TIFFANY LEPACK tlepack@metroland.com The Renfrew Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) dealt with two serious issues, announcing numerous charges laid on May 18. The OPP arrested and charged two males for human trafficking offences after a teenaged female victim came forward alleging attempts were made to lure her into prostitution. "This is the first charge of this nature for our detachment, that I am aware of," said Const. Janice Sawbridge. "We are certainly seeing a lot more of this in Ontario and when people are aware of the offence they are reporting it to the police." The incident occurred in March and was reported to OPP in April and as a result Liam Coyne, 18, of Renfrew and Logan O'Brien, also 18 of Ottawa are each charged with attempting to procure a person under the age of 18 to provide

Park and trail vandalized TIFFANY LEPACK tlepack@metroland.com The playground at MaTe-Way Park and lampposts on the Millennium Trail were vandalized sometime overnight May 14 and 15. Someone spray-painted profanities and other words on the playstructure and the lampposts were pushed off level and wires were exposed. The Renfrew Parks and Recreation Department cleaned up the damage and an electrician was on scene to make the posts safe. Members of the department have contacted the police and are looking for more information. Kevin Hill, recreation director for the town was disappointed with the vandalism. "We take pride in the properties the Town of Renfrew owns," said Hill. "It all costs money and I'm sure the culprits are not taxpayers but their parents are." Hill is unsure of the exact cost to repair the destruction including staff time and the electrical work to be done to the approximately

Approximately 30 lampposts on the Millennium Trail were damaged this week as well as graffiti on the play structure at Ma-Te-Way Activity Centre. 30 lampposts that were damaged. "The wire at the base had been exposed and they are messing with power and that is what scares me the most," said Hill. "We can clean/remove paint but we have trouble fixing someone who's been electrocuted. I have no idea why someone would do that and what rush comes with messing with live wires." Hill is unsure if the two events are related but notes they did occur in the same time frame. He encourages anyone with information to contact
the recreation department, 613-432-3131. The County of Renfrew is also aware of the recent graffiti spray-painted on the Algonquin Trail bridge over the Bonnechere River crossing. Also worked as a school support counsellor and educational assistant for the Renfrew County District School Board. Chair of the United Way funds distribution W committee for several years. Married to Steve and lives in Eganville with three adult children and one grandchild. Metroland Media asked M tthe Liberal, New Democratic Party and Progressive Conservative candidates to C indicate what they believe is tthe number one issue in the riding and why? Former vice-president and F executive member with Ontario Public Service Employees Union. Widow of Will Birkett, she has a W daughter Wendy and two grandchildren. Metroland Media asked M tthe Liberal, New Democratic and Progressive Conservative candidates to indicate what they believe is the number one issue in the riding and why? The number one issue here is the need not just for change, but change for the better. Kathleen Wynne has focused on politics, not peo-

