Yet, her life is not a fairytale but rather a prime biography of a mother, prosecutor, political icon, esteemed broadcaster, bestselling author, entrepreneur, and friend with a relentless drive for success.
Her legacy includes a variety of noteworthy moments that have revealed triumph in every corner of her career. From the courtroom, as the Assistant District Attorney for San Francisco and Los Angeles, to the official residence as the First Lady of San Francisco. It also includes dedicated time on the set co-hosting Fox News Channel’s The Five and Outnumbered to The Kimberly Guilfoyle Show, airing exclusively on Rumble. It also includes being on the campaign trail as a Senior Advisor to President Trump. As President Trump’s chosen representative to Greece, the birthplace of democracy and a country that will soon take center as America celebrates her 250-year anniversary, it is not lost on anyone that Guilfoyle will be the first female US Ambassador to Greece.

BOLD BEGINNINGS:
When did you first realize fashion was your calling?
Shernett Swaby: I was five years old when I started sewing, and it was like discovering a whole new world. My mother, a seamstress, had this sewing machine, and I would watch her as she sat at that machine, creating magic out of fabric. I knew right then that I wanted to do the same. I remember making clothes for my dolls and later for myself. By the time I was in high school, I was designing for friends and family. It wasn’t just a hobby; it felt like an extension of who I am. Fashion gave me a voice before I even knew I needed one. It was as though I could tell a story without speaking, and that story was entirely my own.
CRAFTING THE SWABY SIGNATURE:
How would you describe your design philosophy?
Shernett Swaby: My philosophy is rooted in authenticity and individuality. I believe fashion should empower people to express who they are unapologetically. Every piece I design is a conversation—a dialogue between the fabric, the wearer, and the story they want to tell. I don’t follow trends. Trends come and go, but style is eternal. I create for the person who isn’t afraid to stand out and make a statement. My designs are about confidence, and that’s why I’ve stayed true to my custom designs. It allows me to connect deeply with my clients and create something that’s truly theirs.
I often say my designs aren’t just clothing— they’re wearable art. Every stitch, every detail is intentional. I’m not afraid to experiment with textures, layers, or unconventional silhouettes because I want the wearer to feel like they’re stepping into their own spotlight.
I think one of the aspects of my work that truly sets me apart is how meticulously I approach the fitting process. I tailor every garment to perfectly complement the client’s unique body shape, taste, and personality. It’s not just about measurements; it’s about understanding who they are and how they want to feel. I often spend hours refining the fit, making adjustments until the garment feels like a second skin. It’s an intimate process that allows me to connect with my clients on a deeper level. They’re not just wearing my design; they’re uniquely expressing themselves.
ON SUSTAINABILITY:
How do you incorporate sustainability into your work?
Shernett Swaby: Sustainability isn’t just a buzzword for me; it’s a responsibility. As designers, we have an obligation to minimize waste and make conscious choices. I’ve always believed in using every scrap of fabric. You can see this in the intricate details of every garment. I’m committed to ethical production, and every piece is made with quality to last.
Fast fashion is the antithesis of everything I stand for. When you invest in a Swaby design, you’re investing in quality, craftsmanship, and a piece that transcends seasons. One of the ways I ensure this is through my free alterations for life policy. I want my garments to evolve with my clients, so they’re not just buying a piece for one moment but something that can adjust to different seasons of life. Trends come and go, but my designs are meant to stay relevant and versatile for years.
I’m also currently working with sustainable and innovative fabrics that are not only environmentally friendly but also luxurious to wear. This allows me to maintain the beauty and integrity of my designs while doing my part for the planet.

