CRAFTING THE FUTURE

An Exclusive Conversation with Michael Achenbaum and Sean Largotta

In the heart of New York City’s Meatpacking District, the Gansevoort Hotel stands as a beacon of visionary innovation and luxury. Under the guidance of Michael Achenbaum and Sean Largotta, this iconic hotel has evolved from a pioneering project into a cultural and social hub that reflects the dynamic landscape of New York's hospitality industry. As the masterminds behind the Gansevoort, Achenbaum and Largotta have continuously pushed the boundaries of luxury, seamlessly blending hospitality with lifestyle and cultural engagement. In this exclusive conversation, they share their insights on the evolution of the Gansevoort, the integration of technology, their contributions to the cultural fabric of the Meatpacking District, and their exciting future projects.

VISION AND EVOLUTION

The Gansevoort Meatpacking NYC was a pioneering project in its neighborhood. How do you see its role and influence evolving in the dynamic landscape of New York's hospitality industry over the next decade?

Michael Achenbaum: We launched Gansevoort in early 2001, transforming a gritty neighborhood into a luxury hotspot. Over the next decade, we envision Gansevoort continuing to set trends. The Meatpacking District has evolved from broken cobblestones and decrepit buildings to a renovated and renewed nightlife hub and a high-end retail and cultural center reminiscent of exclusive European clubs and resorts. We’re committed to maintaining this blend of luxury and cultural engagement. The introduction of Seven24 Collective, our private members' club, reinforces our vision of a 24/7 lifestyle experience, offering an exclusive environment to experience everything from your favorite morning coffee to vibrant late-night entertainment and anything you need or want in between.

REDEFINING LUXURY

What were the key elements you focused on during the recent renovations of the Gansevoort?

Michael Achenbaum: The recent $40 million renovation of the Gansevoort Hotel was all about elevating every aspect of the guest experience. We redesigned every space, from the lobby to the rooftop, ensuring that each area exudes luxury and comfort. The rooftop, for instance, now features updated amenities that blend seamlessly with the breathtaking views of New York City. We wanted to create a space where guests can relax and enjoy the cityscape, whether they’re lounging by the pool or sipping cocktails at sunset.

Sean Largotta: It's exciting to share the details of our recent renovations, which have significantly enhanced the hotel’s experience. My partner Michael and I spearheaded the transformation, repositioning the rooftop to create a truly unique and sophisticated space. Previously, the rooftop bar and Bagatelle were separate entities, but we’ve integrated a Mediterranean flair inspired by our summer visits to places like St. Tropez, Bondi, and Qashqai.

This transformed rooftop now features Saishin, a new omakase restaurant led by Michelin-star trained chefs. The restaurant is a glass jewel box in the sky. The rooftop has been designed not just for cocktails but also for intimate dinners, offering guests the opportunity to enjoy personalized culinary experiences. Eden is the ultimate city escape, which is right next to our iconic pool. It has a retractable glass roof enclosure and sliding walls, a brass-framed blue onyx-topped cocktail bar, stylish custom patterned lounge seating, Moroccan tiled floors, and an outdoor terrace with stunning Hudson River and city views.

Downstairs, we have introduced a membership club lounge that complements the rooftop ambiance. Guests enter through 13th Street into an exquisite study adorned with beautiful dark lacquer paint, giving it a cozy library feel. This space is perfect for members to relax, hold meetings, socialize with friends, or enjoy a cocktail.

Additionally, we created a 1970s retro-themed cocktail lounge called Dimes, which has a speakeasy vibe, a bowling alley, and karaoke facilities, accommodating up to 200 people. This area serves as a dynamic venue for evening entertainment, offering a seamless transition from daytime activities.

Our goal was to develop an inclusive destination for both our members and hotel guests, where they can feel comfortable and connected throughout the day and night. Whether it’s starting the day with work in the study, enjoying a celebratory dinner on the rooftop, or winding down in the club with friends, the space is designed to meet diverse needs.

TECHNOLOGY INTEGRATION

Technology continues to reshape hotel guest experiences. What innovative technologies has Gansevoort adopted recently, and how do they enhance the customer experience?

Sean Largotta: The integration of technology has been pivotal in redefining our guest experiences. We've incorporated advanced booking systems, personalized guest apps, and stateof-the-art room controls. Our renovation included tech-savvy amenities like smart rooms, where lighting, temperature, and entertainment can be controlled via a mobile app. We’re

also exploring AI-driven concierge services to offer personalized recommendations and seamless interactions. These innovations not only enhance convenience but also create a unique, tailored experience for each guest.

THE SEVEN24 COLLECTIVE

Can you tell us more about the concept and benefits of Seven24 Collective private membership club?

Michael Achenbaum: Seven24 Collective is designed to provide a holistic lifestyle experience for our members. The name itself signifies a 24-hour, seven-day-a-week experience, aligning with our vision of offering everything from morning coffee to latenight entertainment. Members can enjoy exclusive access to our state-of-the-art gym, luxurious spa treatments, and a variety of dining options within the hotel. The club also hosts a range of events, from unique liquor tastings to cultural evenings and networking sessions, ensuring there’s always something compelling happening.