affordable rental housing particularly for seniors, persons with disabilities, low-income families, single parents, youth, and single individuals. Having access to safe, affordable housing is absolutely essential which is why the Ontario Liberal Party and Jackie Agnew are committed to ideas like rent controls, expanding access to afford-
able housing, and down payment assistance. Renfrew-NipissingPembroke also has a need ffor a living wage. When low-income earners make a living wage, they spend more in the community, which helps grow our economy. Securing at least $15/ hr for every employed Ontarian isn't just the smart thing to do - it's the right thing to do. As RenfrewNipissing-Pembroke is a large, rural riding, affordable transportation is a top priority of hers. People in this riding don't have the luxury of being able to live conveniently without a vehicle and ensuring that they can move within - and outside of the riding is crucial. Affordability in this riding also extends to childcare, healthcare, education, and so many more areas. As an MPP, Jackie Agnew will keep these priorities in mind every day so that her constituents can afford to live comfortably.
John Yakabuski closed 28 hospitals and eliminated 7,000 hospital beds, many in this riding. We have a homelessness W crisis right here. The United Way tells us that at any givW en time, at least 30 youth are homeless in Renfrew County. There have been just 19 affordable housing units built in the county in five years. There are nearly 400 ffamilies on the waiting list. The NDP has a plan to make a difference for them. We can build a future W where young people can get a good post-secondary education without massive debt. We can build a future where racism, sexism, discrimination and homophobia have no place. I have ffought these things all my life. I want to offer hope for my grandchildren, for the citizens in this province and in my culture for seven generations to come. Meegwetch.
B
ackground: Prior to being elected as MPP spent more than 20 years as owner/operator of Yakabuski's Home Hardware in Barry's Bay. He was very involved in community organizations and served on municipal council. Yakabuski is married to Vicky and has four children and by the time this is published likely 10 grandchildren, as their daughter Emily is due at any time. Metroland Media asked M the Liberal, New Democratic Party and Progressive Conservative candidates to indicate what they believe is the number one issue in the riding and why? In a riding as vast as Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke it is not possible to narrow it down to a single issue. For many people the further extension of Highway 417 which I have championed and will con-
John Yakabuski
tinue to do so, is of uppermost importance. When I speak to others it's the lack of family doctors and the fact that the Wynne government has W ffailed to graduate enough
medical students to fill the growing gap as other physicians retire. A major issue for most is the cost of living and how the Liberals have botched the electricity ffile driving up the price by over 300 per cent leaving many struggling to pay their bill. The sky-rocketing cost of gas is also of great concern when you live in an area that lacks the choices in transportation that urban areas enjoy. A cap and trade carbon tax only adds to that cost. It is clear that respect ffor rural Ontario and our way of life touches all issues. It becomes a matter of leadership and it is most important that the person you send to represent you in the Ontario Legislature is the one that knows you the best and will be your strongest voice. TIFFANY LEPACK tlepack@metroland.com There's going to be a colour explosion in Renfrew. On Saturday, May 26 the first ever Colour Run will take place in Renfrew. The event is raising money for the Renfrew and District Food Bank and Hospice Renfrew. Jessica Forgie, Arleigh Prince (the teenager is a past nominee of 2014 Ontario Junior Citizen of the Year Award) and Danielle McGregor are organizing the run and they hope to get a big turnout for the first year. The colour run is a five-kilometer run/walk, starting at the Ma-Te-Way Activity Centre and at each kilometre
something colourful will happen. "You get sprayed with a colour!" said Forgie. "It's fun and everyone can do it ... it's a big thing in the city and we want to bring it to small town Renfrew." The event is open to kids, adults and seniors and only costs $20 per participant and people can sign up at 8:30 a.m. the day of the event and the run/walk gets started at 9:30 a.m. "Ever since we announced it people have been getting excited and we are hoping for a big turn out of people." McGregor and Forgie even held a Wine Warrior and raised $600 to cover the cost of the paint powder. "So wear a white shirt as a keep-
sake as the paint dries right into the fabric," said Forgie. "And we will have four people at each station to spray the paint at the walkers and runners." As to why they choose to support two local causes Forgie has fundraised for the Hospice before and Prince has raised money for the food bank so it was a natural fit. "Hospice Renfrew runs mainly on donations, and I have had some personal experience there and they really are incredible," said Forgie. "The food bank is also very important as it supplies food to the less fortunate." For more information on the Colour Run email Forgie: jmahusky@hotmail.com or McGregor: danielle_mcgregor@hotmail.ca.

Patient and family appreciate “endless” care Because of you – and other generous people like you who have supported the Renfrew Victoria Hospital and Foundation – we are able to provide compassionate care to all patients and families just like the Millers. On February 8, 2018, we lost a husband, a father, a Poppy Ralph and a friend. Ralph Miller had a lengthy stay at your hospital. His journey with you began over 5 years ago when he started dialysis as an outpatient. For the next few years this unit became his extended family going 3 times a week. He became an inpatient in June 2017 where he fought many battles. Staff from the 2nd and 3rd floor gave him endless care, supporting the ups and downs. In January 2018 he decided that he had had enough, he decided to stop dialysis and be comfortable. In his last few days we cannot express how thankful we were to have such a special team to care for our loved one. From the nurses

Please acknowledge all for the outstanding care and friendship they gave to our special guy. Please accept this donation from us in memory of him. We are thankful to all. This cat should have been spayed. Spaying/Neutering prevents the births of cats and dogs for whom no homes can be found. In Canada, tens of thousands of cats and dogs are put to death annually in pounds and shelters because there are not enough homes for them. And how many more die on the streets from sickness, injury and starvation?
PLEASE SPAY AND NEUTER YOUR ANIMALS.