BREAKING BARRIERS:
What challenges have you faced in building your business in the fashion industry?
Shernett Swaby: The fashion world is incredibly competitive, and as someone who started with very limited resources, I had to learn to navigate it on my own. When I first started out, I did everything—designing, sewing, marketing—all by myself. Those were tough days, but they taught me the importance of perseverance and resourcefulness. You have to wear many hats when you’re building a business, especially in fashion. It’s not just about creativity; it’s about being strategic and disciplined.
One of the biggest obstacles was establishing trust and building my reputation. Early on, I decided to focus on bespoke designs because I wanted my clients to feel like they were getting something truly unique. It’s an approach that requires a deep level of trust because you’re creating something so personal for them. There were moments when I questioned whether I could keep up with the demands, but I realized that staying true to my vision was the only way forward.
Another challenge was building my business model to reflect my values. I’ve always believed in owning the process, which is why I developed a vertical business model. From sketching the designs to sewing the final piece, I oversee every detail. It’s a lot of work, but it ensures that my clients get the best experience and quality. Every decision I make is about maintaining that standard. That’s what keeps me motivated. Building a vertical business model was a natural evolution of my philosophy. I
wanted to have complete control over the process, from design to production to client experience, ensuring that every decision aligns with my values and how I contribute to the world. It was about creating a system where every aspect of my brand reflected my values—quality, authenticity, and sustainability. This approach wasn’t easy, but it gave me the freedom to innovate and ensure that my clients receive not just a garment but a full Swaby experience.
I’ve also learned the importance of community. Surrounding myself with people who understand and uplift my vision has been crucial. From the artisans who bring my designs to life to the clients who trust me to tell their stories, it’s a collaborative effort. I want to pave the way for the next generation of Black designers, showing them that it’s possible to succeed without compromising who they are or their vision.
EMPOWERING WOMEN:
How does your work reflect your advocacy for women’s empowerment?
Shernett Swaby: Empowerment is at the core of everything I do. Fashion isn’t just about looking good; it’s about feeling good. When a woman
wears one of my designs, I want her to feel invincible. I’ve also mentored young designers and worked with women’s organizations to support creativity and entrepreneurship.
I’m passionate about helping women realize their potential. Success isn’t just about personal achievements; it’s about lifting others as you climb. My upcoming New York studio is an extension of that philosophy. It’s not just a place to showcase my designs; it’s a space for collaboration, mentorship, and innovation. I want it to be a hub where creative minds can come together to inspire and be inspired.
THE FUTURE OF SWABY:
What’s next for your brand?
Shernett Swaby: I’m constantly exploring new ways to push boundaries and tell stories through my designs. Right now, I’m working on a collection that incorporates more sustainable fabrics while staying true to my aesthetic. I’m also planning to expand internationally, bringing the Swaby brand to a global audience. Opening my New York studio is a big step in that direction.
The studio represents a new chapter—a place where I can immerse myself in the vibrancy of one of the world’s fashion capitals. It’s a dream come true, and I’m excited to connect with new clients, collaborate with other designers, and continue creating with purpose and integrity. Carece H. Slaughter: Alfred, thank you for joining me today. Let’s start at the beginning. Can you tell us about your family’s artistic legacy and how it shaped your journey?
Alfred Addo: My journey began with my father, a sculptor, who immersed me in the art community from a young age. Growing up, art surrounded us—not just as a profession but as a way of life. I vividly remember watching my father meticulously carve sculptures in his studio. The air was always filled with the rich scent of wood shavings, and I would sit in a corner, mesmerized by how his hands transformed raw materials into beautiful pieces. One time, I had the opportunity to help fin-
ish a small sculpture he was working on, and that moment was magical—it felt like stepping into his world. Those early experiences taught me that art wasn't just about creating; it was about storytelling and connection. My father’s friends, some of Ghana’s most respected artists like Ablade Glover and Saka Acquaye, inspired me without my even realizing it. As the eldest, I often accompanied my father to exhibitions, absorbing the creative energy. Art became second nature, though it wasn’t until later that I truly recognized its impact.
As children, my siblings and I played with art. The sawdust left behind from my father’s work became our canvas. We’d compete, draw-
ing and sculpting, turning what others might discard into creative expressions. That early exposure planted seeds of ingenuity and sustainability in me.
CHS: Sustainability seems to be a recurring theme in your work. How did you transition from experimenting with sawdust to creating internationally acclaimed pieces?
AA: Sustainability has always been close to my heart. As kids, we’d dispose of sawdust, and I remember wondering if there was a better use for it. Years later, while studying science in school, I experimented with adhesives made from recycled plastics and combined them with sawdust. It wasn’t just about creating something new; it was about solving problems and elevating discarded materials into art. One of my early breakthroughs was creating wall murals with this compound. Eventually, I began using this material for intricate sculptures and textured artworks. One of my first significant pieces was a wall mural I created for a local hotel in Ghana. I still remember the excitement and nervousness as I applied the final touches. The reaction was overwhelming—people couldn’t believe that such beauty could come from discarded materials like sawdust and recycled plastics. That moment validated my belief in sustainability and ignited my passion to push boundaries in art. Sustainability became not just a method but a philosophy.
CHS: That’s fascinating. Your leadership role within your family has also been pivotal. How have you nurtured your siblings' artistic talents?
AA: Leadership has been both a challenge and a joy. As the eldest, I recognized the immense talent in my younger brothers early on. One moment that stands out is when Frank was struggling to refine a sculpture he had been working on for weeks. I stepped in, not to take over, but to guide him through the process. Together, we explored new techniques, and I shared insights I had learned from my own experiments. By the end, not only was the piece transformed, but Frank’s confidence soared. Moments like these reinforced my belief in the importance of mentorship and collaboration within our

family. Even in his younger days, Ivan excelled in drawing comics, James mastered colors, and Frank developed a distinct flair for texture. I encouraged them to refine their unique styles while working together as a collective.
At times, our home felt like an art school, with constant experimentation and collaboration. My role was to guide and inspire—to show them that art could be more than a passion; it could be a livelihood. When I began gaining recognition and securing commissions, it motivated them to pursue their own artistic paths.
CHS: Speaking of recognition, your participation in Miami Art Week marks a significant milestone. What was that experience like?
AA: Miami Art Week was incredible. It was humbling to showcase our work on such a global stage and to see how audiences connected with it. For me, it’s about more than just the art—it’s about telling stories and bridging cultures. The textures, the layers, the symbolism—they all speak to shared human experiences. Participating in Miami Art Week reaffirmed my belief that African art has a vital place in the global conversation.

CHS: Your pieces often feature strong depictions of women. Can you elaborate on this recurring theme?
AA: Women are central to Ghanaian culture and my life. In our society, the Queen Mother appoints kings, and women play crucial roles in families and businesses. My mother and aunts were entrepreneurial forces, balancing nurturing roles with remarkable resilience.
In my art, women symbolize strength, grace, and industry. A woman carrying a basket on her head and a child on her back isn’t just surviving; she’s thriving, creating opportunities for the next generation. That’s a story worth telling. It’s a tribute to their unyielding spirit and their pivotal role in society.
CHS: You’ve touched on mentorship and legacy throughout this conversation.What are your plans for the future?
AA: Mentorship is integral to my vision. I’ve worked with organizations like the Institute for Arts and Education in Florida, where students from various schools participate in art programs. I often serve as a judge during these art shows and have the privilege of mentoring award-winning students. Watching their growth is inspiring—some have even started
selling their artwork professionally, earning thousands of dollars per piece.
I’m also involved with MEGA Mentors in Virginia, where I give talks and guide young artists on overcoming obstacles and embracing the rewards of an artistic career. The focus is on helping them navigate challenges, cross cultural barriers, and position themselves on the global art stage. It’s about teaching them how to tell compelling stories through their work and sustain a livelihood while reaching diverse audiences worldwide.
In Ghana, we’re building a large art studio and residency space. This complex will provide artists a place to refine their craft and gain access
to international markets. The Addo Brotherhood is not just a family collective; it’s a prototype for nurturing African talent and bringing it to the world stage. I want to ensure future generations of artists have the resources, mentorship, and exposure they need to succeed. It’s a cycle—mentorship, creation, and growth— that I’m determined to complete for African artists.