Sean Largotta: Our goal was to create a space where members can seamlessly transition through their day. You can start with a workout in our newly expanded gym, have meetings in our co-working spaces, and end your day with dinner at one of our top-tier restaurants or a night out at Dimes. It’s all about flexibility and providing an environment that caters to the diverse needs of our members.

CULTURAL AND SOCIAL IMPACT

Hotels often play a significant role in the cultural and social spheres of their locales. Can you share how Gansevoort contributes to the cultural richness and social scene of the Meatpacking District?

Michael Achenbaum: Our goal has always been to create a cultural epicenter. We've partnered with local artists and cultural institutions to host exhibitions and events that reflect the vibrant spirit of the Meatpacking District. Our food and beverage offerings include top-tier restaurants like Saishin and Medusa, which not only attract locals but also serve as cultural hubs.

We aim to create a space where members can seamlessly transition through their day.
Michael Achenbaum

By integrating wellness facilities, co-working spaces, and social venues, we’ve created a dynamic environment where people can work, relax, and socialize. This blend of amenities not only enhances our role in the community but also aligns with our vision of a seamless lifestyle experience.

Sean Largotta: In London, our programming was heavily influenced by music, but in New York, we’ve expanded to include a broader range of cultural and social events. This reflects our commitment to listening to our members and the community, adapting our offerings to meet their interests and needs. It’s about creating a space where meaningful conversations and connections can happen.

FUTURE EXPANSIONS AND MARKETS

You've previously discussed expansion in various global markets. Are there new markets or locations that you are currently exploring for Gansevoort's expansion, and what makes these markets attractive to you?

Sean Largotta: We're excited about our upcoming project in the Hudson Valley. We’ve acquired a stunning 152-acre property that will offer a countryside retreat just a few hours from New York City. This site will feature an apple orchard, hiking trails, a spa, and luxurious accommodations. We’re also exploring opportunities in other vibrant markets where we can replicate our unique blend of luxury, culture, and community. Each new location is carefully chosen for its potential to enhance our brand and offer exceptional experiences to our guests.

Seven24 Collective is designed to provide a holistic lifestyle experience, from morning coffee to late-night entertainment.
Michael Achenbaum

A LOOK AHEAD

What can guests and members expect from the upcoming Hudson Valley project?

Michael Achenbaum: The Hudson Valley project is incredibly exciting for us. We’re planning a variety of amenities, including a spa designed by a world-renowned designer, a restaurant, a saloon, and private dining options. The property also features an apple orchard, hiking trails, and lakeside activities. Guests will be able to forfeit their cars at the door and explore the area using bicycles or golf carts, immersing themselves in the natural beauty of the surroundings.

Sean Largotta: We’ve spent a lot of time in the English countryside, which inspired us to create a similar experience in the Hudson Valley. It’s designed to be a family-friendly destination with a range of activities that cater to different interests. Whether you’re looking for a peaceful getaway or an active adventure, the Hudson Valley property will offer something for everyone. We’re looking forward to creating another space where guests can enjoy a seamless blend of luxury and nature.

PERSONAL LEADERSHIP AND VISION

Looking back at your extensive career in developing luxury properties, what personal philosophies or insights have guided you through the highs and lows of the industry?

Michael Achenbaum: Execution is everything. Great ideas are essential, but the ability to bring those ideas to life is what sets successful projects apart. Sean and I thrive on the creative process, but we’re also meticulous about details. We learn from both successes and failures, continually refining our approach to meet the evolving needs of our guests. Our philosophy is to create memorable experiences by paying attention to the details and adding our unique flair to everything we do.

Sean Largotta: We believe in the importance of flexibility and adaptability. The hospitality industry is constantly evolving, and we strive to stay ahead of the curve by listening to our guests and members, understanding their needs, and delivering experiences that exceed their expectations. It’s about creating spaces where people feel comfortable, inspired, and connected.

Michael Achenbaum and Sean Largotta continue to push the boundaries of luxury hospitality, creating spaces that blend comfort, culture, and community. Their commitment to innovation and excellence ensures that each project offers a unique and unforgettable experience. As they look to the future with projects like the Hudson Valley retreat, their vision of seamless, 24/7 luxury living remains at the forefront of the industry. The Gansevoort brand stands as a beacon of what can be achieved when passion, vision, and execution come together to redefine hospitality.

WILLIAM STANFORD DAVIS

Fashionably Late and Here to Stay In Hollywood. A Story of Perseverance and Panache

From the humble beginnings of a boy dreaming beneath the silver screen's magic to a beloved fixture on ABC's hit comedy Abbott Elementary, William Stanford Davis's journey is a testament to unwavering passion and relentless pursuit. A luminary in the realm of entertainment, Davis has captivated audiences with his exceptional talent and distinctive style, transcending the boundaries of mere acting to become a cultural icon.

In addition to his talent as an actor, Davis is known for his impeccable style, a blend of timeless elegance and a bold, personal flair that has become his signature. His fashion sense is as much a part of his identity as his acting prowess. "I was raised by my grandparents, and my grandmother was always dressed to the nines," he explains. "She taught me that whenever you

leave the house, you should look your best."

