EDITOR’S NOTE
I
t’s hard to believe that summer is already starting to wind down, so soak up the rest of the season as best you can. If you’re looking to relax in Sag Harbor, stay at Baron’s Cove, our favorite no-so-secret anymore hideaway. The Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Atlantic City, which celebrated their one-year anniversary in June, is a sure bet if you’re looking for some fun at the Jersey Shore. Before reality sets in Within our pages you’ll find the season’s top equestrian events, from the country’s top polo matches in Greenwich to the Hampton Classic, where you can ride out the rest of the season in style. We also spoke with Panama’s most successful businessman, Sandro Salsano, commercial real estate ruler J. Scott Scheel, and the team behind New York’s most delicious destination, Bobby Van’s at 230 Park. If you like hearing from a straight-talking New Yorker, you’ll love Judge Jeanine Pirro, the Fox News Channel’s fiercest and most fashionable star who gives you her opinion like, well, a New Yorker! The judge, who doesn’t back down, candidly opens up about her journey to achieving success, the pitfalls of getting involved in politics, and her new upcoming book, Radicals, Resistance, and Revenge. Whatever your political views, Judge Jeanine, who backs up her statements with facts, never backs down from expressing her views with a political opponent. This just judge, who enjoys weighing in on the state of the country, as well as her strong support of the president, isn’t afraid to speak her mind, whether it’s on her show or behind-the-scenes. Whether the wind blows you to a Hamptons soiree or a secluded island, enjoy the rest of your summer. IG @allthefamenoneofthefortune

SUMMER IN THE CITY The Met, Halston, Best TV, Pride NYC, Race of Hope, Lincoln Center Diamond Jubilee Savanna Rooftop By R. Couri Hay with Photos by Patrick Mcmullan Halston & Couri It’s always scary to look at myself on the big screen; but there I was, throughout French film director Frédéric Tcheng gorgeously shot documentary of the designer, Halston. The interesting part is that he used vintage footage of me interviewing Halston and his hero/enemy and my mentor, the haute couturier Charles James, by the artist Anton Perich from the age of 19 to 2017. Watching myself age on camera is not my idea of a good time, but the film itself is an authentic – if surface – reflection of the man who I once called my lover. I’ll leave the story of my teenage affair with Halston for my memoir. I saw the film at the Southampton Arts Center where founding board member Simone Levinson and founder of New York Fashion Week Fern Mallis hosted a screening as part of their documentary Zoe Karvitz, Reese Witherspoon, Laura Dern & Nicole Kidman @ Big Little Lies
series. southamptonsartcenter. org Director Tcheng, knows his fashion history having also made “Dior and I” (2004) and “Diana Vreeland: The Eye Has to Travel.” (2011) I’m trying to convince Tcheng to do the life of Charles James to finish this trilogy as their lives were all so intertwined, but only time will tell. The film traces the rise and fall, via cocaine and AIDS, of Roy Halston Frowick and his career from farm boy to making Jackie Kennedy’s iconic pink pill box hat and fashion fame to his friendships with Andy Warhol, Liza Minnelli and me. If you like fashion’s bigger than life characters, you’ll enjoy this movie. With that said, I agree with Los Angeles Times reviewer, Kimber Myers “like Halston’s bias-cut designs, Tcheng’s documentary only skims the surface of his life, but boy, does it look great doing it.” Bravo!

ome of the most successful people in the world can attribute their meteoric rise to hard work, determination, and a razor focus of what they truly want in life. Hailing from Dover, Ohio, the beautiful Jennifer Lahmers had always dreamed of being a television journalist and started reporting in school when she was only eight years old. With model looks, and a compelling personality, this career path seemed naturally suited to Lahmers. Since matriculating from the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism at Ohio University, Lahmers first on air position was at the Fox affiliate in Hartford, CT which led to an anchor position at Fox 5’s “Good Day WakeUp” morning show in NYC. And now she is off to Hollywood where she will join the cast on “ExtraExtra” which premieres on September 9. Here Resident speaks to Lahmers about her exciting new move and what is next on the horizon. What are you looking forward to the most about moving to LA? As her current role airs at 4:30 a.m., she wakes up at 2 a.m. during the week and retires before the sun sets. “I’m looking forward to actually having a normal, functioning social life in Los Angeles and having fresh start in Los Angeles working alongside an extraordinary team of producers and talent. I can’t wait to be a part
of the cast that brings “ExtraExtra” to Fox with an exciting new look and format. Aside from that, I can’t wait to be that person who posts poolside Instagram pictures in the middle of November while my friends hate on me from the East Coast.” What will you miss the most about moving from NYC? “Working and living in New York City has been the privilege of my life. In the last five years not a day has gone by where I don’t feel thankful to be a part of the most special city in the world.” “I have had such a wonderful time cohosting “Good Day Wake Up.” My colleagues have become my family; and it has been such a blessing to learn and grow with the best in the business. We have leaned on each other in good times and bad and I know all of us will be friends for life. We have the most incredible and loyal viewers and I can’t thank them enough for letting us be a part of their morning routine every day.” While her fans will miss her in NYC, we are excited to see her in her glamorous new role on national television reporting on entertainment news, award shows, premieres, the red carpet and everything fab in the city of Angels.

FANCY MEETS FAMILY
Inside Korea’s Most Famous BBQ Restaurant By Hollie Mckay
I
t’s the kind of place that makes you feel as though you are stepping into a luxury land of culinary otherworldliness, while at the same time noshing at the dinner table with long-lost loved ones. Samwon Garden is the oldest and most famous Korean BBQ in Seoul, and now New Yorkers can step into the world steeped by tradition, a communal spirit, and famed succulent magic. “Samwon” – which translates to “three-in-one” – refers to the three essential cornerstones of fine dining: food, service, and ambiance and doesn’t disappoint in any category. In the heart of Manhattan’s Koreatown and boasting three floors and 180 seats comprised of cozy booths and private dining rooms, it’s the only certified authentic restaurant with exclusive legal rights to the “diamond cut,” making it the only real Korean BBQ across the country. The patented cut, which allows the flavors to really penetrate every slice of meat and enhance the texture of every bite, softens even the toughest cut. And indeed the most novice of KBBQ diners can spot the difference. The signature Samwon Galbi (marinated short rib), Mookeunji Samgyupsal (braised pork belly with fermented kimchi) and Yuk Hwe (Korean beef tartare) will leave you hankering for more no matter how full, topped off by age-old Korean favorites like the Gyeran Jjim (egg soufflé) and Naeng Myun (cold noodle). Each family-style table has a personalized grill and server, making each dining experience not only an unforgettable palatable delight with its vast menu of proteins and vegetables, but a trip to a faraway land.
Moreover, Samwon is easy on the eyes with a soft ambiance and a décor that endeavors to go against the grain of old meets new, comfort meets trendy, wood meets metal – somewhat symbolic of the importance of pairing old heritage and modernity. Similarly, the chefs aren’t afraid to give the traditional menu a modified Americana spin either. There are added items ranging from kimchi cheese fries and tuna poke to bacon mung pancakes and LA Galbi – marinated Los Angeles-style beef short ribs. Guests can pop in for a fast or long and lazy dining experience, which includes cuisines expertly coupled with wine, beer, and soju. And what’s more, it’s the epitome of the KBBQ craze taking the health industry by storm with its unique pickled offerings and side dishes – which offer beneficial bacteria for the digestive system – and lean proteins for clear skin, strong bones and weight loss. Think endless plates of Kimchi (fermented cabbage) widely known for being a probiotic. The attentive wait-staff is also quick to remind you that from ancient times, food and fire have been the hallmarks of bringing people together in times of turbulence and indifference. That is no less relevant today. Located at 37 West 32nd Street, between Fifth and Sixth Avenues, Samwon Garden is open every day at 11 am Sunday through Wednesday it closes at 2.30 am and Thursday until 4.30am, and Friday and Saturday until 5.30 am. Reservations are recommended, but walk-ins are accepted.

