SUNFLOWER POWER Some of Aidan Reid’s summer has been spent playing hide-and-seek with his cousins among his grandparent Dave and Joan Reid’s sunflower acreage. The eight-year-old resident of Admaston-Bromley is neck-deep in colourful sunflowers, but there’s no hiding his championship smile.

A two-vehicle collision about 6:45 p.m. Monday left one man dead and two other men injured, one seriously. Adam Donald McLeod, 24, of Hyndford, died at the scene after his westbound Honda Civic collided head-on with a truck. The passenger in the car, Kevin Kilby, 19, of Douglas, suffered

serious, but non-life-threatening, injuries. Tuesday, Paul Kilby said his son remained in care at the Civic campus of the Ottawa Hospital. A 25-year-old Eganville-area driver of an eastbound Ford pickup truck was also taken to hospital, but later released. During the head-on collision, his truck burst into flames and exploded, according to the Douglas Fire Department.

Traffic was rerouted well into the night, as firefighters from the Douglas, Bonnechere Valley and North Algona Wilberforce were on the accident scene or redirecting traffic. Traffic was detoured away from Highway 60 along such connecting roads as Rice Line, Dillabough Road and County Road 8. The crash occurred a little more than 2.5 kilometres southeast of Kellys Corners, within

a few hundred metres of where a Golden Lake driver rolled her vehicle nine days earlier. A post-mortem, of McLeod, was scheduled for Tuesday at the Ottawa Hospital. The investigation continues. The investigating officer is Const. Mark Yarmel. Anyone with information about the collision is asked to call the Renfrew OPP detachment at 613-432-3211.