A trendsetter of the ages, whether he’s gracing the red carpet or simply stepping out for a casual stroll, Davis’s style choices reflect a deep appreciation for the art of dressing well. It’s not just about wearing clothes—it’s about telling a story through what he wears, projecting confidence, sophistication, and a sense of individuality that resonates with both fans and fashion enthusiasts alike.

A key element of his fashion is his collection of hats—over fifty of them, each with its own story. “Hats have always been a part of my life,” he says, recounting a memorable incident involving his stepfather’s prized Knox Jaguar hat, which he once “borrowed” and nearly lost in a street altercation. “For me, hats will never go out of style.”

This sartorial philosophy has served Davis well throughout his career, helping him stand out in an industry where image is essential. His style, a blend of classic sophistication and daring flair, mirrors his approach to acting - respectful of tradition yet unafraid to push boundaries.

Born into a world where theater and cinema were a luxury and a means of escape, Davis’s love for acting was sparked at an early age, thanks to his grandmother, who made sure his childhood was enriched with the arts, skipping school in favor of theatrical adventures. "We'd sneak out of school, and she'd tell the teachers she was taking me to the doctor, but instead, we'd be off to see the latest production at the theater or on the big screen,” Davis reminisces.

These experiences planted the seeds of his incredible journey, but it was the mesmerizing

charisma of Sidney Poitier, a towering figure on the screen, that left an indelible mark on the young boy's imagination. “Seeing Sidney Poitier was like seeing a god,” Davis recalls, “The way he carried himself, his dignity—it struck something deep within me.”

Despite this early inspiration, Davis’s journey was not straightforward. His high school years were marked by mischief and trouble, which led him to the Upward Bound program, where he was exposed to the Negro Ensemble Company, a New York City-based theater company and workshop established in 1967 by playwright Douglas Turner Ward, producer-actor Robert Hooks, and theater manager Gerald S. Krone. This opportunity further ignited his passion. “That was the moment I knew—I wanted to do that for the rest of my life,” Davis shares.

The setbacks are part of the journey—they’re what make you stronger.

And yet, the path to his life’s ambitions continued to twist and turn. Davis's journey to Hollywood reads like a scene from a gritty indie film–a car catching fire, odd jobs at truck stops and country-western radio stations, and countless rejections. "I got told 'no' so many times that I started thinking my name was No," Davis quips, his resilience shining through even in jest.

One particularly poignant moment came during an audition for the iconic sitcom "Friends." Overhearing his agent suggest he return to telemarketing, Davis found himself at a crossroads. Instead of succumbing to defeat, he used this setback as fuel. "It lit a fire in me," he explains, "and made me determined that no one would ever say that about my work again."

This determination led Davis to throw himself into his craft with renewed vigor. He attended classes and workshops and auditioned relentlessly. His persistence paid off when he landed a role on "NYPD Blue" after fifteen attempts. "Each 'no' just pushed me harder," Davis reflects. "The fact that they kept bringing me back meant they saw something in me."

If you admire someone’s work, ask yourself if you’re living your life in a way that would lead to that kind of success.

Davis's journey serves as a masterclass in perseverance for his youthful audience. His advice? “Don’t quit. Passion and dedication are key. Surround yourself with people who are better than you—they will push you to be better.” He emphasizes the importance of living a life that aligns with one’s ambitions, a lesson he learned from a teacher who once asked him, “Would Morgan Freeman live his life the way you’re living yours?”

Davis's breakout role as Mr. Johnson on Abbott Elementary has earned him critical acclaim and a devoted fan base. “Mr. Johnson is a lot like me in many ways,” Davis says. “He speaks his truth, even if it’s the strangest truth in the world. He believes in what he says, and I love that about him.”

Now heading into its fourth season, the show has become a cultural touchstone, praised for its witty writing and stellar performances. For Davis, it's more than just another gig. "Playing Mr. Johnson on Abbott Elementary is the best thing that's happened to me in my career," he shares, his enthusiasm palpable.

The success of Abbott Elementary has been a career-defining moment for Davis, who praises the show’s cast, crew, and writing. “The show has a message—it’s about how important our school system and teachers are,” Davis notes. “Everyone on this planet has been touched by a teacher, and this show puts a spotlight on that in a comedic yet profound way.”

Davis notes that Abbott Elementary's impact extends far beyond ratings and accolades. He recounts a touching moment in London when a Belgian teacher recognized him, illustrating the show's global reach and resonance with educators worldwide. It's these moments that make the long journey worthwhile for Davis. Beyond Abbott Elementary, Davis is working on new projects, including a pilot and several episodes for a show he’s written. “I’m really excited about what’s next,” Davis says, though he remains tight-lipped about the details, citing a bit of actor’s superstition. “But like many actors, I’m superstitious, so I don’t want to talk about them until they actually happen.”

As he looks to the future, Davis's focus isn't just on his own success. He's passionate about giving back, helping others, and making a

lasting impact. It's this combination of talent, perseverance, and generosity of spirit that sets William Stanford Davis apart in an industry known for its fickleness. "Even at 73, I feel like I'm just getting started," he says with characteristic optimism.