In an age where style can trump substance, Princess Yasmin Aga Khan is the epitome of optimism and commitment. The daughter of Hollywood star Rita Hayworth and Prince Aly Khan, her life has been one of elegance, global power and transcendent meaning. She has been fighting Alzheimer’s for more than 40 years after her mother was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s. From her untiring work with the Alzheimer’s Association to spearheading campaigns such as the Rita Hayworth Gala, she has distilled personal tragedy into a global drive for awareness, research and support.
In this exclusive interview, Princess Yasmin Aga Khan reflects on her advocacy journey, the persistence of her philanthropic work and how she dreams of a future without Alzheimer’s. And her story is not only a testament to resilience but also a message to anyone who wants to make a meaningful difference.
Growing up as the daughter of the iconic Rita Hayworth, how did your upbringing influence your views on philanthropy and giving back?
Both of my parents (my father is Prince Aly Khan) were people who cared about giving back. They understood that, as notable figures, they had a platform to really make an impact. This understanding and value helped to shape me, but I never thought that raising awareness and funds for the Alzheimer’s Association would become my life’s work.
How has your personal experience with your mother’s illness influenced your life’s mission and philanthropic focus?
My mother was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s disease at the age of 62. Back then,
no one talked about Alzheimer’s. There was, and still is, a stigma surrounding this disease. Knowing first-hand what it was like to care for someone living with Alzheimer’s, how hard it was, and still can be, to get a diagnosis, I decided to speak publicly about my mother’s diagnosis. I felt so alone in my experience. But I knew so many others must have felt that same way. Because of that, it was important to me to share my story to help others feel less alone in their own journey. With the Alzheimer’s Association, over the past 40 years, we have worked to continue to break down the stigma around the disease and raise critical awareness and funds to change the course for future generations.
The Imagine Benefit, built on the legacy of the Rita Hayworth Gala, has raised millions over the last 40 years. What do you believe has contributed to its enduring success?
The shared passion from people who have experienced the disease first-hand is what fuels the progress and success we’ve made. A diagnosis of Alzheimer’s is very isolating. The Alzheimer’s Association is a safe place for people to come together over their experiences. It’s cathartic when you don’t have to describe piece-by-piece what it’s like to be a caregiver for someone living with this disease because others in the room have gone through this themselves and know exactly what it’s like. But it’s not all sad, we know the disease is devastating, so we try to add levity and hope through events like the Imagine Benefit and its sister event, the Rita Hayworth Gala in Chicago, which is in its 38th year, it takes place over Mother’s Day weekend in honor of my mother.
What has been the most memorable moment from the gala over the years, and how has it impacted you personally?
I can’t pinpoint just one moment because there are so many, but what I will say is that it’s incredible to see how many people have supported this event over the past 40 years. I’m filled with gratitude to everyone who has stood by me in the fight against Alzheimer’s. When I look back at photos from the 80s, it’s remarkable to see so many of the same people still standing with me today. What is also amazing is the new, young faces joining the fight. It’s inspiring to see that this event is multigenerational. It energizes me to keep fighting.
As a longtime advocate, how have you seen the conversation around Alzheimer’s evolve since you first became involved with the Alzheimer’s Association?
When I started working with the Alzheimer’s Association in 1980 after it was founded, federal funding for dementia research was in the low millions. Now federal funding for Alzheimer’s and dementia research is more than $3.8 billion annually. That alone shows that the conversation around the disease has shifted significantly. For the first time, there are drugs on the market that treat the underlying biology of Alzheimer’s disease. While these drugs aren’t cures, they are a major step in advancing the state of Alzheimer’s treatment. Stigma is still a significant problem for all dementia and I hope that in the coming years that becomes less so.
The funds raised through the Imagine Benefit, built on the legacy of the Rita Hayworth Gala and the Chicago Rita Hayworth Gala have significantly contributed to Alzheimer’s research and support. Can you share a particular project or research breakthrough that you’re especially proud of?
The era of treatment we’re in right now is particularly exciting. For the first time ever, there are multiple treatments available that can slow the progression of Alzheimer’s disease, giving families more time with their loved ones. This progress is so exciting!
What advice would you give to families currently facing an Alzheimer’s diagnosis, based on your own experiences with your mother?
You are not alone. We are in this together. I felt so isolated when we received my mother’s diagnosis. I am forever grateful to Jerome Stone, the founder of the Alzheimer’s Association, for reaching out to me and giving me the support system that I needed. Jerry (Jerome) saw my interview where I shared my mother’s diagnosis. When he contacted me, we were a small “ma and pa shop” with a team of ten working toward a common goal. He, and the Alzheimer’s Association, became my lifeline and helped me navigate all that I was going through.
The Association has a free, 24/7 Helpline (800.272.3900) that offers support for people living with the disease, their caregivers and the general public. Callers speak with a live person who can provide information, local resources and referrals, crisis assistance and emotional support. No one has to go through this disease alone. Reach out to the Alzheimer’s Association for help and support.
Your life has taken you on a journey through Hollywood glamour, international diplomacy, and philanthropy. How have these diverse experiences shaped your worldview?
I have been fortunate to be able to have a lot of access in my life, but through this, I was able to leverage these relationships to help move the needle forward. For example, through my mother’s work as an actress, I was able to get the Alzheimer’s Association a meeting with President Reagan because he was a friend of hers. At
that meeting with my fellow Board Members at the time, he signed a proclamation for Alzheimer’s Awareness month. I feel strongly that all of the experiences in my life have supported me to make an impact in this fight. I have seen people from all walks of life come together for this cause. We have incredible researchers working around the world to find a cure, and there have been so many breakthroughs over the years that have moved us one step closer to ending this dreadful disease.
In addition to your work with the Alzheimer’s Association, are there other causes you are passionate about supporting?
Working with the Alzheimer’s Association has been my life’s work. That’s not to say that there aren’t other incredible causes that I support, but I am passionate about what I do with the Association. I work year-round with them to
raise critical funds and awareness and until there’s a cure, we have so much more work to do.
Looking back, is there any message you would like to share with those who supported you throughout your journey, both personally and professionally?
Thank you. I am in awe of everything we have accomplished over the past 40 years. Sometimes it’s hard to not get frustrated that we aren’t farther along, but then I reflect on everything that has happened since the event was founded in 1984, and I am speechless. I have an overwhelming sense of pride and gratitude to each and every person who has supported me and this event over the years. I hope they share that same sense of accomplishment because it is something to be proud of and to celebrate.

