The fundraising campaign for Bonnechere Manor’s auditorium has definitely warmed up. Following the $1 million fundraising campaign kickoff on a frigid Jan. 29 at the Renfrew long-term care home, there are now enough funds pledged or raised to trigger construction for the much-anticipated auditorium. The County of Renfrew is now seeking requests for proposal (RFP) to build the auditorium, to be located where the courtyard now sits. The deadline for RFPs is July 28. Construction is to begin this summer and to be completed by March 31, 2011. Bonnechere Manor, which moved into the building in 1995, has had no auditorium since then. The county is seeking a design-build package, which includes architectural drawings. “We’ve had great success with the design-build approach for our ambulance stations,” said Jim Lynch, the county’s manager of real property assets. Those stations were recently built in Arnprior, Petawawa and Barry’s Bay. The contract calls for construction of a facility of about 4,800 square feet, of which just less than 4,000 contains the auditorium. The other space is for a cement patio at the auditorium’s west end. County documents say proposals may include “the ability for proponents to achieve a lasting legacy through a donation or a financial support of the project in a philanthropic manner.