William Stanford Davis’s journey is a testament to the power of persistence, creativity, and unyielding passion. From his early days inspired by the legends of Hollywood to his breakout role on Abbott Elementary, Davis has remained true to his craft and values. As he looks to the future, with dreams of Broadway and new creative projects on the horizon, one thing is clear: Davis is far from done. His journey continues, and as he puts it, he’s going to “ride it until the wheels fall off.”

ULTIMATE SUMMER ESCAPE

Luxurious Stay at Aruba Marriott Resort & Stellaris Casino

Discover Luxury, Adventure, and Culture at Aruba's Premier Resort

Photo Courtesy: Aruba Marriott Resort & Stellaris Casino

Just a short flight from Miami, the Aruba Marriott Resort & Stellaris Casino beckons to a tropical paradise. Last weekend, I embarked on a three-day escape to this sun-drenched haven, stepping off the plane into a world where the stresses of everyday life melted away with the warm island breeze. Upon arrival, the resort's friendly staff extended a warm Aruban welcome, instantly setting the stage for an unforgettable Caribbean adventure.

Luxurious Accommodations and Top-notch Amenities

The Aruba Marriott Resort & Stellaris Casino offers a perfect blend of luxury accommodations and exciting activities. My room was a haven of comfort, featuring a private balcony overlooking the crystal-clear pool and mesmerizing Caribbean Sea beyond. The resort's proximity to the stunning blue beach, equipped with chairs, towels, and sunshades, made it easy to transition from room to sand in minutes.

One of the resort's highlights is its diverse dining options. The new hit restaurant Mercát offers an exquisite Mediterranean-inspired dining experience. I enjoyed a five-course dinner on their outdoor terrace, where the gentle ocean breeze complemented each dish perfectly. For a more casual option, the beachfront restaurant Waves serves delicious fare like chicken tenders alongside refreshing cocktails, all with breathtaking views.

Throughout my stay, I was impressed by the resort's ability to cater to different interests and preferences. The on-site Stellaris Casino entertains those feeling lucky, while the H2Oasis adults-only pool offers a tranquil, relaxing space. Whether you're seeking relaxation, adventure, culinary experiences, or cultural immersion, the Aruba Marriott Resort & Stellaris Casino provides something for everyone.

Diverse Dining Options at Aruba Marriott

Unique Beverage Experiences at the Resort

The resort also caters to those seeking unique beverage experiences. The resort's commitment to exceptional experiences is evident in offerings like the watermelon cocktail creation at Taste My Aruba, where guests can work with staff to craft their own drinks.

Mocktail and Cocktail Tasting

I participated in a mocktail tasting at Mercát, where the hotel has developed specialty non-alcoholic drinks that rival traditional cocktails in flavor and presentation. This offering shows the resort's commitment to catering to all guests' preferences.

For those who prefer alcoholic options, the resort doesn't disappoint. The resort offers its specialty cocktail, the Aruba Ariba, instantly putting you in the summer mood. At Campeones, the resort's on-site Mexican-inspired restaurant, I enjoyed a tequila tasting, which introduced us to various premium tequilas.

Memorable Unique Experiences at Aruba Marriott

One of the most memorable experiences was the sunset sail arranged by the resort. This twohour excursion features an open bar, lively music, and entertainment as you sail around the Aruba coastline. It's a perfect way to see Aruba from the water and mingle with other travelers while enjoying the stunning sunset views.

Beach and Pool Relaxation

The resort's beach and pool areas offer ample relaxation and recreation opportunities. I alternated between lounging by the adultsonly H2Oasis pool and enjoying the beautiful beach. The beach service was impeccable, and I particularly enjoyed sipping a piña co-

lada while relaxing on one of the unique chairs placed in the shallow water. For more active guests, ocean activities like tubing and windsurfing are available.

Full Moon Dinner at Atardi

A highlight of my stay was the Full Moon Dinner at Atardi, the resort's beachfront restaurant. This celestial dining experience unfolded under the stars, with guests seated at a low-rise communal table with cozy pillow seating. The five-course dinner was accompanied by beautiful music and mood lighting, culminating in a spiritual reading that added a touch of mysticism to the evening.

Off-Resort Activities and Local Attractions

While the resort offers plenty to keep guests entertained, it also serves as an excellent base for exploring the island. The resort arranged a tour of San Nicolas led by local artist Tito Bolivar, which introduced me to Aruba's burgeoning art scene. The vibrant murals throughout the town offered a unique perspective on Aruban culture and history.

Dining at Zeerovers and Exploring Aruba Aloe Factory

Another off-resort experience I enjoyed was visiting Zeerovers, a local waterfront seafood restaurant. Here, I savored some of the freshest seafood I've ever tasted, caught and served by the restaurant’s staff. The casual atmosphere and stunning water views made a perfect lunch spot and a taste of authentic Aruban cuisine. The resort also facilitated a visit to the Aruba Aloe Factory, where I learned about the cultivation and production of aloe, one of Aruba's most famous exports. The factory tour was educational and engaging, showcasing how this natural gift can transform into various products.

An Unforgettable Stay at Aruba Marriott Resort & Stellaris Casino

The Aruba Marriott Resort & Stellaris Casino expertly blends relaxation, adventure, and luxury. From the comfortable accommodations to the exceptional curated experiences and easy access to Aruba's natural beauty and culture, every part of my stay contributed to a feeling of endless summer.