BOBBY VAN’S ON 230 PARK A Steakhouse Superstar By julie sagoskin Photographed By neil tandy Groomer: Angela Caroll for Angelo David Salon | Gamma+ Italia | The Flex Brush
L
ocated at 230 Park Avenue in the Helmsley Building next to Grand Central Station, the real center of the universe, this Bobby Van’s brings back the old-school steakhouse experience. After all, owner Ricky Passarelli, his brother/manager Lenny Passarelli, and his partners have a stake in ensuring you
have the best steakhouse experience of your life. They say it’s all about location, location, location, and it doesn’t get any better than the “The Original” Bobby Van’s flagship location, the city’s most delicious destination, which is now independently
owned and operated. The intimate bar area in this grandiose space even features an exact replica of the gargoyles you can find all around Grand Central Station. With a famous address and partners who hail from the city’s most famed steakhouses, Bobby Van’s is a steakhouse superstar.
dining
While he has already achieved succulent steakhouse success, Ricky Passarelli is taking his high-quality establishment to new heights with the addition of his new partners. “Al Serpagli and Patrick Brennan are steakhouse veterans,” explained Passarelli. “They have worked at the hottest steakhouses in the country, the Palm and Smith & Wollensky’s.” Al Serpagli, who is in love with Bobby Van’s lambchops, brings his extensive experience from running the front of the house at the original Palm Restaurant for almost 40 years. He also brings a large customer base, and he knows just what sets this steakhouse apart. “They buy the best food available on the

market. The steak, pork chops, chicken, fish—it’s all top-of-the-line, quality food. The meat, which is from the best purveyors, is aged from 21 to 35 days. It doesn’t get better than that. Our clientele and the type of business that this restaurant does is unique, and the location can’t be beat. Our clientele are beyond customers; they’re family, and it goes to the second, third and fourth generations. When they come here, they feel at home.” The talented team behind some of the restaurant’s most tantalizing dishes also includes Chef Robert Dickert, or ribeye royalty! Chef Dickert is, after all, the great-nephew of the legendary Peter Luger.
Since becoming part of the Bobby Van’s family in 1996, Dickert has made the restaurant even more delicious by providing unparalleled service and quality food. For a more laidback atmosphere, Lea Wine Bar, which the owners just opened right next door to Bobby Van’s, is the perfect place to unwind with a glass of wine after work or any time. At this relaxed space set amidst red walls, you can go from drinks to dinner, or even enjoy the full Bobby Van’s menu without leaving the bar. part of the Bobby Van’s family for over two decades, also features a vast collection of photographs depicting rock legends who are almost as legendary as the location they are hung in. With a striking floor-toceiling bar, the Bobby Van’s team is setting the bar high at Lea Wine Bar! In addition to classic Bobby Van’s specialties with a casual twist, they offer tasty tapas, sushi, creative cocktails and an extensive wine menu. Serpagli, who has been in the food industry all his life - he was born in Parma, Italy, which is all about food – is also excited about the recent grand opening of Lea Wine Bar. “It does take it down a notch as far as age. It caters to a big crowd, they have their own clientele, and it’s already been very successful. After 9/11, Wall Street came to Park Avenue. A lot of these people live in Westchester or are heading to the train station after work, and they come here and have a snack, or go to Bobby Van’s, and then go home. You can go to Lea and hang out with a couple

friends and have a sandwich or a couple beers. It’s the best food—the best.” With a strong commitment to service and of course, the city’s most succulent steaks, it’s not hard to see why everyone from Wall Street tycoons to star athletes can be found indulging in the fine fare at this New York institution. With high-quality meats, as well as their un-stuffy steakhouse environment, a business meeting at Bobby Van’s is one meeting you will really want to bite into. Their mouthwatering menu, which also features fresh seafood selections as well as pasta and wood-fired pizza, is executed by Executive Chef Craig Jermin, who makes sure each carefully crafted plate takes your taste buds on a culinary adventure, especially when topped with their bestselling Bobby Van’s sauce. Bobby Van’s, which has been serving up delectable dishes for half a century, has come a long way since opening their first location in Bridgehampton.
Restauranteur Ricky Passarelli, who purchased the Bridgehampton spot from Bobby Van, brought the steakhouse to Park Avenue over two decades ago and hasn’t looked back since! The partners, who each play a key part in ensuring their customers receive the best that Bobby Van’s has to offer, all have ties to some of the most illustrious and famed steakhouses in New York. Let’s just say these guys know their steakhouse stuff! Their customers, who are more like family, know they are going to be treated as such – some of their regular clientele even have their own caricatures prominently placed on the wall. With prime cuts served in a prime New York City location, Bobby Van’s “The Original” is unlike any other steakhouse. Their dry aging process of USDA prime quality beef, as well as their humidity-controlled room where their carefully-selected steaks are aged for up to 28 days, is what sets their steaks apart.

This Helmsley Building steakhouse hot spot also uses a local seafood supplier with a fleet of 30 fishing boats to ensure you always have plenty of palatable plates to choose from. “If you want to serve the best, you have to source and buy the best,” said Chef Nile Medford. Patrick Brennan, who worked with Ricky at Smith and Wollensky’s in the early 80s, is proud to be working with the steakhouse superstar once again, especially now that the two have a bit more experience under their belts. “The number of steakhouses in the city floats up and down, and it’s a tough sphere to compete in. 230 Park is a unique restaurant, and it’s always been on my radar. I thought opening Lea Wine Bar was a great way for them to expand into something more fun. You can’t beat the location, and I love the way Ricky is going with this spot. This Bobby Van’s is a beacon on a hill and has always stood out in the growing number of steakhouses. They use the best purveyors of meat, and before working here, I was a guest here, and it’s always been really good.” With friendly service and high-quality steak and seafood, when you come to Bobby Van’s or Lea Wine Bar on 230 Park, you’ll always find something to cheers to!

