Admaston-Bromley taxes rise 2.28% LUCY HASS
lucy.hass@metroland.com
Taxpayers in Admaston-Bromley Township will pay 2.28 per cent more for municipal services in 2010. The overall real assessment increase – merging municipal, county and education taxes – is 5.4 per cent. Council gave its financial framework the stamp of approval last Thursday night. Factors impacting the budget were decreases in the Ontario Municipal Partnership Fund (-$149,000 from 2009), federal gasoline tax (-$8,445) and investment income, and increases in library grant, the fire levy, and Wards 3 and 4 recreation funding. The total 2010 levy is $2,645,476, based on $941,124 municipal (35.58%), $907,682 county (34.31%) and $796,670 education (30.11%). A further breakdown of the municipal portion shows roads consumed 45.04% of the budget, police and fire 18.63%, administration 16.72%, waste management 9%, recreation and library 3.38%, council costs 3.13%, drains and planning 2.68%, building and sewage .97% and animal control .45%. Abby Kelsky, in foreground, joins Courtney Roach in a dance in Renfrew’s Low Square last Tuesday night. Pam Reid of the Pam Reid Dancers said that is exactly how Courtney got her start in Scottish dancing – joining the fun at a Canada Day celebration when she was just a little girl. Fans of small airplanes and hearty breakfasts are in for a treat Sunday, June 13. The Champlain Flying Club is holding its annual fly-in breakfast from 7 to 11 a.m. The fundraising breakfast and airplane show will be held, rain or shine, at the Bruce McPhail Memorial Field on the north end of Jeffreys Lake, just off Highway 17 on Airport Road south of Cobden. Admission is free to the airfield and the charge for breakfast modest. Proceeds go toward maintaining the privately-run airfield. People are welcome to fly in, drive in, bike in, jog in and walk in to the show, which features a number of aircraft coming from near and far, said Dennis Yakaback, one of the organizers.
