodate an apartment dwelling of four units of about 1,200 square feet each. Two units will be on the main floor and two in the basement, Renfrew town planner Ivan Burton said. The property, which was formerly Parkview Free Methodist Church, has a frontage of 48 metres, depth of 30 metres and a lot area of 0.15 hectare. The structure has a surface area of about 2,500 square feet. Reeve Peter Emon chaired the meeting in the absence of Mayor Don Eady, who had the flu. When Emon opened the floor to the public, some neighbours expressed
concerns regarding a lack of privacy. “All we ask for, from the contractors, is a six-foot wooden fence for privacy on our side,” said Suzanne Burke-Dufour, who represented herself and two other neighbours whose properties border the former church. “These people are going to want to sit outside at some point. And where are they going to sit? In the backyard.” As a condition of approval, council has the ability to require that the applicants construct a fence, Burton said. Councillor Michael Coulas said there was a previous application for the building to be used as a daycare centre. Although that application was approved by the planning committee, it was turned down by the previous council. Coulas wonders who is responsible to make sure specific requirements are met with regards to drainage, fencing, garbage, parking, and so on. If the new application is approved, the developers will be required to submit a site plan, Burton explained. See REDEVELOPMENT, PAGE 2
