ABOUT US SHELTER Hamptons is your power advertising partner in the Hamptons market—a bespoke print and digital platform tailored to the needs of homeowners, builders, realtors, developers, designers and the trades. WE'RE DIFFERENT. While the other Hamptons glossies do a great job promoting the luxury lifestyle, our mission is to bring expert advice to Hamptonites looking to purchase, design, build, renovate, tear down or restore a Hamptons’ home. SHELTER is the only publication that focuses on, explains, and celebrates the building arts of the South Fork’s $5 billion luxury home marketplace. SHELTER combines two resources in one publication. First, as a visually stunning magazine it features articles on every aspect of building and renovating from fixtures and fittings to architecture and landscaping. Second, it is also an insiders Directory of the local home industry with a comprehensive and trusted listing of vetted services. CUSTOMIZED Our custom Branded Suite* creates, in effect, a "super-brochure" for your business. Where else can you buy the front and back covers and pages of editorial inside focused on your brand alone? TARGETED DISTRIBUTION Our hyper-targeted curated lists ensure that your advertising reaches high-net-worth Hamptons homeowners and key members of the building industry. Our methods include direct mail and hand-delivery through our partner networks (see also the Distribution flyer).

DISTRIBUTION If you’ve ever felt that advertising is a bit like throwing money out, we are with you. That’s why we’ve created a unique distribution method for SHELTER. It is based on hyper-targeted direct mail and hand delivery through our partner network. Since there are only about 8,000 potential annual real estate customers in the Hamptons market, it’s ineffective and wasteful to blanket the area with tens-of-thousands copies of magazines. Instead, you’ll be able to choose from our hyper-targeted distribution channels that include:

pillows, then the side tables with which to flank those sofas, then the lamps to light it all up... you get the picture.

This summer Pamela Fiori, former editor of Town and Country, will be hosting “Behind the Design,” a trio of talks with interior designers with close Hamptons’ ties: Jonathan Adler, Richard Mishaan, and Charlotte Moss. Despite their widely differing styles, the trio was chosen for “aesthetics that suit the landscape.” SHELTER spoke to the players about their views of the Hamptons aesthetic.

MAGICAL LIGHT These days Pamela Fiori writes for such outlets as Manhattan magazine and 1stdibs and does “a fair amount of public speaking.” Her Hamptons house, a twolevel contemporary with floor-to-ceiling glass, is in Northwest Woods, but “feels as much like southern California as the East End.”

WHAT MAKES A GREAT HAMPTONS INTERIOR? Whatever enables the natural light to do its magic. HAMPTONS MUST HAVES? A swimming pool and deck with ample room for outdoor entertaining. MUST NOT? Architecture that looks wildly out of place, for example a faux chateau. In fact, the faux chateau doesn’t belong anywhere.

ARTFULLY MODERN Over his 20-plus-year career, Colombianborn interior designer Richard Mishaan has built a reputation for being the ultimate mix master. A favorite among collectors, he arranges disparate elements, say, a 17th-century console and a striking contemporary sculpture, into harmonious juxtapositions. It’s a skill that’s on inspiring display in his second monograph, Artfully Modern, from Monacelli Press.

Reclining on a painted rattan chair in her “refuge,” the screened-in porch—the most-used room in her house—Charlotte Moss props up her legs on a white canvas ottoman and pets her Cavalier King Charles spaniel, Oscar, curled nearby. While nibbling on figs, she holds forth on both Charlotte Moss the woman and Charlotte Moss the brand—having magically found a way to relax into the moment. It is only slightly surprising that, when asked to describe her house in one word, she says in her lilting Southern cadence, “Easy.” {S} ShelterTheHamptons.com SHELTER Spring/Summer 2016 9