The resort's ability to provide a well-rounded Caribbean vacation experience makes it an ideal destination for many travelers. Whether you're lounging by the pool, enjoying water sports, exploring local art and culture, or indulging in gourmet dining, you will find something that suits your preferences.

The Aruba Marriott Resort & Stellaris Casino offers more than just a place to stay; it provides a gateway to experiencing the best of Aruba. Its combination of on-site amenities and curated off-site experiences lets guests fully immerse themselves in Aruban culture while enjoying the comforts of a luxury resort. It's clear why this resort is a top choice for those seeking a tropical paradise no matter the time of year.

RAISING THE BAR

How La Fête Wine Co. is Revolutionizing Luxury Wines

Crafting a Legacy of Inclusivity and Excellence in Every Bottle with Donae Burston

In the realm of luxury wines, La Fête Wine Co. has emerged as a brand that embodies both sophistication and inclusivity. At the helm of this groundbreaking company is Donae Burston, a seasoned expert with over two decades of experience in the wine and spirits industry. Burston has crafted a brand that not only exemplifies excellence but also resonates with a diverse and discerning audience, challenging traditional boundaries and redefining what it means to enjoy luxury wine.

The Vision Behind La Fête Wine Co.

Donae Burston's journey into the wine industry was driven by a passion to create something unique—a brand that breaks traditional boundaries while embracing a diverse consumer base. Born in Baltimore, Maryland, Burston's career began in information technology, but his true calling emerged when he entered the alcohol industry in 2001. His tenure at the luxury giant LVMH, where he managed iconic brands like Dom Perignon and Veuve Clicquot, provided him with invaluable insights into the world of luxury beverages.

However, Burston noticed a glaring oversight in the wine industry: the lack of representation and engagement with multicultural consumers. This observation fueled his ambition to create a wine brand that would cater to this underrepresented market segment. In 2019, La Fête du Rosé was born, embodying a spirit of inclusivity and celebration. The name "La Fête" translates to "the rosé party," a gathering that welcomes everyone—a fitting metaphor for Burston's vision of a wine brand that transcends cultural and social boundaries.

A Trilogy of Luxury Wines

Under Burston's leadership, La Fête Wine Co. quickly rose to prominence, becoming the fastest-growing luxury imported rosé label in 2021 and the third-largest in the U.S. by 2023. The brand's portfolio has since expanded to include La Fête du Blanc and La Fête du Rouge, offering a trilogy of Provence wines that cater to the refined palates of luxury wine enthusiasts.

Each bottle of La Fête wine is a testament to Burston's commitment to quality and authenticity. Inspired by his love for travel and zest for life, these wines are crafted to offer a truly exceptional experience, one that invites consumers to indulge in the finer things in life while celebrating the beauty of diversity.

Empowering the Community

Beyond crafting exquisite wines, La Fête Wine Co. is dedicated to making a positive impact on the community. From its inception, the company has donated a portion of the proceeds from every bottle sold to programs that provide underrepresented youth with unique travel experiences. Additionally, La Fête supports organizations focused on creating opportunities for the BIPOC community within the wine and spirits industry.

This commitment to social responsibility is not just an afterthought; it is woven into the very fabric of the brand. By championing inclusivity and giving back, La Fête Wine Co. exemplifies what it means to be a purposedriven luxury brand.

This Black Business Month, let us raise a glass to La Fête and the countless other Black-owned businesses that continue to inspire and uplift communities around the world.

Summary

La Fête Wine Co., led by industry veteran Donae Burston, is revolutionizing luxury wines with a focus on inclusivity and excellence. La Fête's diverse and high-quality offerings, including La Fête du Rosé, Blanc, and Rouge, have quickly gained prominence. NYC ROOFTOP LOUNGES To Enjoy Year Round

Best Sky Views For The Rest of the Summer and Beyond

New York City is a wonderland for enjoyment, with amazing restaurants and plenty of fun and unique places and things to see and do all around town. But, there's truly nothing like experiencing New York from high above savoring sunset sips, great food and good vibes while gazing at the unmistakable skyline view that never gets old.

Below are some amazing rooftop lounges that have both indoor and outdoor spaces with the best city views and ambiance to enjoy in any season.

And since there are so many NY rooftop bars to choose from - with new spots joining the landscape every yearI decided to ask staffers in the know what makes their spot the quintessential rooftop lounge to visit, even if it's just once. Their interesting responses also below.

PHD at Dream Hotel Midtown "Dream in Lemons" Pop Up Decor - Daniel Nilsen Photography

25 w. 28th Street

Nubeluz (IG LINK @nubeluzbyjose) by renowned chef José Andrés, located on the 36th floor of the Ritz-Carlton New York Nomad is one of New York's newest rooftop lounges. In just over 2 years it has become a prime destination for those who enjoy an elevated experience far beyond the great heights from which they can view the beautiful city. This stunning indoor/outdoor space not only offers spectacular views, but also gorgeous, mindful decor and attention to detail: The attractive, well stocked round bar is front and center surrounded by floor to ceiling windows and luxe tables and chairs where guests can enjoy specially crafted cuisine from a Michelin star chef and his team, amidst the backdrop of aweinspiring urban vistas. Two cozy outdoor terraces on opposite sides of the bar each give uniquely different but equally exquisite uptown/downtown viewpoints. Plus, it's a great place to not only see the July 4th fireworks when they're on the Hudson River, but also the Times Square ball drop on New Year's Eve.