With a history of success in technology and entrepreneurship, Frank is now bringing his passion for people and innovation to the world of champagne. From the creation of Aphrodise to his commitment to charitable causes, Frank's journey is nothing short of inspiring.
Resident Magazine: Frank, thank you so much for taking the time to sit down with us today. You've had a fascinating career, from founding Name Administration Inc. to Uniregistry, and now launching Aphrodise. Can you tell us how you first got into the world of champagne?
Frank Schilling: It all happened a bit by accident. After selling my internet business, I found that I really enjoyed projects that involved people and solving problems. I opened Mykonos
Cayman, a restaurant in the Cayman Islands, because I wanted to create a place where people could come together and celebrate. But there was a challenge—getting enough champagne for our Sunday brunches. Not only did I struggle with the quantity, but I also didn’t feel great after drinking traditional Champagne because of the yeast and the Chardonnay grape. That’s when I thought, "There has to be a better alternative." And that’s how Aphrodise was born!
Resident Magazine: How did the idea for Aphrodise come to life?
Frank Schilling: On a trip to Greece, I discovered the Xinomavro grape, which is traditionally used for red wines but in sparkling form, it was unlike anything I had ever tasted. I partnered with Gabi Petrylaite, and together, we worked to curate and market Aphrodise. Our goal was to create something that wasn’t just a Champagne alternative, but a drink that people could enjoy in the sun, at brunch, or during long afternoon gatherings. We wanted something refreshing, with a smooth finish, and that could be consumed in large quantities without the typical "hangover" feeling. That’s what makes Aphrodise unique.
Resident Magazine: And speaking of uniqueness, what sets Aphrodise apart from other sparkling wines on the market?
Frank Schilling: It’s really all about how it makes you feel. Aphrodise has a slightly bitter finish, almost like Aperol but much lighter. It’s not as heavy as Champagne, which makes it
easier to drink in large quantities, especially in hot weather. And the best part? People say they feel great the next day—no headaches, no sluggishness. It has a remarkable recovery profile. That’s really been one of the key differences in how people experience it.
Resident Magazine: Aphrodise has gained quite a following already. What goes into crafting such a distinctive product?
Frank Schilling: A lot of love and attention to detail. The Xinomavro grape is grown in highaltitude, dry soils in northern Greece, which gives it a distinct flavor. It’s a rare grape and using it for sparkling wine is almost unconventional. But it has this unique quality that really stands out when made into a bubbly. We work hard to preserve that natural, crisp flavor and let the grape shine.
Resident Magazine: What foods pair best with Aphrodise?
Frank Schilling: Aphrodise is quite versatile when it comes to food pairings. It’s fantastic with fish, red meats, and poultry. It’s a very forgiving wine, which makes it a great choice for a wide range of dishes.
Resident Magazine: Your dedication to quality is evident. Now, Aphrodise is more than just a drink—it’s also part of some incredible charitable events. Can you tell us about that?
Frank Schilling: Giving back is very important to me. Aphrodise has been involved in several charity events this year, including the 79th U.N. General Assembly and the 12th Annual First Ladies Luncheon in New York. We've supported the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, the LongHouse Reserve’s Summer Benefit, the enCourage Kids Foundation food tasting event and several other initiatives, including the LightHouse School Fundraiser, which raised $500,000 for children with special needs in the Cayman Islands. We believe that when you succeed, you have a responsibility to help others, and Aphrodise is proud to be part of these meaningful events.

Frank Schilling: We’re really excited for what’s coming in 2025. We’ll be launching a new product, Aphrodise Blanc—a white sparkling wine made from the same Xinomavro grape. We’ve refined it into a lighter, crisper bubbly, and we’re looking forward to seeing how it resonates with our customers. I’m curious to see whether they’ll prefer the rosé or the blanc— both are fantastic, but it’ll be fun to find out!
Resident Magazine: It’s clear that Aphrodise is already making waves in the Champagne world. Have you received any recognition for your efforts?
Frank Schilling: We’ve been fortunate to gain some great recognition in a short amount of time. Aphrodise won Gold at the 2024 Glass of Bubbly Awards, Bronze at the 2024 Decanter World Wine Awards, and was named a 2024 Editor’s Top Pick by Food & Beverage Magazine. We’ve also built a loyal following, especially in exclusive markets like Los Angeles and the Hamptons. We’re starting to see celebrities really embrace Aphrodise, which is exciting.