Hold parties to their future broken promises It's one thing to see a car commercial give us all the glitz and glamour with none of the hard numbers. The company is softening us up, luring us in with speed and flashy colours. Don't think about the ticket price, payment plan, your pocketbook. It's about the dream, not the reality. That's fine until we walk into the dealership. They have to tell us the price then. Why would anyone sign on the dotted line without knowing it? No, we would demand to know the full cost. Yet many appear willing to walk into the voting booth and sign on without knowing the cost of the next government. At one point in the not-too-distant past, parties put out fully-costed platforms. Last November, former PC leader Patrick Brown unveiled his 78-page 2018 election platform, calling it The People's Guarantee. It included guarantees to cut income tax rates for middle- and low-income earners. Hydro bills would be slashed by 12 per cent. There was something for child care, mental health, an accountability act: you get the picture. The party's new leader, Doug Ford, promised a "solid platform that is fully costed," but had yet to release one nearing the midway point of the June 7 election campaign. It seems the plan now is to make a scattering of announcements, each including a price tag. The Liberal Party back in 2003 bragged about their fully costed platform, saying it was verified by a forensic accountant and two bank economists. Of course, once elected, Premier Dalton McGuinty more than doubled the promised deficit spending and raised taxes (in the form of the Ontario Health Premium.) The Liberals have had a platform ever since. It is the government's budget released prior to every election. They are piling onto it with - among other promises - a pledge to ban auto insurance rates based on driver postal codes; an idea they voted against at Queen's Park. So it seems the choice is between a platform that, based on past actions, would be abandoned once the party wins power; or no platform at all, meaning no promises to break, by a party that wants you to vote in ignorance. The difference between a broken promise and no promise? At least we can hold them to a broken promise. The Ontario NDP has offered platforms, including in 2018, and has not broken a promise in decades, if ever. That may have to do with holding precious little time in power, who knows? We could dream a little too. Maybe that car will go as fast and shine as brightly as in the commercials. Maybe cost doesn't matter. Ready to sign? Not until we've seen the broken promise first.

Bill costs disabled workers their jobs To the editor: Once again one of the most vulnerable groups of people has had their quality of life pulled out from under them. People with developmental disabilities are now being told that if they don't earn $14/ hour and receive a T4 at the end of the year, there is no longer a job for them. The sad part about this is most of these individuals cannot produce to the
same level as able bodied and minded individuals, therefore, they no longer are valued or have a job, according to Bill 148. As usual the people at the top making six-figure salaries do not have a clue about the real world for this group of people or their families. No one can know the struggles until they walk in their shoes and please don't say you do as you are insulting the caring families and friends of these individuals who are constantly trying to give their special need family member the best quality of life possible. That is what it is all about - quality. What is next, the closing of group homes? A tired and frustrated parent. Linda Humphries Cobden

TIFFANY LEPACK tlepack@metroland.com Renfrew Collegiate Institute's (RCI) Eli Scott has earned a Schulich Leader Scholarship from the University of Toronto (U of T). She is one of only 25 engineering students across Canada to receive the scholarship, which is for a student entering an engineering program of study and is $25,000 per year for four years of study. The acceptance letter states "your academic and personal achievements have earned you a well-deserving place among the university's most outstanding new students." In December, it was also announced the 18 yearold student was a finalist for the Loran Scholars Foundation scholarship, as a finalist she was eligible to receive $5,000 to support her first year
away at school. Scott was nominated by the school in February and had to write a couple essays for this new scholarship. She says being a Loran finalist also really helped her. She wasn't expecting the acceptance letter on April 16 when she was just checking her email for her basketball schedule. "It was just there, it was pretty exciting and humbling," said Scott. "It gives me a huge advantage of going away. It's very gratifying and an acknowledgement that hard work does pay off." The Grade 12 student is very involved at RCI with the Social Interaction Program, this year helping to organize it. She has played basketball and hockey for the last four years with the school. She plans on studying engineering science at U of T and hasn't quite decided what she wants to do when she is finished

Eli Scott her post-secondary education. "Hopefully something that can help those in need - making things more accessible for those with special needs," said
Scott. The Schulich Scholarship is based on students pursuing science, technology, engineering, mathematics (STEM) subjects and it is a field in
which she definitely encourages young girls to get involved. "In general the STEM fields are growing with technology developing," said Scott. "For girls and women, they can contribute different ideas from a different perspective." As to why she gravitated to the STEM field she points out her parents Jeff Scott and Kim Acres are both English teachers. "I am extremely proud to see Eli rewarded for her consistent academic motivation," said Acres in an email. "Despite the pressures of adolescence and life, Eli has never let her academics take the back seat, often-working hours each night on homework and assignments. She is also a proud
Raider. I am excited for the future she is creating for herself." Overall she is both excited and nervous about her future. "It's a little bit of pressure. It's big and new," Scott admitted. "You try and push yourself as far as you can, you start with as much gusto as you can manage." Scott says her four years at RCI have been really important to her. "Like every teen I've had challenges but RCI has been very supportive," said Scott. "I know I would not have been able to get these scholarships without the passionate teachers here. The teachers want me to succeed with a deeper learning and want us all to succeed in the future."