At Nubeluz, we blend New York City's timeless glamour with breathtaking rooftop views, offering an enchanting space to savor expertly handcrafted cocktails and curated bites." says Meg Grace Larcom, Senior Culinary Director

PHD TERRACE

210 W. 55th St.

PHD Terrace ooftop lounge at the Dream Hotel in midtown is run by Tao Group Hospitality and while it might not be one of New York's newest it definitely remains one of the best. Just north of Times Square with its optimum perch high above it all and expansive views of the entire area and beyond, PhD provides a perfect respite from all the hustle and bustle below. The terrace is outdoors, but contains a retractable roof. Plus, there are other indoor spaces including a newly renovated floor with wrap-around window walls, a private balcony, incredible urban views and live music, which makes it a great place to visit at any time of year.

And just because PhD Terrace is a well-known established oasis in the sky, doesn't mean it's content to rest on its reputation of providing spectacular sunset scenes and stellar service. The team regularly comes up with unique and interesting ways to enchant and charm: This summer they've turned the Terrace into a beautiful lemon filled paradise - complete with lemon trees, lemon decor, and assorted lemon cocktails! This

bright, citrusy pop-up will stay through the fall, and I encourage you to experience it with a Limoncello Spritz - or beverage of choice - in hand, paired with a yummy bite from their gourmet menu that includes the delicious "Lemon Lush": a frozen Sorrento lemon oozing with sweet lemony Italian granita. It's a definite Amalfi Coast vibe, but with concrete jungle energy!

And what makes PHD at the Dream Hotel THE NYC spot for tourists and locals alike?

"We are here in the center of it all so we get to entertain so many great New York guests, some coming from nearby buildings for after work drinks, some fun tourists coming from different shows and some performers stopping by from Lincoln center, and some famous people - you never know who you might see up here." says Gina Fontana, PhD's Director of Food & Beverage.

STARCHILD

305 W. 48th Street

Quite a few new hotels and their rooftop lounges joined the New York horizon in recent years, including the Starchild Rooftop on the 27th floor of the Civilian Hotel - a Broadway centric hotel that showcases theater memorabilia throughout, including the iconic shiny red Kinky Boots from the musical of the same name.

Brought to you by Carver Road Hospitality, Starchild Rooftop offers a climatized glass enclosed space with a retractable roof for your year-round drinking and dining enjoyment, plus exceptional panoramic city views. Also, on the weekends, after the sun has long set in the wee hours New York is notorious for, Starchild turns into an upscale nightclub in the sky

complete with bottle service and international DJs which makes for a decadent New York night under the stars.

"Starchild Rooftop offers striking, uninterrupted vistas of the skyline from Times Square to the Hudson River from its two fully outdoor patios. Operational year-round, Starchild’s retractable roof allows the property to go from enclosed in the winter months to open-air in seconds, perfect for a summer happy hour outdoors or cozying up inside and enjoying the cityscape on a chilly evening," says Evan Lopez, Director of Food & Beverage Operations.

3 Mitchell Place

Another chic spot that will appeal to New Yorkers and newcomers alike is Ophelia Lounge on the 26th floor of the Beekman Tower at 49th Street, just a short walk from the United Nations. This sexy space with burgundy red interiors reminiscent of a clubby vintage New York salon, has a 360° outdoor terrace that literally wraps around the indoor room surrounding it with some of the most magnificent Upper East side views you'll ever see. As with most rooftops, the outdoor area is coveted, plus a bit narrow, but the way it perfectly encircles the inside is really nicely done.

I personally love the fact that Ophelia is off the beaten path in a quieter mostly residential part of town, making it feel like a neighborhood secret. But when the elevators open at the top, you will certainly get what you came for - expansive east river views, well-crafted cocktails, 5-star food, and good music. Plus, some things you might not expect - like the tarot card reader on Thursday nights.

What makes this the quintessential NY spot? "It's casual, but fancy at the same time, and we have great food and drinks," said server and part-time host Jennifer Alvarez. "Plus, it's very romantic - a perfect place for date night, especially a first date. We've had people who have met here, gotten married and come back to tell us 'our first date was here'."

EQUINOX HOTEL/ELECTRIC LEMON

33 Hudson Yards

One of New York's newest hotels in one of the newest neighborhoods, Equinox (IG LINK @ equinoxhotels), is known for its luxe lifestyle offerings, fitness focused programming menus, and room designs. Plus, guests and members have access to a beautiful infinity pool overlooking Hudson Yards that's open through October, and a heated indoor pool open year round.

But you don't have to be a guest or fitness aficionado to enjoy Electric Lemon, their sprawling indoor-outdoor rooftop terrace and lounge on the hotel's 24th floor. As you step off the elevator, you immediately encounter well designed interiors and wall to wall windows that

display exquisite views of the Hudson river and its surrounding landscape, making it perfect for a sunset dinner with a view. But an alternate and equally impressive option is their outside terrace with a separate bar, dining tables, and beautiful sculpture, that offers a tranquil Hudson riverscape on one side, and Empire State Building/skyscraper views on the other.

