Parents in the Ottawa Valley and beyond are on high alert after a report of a suspicious man in a ski mask attempting to lure a youth into his van in Calabogie Saturday evening (Aug. 29). At 5:27 p.m. Saturday, police responded after a 12-year-old male reported the suspicious incident to his relatives.  He was in Calabogie playing with a cousin when they began to bike home, taking separate routes. The boy was on his bike on Mill Street near the community centre when he noticed a black van on a dirt path. The van had just started and startled him, say police. The male driver, who was wearing all black, including a ski mask, pulled up next to the youth, opened the door and told the boy to “come here.” The boy refused and the male walked towards the youth and placed his hand on the boy’s shoulder. The youth pulled away and took off. He was followed by the van for a short time. The youth met up with his cousin near the school and then proceeded to his relative’s home and reported the incident.   The suspect is described as: male, 5’10” to 6’ tall and skinny. He was operating a black van with tinted windows and no licence plates. If you have any information you are asked to call the OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