HERE’S HOW IT WORKS: Sudoku puzzles are formatted as a 9x9 grid, broken down into nine 3x3 boxes. To solve a sudoku, the numbers 1 through 9 must fill each row, column and box. Each number can appear only once in each row, column and box. You can figure out the order in which the numbers will appear by using the numeric clues already provided in the boxes. The more numbers you name, the easier it gets to solve the puzzle!

COUNCIL

TIFFANY LEPACK tlepack@metroland.com On May 1 Horton council regretfully accepted the resignation of the chief administrative officer/clerk Sue Klatt. Klatt joined Horton on Sept. 1, 2016 after the former chief administrative officer (CAO) Mackie MacLaren retired after 30 years.
Klatt has accepted the CAO/clerk position at Madawaska Valley Township, closer to where she lives. "We are sad to see her go," said Mayor Robert Kingsbury. "She's been a real spark plug and things were going real well under her leadership." However, Kingsbury understood her reasons for leaving.
"It came as a surprise, but it didn't," said Kingsbury. "She was driving over an hour each way, the opportunity presented itself and we totally understand her wanting to be in her hometown." At a special council meeting on May 2, council supported the CAO/clerk's report recommending deputy clerk Hope Dilla-
bough's internal application for the CAO/clerk position be accepted. As of May 25, the new CAO/clerk for Horton will be Dillabough. "We felt her qualifications were in line with what we were looking for," said Kingsbury. "We are satisfied she can do the job." Dillabough was hired as an administration as-
sistant in 2016 and was promoted to deputy clerk in 2017. To fill Dillabough's position, Horton will be looking for person to fill a dual role as the deputy clerk/deputy treasurer. Current treasurer Jennifer Barr has informed the township she will be retiring in the fall of 2019 and this will give some

time for training. Horton also recently hired Megan Eady as the community liaison for a six-month contract starting in April. "She's new and comes with a lot of education and new ideas," said Kingsbury. "We are looking forward to her focus on the economic development side of things."

Long Live the Canada Jay! Tenacious research will help restore popular bird's name, Michael Runtz writes
Michael Runtz
The Gray Jay's name is set to revert to Canada Jay, thanks to some tenacious research.
MICHAEL RUNTZ Column Ever since our species developed language, names have been assigned to wild creatures. This was done to communicate the presence of potential meals and imminent danger. This need progressed into the desire to name every living thing, a process that continues today. All plants and animals have two official names. One is a popular name given in the language of the region in which the species is found. The other is a scientific name, usually based in Latin, a name that is recognized around the world. For example, our robin is officially known as the American robin; its scientific name is Turdus migratorius (scientific
names are either italicized or underlined). Currently, the North American classification committee of the American Ornithological Society (the AOS) is responsible for the nomenclature of North American birds. Most of the current names of our birds, however, were assigned by the AOS's predecessor, the American Ornithologists' Union (the AOU). New names are assigned and old names are occasionally changed, the latter sometimes reflecting a change in the status of a species. For example, not long ago we had a species called "Canada goose." It was discovered that a small form of it was actually a distinct species that was named the "cackling goose" so we gained a new species. Sometimes we lost one. Snow goose and blue goose were
found to be colour morphs of the snow goose so the two became one species, the snow goose. But no systems are perfect and mistakes have been made. A case in point involves a bird that is familiar to most of you, at least by name. Gray jays are those giant chickadee-like birds that come to your hand for food in Algonquin Park and all through the North. The gray jay is also the bird that made headlines in recent years when The Royal Canadian Geographic Society chose it as its candidate for Canada's national bird. But in earlier years, the gray jay was officially known as the Canada jay with the scientific name Perisoreus canadensis. Then in 1957 the American Ornithologists' Union changed its name to the gray jay, a title it currently owns.
Although disappointed, Canadian ornithologists failed to protest the loss of one of the few bird names that included a reference to our great nation. But that all changed when Dan Strickland, former chief park naturalist in Algonquin Park and gray jay guru, discovered that there was no basis for the change in name for a species he has studied for nearly 50 years. Dan's tenacity in tracking down the history of the change and lobbying the AOS to restore the bird's name back to its original are worthy of a book. Although the decision of the AOS won't be officially released until July, I've heard through the grapevine that the vote on the joint proposal put forward by Dan Strickland and American ornithologist Carla Cicero was nine to one in favour of changing the name of gray jay back to Canada jay. Thank you Dan for your tenacity and efforts that will make this year's Canada Day celebrations extra special for many Canadians and likely one northern bird! The Nature email is mruntz@start.ca – Michael Runtz is a longtime columnist who teaches natural history and ornithology at Carleton University. He has worked as a naturalist in provincial and national parks, hosted the television series Wild by Nature, and has written 11 books on natural history topics.
April showers brings out new players to the Renfrew Bridge Club With the arrival of spring, the Renfrew Bridge Club has seen several new players venture out to sample the quality of play. Fortunately, all the new players seem to be impressed by the warm welcome, generous hospitality and challenging play as they soon become regulars at the club. Now if the fickle computer just behaved as it should, the Renfrew Bridge Club world would be perfect. Each session's highlight of the week follows: - On April 4, the cards seem to have been dealt very evenly, as only five slams were attempted over the afternoon. Sadly, only Sue Phillips and Steve Gray were actually successful in their bid; well done, folks! - The April 11 session saw a great deal of timid bidding with many part score contracts. On Board 22, Ruth Grant and Mary McCann did find a major suit slam. While on Board 26, Ted Armbridge performed his usual legerdemain to conjure up a six club doubled and vulnerable contract to the dismay of his opponents and the disbelief of his partner. - The April 18 session might be classed as a cautionary tale as several ambitious bids were soundly punished. During the afternoon's play, two contract attempts were doubled and down three; scoring 500 for the defenders ... Ouch! One pair saw their vulnerable