"Besides our beautiful views, we have a new style seasonal American restaurant - we change our menu every season, and we use only the freshest ingredients; our wine list and our cocktail list changes as well, so you're always going to get a new experience every season that you come here," said Luba Smeleva, Lead Sommelier.

UNLISTED ROOFTOP AT UNTITLED HOTEL

3 Freeman Alley

New York does indeed have distinctive spaces for everyone and if you like art with your rooftop views then you'll definitely want to check out Untitled (link https://www.untitledat3freeman.com/ ), the recently opened boutique hotel located in the very colorful, historic, street art filled Freeman Alley on the Lower East Side. Untitled with its unique and modern urban vibe complete with an in-house gallery and tattoo parlor, is topped off by an 11th floor oasis called Unlisted. As with most New York neighborhoods, amusing surprises often await - especially when you look up - and Unlisted definitely delivers with some of the most sweeping unobstructed city views imaginable, indoors or out. You can also enjoy elevated snacks like wagyu hot dogs, and artfully crafted NY-centric cocktails with names like Central Park Martini and No Sleep Til.

PANORAMA ROOM

22 N. Loop Rd

For those who haven't ventured out to Roosevelt Island in a while - if ever - Panorama Room on the 18th floor of the Graduate Hotel (is a good reason to go. Opened in 2021, this uber-stylish rooftop bar and lounge lives up to its name and offers amazing 360° panoramic views, a modern & cosmopolitan vibe, and beautiful decor that will truly take your breath away.

This is a spot for real New York lovers with spectacular unobstructed views of Manhattan, Brooklyn, Bronx and Queens! My personal fav was the view of the Ed Koch/Queensboro Bridge which loomed so large and close; I often sit in a park on the other side of the bridge and seeing it from this perspective was really exciting.

Whether you're enjoying a negroni on the expansive terrace, or enjoying oysters in the interior lounge, Panorama Room's views combined with its ornate and plush furnishings, will provide a rooftop experience unlike any you've had before.

Harriet's Rooftop Courtesy of 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge

HARRIET'S AT 1 HOTEL BROOKLYN BRIDGE

60 Furman Street, Brooklyn

Sometimes the best views of Manhattan are frankly from Brooklyn, and one of the best places to lounge and look at the iconic city skyline, is from Harriet's all-season waterfront rooftop at 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge. Whether you're visiting from out of town or popping in for a staycation, you're sure to be entertained at this beautiful locale that not only overlooks the inimitable skyline that we can't get enough of, but boasts beautiful Brooklyn vistas as well.

The 1 Hotel brand is already well known for providing top tier hospitality and upscale getaways, and Harriet's breathtaking panoramas and vibe will certainly enhance the experience. You can enjoy sustainable cocktails, an elevated menu and a DJ on some nights. Sun-splashed pool perch views are also on deck - free to hotel guests, and available by day pass for others.

Why is Harriet's a rooftop destination worth traveling to even from Manhattan? " We have the best straight on view of Manhattan you'll find anywhere," said Brian in Hospitality. "We also have exclusive amenities and a beautiful, relaxing low key sustainably-focused venue that people enjoy."

WORLD-RENOWNED MASTER OF MEDITATION YOGMATA KEIKO AIKAWA WELCOMED WITH NEW YORK RECEPTION

Well-wishers gathered to meet First Female Siddha Master and Himalayan Great Saint ahead of Fall Darshan and Diksha Event

A reception was held at the home of Keiko Aoki in New York City to welcome Yogmata Keiko Aikawa, the First Female Siddha Master and Himalayan Great Saint who is holding a unique session where people can come and learn some of the Himalayan teachings and receive a special blessing from the Siddha master herself.

The World-Renowned Meditation Expert and Siddha Master Yogmata Keiko Aikawa will be holding a Darshan and Diksha in New York City this Fall. Attendees will have a rare opportunity to receive the special blessing and listen to her Himalayan teachings.

A Darshan is derived from the ancient language, Sanskrit meaning ‘auspicious viewing.’ It is an opportunity to meet and share the same space with a Master. Through the Master’s gaze – through their presence beside you, the physical touch of their hands, as well as direct and indirect shaktipat – a blessing occurs that facilitates your safe and swift transformation in this lifetime.

The Diksha is a spiritual initiation to receive supreme conscious energy through a Siddha Master. During this ceremony, Yogmata cleanses your negative karma, which will lead your life towards a better direction. Also, she transmits energy from the source of the universe, and bestows a mantra as part of her Himalayan Secret teachings.

Generally, one does not have the opportunity to meet, or even see, the Siddha Masters, in the Himalayas. So, receiving a Diksha in ordinary society is an opportunity that should not be missed. It is God’s gift.

During the forthcoming 79th Session of United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) opening in New York City this September, Yogumata Keiko Aikawa will lead a 90-second prayer for World peace at both the F4D’s 4th Annual Sustainable Goals Banquet on September 23rd and 12th Annual First Ladies Luncheon on September 24th, 2024. Yogumata Keiko Aikawa has worked with First Families from several countries, including Japan.