JEANINE PIRRO Keeping it Real with a Real New Yorker By julie sagoskin Photographed By UDO SPREITZENBARTH Produced by Hillary Latos Stylist: Lasalle - Steven Lasalle Hair: Angela Caroll for Angelo David Salon | Gamma+ Italia and Aysen Hurriyet | The Flex Brush Makeup: Zuleika Viera Photographer Assistant: Zara Kurba Shot on location at 66 Ninth Ave, Residence 6, NY NY
I
f you’ve watched her highly-rated show, Justice with Judge Jeanine on Fox News Channel, you already know that Judge Jeanine Pirro always states her fact-based opinions, especially in her sharp-witted opening statement. Whether you agree with her views or not, you can’t take away the fact that what you see is what you get – Judge Jeanine is always just Judge Jeanine! This just judge, who rules her network’s television ratings, knows how to reign in her guests and relate to her viewers. “When I’m talking to my viewers
they’ve got the best of me, the real me, no nonsense, no agenda other than to tell them what I believe in and what I think the truth is. I tried many felony cases when I was a litigator and I loved it and I did extremely well as an attorney. I always back up my opening statement with evidence. It’s as if I was in a courtroom and the guests are the witnesses.” Before achieving success as a television host and author, the persistent Pirro was pushing the boundaries to become the first female judge elected in Westchester County, and eventually the first female District
Attorney of Westchester County. She even became the first ever female president of the New York State District Attorneys Association. This personable and patriotic powerhouse explained that being able to realize her dreams is “a combination of living in a great country that rewards hard work, and realizing that to attain anything you have to work hard. That is what concerns me about the division of this country today. Socialism, with the wave of a wand, will create some kind of nirvana for everyone, when in reality it will really take away the reward of hard work. It will pretty much take

away all of your money for everyone else. Where would the motivation be, where would the joy of succeeding be? It would be nowhere in the world they’re promoting.” While she now loves to put her political views into perspective on television, Judge Jeanine also threw her hat into the political ring a few times herself, though she said she wouldn’t do it again. “I ran for office five times and politics is a blood sport, they take a pound every time, and I’m skinny enough! I love working for Fox and talking about what I talk about and have a platform for what I know.” She might not be running for office anytime soon, but Pirro is still making her political opinions known in her upcoming book entitled Radicals, Resistance and Revenge. From explaining how the left is trying to seek revenge for Hillary not winning to resisting the current administration and maintaining staunch anti-Trump stances, Judge Jeanine tackles the current climate, which she finds concerning. “It’s not just having America evolve to be a better nation, and we can be better, but they want to tear down the foundation of this country to where it’s unrecognizable and have a place where there is no competition, no individual liberty, no reward, no competitiveness, they just say take care of me.” This fierce and fabulously fashionable TV personality, who grew up in Elmira, New York, will talk to you like a real New Yorker who keeps it real! “When people tune into my show I think they know they’re gonna get it straight from a New Yorker who has the experience from being a prosecutor, a sitting district attorney, a superior court judge, a politician, an author and a mother. You can’t pull the wool over my eyes! Don’t lie to me, don’t tell me that something is day when it’s night. You’re going to get the truth from me the way I see it and it and I’m going to back it up with evidence.”
resident.com | 51

Judge Jeanine, a former attorney, author and host isn’t going anywhere anytime soon, and neither is Donald Trump, according to the judge, who believes that the president is most likely going to win a second term due to the booming economy, low unemployment ratings, growing opportunities for minorities and women, and safer conditions. “Americans are going to say, am I better off today than I was four years ago, and the truth is yes, we are safer. The president wiped out Isis in one, two, three. He reminds me of Indiana Jones when he takes out a machete. We have to eliminate people who hate us or kill us. When you look at where we are today, they say we’re working, we’re secure, the military is the strongest in the world. If you don’t like this country then you ought to rethink why you’re here, and that’s why I think it’s important for people to step back and forget about the name calling and the division, that’s about political correctness. Americans elected Trump because he was refreshing, and not politically correct. He’s a man saying what Americans are thinking.” This groundbreaking Renaissance woman always stands her ground, whether it’s on national television or in her everyday life. “Sometimes it is tough, you
52 | resident.com
get a lot of push back and as far as I’m concerned I know where my moral core is, where my compass is. My mother was my friend and my muse, and she just passed away and now more than ever I am in a position where I recognize the importance of going forward without fear or favor. I did it as a prosecutor and as a judge, and whenever I’m on Fox I’m not afraid of anybody, I just do what I think is right.” Pirro, a patriotic television personality is proud of all she has accomplished and what her country stands for. “I live in a great state, I work in midtown, and I thank G-d every day. For people to tear down this country, I find it shocking, and you almost start to realize that if people are so unhappy, if they are so mad here, you have to say, why are you here? If it’s so bad and if you want to make it better, have at it, I’m all for it, make it better, please, that’s what we’re here for. It’s a monumental thing to see judgment in men and women who never thought they had a chance in professional athletics to obtain the American dream and what America has to offer, a better life in the land of opportunity, and yet they kneel. You never want to war like my father or like all the men and women who want to protect the social liberties that we enjoy. I don’t get it but it’s the first amendment,
so be it, but my concern is that the left is attempting to take away our free speech. We see it when they say we’re not gonna listen because they don’t like what someone says, or beat people up and don’t have the courage to show their faces cause they’re such cowards. We have to fight for it, it’s on the chopping block.” After working non-stop at the network for the past two years, Judge Jeanine will be jetting off to Prague and Australia, where she is going to try to do a show before summer is over. With a fulfilling career and family – Judge Jeanine has a son and a daughter – she is ready to add a bit more fun to the mix and hopes to move to the city after selling her house in Westchester. “I want to enjoy my girlfriends, go out to dinner, see a play, catch a cab and do all the things New York City has to offer. It’s a tremendous place to be able to appreciate all the culture and the arts.” She might already have her own popular program, but things are just starting to heat up for this hardworking host, who has more projects on the horizon. If you want to know just what she’s thinking, tune in to hear the judge give you her just verdict on today’s hot topics.

SANDRO SALSANO Bullish in Business and Giving Back By julie sagoskin Photographed By jaime pavon Producer: Hillary Latos Groomer: Tania Guerra for Angelo David | CHANEL Beauty Shot on location at 242 Broome Street, PHB, NY NY | 242broomenyc.com

hether it’s looking forward in the business sector or giving back in a impactful way, Sandro Salsano, President of the Salsano Group and Chairman of the Salsano Family Office, is always setting the bar high – and surpassing it! Salsano, a self-made businessman, investor and philanthropist, might be successful in his many endeavors, but it is his family and family foundation which he sees as his biggest successes – after all, according to
Salsano, love is the most meaningful investment of all! As a teenager Sandro dreamed of becoming a professional basketball player in the NBA – he was Captain of the national team in Italy - but he is now one of the biggest players in the business world running the Salsano Group, a private conglomerate which invests in real estate, private equity and technology, and is also leading the way when it
comes to helping others realize their potential. Salsano’s mother was a teacher, so he and his wife, Johanna Shahani, who he lives with in Panama City, set up the Salsano Shahani Foundation in order to help improve the quality of education for kids in Central America. Salsano, whose own success has allowed him to help others find their path to success, explained that his nonprofit organization doesn’t take outside funds because he prefers to remain independent.