and doubled four spade contract fail by three; scoring 800 for the defenders ... Double ouch! Finally, one daring pair had their vulnerable and doubled slam contract crushed by four; scoring 1100 for the defenders ... maybe time for a new partner? - The April 25 game, really stretched the capabilities of the club as 16 full tables of players turned out for the game. Board 28 was definitely a happy place for the north-south players as four pairs made slams and seven others rattled off 12 tricks. Congratulations to the north-south winners from: April 4: 1: Irene Churchill - Gary Churchill. 2: Arthur Ham - Phyllis Brennan. 3: Jeannie Yagminas Mona Brydges. Aunt Lizzie's annual visits turned the house upside down Effort it took to squeeze into corset an eye-opener for young Mary Father's sister from Regina, I thought, was the smartest person to ever step off the train in Renfrew. She came once a year, and was always dressed in pure white, with a red hat, shoes, and elbow length gloves with a glass ring on the outside. As far as Father was concerned, Aunt Lizzie had taken on airs since she moved West and married Uncle Jack who worked for the CPR, allowing her to go anywhere in Canada for nothing. Father said that was the only reason she came out to Northcote: it was free! When she came for her yearly visit, she turned the whole place upside down. She brought enough clothes to last a year, even though she would only be visiting a week, and she never appeared in the same outfit twice. When she came downstairs for breakfast, she was dressed fit to kill, with every hair in place, and enough makeup on to sink a ship. We always had a Saturday night party when Aunt Lizzie came. That gave her a chance to visit those she had grown up with, and as Father said, to show off, and put on the dog,
MARY COOK Column and generally to show how well she had done since she left Renfrew County. Well, there she was. Father spent as much time as he could in the barns. Avoiding Aunt Lizzie as much as possible became his mission for the week. He welcomed the Saturday night house party because that would give him one other night when he didn't have to sit and hear his sister brag about her money in the bank, the big house, and the new car Uncle Jack bought every year. Everything was ready for the party. Neighbours would bring eats, the big white pots were simmering on the back of the Findlay Oval, filled with green tea, and we five children were dressed in our next-to-Sunday best. Then we heard the roar from the upstairs bedroom. Mother, my sister Audrey and I took the stairs two at a time, and Father never took his eyes off the Ottawa Farm Journal. There was Aunt Lizzie, ramrod straight, half dressed,
with something around her middle that had more strings and laces than I had ever seen in my life. She was hanging on to the bed post for dear life, and was so red in the face, I thought she was going to explode. She was asking Mother to pull the laces tighter. I sat on the bed and looked her over from head to toe. I had never seen one of those contraptions before, and I couldn't imagine why anyone would put themselves through such torture, if it wasn't necessary. She was telling Mother to pull the laces tighter. Mother tried, but it still didn't suit Aunt Lizzie. "Tighter Mabel," she ordered. "If I pull any tighter, Lizzie, your back will meet your front," Mother answered. The laces were tied in the front, and big wads of cotton that had been sitting on the wash stand were being stuffed into her bosom. Finally, the ordeal was over. Her white silk dress was slipped over her head, and she looked ten pounds lighter than she did before she got laced up. On the way downstairs I said to Mother I couldn't wait to tell the whole family what I had just witnessed in the bedroom ... I was sure it had something to with a sore back. Mother said I wasn't to mention the corset to anyone ... the secret would just be between us. I said I thought Father would like to know how much pain his