FLEEING FRANCE by

France, 1939: A talented singer, Ruth Lacroix has left Maine to live with her aunt and uncle, dreaming of performing at the Casino de Paris. But with the outbreak of war, and the heartbreaking news that her cousin has been killed by German forces, that goal is supplanted by another—to support France in any way she can.

Though Ruth has never driven a vehicle larger than the tractor on her parents’ farm, she joins a friend in enlisting as a driver for the French ambulance corps. On their way to transfer injured soldiers to Dunkirk for evacuation, they encounter Jimmie, a British Royal Air Force pilot with No. 73 Squadron RAF, who has bailed out of his burning plane. As Dunkirk falls, blocking off the route to the northern coast, word spreads of a daring Allied plan to rescue the remaining troops and civilians from ports in western France: code name Operation Aerial.

Over two hazardous weeks, Ruth and Jimmie will journey hundreds of miles together, helping other refugees as they rush to reach the sea before they are overtaken by the Germany army. But all their courage and resilience offer no certainty in wartime, when a single stroke of luck, or a split-second decision, can mean the difference between life and death...

Donna Russo's 'Vincent's Women' is the untold story of Vincent's loves: how they shaped his life, his art, and his death. It writes against the ‘myths,’ exploring the possibility that none of them are true. It is the only novel to bring into question his sexuality, how he lost his ear, who he lost it for, and how he might have died, all through the eyes of a woman. We learn of Her; we learn all of it through Her.

The story is guided by Johanna van Gogh Bonger, Vincent's sister-inlaw, as she decides to reveal the truth about Vincent to her son. We are then taken on a journey through Vincent's life, each section bringing a pivotal moment of Vincent's life alive while showing us the part she played in bringing it about. Between each woman, our guide, Johanna, gives us the transitional periods, right up to his death, which is now in question.

Hundreds of the nearly thousand letters between Vincent van Gogh and his brother Theo, now considered one of the greatest documents of the human experience, were used to help construct this novel, its narrative, and dialogue, especially the dialogue of Vincent himself.

Vincent van Gogh is one of the most well-known artists of all time. The world knows of his madness, traumas, and suicide. But what if all that we know isn’t true? What if this knowledge is based on rumors and nothing more? What if his true story is vastly different when based on factual material and forensic information? What if the truth of Vincent’s life—his madness and his genius—is defined by his never-ending search for love?

TRAUTEROSE: GROWING UP IN POSTWAR MUNICH by Elisabeth Haggblade

Trauterose: Growing Up in Postwar Munich is the compelling first-person account of Elisabeth Haggblade, who was orphaned at birth at the height of World War II and spent the first eleven years of her life under the care of a former S.S. officer and his family.

Like many she knew and met during her formative years, Elisabeth was marked both physically and psychologically by the traumatic events of the war and its aftermath, where negotiating daily life during the most tenuous time in Germany's history often felt like a balancing act. Yet through it all, faith and the help of others prevailed.

Trauterose is the account of one person's search for humanity in existencea cautionary tale on the inherited guilt created by rampant nationalism, and a painfully honest and often humorous view of the world through the eyes of a young woman who found her way to freedom and purpose.

Controversial filmmaker Jean Mercier is shooting a film on location in Sweden. While spending the summer creating his latest work of cinematic art, he lives in a nearby inn with his lead actors: Albie Hughes, British veteran of stage and screen; Charlotte Reed, British indie film queen; Michael Hennesey, American TV heartthrob; Willow Barnes, fallen former teen star looking to make a comeback; and Finn Forrester, legendary Hollywood movie star. Mercier invites his friend Ella Sinclair—a beautiful, bohemianspirited American philosopher known for her provocative writing—to stay with them for the summer. When Ella arrives, Finn is instantly enchanted by her, and soon they fall madly in love. Finn wants to plan a life together, but Ella harbors fears and convinces him to wait until the film wraps to decide their future. In a case of life imitating art, the film they are creating explores “the big questions” and prompts the stars to reflect on the crossroads they face in their own lives. How will their experiences on location affect them when they return home? The answers won’t come until months later, when the cast and crew reconvene on the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival—but their revelation will make for one unforgettable night.

NORTHERN LIGHT IN PROVENCE: A NOVEL by Elizabeth

Ilse Erlund is a translator who lives in a house on stilts along the west coast of Greenland. Isolated and restless in her world by the sea, she convinces her publisher to pay for a trip to the country she has never visited but whose language she speaks fluently: France. Her mission is to translate the verses of Geoffrey “Po” Labaye, a charismatic poet known as “the last living troubadour of Provence.”

Upon arrival in the medieval hilltop village of Belle Rivière, Ilse falls under the spell of the Provençal way of life, captivated by the air, the sun, the vibrant spring colors, and the dulcet sounds of the dialect. Soon enough, Ilse is captivated by the poet, too, and she and Po develop a daily rhythm and warm camaraderie— which is disrupted by the arrival of the poet’s son, Frey. Though he has a fiancée back in Paris, Frey turns his attentions to Ilse, and suddenly she is forced to learn another language, one her translation skills have not prepared her to decode. Where—and with whom—does her future lie?