“I’m most proud when the kids call me tio, or uncle, and say, I want to be an engineer or I want to work in Europe or the US, and they really start to envision a future for themselves. A lot of people have talent and work very hard but they don’t have any opportunities. I left Italy to find my path and am a big believer that each of us has a talent. My sister who lives in Milan is a hero, she works with kids who have autism and she does it because she really wants to help other people. At first I set out wanting to change my parents life, but today I want to be able to give even more, help people and leave the world a better place - I think that’s my legacy. More than anything I hope people say hey, he was a good guy. I’ve had many failures, but I’ve also been very blessed in my life. My goal is really to try to share my blessings and do something for other people, especially in our region. Central America has lots of issues, so initiatives in the area are going to have a huge impact, changing many lives for the better.” Sandro, who has been a savior for many, has adapted successful foundations and projects in his area and supports many organizations including the Elton John AIDS Foundation, Milken Institute, & Global Teacher Prize. He and his wife are close friends with Crown Prince Haakon who is heir to the Norwegian throne with Sandro serving as the Chairman of Panama for the Royal’s Global Dignity organization. His vision is a world where compassion, understanding and love triumph whereby everyone deserves to live in societies that provide humane access to education, health, income, security & dignity. Sandro is also active as part of the Academy for the Global Teacher Prize started by the Varkey Foundation whose mission is to highlight the importance of educators by awarding the best teacher in the world a $1 million prize every year. “The goal is to create celebrities out of teachers – we had an event in New York and Leonardo Dicaprio wanted to take a picture with one of the professors! We are applying successful models in our region and are also narrowing our focus before doing everything. One project we did recently was with a local artist, and we took a group to Italy to see the Vatican and the Uffizi Gallery in Florence. It was the first time many of them had ever been on a plane, it was a big process and it really changed their lives.”

While he has struggled with his own setbacks, Salsano has always found a silver lining and come out stronger. After injuring his knee, this energetic entrepreneur enrolled in Bocconi University Milan and decided to study business. “I knew I wouldn’t be able to have a career in basketball after my surgery, so figuring out a new path was really the turning point for me and things really just came naturally,” explained Sandro. “I was in London where everyone was speaking multiple languages like me, and so I realized I really needed to find an edge. You just have to try things and fail. I always felt I was going to a place no one else would go as an investor and applied common sense. I never thought I was smarter than anybody else, I cannot predict the future, I just always felt I had nothing to lose. I thought, what’s the worst that can happen? If I fail, I’ll do something else.” Born in Lecco, Italy, this business leader and venture capitalist also studied at Harvard Business School, Princeton and Oxford University, and was recently named the Warren Buffett of Central America in Forbes due to his ability to consistently purchase assets at reasonable multiples with the IRR on his portfolio averaging over 35%. He also has a long term focus like Buffet and is willing to hold assets for 10 years before exiting. Salsano believes there are no short cuts to success and you cannot try to
82 | resident.com
get rich quick, but instead need to be diligent, disciplined, work hard and have patience and the results will come much like being a successful athlete whereby you work at perfecting your craft for years before hitting the big time. In addition to having been honored by the World Economic Forum as a Young Global Leader in 2014 where the selection committee is headed by Her Majesty Queen Rania of Jordan, Sandro sits on the board of various companies as both a shareholder and advisor, and is on the Steering Committee of the 1640 Society, one of the leading family office organizations with an annual Forum congregating global leaders in the Hamptons this year on August 12th. When it comes to pushing boundaries in business, this pioneering investor has always invested in people. From selling expensive wine to investing in venture capture and becoming wildly successful along the way, sometimes making fifty times his money, Sandro said that “in the end it’s all about the people you have around you, and I have great people, including my Board and my Chairwoman , Candice Beaumont. I try to apply common sense which is not so common. You can have a great deal but you need to be in with good people. We invest in people and we try not to harm anybody in business. You always find aggressive, malicious and arrogant people, and so my biggest luxury is having the
opportunity to decide whom I do business with. It is a personal relationship though, and so there are still challenges. For instance, you deal with the grandfather and then the son is not like his father, but I prefer it to working with bank or institutions. There is a level of trust with personal relationships, your interests are aligned. You can’t always get it right, but I try to stay away from toxic situations and dealing with certain people.” If you ask him which project he is most passionate about at the moment, Sandro has one word for you – Panama! Salsano currently has invested in industrial zoned land near the airport to capitalize on Panama’s strategic position as the gateway to Latin America, as well as growth in warehouses. This ingenious investor who believes in global trade and logistics explained that “e-commerce changed the world a few years ago. Panama is a very unique country, politically stable, with a $US economy, 6% annual average GDP growth, and is a key logistical hub with the Panama Canal linking the Atlantic & Pacific Oceans. Global sovereign wealth funds have been attracted to Panama, & China views it as a strategic asset too. The Chinese, who refer to Panama as the Singapore of the Caribbean, just opened a consulate and are looking to invest $30 billion in logistics. I invest a lot of money there, and it’s not because I live there, it’s because it’s a very unique country

cover
and because I believe in it.” Given Panama’s strategic location, Sandro believes that within the next ten years, Panama will benefit from many growth drivers becoming a more relevant & leading global economy. This angel investor who is indeed a guardian angel to those he helps through his family foundation, knows that family is more important than any fortune, and also realizes that his failures are what have inspired him to fight harder. “I had several successes that have been amazing, but many failures, so it’s never a straight line. The reality is you have to be right only once. If you go through many challenges, then the beauty of it is you always want to learn about something and there is a good chance you are going to be successful, persistence is the key. You need to work hard and be able to overcome certain situations and go through some bumps. To me success means having your family and your friends, and to be loved and respected. Especially in the city, everybody is insecure or has a big ego. For me, if you don’t treat people right, I cannot be your friend. I used to work in a restaurant and had many jobs, and I think you just have to be kind to people. I don’t believe in extremes, you should enjoy life, but it’s not good to spend more than what you have, it’s important to have balance.” The smartest and most successful people are the most simple and humble people, and that’s something I admire. For example Michael Milken is someone I have always admired who I also feel fortunate to have as a friend. He is constantly trying to help
84 | resident.com
other people and does much good for society with medical research, public health, education, capital markets & philanthropic initiatives such as the Prostate Cancer Foundation which Sandro recently began supporting too. Mike Milken is one of the rare people in the world that has made more than 100 other people into billionaires, and being in his inner circle or supporting his causes ends up enriching your life too. “My goal in the next 30 years of my life is to follow his footsteps, and not only enrich myself but everyone around me too, both personally with philanthropy as well as in business.” When it comes to new products such as CBD, Sandro explained that “with any market there is competition. There are players, there are followers and there are latecomers. Uber, which I have invested in, is doing fine, but you don’t want to be at the end of the cycle. When I see hype, I don’t like to be involved. I always tell my team that until we sell it, whatever it is, everything is on paper, it doesn’t mean much. When it comes to building a fortune, I believe in concentration, my father-in-law built everything inside Panama.” Sandro is always looking to expand his already extensive empire, and just invested with someone from Marvel who sold his company to Disney. The company, which is based in New York, has been developing content for the Disney channel and several media channels as well as video games which
are educational and intended to help kids fight bullies. “I was bullied myself when I was a kid, it wasn’t easy playing a sport and also studying,” explained Sandro, who overcame his bullying days to become known as someone who knows when to be bullish! While he invests in many companies as well as in social media, Sandro, who likes to decompress by spending time with his family, shuts off all social media at dinner and on the weekends, as long as it doesn’t pertain to business. “I deleted my Facebook account, a lot of it is fake. Phones are toys, we are not a toy. I like to spend time with those who are nicer than me, smarter than me, and people who give off good energy and who I can respect. You need to value your inner circle, and the key is to have good people around. You don’t want to have fake friends around you telling you just what you want to hear, it’s important to have honesty. I feel very blessed because even though I’ve had bad experiences, failures are a part of life and you need to go through disappointments.” Sandro is indeed a people person, both in his personal and professional life. Whether it’s partnering with Richard Branson or star athletes on social initiatives or closing a business deal, Sandro is always looking towards building a sustainable and successful future for both himself and others.