From the impeccably designed Omni PGA Frisco Resort to the serene Omni Barton Creek, this trip wasn’t just a getaway; it was an invitation to experience Texan culture and charm firsthand. Come with me as I relive each unforgettable moment.
A Grand Welcome at Omni PGA Frisco Resort
Walking into the Omni PGA Frisco Resort felt like stepping into a modern sanctuary, where every detail is perfectly crafted. Imagine breezing through an effortless check-in before being handed a welcome cocktail at the Lookout Lounge. The refreshing combination of flavors, paired with gourmet tapas, instantly set the tone for the indulgent experiences to come.
Step into the Ice House, nestled within the PGA District of Frisco, where the tantalizing aroma of slow-smoked barbecue sets the stage for an unforgettable cooking demo led by seasoned Pitmaster Rick Adamo. With over 30 years of expertise, Adamo shared his secrets to achieving perfectly tender Certified Angus Beef briskets, slow-smoked over post oak for 10 to 12 hours. The menu showcased a mouthwater-
ing array of flavors, from beer-brined, air-dried chicken to black pepper sausage and jalapeño cheddar sausage crafted by Syracuse Sausage in nearby Ponder, Texas. Chef de Cuisine Michael Stewart, boasting 25 years of culinary artistry, complemented the meats with weekly housemade pickles and a trio of barbecue sauces— Dr Pepper, Tangy, and Carolina—that elevated each bite. The evening continued with a dinner featuring these expertly prepared dishes, paired with the lively camaraderie of casual recreation in the Swing Bay.
As the evening drew to a close, I ventured outdoors to the optional 10-hole short course at The Swing. The cool Texan night air enveloped me as I teed off under a blanket of stars, each swing illuminated by the soft glow of the course lights. It was the perfect blend of thrill and tranquility—a serene end to a night filled with flavor, fun, and unforgettable experiences.
Immersed in Culture and Relaxation
The next morning, start your day with me at the Ryder Cup Grille, savoring a hearty farm-to-table breakfast that celebrates Texas’s agricultural bounty. Then, let’s head to The Star, home of the Dallas Cowboys. Touring this world-class facility offered a fascinating glimpse into the intersection of sports legacy and architectural brilliance. A relaxed lunch at the Lounge by Topgolf, complete with Swing Bay access, provided a delightful midday pause. As the afternoon unfolded, I found myself savoring a quiet moment of respite by a poolside cabana, the warm sun and gentle breeze providing a soothing embrace. Alternatively, you might imagine retreating to the Mokara Spa, where the tranquil ambiance and expert treatments offer a true escape from the day’s pace, leaving you refreshed and renewed for the evening ahead.
Dinner at Trick Rider was an experience to remember. Stepping inside felt like entering a modern homage to Texas’s rich rodeo heritage, where every detail told a story. The hand-cut crystal horse chandelier cast a soft glow across
the room, drawing attention to the centerpiece—a striking horseshoe-shaped bar that exuded charm and character. As I settled into my seat, I was greeted with a menu that read like an invitation to indulge. Each dish—whether it was the tender, perfectly grilled steaks or the fresh, succulent seafood and shellfish—was a celebration of flavor and artistry. The ambiance wrapped me in its seamless blend of rustic charm and contemporary sophistication, making every moment of the meal feel both personal and extraordinary. It was a dining experience grounded in tradition yet elevated by impeccable attention to detail.
After dinner, we gathered in the inviting elegance of the Chairman’s Suite for an intimate evening of conversation and indulgence. The suite, spanning 1,545 square feet, offered more than just luxurious surroundings; it created a warm and welcoming atmosphere perfect for unwinding. Floor-to-ceiling windows showcased sweeping views of the lush championship golf courses, while the private balconies, with their cozy outdoor seating, invited quiet reflection under the night sky. Inside, the glow of the room’s soft lighting set the tone for the bespoke experience. A delightful array of fresh fruits, desserts and a chocolate fountain awaited, paired with thoughtfully selected wines and after-dinner cocktails. As the fire’s warmth danced in harmony with laughter and conversation, the evening encapsulated the perfect blend of comfort and sophistication—a fitting tribute to the day’s adventures.
Road Tripping to Omni Barton Creek
Friday began with a delightful breakfast at The Apron, where each dish was a feast for the senses. My meal started with the Brisket Benedict—a decadent combination of smoked brisket, pickled jalapeños, creamy hollandaise, and flaky biscuits. Accompanying the main dish were fresh fruit and yogurt parfaits, elegantly paired with mimosas to add a light, celebratory touch to the morning.
Then, picture yourself with me at Blue Lacey, a one-of-a-kind boutique featuring women’s cowboy boots, hats, and luxury leather goods. Here, we took part in a cowboy hat activation—This immersive activity offered a fun and meaningful way to connect with Texas’s
proud heritage, allowing us to take home not just a piece of its craftsmanship but also a memory to cherish.
Around noon, we hopped into a Lexus LC Hybrid for an exhilarating journey to Waco. The instinctive feel of the Multistage Hybrid system combined with the captivating style and heart-pounding performance made the drive as indulgent as it was smooth. The car's luxurious design and thoughtful features felt like a natural extension of the elegance of this trip.
Along the way, we couldn’t resist a sweet stop at the Dr. Pepper Museum. The nostalgia of soda fountains and the rich history of this iconic brand were a treat in themselves. At Magnolia Market’s Silos, I found myself strolling through charming shops and gardens that epitomized
rustic simplicity and curated elegance. Every corner seemed to invite exploration, making it a space I could have lingered in all day.
Arriving at Omni Barton Creek Resort in the early evening, I was greeted by a sunset cocktail at Jim Bob’s. Imagine taking in the sweeping views of the Texas Hill Country while sipping on a Jim Bob’s Spicy Margarita or perhaps a perfectly balanced Last Word Martini—cocktails as memorable as the view itself.
Surrounded by panoramic views of the Austin Hill Country, dinner that evening at Blind Salamander blended a family-style atmosphere with refined dishes curated by the chef’s choice menu, thoughtfully crafted under the leadership of Executive Chef Francisco Baca. Each dish, from the buttery seafood to the vibrant
seasonal vegetables, felt like a celebration of local flavors. Chef Baca’s creativity infused every plate with a story, making it a meal to linger over. Custom wine pairings and an inventive, garden-inspired cocktail menu further elevated the experience. It was a dining affair that felt both intimate and indulgent, leaving a lasting impression of elegance and imagination.
Crafted Experiences to Cherish
Saturday was all about celebrating Texan craftsmanship and savoring each moment. Breakfast at Texas Spice was a leisurely start, offering a mix of classic breakfast entrees and lighter options. With a focus on local ingredients and southern flavors, the restaurant delivered a menu that felt both hearty and thoughtfully curated.
We then took a short trip to Deep Eddy Vodka’s Tasting Room, a bright and welcoming space nestled in Dripping Springs. The educational flight and tasting took us on a journey through the artistry of Texas spirits, highlighting the brand’s commitment to high-quality, locally sourced ingredients.
Lunch at Salt Lick BBQ was next, a visit to one of Texas’s most iconic barbecue destinations. It was celebrated for its open-pit barbecue style that fills the air with the unmistakable aroma of smoked perfection. The lively, communal atmosphere brought an added layer of warmth, where the simple pleasure of sharing a meal became an integral part of the experience.
Picture the afternoon as a harmonious blend of leisure and style. Whether you golf on the resort’s pristine championship course, enjoy quality time with family on the playful puttputt course, or play a tennis or pickleball match, there’s something for everyone. Alternatively, you could simply lounge by the sparkling pool in a private cabana, soaking up the warm sun and relishing the tranquil ambiance.
The Alvies Boot Party in the Palmer Suite added a true Texas style flair to the day. Known for their handmade boots, Alvies provided a unique opportunity to choose our custommade boots. With its refined ambiance, the luxurious Palmer Suite was the perfect backdrop for this fun and personalized experience. The craftsmanship and comfort of the boots made this an unforgettable moment, blending
Texas tradition with a modern twist.
As the evening unfolded, dinner at Bob’s Steak & Chop House was a celebration of indulgence and refinement. Known worldwide for its exceptional dining experience, Bob’s captivated us from the moment we were greeted with extraordinary cocktails and artfully presented appetizers. The atmosphere was warm yet elevated, setting the perfect tone for what was to come. For the main course, the house specialties took center stage—perfectly aged steaks, succulent chops, and sides that felt like stars in their own right. Each bite was a bold, flavorful masterpiece, embodying the meticulous craftsmanship and quality that make Bob’s a legend. This exquisite meal was more than just dinner; it was a fitting tribute to the end of an unforgettable journey, leaving me with flavors and memories to savor long after the last course.
As the evening drew to a close, "Over the Top S’mores" on the lawn provided a whimsical, joyful conclusion to an unforgettable day. Picture this: the warm glow of a crackling fire, the sweet aroma of marshmallows roasting to golden perfection, and the rich scent of hot chocolate filling the air. A charming setup featured an array of indulgent toppings and artisanal ingredients, inviting creativity in crafting the ultimate s’more. The cozy ambiance, paired with the laughter and chatter of friends under the night sky, made this a sensory delight. With the cool evening breeze and the taste of melted chocolate and crisp graham crackers lingering, it was a perfect moment of comfort and connection, embodying the warmth and generosity of Texas.
A Graceful Farewell
Sunday invited tranquility and reflection. I began with a 50-minute relaxation massage at Mokara Spa, each moment melting away lingering tension and leaving me utterly rejuvenated. The spa’s serene ambiance, featuring soothing colors and state-of-the-art amenities, created an environment of pure relaxation.
Afterward, I indulged in the hot tub and sauna, letting the warmth seep into my muscles and melt away any lingering tension. This relaxing interlude flowed seamlessly into a light, refreshing lunch at Spa Creek Café. I enjoyed a salad of locally sourced seasonal greens and fresh veg-
etables that balanced flavor and nourishment beautifully. It was the perfect way to wrap up my spa experience–rejuvenated and fully prepared for the road trip home.
As I departed in a Lexus LX Hybrid, it felt like the perfect culmination of my journey—elegant, powerful, and effortlessly refined. The car transformed the drive home into a journey of its own. Gliding effortlessly through the Texas landscape allowed me to savor the memories of the past few days in quiet comfort. Every thoughtful feature, from the plush seats to the intuitive technology, echoed the luxury of the experiences I’d just left behind.