Opening day at Dragonfly was Monday, April 23 - 10 days later than last year. The weather has been "choppy" since then but we have been encouraged on the nicer days, as golfers seem to be keen to come out and visit. This year we opened Dragonfly with nine new Tee It Forward tee decks (to complete our 18 hole course), a new power cart fleet from Club Car, a fully stocked pro shop, and Dragonfly staff that are keener than ever to make 2018 another "all-time best" year at Dragonfly. Our list of events is already underway as we hosted a Demo Day for Ping Golf on May 15, and we have another one with Cobra Golf on Sunday, June 3 between 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. - everyone is welcome to attend. I hope that all the mothers who came out to play free golf on Sunday appreciated their day, because we sure appreciate our mothers. Our club events start Sunday, May 27 where members compete among their peers, and also try to qualify for various Dragonfly teams that will play against other Ottawa area clubs in a match play format. Our men's and ladies leagues are a real source of pride here at Dragonfly, and I am thrilled to tell you that they are growing again. The men's league plays Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday nights, and our ladies league is played on Thursday. By the time you read this submission the men will have played three times. Our first attempt at ladies league this year called for thundershowers in the forecast, and was cancelled, so I can only report from last week. Here are the results from the first two weeks of men's league: closest to the pin winners on April 30, were Joey Dufour and Gary Riopelle; on May 1, it was Jacob Collins and Rob Kimberley; and on May 2 it was Jacob Fulton and Kevin Moran. Closest to the pin winners on May 7 were Mike Riopelle and Joe Proulx; on May 8 it was Mat Forrest and Glen Belanger; and on May 9 it was Jerry Riopelle and Rob Leclair. Sharpshooters (closest to the pin) for our ladies league on Thursday were Karen Zohr, Pauline Martin, Kacy Dick and Erika Beverly Riopelle. Team prizes were limited to random draws for the first two weeks of play for both the men's and the women's league. Handicaps will be in play in week three. The course is already in fantastic shape, and our spring rates are in effect until the end of May. We hope to see you soon! Happy golfing!

Renfrew Eye Clinic captures first place Clinic (REC) 29-20. Frances/Lemke Co-operators disposed of Midtown Flooring 34-25 by limiting them to eight points in the second half while pumping in 21. Becky Shallenberg hit for 12 points. The Co-operators picked up another win, this time a close call (30-28) over the Lumber Jills. The Lumber Jills followed this setback with a tight win of their own, 21-19 over the Basket Brawlers. With only three games remaining, the combined winners over the last nine seasons, the Reunions and Midtown Flooring were locked in sixth and fifth places respectively, each with a 3-7 record. In ladies basketball action the Basket Brawlers kept their winning ways alive by jumping out to a 12-0 lead over Midtown Flooring and cruising to a 32-17 win. Jill Barr was the game high scorer, netting 12 for Midtown. Agnes Enright hit a 3-pointer for Midtown to send the game with the Lumber Jills into overtime. A trey by Cassidy Resmer in overtime gave the Jills a one point edge (32-31), which Midtown couldn't erase with two tries from the charity stripe. Jill Barr hit for another 16 points. spots were up for grabs. REC came from behind by outscoring Midtown Flooring 24-12 in the second half and taking the first game of the night, 3931. REC trailed Frances/Lemke Co-operators 26-16 before, once again, rallying to win 36-28. Katie Dolan sparked the attack with 14 of her 18 points down the stretch. This left Renfrew Eye Clinic in first place at 7-3, edging out the Basket Brawlers, also at 7-3. The Co-operators lost to the Reunions 38-28 but still claimed third place at 5-5. Mae Donohue was good for 18 points. The Lumber Jills, also at 5-5, took fourth spot.