aria Benvenuti is the woman you want on speed dial when you are opening a new restaurant, need a re-brand or are just looking for an out-of-the-box branding idea. The founder of Benvenuti Public Relations has been immersed in the culinary landscape for 30 years, working with some of the most famous restaurants and brands throughout the world. With her keen eye for new talent and trends, she continues to stand out as one of the leading restaurant publicists in New York City.
for Bergdorf Goodman. From there, she went on to work as the events coordinator at the famous nightclub Area under renowned entrepreneur and hotelier Eric Goode, known for developing unparalleled properties like the Maritime Hotel, Bowery Hotel and BBar. Benvenuti became an invaluable asset when managing events for numerous celebrities, including Keith Richards, Patty Hansen, and Andy Warhol, as well as the inauguration of Strawberry Fields in Central Park with Yoko Ono and the launch of the Brooklyn Academy of Music.
Benvenuti maintains a strong pulse on the fashion world to this day, but she actually began her career journey working as the window display director for Fiorucci at the height of its fame and at Macy’s Herald Square in the Visual Display Department under Linda Fargo, now the VP of women’s fashion
Once she learned the ins and outs of the events world under mentor Goode, she set out on her own and started her own events company. During that time, she worked with clients such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the NYC Mayor’s Office of Film, Theater and Broadcasting as well as international

artists like Antonio Carlos Jobim at world-class venues including Carnegie Hall, Avery Fisher Hall and the Metropolitan Opera House. Using her background in event planning and her experience working within the arts and hospitality fields coordinating press and gala dinners for New York’s elite, Benvenuti has made her mark on the public relations industry for over three decades. “I saw a niche in the market to do public relations at a time when the restaurant industry was getting into a new era,” explained Benvenuti. When it comes to publicizing and marketing the world’s most famed restaurants and brands, Maria Benvenuti has been influential in changing the face – and taste – of the industry. She is a true pioneer of PR and is still doing what she does best: implementing
fact, we represent a 12,000-acre coffee farm in Brazil, where we host and organize an annual press trip for the coffee harvest. We also love to work with foreign companies and countries when they introduce their concepts to New York. My client ICHIRAN Ramen has 78 locations in Japan and most recently, we launched their third location in Times Square.” This trendsetter also explained that the latest food trend taking place in New York is the inclusion of more diverse cultures and their cuisines. “New York is already such a global city, and it’s becoming even more open to ethnic cuisines. The city is more relaxed about dining and appreciating casual fine dining, showcasing the foods of the world rather than being so regimented. We are shying away from just the high-end, untouchable establishments and are now more diverse in the way we see the world and relate to it, especially when it comes to dining,” said Maria. Over the years, Maria has introduced the foods of the world to New York City. From Filipino, African, Korean and Hawaiian to Peruvian, Brazilian and Belgian, Maria has helped launch every kind of cuisine in addition to popularizing many new products. Benvenuti’s clients have always been independent chefs and operators with their own points-of-view. These restaurants are the ones Benvenuti believes stand out amongst the rest and make for some of the best dining options in New York City. creative marketing concepts and getting her clients prime placements. Benvenuti has indeed made the New York City culinary scene much more mouthwatering and multicultural. This public relations powerhouse, who incorporates her sharp aesthetics into her campaigns, launched the Soho dining scene in the 90s with places like Felix and Boom, as well in Union Square with Republic and the Coffee Shop. She also made the Meatpacking District a mecca for trendy restaurants launching Markt, the first Belgian restaurant in NYC and one of the first in the Meatpacking District. She was instrumental in pioneering the South Beach dining scene, launching Bang, Cuban Café Manana and Pelican Hotel. She took on the West Village in mid-2000, turning it into one of the city’s most desirable dining neighborhoods with Commerce, Mole and Brunetti Pizza. She developed new dining destinations in NoMad, Flatiron and Hell’s Kitchen. “As the dining scene continues to evolve, so does our team’s strategic methods, developing cuttingedge story ideas for social media, marketing, viral
video content, traditional and digital media. The best part of my morning is meeting with my team to discuss how we can use impactful images and words to tell a story and to set trends.” Benvenuti’s impact on the global gastronomic stage started when she became one of the first people to host international guest chef appearances and brought world-renowned chef and restauranteur Nobu and Morimoto to Rio de Janeiro to collaborate with Sushi Brazil. She also worked with Guy Martin in Paris. STAN BHARTI
The Secret To Emerging Markets Investing By w. a. muller
A
s the founder of one of the world’s leading resource-focused private merchant banks, there are few minds as sharp as that of Stan Bharti. With extensive expertise in the agriculture, mining, telecommunications and technology spaces, Bharti has an impressive track record of identifying, acquiring and growing high-quality assets. Bharti founded Forbes & Manhattan 25 years ago after correctly identifying a huge opportunity in the mining and agriculture sector. Now, as the global population booms, he is preparing to capitalize on the next great global resource opportunity. Talking to Resident.com, Bharti claimed that “the challenge of the future is going to be mining and producing resources in an environmentally friendly way. We have years of experience identifying undervalued assets in emerging markets and turning them around - and the environmental aspect is now absolutely vital”.
88 | resident.com
It is this kind of foresight that has allowed Bharti to build Forbes & Manhattan into a powerhouse in the industry. The very first asset he bought was a gold and silver mine in Mexico. After putting a little money into it, he was able to turn it around and get it listed on the stock exchange. Laughing at the memory, Bharti quipped “that was where we started, and we are now the leading experts in asset acquisitions”. When pushed on the secret behind the success of Forbes & Manhattan, Bharti stressed that it was the technical and financial expertise of Forbes & Manhattan that allowed it to accurately value specific assets. “Our unique capability to realize emerging market trends and secure assets in these new markets, is our biggest strength,” explained Bharti. In particular, Bharti has identified two major trends in the resource space that he is excited about. First, he sees incredible potential in Brazil’s agriculture
market, claiming that “Ensuring food security in an environmentally friendly manner is quickly becoming a major market trend. Due to a scarcity of land in many more developed countries, Brazil may just be the perfect location...at exactly the right time.” In addition to agriculture, Bharti sees a tremendous opportunity in the emerging CBD oil market. Especially as it expands into Europe. “This sector is turning around, so it’s going to be about how to leverage this type of opportunity over the next five to ten years as emerging markets develop,” Bharti noted. With new trends emerging every day, Forbes & Manhattan has a track record that investors simply can’t afford to ignore. Stan Bharti truly is one of a kind when it comes to identifying assets, and it seems like he is on the brink of making another big move.