Last week, I had the absolute pleasure of staying at the Wyndham Alltra in Samaná, an experience I’ll never forget. If you haven’t yet heard of Samaná, let me introduce you to this hidden, up-and-coming gem on the northeastern coast of the Dominican Republic. Known for its breathtaking landscapes and pristine natural beauty, Samaná is quickly becoming one of the country’s top destinations. With recent infrastructure developments, including a scenic boardwalk and a modern tourist pier, the area is transforming, evolving into what Tourism Minister David Collado calls a “true paradise.”
The region’s dedication to sustainable tourism is exemplified by initiatives like the Samaná Sustainable Tourism Circuit, which balances economic growth with environmental preservation—a true model for responsible tourism.
On November 9th, I arrived at Santo Domingo Airport, where I was warmly greeted by a friendly driver who whisked me off to the hotel. The scenic two- to three-hour drive unfolded like a preview of the Dominican Republic’s natural beauty, with rolling hills, lush greenery, and glimpses of the sparkling coastline. By the time we arrived, I felt fully immersed in the Caribbean atmosphere. Stepping into the Wyndham was like crossing into a paradise of relaxation and luxury. The concierge
greeted me with a warm smile, a hot towel, and a refreshing drink—just what I needed after my journey.
After settling in, I met Melanie, the tour coordinator, who took me on a walk around the property for a quick snack. The Wyndham’s vacation energy was infectious: swaying palm trees, a gentle ocean breeze, and an inviting open bar all added to the ambiance. At the beachside restaurant, I ordered a delicious hot dog and a classic piña colada. With a snack and drink in hand, I settled on a lounge chair by the ocean, savoring every bite while listening to the soothing sounds of the waves. Surrounded by natural beauty, with lush greenery framing the coastline, this was a day I’d recommend to anyone seeking a mix of adventure, history, and relaxation.

After the boat tour, we anchored at a pristine beach for lunch. A fantastic buffet awaited us, serving authentic Dominican flavors, including perfectly seasoned chicken and a variety of sides. After lunch, I headed to a lounge chair on the beach to relax, taking a nap, sipping on a cold beer, and eventually wading into the turquoise waters. It was the perfect way to recharge before returning to the resort.
Around 4 p.m., we made our way back to Wyndham Alltra Samaná. I spent the evening enjoying the oceanfront resort, basking in the golden hues of the sunset with my feet in the water. With a beer in hand and the sound of waves in the background, I couldn’t help but reflect on how magical the day had been. The All Inclusive Resort truly offers a blend of adventure, relaxation, and luxury, making it a destination I’ll always remember.

I indulged in a glass of crisp white wine, followed by a mouthwatering plate of pasta with arrabbiata sauce, and finished the evening with a decadent dessert. Dining at Bella was the perfect way to end the night, leaving me in awe of the destination that is Wyndham Alltra Samaná.
Day 3: Culinary Highlights and Luxurious Farewell
The next morning, we started our day with the delightful breakfast buffet, a spread full of fresh and flavorful options that catered to every taste. Afterward, we had the opportunity to explore some of the high-end accommodations the property offers. One standout was a spacious suite designed to comfortably accommodate up to eight guests—an ideal choice for families, bachelor or bachelorette parties, or long-term stays.
This suite was thoughtfully designed for extended visits, featuring two luxurious king-size
beds and two queen-size beds, offering ample space for larger groups. What truly stood out was the fully equipped kitchen, which made it easy for guests to prepare their own meals—a significant convenience for those planning to stay for an extended period. Additionally, the private balcony offered breathtaking ocean views, providing the perfect spot to unwind and take in the beauty of Samaná.
The suite’s setup speaks to Wyndham’s commitment to catering to long-term stays, with thoughtful details that make guests feel at home. The welcome drinks, served in fresh pineapples, were both delicious and refreshing, while the dancers, full of joy and enthusiasm, made us feel like we had arrived in paradise.
After checking in, we headed to the beach, where the resort’s charm truly began to shine. With a beachside bar and restaurant, it was easy to relax while soaking in the stunning ocean views. This space wasn’t just perfect for unwinding; it also worked beautifully for those balancing a bit of work. With laptops in hand, we clinked glasses, toasted to the start of an incredible getaway, and effortlessly blended work with leisure.