DJ LOGAN’S RUN A Killer Summer Through Music By COLLEEN GRADY
S
ummer is in full swing and nothing makes summer more fun like throwing a killer summer event for you, your friends and the neighborhood. The number one thing at any amazing summer event is the music. Become your own DJ with tips from an eclectic and spirited DJ whose style is contagious and craved! DJ Logan’s Run has made this easy for everyone by creating a top ten list of tips on throwing your killer summer event through music. Christopher Logan aka Logan’s Run was raised in Miami’s pulsating nightlife scene and presently lives in NYC. Always keeping the crowd on their toes and on the dance floor he focuses on the synergy between the music and his audience. He’s influenced by classic house, disco, soul, funk, and world music and merges the genres into his unique one of a kind sets. Top 10 Tips From DJ Logan’s Run on throwing a killer summer event through music 1. Create a custom playlist for your event. Now I know the idea of creating a playlist for your guests may seem like a daunting task. But relax, you got this!
92 | resident.com
2. I would recommend creating a playlist that is at least 3 hours long. That may sound like a hefty feat but don’t fret the minutes will add up quick! Have fun, and dig through your inner rolodex for an array of classics peppered with today’s hits and new releases.
and stray from including tracks that may change the pace of your event drastically.
3. Don’t be afraid to play covers of some of your favorite songs. This will add an element of surprise while entertaining your guests as they sing along. Two of my favorites are Travis’ cover of Brittany Spears “Hit Me Baby One More Time” and Dolly Parton’s cover of “Stairway to Heaven”.
8. Keep in mind the volume of the music. Is your intent to create a background vibe or do you wanna create a dance party?
4. If you feel overwhelmed by creating your own playlist, I would recommend heading over to Spotify. They have curated ones for almost any occasion. Stress free, now where did I put my mocktail? 5.Look into hiring a professional DJ for your event. They can create a custom mood throughout your party while you’re out entertaining your guests or grazing over the appetizers. 6. Think of the vibe you want to create for your event. Is it Poolside lounge, family backyard BBQ or perhaps a full on all night rager? Keep the groove going effortlessly by keeping your guests in mind
7. Be sure to play some classics, people love being able to sing along. Genre’s like Motown, 80’s Pop, Classic Rock, and Disco are a safe bet.
9. Live music always gets people’s attention. Inquire about perhaps hiring local musicians. Like a Classical harpists, a Jazz quartet, Spanish Guitarist, or even a cover band. 10. A good rule of thumb is a good ole’ 2 for 1. No I’m not talking about chips. I’m talking about songs. 2 songs people know and one they may not be familiar with. That’s a great way to introduce new music to your guests while keeping it rocking! He continually works with top brands across the spectrum like Mercedes Benz, NYLON, Red Bull, Lomography, and Lapalme Magazine spinning at their special events across the country. He has stepped in to create a list of the top ten songs for Resident Magazines Summer Playlist!

This potent procedure involves putting a needle underneath the face’s loose skin and putting it back behind the ears, where no one can see it. Besides being effective and making you look your best, there is no bruising or down time associated with this procedure. 2.The PRP facial / Vampire Facial This helps your body produce more collagen, erasing wrinkles and minimizing scars and eliminating acne. Part of the PRP facial is micro-needling, which by incorporating your own blood gives your skin a fuller and more youthful look. 3.Cool Sculpting This quick and successful treatment works best for people who are already slim but have little areas of fat, including on your lower abdomen and flanks that you can never get rid of no matter how you diet or hard you workout .The machine helps remove that fat and you can see the results as early as four weeks, with final results appearing after six months. 4.IV Vitamin Drips With CBD A new IV drip will include CBD. Dr Ali hasn’t incorporated CBD in his extremely popular drips yet, because he is still doing research and waiting further results to be sure that it would be safe and beneficial.

LAUREN JENAI Co-founder of CrossFit By Bennett Marcus
T
he fact that Lauren Jenai became a fitness industry mogul as a co-founder of CrossFit is ironic. “I was not in the fitness industry - or fit - when I got involved with my ex-husband and CrossFit,” says Lauren. A cosmetologist, cutting hair for a living and going to school at the time, she met Greg Glassman, her now ex-husband, at Gold’s Gym in Santa Cruz, CA. Glassman had developed a unique physical training method which he called CrossFit, and Lauren became his client. “I was an unfit person trying to become fit, and had tremendous results with his program, and became very passionate about it quickly,” she says. Needing help growing the business, Glassman asked if Lauren was interested in working with him, and she spent over twenty years developing CrossFit into the global industry that it is today, with locations in over 120 countries. Post CrossFit The couple split in 2013 after a messy, multi-year divorce, and Lauren sold her CrossFit shares for over $20 million. “That was traumatic for me.” No longer working at what she felt she was meant to
98 | resident.com
do, which is helping people, Lauren became depressed, and realized that she needed to do something. Feeling that CrossFit had diverged from its original mission into something more for elite athletes, she saw a niche for a fitness program tailored to a bigger demographic. “People who didn’t want to be elite athletes, who were intimidated by exercise, or with diabetes or pre-diabetes most of the people - were underserved.” Lauren spent a long time trying to determine why people don’t exercise, or find it intimidating. “I was that person at one point when I was younger and then, as I got out of CrossFit, I became that person again. I was struggling with being fit and healthy, so I was like, well here’s my purpose in life, let me build something for this other group of people.” Manifest App; simple fitness at home The result is Manifest, an app that she expects to launch in the fall after five years of research and testing. The program ties movement and diet to key health parameters like cholesterol and glucose levels. “If you see those improving over time, it’s
very motivating,” she says. The simple exercises can be done at home, with dumbbells or even with object like jugs filled with water. “The workouts relate to movements we do on a day-to-day basis, like lifting things overhead, sitting down and standing up, and you can do those things in your home with objects that might already be in your house.” “It’s not intimidating, and it puts exercise in a different perspective,” Lauren explains. “Because I am moving all the time, let’s just put some purpose to it.” Users are paired with a trained facilitator, communicating mainly via the app, who helps to guide you. “They’re not there to make you feel guilty for not doing it, but to troubleshoot with you, like, okay why didn’t you get some movement in today and how can we do it differently tomorrow?” Lauren says. “Having that person is very important to the process.” That accountability factor, along with the personal accountability of seeing the results of the lab tests, helps keeps you motivated. bemanifest.com

JEANNIE RALSTON #AgeBoldly By w. a. muller
T
wo years ago, when former NY magazine veteran Jeannie Ralston founded NextTribe, the online magazine for women over 45, all she knew was that she wanted to connect with other women like her. A new empty nester, Ralston was grappling with her sense of purpose and her desire to keep living intensely and in a highly engaged and connected way. After many hours of Googling, she never found that like-minded community she sought. “I felt like I had so much more life in me. Our generation is different from our mother’s generation where after our kids left we volunteered or retired. So many of us are well educated and have so much life and work experience. The idea that in my mid50’s the best years of my life were over, didn’t feel right,” Ralston says. “With my kids out of the house, I couldn’t wait to move on to my next series of adventures,” Ralston recalls. She found herself concerned about entering the job market after taking time off to raise her sons, despite having a vast amount of professional experience in the magazine industry, as an author,
102 | resident.com
and as an entrepreneur. Those skills, however, were perfect for starting Next Tribe. A former journalist and author, Ralston has published work in National Geographic, Life, The New York Times and Conde Nast Traveler and was a contributing editor at Allure, Ladies Home Journal and Parenting. A woman of many talents, she and her husband also founded the first commercial lavender farm in Texas, which became the subject of her memoir, The Unlikely Lavender Queen, published by Broadway Books in 2008. Ralston also published an e-book in 2014, The Mother of All Field Trips, which tells the story of the three years she and her husband traveled with their two sons who were homeschooled at the time. Using her vast array of connections as a veteran journalist, Ralston has brought together some of the most accomplished female journalists and authors to contribute informative, inspirational and irreverent articles to NextTribe about how to “Age Boldly.” Topics run the gamut from midlife dating and finances, makeup and menopause, to profiles of notable older women such as Jane Fonda, to activism, work, travel, family and so much more. Recently,
NextTribe expanded beyond a digital magazine with live Out Loud events all over the country that sell out and feature powerful female leaders. In 2020, she is expanding to 10 events, demand is so great for them. A recent event in New York was called “Screw Invisibility. Watch Older Women Change the World.” The inspired NextTribe community has formed sub-groups in Austin and San Antonio as a result, with plans to expand to New York, Los Angeles and Dallas in the coming year. In 2019, Ralston was named as one of Folio’s Top Women in Media for her entrepreneurial work with NextTribe. She also organized and participated in a panel discussion at SXSW 2019 where she shared her insight and expertise on the growth of female entrepreneurs at midlife and beyond. Ralston believes that women shouldn’t be held back by what society has for decades, generations, and centuries told them to be at midlife. Through NextTribe she wants to bring women in this age group together to make them feel empowered, heard and understood. “We are celebrating women over 45 because if we don’t do it, who will?” she says. nexttribe.com

RICHARD KIRSHENBAUM
Living the Life of the Rich and Famous – and Writing about It! By Julie Sagoskin
I
f you want to read about the lives of the rich and famous, Richard Kirshenbaum, who runs in the world of New York’s richest and most famous, has the salacious society scoop for you! From a column in The New York Observer to his riveting new read, Rouge, Richard brings you into his world while sharing his comical and perceptive perspective. After starting the successful advertising agency Kirshenbaum Bond + Partners, which revolutionized the industry with its iconic and creative campaigns for everyone from Coach to Credit Suisse, you might think Richard would be ready to sit back, relax and retire. Well, think again…and again! Formerly dubbed the “bad boy of the advertising business” for his bold and buzzworthy tactics, such as introducing highvisibility guerilla advertising, integrating pop-up stores and utilizing unique designs, Richard is more energized than ever with his new endeavors! From creating a new model for the advertising world to co-founding SWAT the agency and SWAT

Equity, a private equity fund that works with, builds and sometimes partners with entrepreneurial brands such as Wheels Up, Richard continues running the advertising realm while pursuing his passion for writing. “I love what I do, and I’m working harder than I’ve ever worked,” explained Richard. This edgy entrepreneur, who tried to earn a living as writer before becoming a master of marketing, is going back to his writing roots. “I was writing jokes for Joan Rivers making eight dollars a joke. One of my first bosses was Lois Korey, Woody Allen’s writing partner, and she went into the advertising business herself. I started as a receptionist writing for her, and she took an interest in me and my writing. I was lucky to have her as a mentor.” Richard has definitely acquired a database of deliciously juicy stories, which led him to write his wildly popular and controversial column in The New York Observer. “I was writing about life uptown with the one percent and always said I was a bridge from old money to
new money. I saw how people lived and brought some humor to that. This led to my novels and to my new novel, Rouge. Rouge is a homage to the woman who founded the first multi-billion dollar cosmetics industry. It should be celebrated, so I tried to bring a sense of what these women had to go through, and all the sacrifices they had to make.” This Long Island native, whose book is going to be turned into a movie by Sony Pictures, has indeed come a long way! Richard, who now lives in New York City, with his wife and three children, said, “If you’re going to live in New York, take advantage of it!” Richard, a passionate and persistent businessmen and brilliant writer, who has worked with everyone from Martha Stewart to Halle Berry, is already spending time creating characters for his latest book, which means you will soon have a new fun read to read!

Sited in the midst of 6.45 lushly landscaped acres, sits WaterStone Cottage. The home offers an open floor plan with a chef’s kitchen. The kitchen has high-end appliances and is flooded with natural light. The dining room is intimate and the adjacent living room looks out at the amazing grounds. This refreshingly designed home lends itself to both a traditional decor and a mid-century sensibility. The nucleus of this stunning property is the natural water falls that cascade directly in the front of the home creating both visual and auditory stimuli. Contiguous to the home is an elevated area that is designated as the pool location. The designation was defined by “Nature’s hand” as it is boarded by a wall of natural boulders. The large lap pool is both stylish and practical in its design and location. The pool house, with bath, is ideal for large scale entertaining or a convenient respite for lunch on a rainy day. This pool area is minimal, yet, sophisticated and timeless. WaterStone Cottage is a home that is more of a rare and unique “discovery” that diminishes the aesthetics of everything else in the area. $1,250,000

J. SCOTT SCHEEL Conquering Commercial Real Estate and Rebuilding Communities By julie sagoskin Photographed By UDO SPREITZENBARTH
F
rom becoming a self-made commercial real estate investor, to a sought-after international speaker and trainer, and a frequent contributor on Fox Business Varney & Co. advising on global finance and investing, to feature film producer, real estate developer & serial entrepreneur J. Scott Scheel has achieved staggering success and now strives to inspire others to achieve their dreams and impact communities. He is widely known as a “thought leader” in the Commercial Real Estate industry, who kicked open the doors and made investing accessible to the everyday man and woman. An obvious Type A self-starter, J. Scott still considers himself as an “everyday man” who got his own start in commercial real estate when he purchased one 24-unit multi-family apartment complex in a small Cleveland suburb almost a quarter century ago.
Since those humble beginnings, J Scott and his companies have gone on to invest in all 50 states with current activity in over 30. His career trajectory has afforded him the unique opportunity to invest and lead in all major CRE categories, including Class A Apartments, Boutique hospitality, Championship golf course development, Residential housing subdivision, Retail shopping centers, Outlet malls, Industrial-manufacturing facilities and his latest project, a State-of-the-Art Hospital and Assisted-living lifestyle development. J. Scott, who is also Founder and CEO of the Commercial Academy, which teaches others how to achieve their development goals and financial dreams, loves investing in his clients as much as in commercial real estate. The Commercial Academy has produced their own events for the past 17 years. “I started sharing my ideas and people were intrigued with
my strategies. They encouraged me to develop systems that support individuals from all walks of life wanting to achieve similar success.” J. Scott has sold millions of books, recordings and other products designed for people discovering paths to their own success. “We broke down many of our commercial real estate projects into actual living case studies, and developed programs and videos to explain the unique strategies we use ourselves. We created our own proprietary software, a complete Learning Management System and built a robust network which allows our clients to plug into a culture and environment that significantly advances their career aspirations. We cannot do it all on our own, which is why we are passionate about empowering others to use the models we have created to be successful in their own desired markets.”