After the salsa lesson, I headed straight for the beach, which was absolutely breathtaking. The crystal-clear water sparkled under the sun, inviting everyone to take a dip. Comfortable lounge chairs dotted the beach, and I found the perfect spot to soak in the sun and let the sounds of the ocean wash over me. Viva V Samaná’s beachfront location perfectly captures the essence of a tropical paradise, combining vibrant energy onshore with serene beauty at the water’s edge.
After enjoying the ocean, it was time for lunch at La Marche, the beachfront restaurant, which did not disappoint. The buffet catered to every palate, offering everything from hotdogs and pizza to rice and chicken. My group couldn’t get enough of the brick oven-fired pizza and made sure to be first in line to grab a fresh slice hot out of the oven. Adding to the experience was the convenience of ordering drinks from the bar to enjoy with the meal. With shaded seating and a cool ocean breeze, La Marche was the ideal spot to refuel before exploring more of what Viva V Samaná had to offer.
The Spa: A Tranquil Escape
After lunch and some time at the beach, it was time to head back to my room to prepare for the spa experience. From the moment I arrived, the spa exuded serene beauty and calm, welcoming me with a soothing cup of tea. The spa treatment itself was nestled in a peaceful, private area surrounded by nature. The sound of gentle rain falling outside added an extra layer of relaxation. My session began with a detoxifying black coating applied to my skin, designed to draw out impurities and rejuvenate the body. After a refreshing shower, I enjoyed a deeply relaxing massage followed by a luxurious soak in a warm bath. With tea in hand, I sat under the spa’s beautiful canopy, savoring the moment. The combination of soothing scents, expert service, and natural surroundings made this one of the most relaxing spa experiences I’ve ever had.
Dinner at Mar y Fuego: A Perfect End to the Day
After such a wonderful day filled with the beach, buffet, ocean, and spa, it was time to prepare for dinner at Mar y Fuego, the resort’s exceptional seafood restaurant. The ambiance was magical, with the sound of the ocean and a warm, inviting atmosphere that perfectly capped off the day.
The service was impeccable, and the wine selection paired beautifully with the seafood dishes. I enjoyed a flavorful shrimp entrée, each bite a testament to the restaurant’s dedication to quality and freshness. Surrounded by great company, delicious food, and the serene beauty of Viva V Samaná, this dinner was the perfect way to reflect on the day’s incredible experiences.
Activities: Endless Fun and Unique Experiences
What sets Viva V Samaná apart is the variety of activities offered right at the resort. One of my personal highlights was trying archery, where a skilled instructor guided us through the experience. It was exhilarating to aim and shoot
under the warm sun, adding a unique touch to the day.
In the evenings, the resort’s amphitheater comes alive with vibrant live performances. These shows feature talented performers and create a dynamic atmosphere filled with music, dance, and cultural artistry.
For water lovers, the resort offers kayaking and catamaran outings, perfect for exploring the ocean and soaking in the stunning views. For those who prefer a slower pace, bingo games on the beach provide a fun and social way to unwind. With such diverse options, every guest can create unforgettable memories, whether seeking adventure or relaxation.
A Memorable Final Day
Our last day began with a leisurely breakfast at La Marche, featuring a beautiful buffet and a poolside setting that added to the ambiance. After breakfast, we toured the property, exploring pickleball courts, kayaking areas, the archery range, and the spa. The range of amenities highlighted Viva V Samaná’s commitment to creating a well-rounded experience for every guest.
Back at my room, I enjoyed my private outdoor area with a plunge pool and lounge chairs, surrounded by lush trees. This secluded retreat was perfect for relaxing with room service and champagne or simply enjoying the tranquil surroundings. While the room itself was extremely comfortable, the outdoor space made it truly special.
Later, we headed to the beach for one last visit. The area had everything—buffet, bar, lounge chairs, and the stunning ocean. My group and I stayed until late afternoon, drinking beers, taking pictures, and savoring every moment. It was a magnificent way to end our time at Viva V Samaná, creating memories we’ll cherish forever.
Final Night: A Memorable Farewell
After a day at the beach, it was time to prepare for our final dinner. For this special evening, we dined at Fusión, where the food and ambiance were exceptional. I indulged in shrimp linguine bursting with flavor and finished the meal with a decadent tiramisu. The attentive service and excellent wine selection made it a perfect sendoff meal.
Following dinner, the resort hosted its famous White Party, a signature event that celebrates the vibrant culture of the Dominican Repub-
lic. Guests, dressed in white, gathered for an evening of music, dancing, and joy under the Caribbean stars. The atmosphere was electric, with non-stop dancing and infectious energy that brought everyone together in celebration. This unique event perfectly captures the resort’s dedication to creating memorable moments, immersing guests in the warmth and spirit of the Dominican culture. It was a night that left me with lasting memories and a deeper connection to the destination.

My stay at the ARIA Resort & Casino made the trip even more exceptional. With its sleek, modern design, world-class amenities, and impeccable service, ARIA set the standard for comfort and sophistication. From the moment I arrived, I felt like I was stepping into a sanctuary of style, and I can confidently say it’s the perfect place to call home while exploring all that Vegas has to offer.
Walking the World in One Street: The Hotels of Vegas
Las Vegas hotels are more than places to stay— they’re immersive experiences that transport you to entirely different worlds. Exploring the Strip felt like a whirlwind tour of global landmarks, all within a few miles. At Caesar’s Palace, I was surrounded by Roman grandeur, with marble columns, sculptures, and fountains that made me feel like royalty. Just down the street, the Paris Las Vegas charmed me with its cobblestone streets and a half-scale replica of the Eiffel Tower that lit up the night sky.
The Bellagio offered a more sophisticated atmosphere, with its iconic fountains and a seasonal display at the Conservatory & Botanical
Garden that felt like walking through a living work of art. The Cosmopolitan brought a fresh, modern vibe to the mix. I couldn’t resist a visit to the dazzling Chandelier Bar, where I sipped on their signature Cosmopolitan cocktail while marveling at the three-story crystal masterpiece surrounding me. At New York-New York, I felt like I’d stepped into the heart of Manhattan, complete with its own Empire State Building and Statue of Liberty. I indulged in a slice of New York-style pizza and explored the massive Hershey’s store, which was as playful as it was impressive.
The Luxor, with its striking pyramid design, transported me to ancient Egypt. Walking through its hieroglyphic-lined halls was a memorable experience, and the light beam shooting into the sky from its peak is an unmistakable part of the Vegas skyline. Mandalay Bay added a different kind of excitement with its mesmerizing aquarium. Walking through the tunnel surrounded by sharks and exotic fish was an escape into an underwater world. Each of these hotels added a unique layer to my Vegas adventure, making the city feel like the ultimate playground for the curious and luxury-loving traveler.
Thrills and Curtain Calls
Las Vegas is known for its lights and nightlife, but my trip uncovered so much more, blending adrenaline-filled adventures and awe-inspiring entertainment. Just beyond the Strip, I ventured into Nevada’s rugged landscape for an exhilarating ATV ride through the desert mountains. The rocky terrain and sweeping views offered a striking contrast to the city’s glitz, giving me a chance to connect with nature in a way I hadn’t expected. The open-air ride was as thrilling as it was scenic—a side of Vegas that every adventurer should experience.
Back in the city, I visited the newly opened Sphere—a true masterpiece of innovation and entertainment. The exterior is impressive enough, but stepping inside was like entering another world. Upon arrival, I was greeted by their AI robot, who charmed everyone with witty jokes and playful observations. The planetarium-style show was a visual journey around the globe, featuring nature, cultures, animals, space, and more. It was breathtaking, immersive, and unlike anything I’ve experienced before.
No Vegas trip would be complete without a magic show, and I was lucky enough to see David Blaine at the Wynn Las Vegas. His performance was classic Blaine—full of interactive, jaw-dropping tricks, with plenty of audience participation. As a bonus, his daughter’s acrobatic routine was a show-stealer, adding a heartwarming and impressive element to the night.