living
As a true “American Dream Success Story”, J. Scott is especially proud of the diversity of his clients, who originate from 27 countries, and how many of them have gone on to attain life changing goals through his mentorship programs. More importantly, many have become his personal friends. “Commercial real estate investment was a ‘good old boys’ network for too many generations; we’re creating a network that is accessible and beneficial to all regardless of ethnicity, religion, prior education or previous career challenges.” In addition to hosting generalized events, the Commercial Academy also coordinates a premier mastermind group called the Diamond Inner Circle, which meets quarterly in boardroom sessions throughout the world. This private group allows its members to present detailed analysis on dozens of varied real estate investment opportunities for evaluation and possible collaboration. Often these projects become possible after these sessions, when they would not have been otherwise. “It’s so very humbling to receive so many success stories and testimonials from people that have been able to dramatically improve their lives from my teachings. It’s always a gift and a blessing to know I have impacted them and their families, sometimes for generations to come.” By empowering others and enabling them to tap into a unique networking environment in the commercial real estate sector, an industry where contacts aren’t readily shared, J. Scott has created his own community. He says that he has personally benefitted just as much as those who he brought together. “By sharing my passion, knowledge and ideas, I’ve received back a hundredfold beyond anything I’ve ever expected. I’ve been exposed to so many amazing people, projects and opportunities that simply would have never come my way had I taken a more conventional path. I want to continue to empower everyone I meet personally, as well as those whom I will never meet, but can impact through the principles we share, and developments that serve their communities. It’s all very fulfilling.” When his father became ill at a young age, J. Scott couldn’t grow up in the type of home he now shares with this wife, Christine, and their four young children Bianca Seraphina, 4, Angelina Renee, 3, J. Scott Jr., 1 and Theodore Edwin, 4 months. This is why he

remains full of gratitude and faith, and why he wants more than ever to give back to communities. “I love the community outreach that we do. A lot of the greatest value that we add is way beyond the actual real estate development. We share our strategies, help revitalize buildings and centers, and create new job opportunities. We help reestablish lost values and enthusiasm that have been frittered away over the years through mismanagement, by empowering people to take action with strategies that are best for these markets.” “A huge part of what we do is rebuilding communities, and we take a long view of how markets are currently, and how they’re likely to shift. Having been involved in both market expansion and extreme market contraction, we understand what needs to be done so communities are not crushed under the weight of all that can happen on either a macro economic or global basis. This experience allows us to make game-changing impacts in communities. When we come into a market, we know how to work with municipal government and provide infrastructure, and we understand that it’s ultimately about how to improve quality of life.” J. Scott’s visionary thinking has always allowed him to discover trending opportunities before most others. Over the last three years alone, he pivoted to defaulted Commercial Mortgage-Backed Securities assets, acquiring over 6 million square feet. He has also become highly creative in utilizing State & Municipal incentives, tax credits and federal opportunity zone programs to facilitate job creation and economic expansion. “We are branching out into new and challenging projects to expand our impact, opportunities and portfolio diversity. These new horizons include exploring a new project with over 12,000 acres of abandoned coal mines to eliminate waste management problems on the east coast, with new environmentally responsible trash management methodologies. Another exciting project involves one of the country’s

largest natural gas reserves with tens of thousands of acres of mineral rights and almost 50 miles of pipeline and rights of way. We want to responsibly solve problems in a manner that is environmentallyfriendly and won’t harm people or animals.”
provide. If it weren’t for my wife Christine and my kids, I don’t know where I’d be. They inspire me to be and do so much more. I want to leave a multigenerational legacy that reverberates well beyond my lifetime.”
As passionate as J. Scott is about his own investments and training others in commercial real estate investing, his goal in his youth was becoming a film producer. He continues to direct, write and star in films which convey meaningful messages, including a film which he just distributed through Sony Pictures Entertainment throughout 6 continents. This multi-talented real estate titan, who says he didn’t want to wind up as a starving artist, admits that “the initial reason I went into real estate was to finance a film career” and he now can do just that. J. Scott, who also wants to change lives with the messaging in his films, is very enthusiastic about an upcoming film project currently in pre-production, which profiles an underappreciated historical African-American motivational speaker.
Displaying natural poise and charisma on stage, J. Scott has shared stages with world business and economic leaders like former Federal Reserve Chairmen Alan Greenspan and Ben Bernanke, U.S. Presidents Trump, Bush and Clinton, and billionaires such as Musk, Branson, Balmer and Buffet He considers it a privilege to have spoken to millions of people over the years, educating, entertaining and inspiring them. Through speaking at events worldwide, from economic forums to personal empowerment conferences, J. Scott inspires others to realize their full potential. He is looking forward to the upcoming Real Estate Wealth Expo in New York/New Jersey. Over 15,000 people are expected at the Expo, on August 17-18, when he will speak alongside other self-made millionaires and megastars, including Tony Robbins, Grant Cardone, Robert Herjavec, music icon Pitbull, and others.
As he has done with his films – and his commercial real estate endeavors – J. Scott aims to illustrate that if you treat people with dignity and respect, it will come back to you ten-fold. He is exemplifying this with his new hospital project, and his recent donation of one of his buildings as a police station to enhance an area’s safety and economic development. He always keeps it real and credits his wife and the birth of his children for grounding him and reminding him why he wants to strive for more, despite already achieving unparalleled success. “When I turned 50 a couple years ago, I found myself in a position where I was questioning what I wanted for my future. We just had our second child and I already accomplished much more than I ever would need. My family caused me to take a longer view on what I was doing. I can understand how people may really struggle with the second and third acts of life. There needs to be more positive voices out there in the business world and in life. That’s what we continuously double down on and strive to
J. Scott Scheel, a self-educated entrepreneur, is a two-time Congressional Businessman of the Year, as recognized by the Wall Street Journal. Over the last 17 years, he has spoken to millions, trained hundreds of thousands, and served tens of thousands of clients. “As diverse as this all may seem, it all works because each of the structural beams of this enterprise fit together as the foundation for one cohesive strategy,” explained J. Scott. And with this foundation, everything he is accomplishing today, and his well-planned vision for the future, he feels he’s just getting started. Yet he hasn’t lost sight of where he started from and the reasons why he continues to work as hard as he does. As a Role Model for Possibility, he knows that his own life validates the motto that he has proclaimed for nearly two decades: “It only takes one deal, one time to change your life forever.TM”