CATCH Las Vegas delivered a memorable dining experience, blending Asian-influenced sushi, seafood, and steak with a chic, glamorous vibe. The floral tunnel entrance was just the beginning of the magic. I savored the branzino, filet skewers, and the decadent wagyu and lobster sushi roll, each dish as visually stunning as it was flavorful. Of course, I couldn’t leave without trying the iconic "Hit Me" Chocolate Cake—a show-stopping dessert featuring layers of roasted white chocolate ice cream, liquid "Klondike," and brownie. The interactive moment of cracking it open made the indulgence even more fun.
Scarpetta at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas
For Italian cuisine with a modern twist, Scarpetta was a standout. The restaurant’s name, meaning "to savor every last bite," perfectly captures the experience here. Our family-style feast included their signature spaghetti with tomato and basil—simple yet exquisite—as well as branzino, filet of beef, and roasted chicken. Starters like the beef carpaccio and caprese set the tone for a meal that was both elegant and satisfying.
TAO Asian Bistro at The Venetian Resort
TAO was a feast for the senses, combining bold pan-Asian flavors with dramatic décor. Walking into the space, I was greeted by a 20foot Buddha statue and koi ponds that set a serene yet opulent tone. Highlights from the menu included the lobster wontons, pork gyozas, orange chicken, and sushi rolls. Each dish brought a burst of flavor, making it clear why TAO is a favorite for both dining and nightlife. It’s the perfect spot for those who want to seamlessly transition from a delicious meal to a high-energy evening out.

Institut Curie presented its prestigious Marie Curie Legacy Medal to Academy Award-winning actor and activist Jane Fonda at an exclusive Gala event held at the iconic Rainbow Room in New York City on November 19th, 2024. Awarded for only the second time, the Medal recognizes citizens who, through their public advocacy, increase awareness about cancer, a major global health threat. Jane Fonda, through her personal battle with cancer and her dedication to shedding light on the disease, perfectly embodies the spirit of this award.
The Institut Curie Gala, under the high patronage of French Ambassador Laurent Bili, provides an important opportunity to showcase the latest advancements in cancer research. The evening, co-chaired by Rear Admiral, Dr. Susan Blumenthal, and Mr. and Mrs. Mathieu and Virginie Chabran, carries forward Madame Marie Curie’s legacy of forging close scientific bonds between France and the United States and Americans support of her work in pursuit of scientific breakthroughs that will improve the health of people worldwide.
By presenting this honorary award, the Institut Curie emphasizes the importance of continuing to break the taboos surrounding the disease and supporting cancer research. Although cancer treatments have considerably improved, it is still essential to talk openly about it to reduce the stigma that may still exist. Event Honored Mike Rawls, CEO Xome Holdings LLC and raised more than $3.1 million for Critical Cancer Research
The Samuel Waxman Cancer Research Foundation (SWCRF) held the 27th Annual Collaborating for A Cure Gala at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City. This year’s event honored Mike Rawls, chief executive officer at Xome Holdings LLC. Rawls received the 2024 Distinguished Business Leader Award for his steadfast commitment to supporting cancer research. The Gala raised more than $3.1 million for critical cancer research.
SWCRF is recognized as being a leader in an international movement to invest more funding in science aimed at stemming the global rising incidence of cancer due to aging. Most recently, the Foundation joined forces with organizations such as the Mark Foundation for Cancer Research, Israel Cancer Research Fund, Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Melanoma Research Alliance, Triple Negative Breast Cancer Foundation, and others to spearhead research to better understand the complex link between aging and cancer.
"Last night's Collaborating for a Cure Gala was a remarkable celebration of generosity and unity in the fight against cancer," said Dr. Samuel Waxman, SWCRF CEO and Founder. "The crucial funds raised will directly support our expanding international network of scientists, empowering vital research and driving us closer to eradicating cancer worldwide."

Billboard Recording Artist, Entrepreneur Consuelo Vanderbilt Costin and designer Ximena Kavalekas have teamed up to create a new line of clutches which aim to be “classic, elegant and contemporary,” Vanderbilt Costin said, at an exclusive sneak peek held at New York’s exclusive Hotel, The Mark.
The new collection of clutches, designed by Kavalekas and Vanderbilt Costin, feature a gold strap and comes in three colors: black, royal blue, and nude.
Consuelo Vanderbilt Costin is a Billboardcharting artist, entrepreneur and philanthropist
who has performed alongside Joe Cocker Mya Tweet and many others and is the co-founder of SohoMuse, a networking site for creatives. She is also the great-great-great niece of Consuelo Vanderbilt, the Duchess of Marlborough, and a seventh-generation descendant of shipping and railroad industrialist Cornelius Vanderbilt. Having grown up in England and studied in Italy, she is a fixture in the fashion world and was recently a judge at the Elysian Impact’s second annual Catwalk Furbaby runway show at New York Fashion Week. Vanderbilt Costin also recently released her own line of jewelry on HSN called The Homage, honoring the five generations of women in her family.
Ximena Kavalekas is an Ecuadorian fashion designer who studied at the famed fashion school, Polimoda, in Florence, Italy, as well as L’Academia Italiana. She represented Italian brands in Miami before launching her handbag label in 2015. Known for honoring Italian craftsmanship while fusing it with a modern aesthetic, her handbags have been worn by Hollywood celebrities, solidifying the brand’s reputation in the luxury market. In 2020, the brand opened its first flagship store in the Miami Design District.

His death was not the end of our relationship. On the contrary, it revealed a new way of communicating. It was a deepening of the bond that had been forged during twenty years together as a couple and an epic cancer journey.
