EDITOR’S NOTE

With travel restrictions lifting in time for summer, we can’t wait to get back to traveling the world to create new memories and reconnect with our wanderlust dreams. The lazy days of summer and basking in the sun are also something to look forward to. For our cover story this month, we featured the Scotto Sisters who embody the resilient spirit of New Yorkers. For over two decades, millions of New Yorkers have started their day with Rosanna Scotto’s morning talk show, Good Day New York. The Scotto family is one of NYC’s most famous and beloved families who created the iconic New York institution, Fresco by Scotto, 29 years ago which became a destination for the power players of New York. Resident spoke to the dynamic Scotto Sisters on how they have remained on top of their game and

12 | resident.com

how they have reinvented themselves to appeal to the next generation of power players. This season, one of the hottest beauty trends was inspired by the 90s with pops of bright neon color which was the inspiration for Neon Beauty, captured by our talented photographer Charles Barnes. With summer travel underway, we curated a guide to The Hampton’s hottest events, dining destinations and hotels, for an insider’s perspective. Our wanderlust spirit brought us to the exotic landscape of Panama and the laid back beachy vibes of Ft. Lauderdale.

including the launch of the Sports Illustrated 2022 Swimsuit Issue, Miami Fashion Week, and the Fashion Group International’s Rising Star Awards. As life begins to return to normal and we head to celebrate Independence Day, we should take a moment to reflect on what we are celebrating. Coming out of a dark period of lockdowns, we have a new perspective on what personal freedom, liberties, and independence are all about, which is definitely not something to ever take for granted.

Noel Paul Stookey

A MAN WHO HAS LEARNED TO TRUST HIS HEART It would be impossible to write this article without admitting that I have always been a huge fan of Peter, Paul, and Mary, now a superfan of Noel Paul Stookey, the “Paul” of the above-mentioned iconic folk trio. Funny, thoughtful, passionate, and compassionate, Stookey is so much more than a point of reference in a musical trio. In a “pull up your guitar and let’s make some music together” discussion, Stookey spoke with an unapologetic joy for living and the belief that love, music, Star Trek, and an occasional bowl of ice cream allows us to collectively find our way back to a place of peace, respect, and laughter. Joshua Estrin: At 84 years young, you’ve reached a point in your life and career where you could choose to just take it easy. Why a new album? Noel Paul Stookey: I’ve been writing, performing, eating breathing, living, and more than sporadically humming music my entire life. Therefore, for me, it is not why am I doing another album but rather when and what is my next project now that “Fazz: Now & Then” is competed. JE: You have been called a “socially responsible” artist. What does that mean to you? NPS: Folk music has always been about awareness as well entertainment. Beyond that obvious truth, it has a higher purpose. It speaks to our humanity, our connection to one another, politics, respect, hopes, and fears. It is an anthem of hope and a hymn that represents a declaration of endless possibilities JE: Your politically charged YouTube video “Impeachable” has gone viral. What role do you believe social media plays in the music industry?

22 | resident.com

NPS: I respect the role social media plays in our lives. I can’t ignore it and I am not trying to. Still, it is only a platform, a digital space and place. With that being said, I encourage everyone to point and click responsibly and use any and all of the platforms to share light and love.

cautioned that one does not use a Major 7th while playing a Woody Guthrie tune. But still, every song is not a sing-along, and every melody deserves its own place in the sun.

JE: Tell me more about your latest project, “Fazz: Now & Then”.

NPS: I am a classical music nerd and a jazz nerd so those are always on my playlist. You will probably find some Sting and The Police.

NPS: “Fazz: Now & Then” is a fusion of styles characterized by musical subtlety, improvisation, syncopation, and often a regular or forceful rhythm. While brass, woodwind instruments, and piano are often associated with jazz, the guitar and other stringed instruments are often found in support of those pieces containing a more lyrical or reflective content. I’m a great believer in ‘alternative’ chords...color chords they’re sometimes called. If you have an ear for musical nuance, you can readily hear the difference between an A Major chord and its smoky mysterious cousin, the A Major 7th. I’ll admit the application of these chordal variations should be judicious, as they may not always be appropriate to the task. Case in point: tuning backstage with Peter Yarrow and being

JE: What it is on your playlist right now?

JE: What are your top three guilty pleasures? NPS: Ice cream, afternoon naps, and all things high-tech. JE: What is the best piece of advice you have ever been given? NPS: To trust your heart. Inside the Mind of Visionary South Florida Real Estate Mogul

GIL DEZER By Mosaka Williamson

Gil Dezer, the president of Dezer Development, has an impressive bio with credits that boast the fact that he is one of the youngest developers of luxury high-rise residential and condo-hotel properties in the United States. He has been a driving force behind shaping the value of the South Florida real estate industry through the introduction of brand partnerships and licensing agreements. His collaborations have included working with the Germany-based Porsche Design Group to expand the luxury automobile’s reach into the residential real estate market. He has also worked with real estate mogul, and former president, Donald Trump to lead the Trump Organization’s first venture into South Florida’s real estate market. Innovative and visionary have been some of the words to describe Dezer’s career thus far, but who is the real Gil Dezer? Resident Magazine sat down with the real estate visionary to dig deeper and gain insight into the mind of the real estate mogul. Resident: Tell us more about your recent collaboration with Related Group and how you were able to negotiate your current project. G. Dezer: All these deals have their own stories of where they come from. We have a partnership, and we help them out tremendously. Now we are in Hillsboro, I was going for 25 stories and Hillsboro didn’t want it, so I got 10 stories. We were allowed 3 [stories] initially but I came to them and shocked them. I was hoping to get to 15 or 20 but they were not budging. So I spent a few years on it and I had to keep going. I bought that property in 3 days. It is 6 acres on the ocean and 6 acres on the Intercostal, it is one of the best pieces of land in all South Florida. I saw it online

24 | resident.com

on Google Earth and I said, I’m buying it. We didn’t do any due diligence on it, I knew I was getting a good price on it. We shot first and asked questions later. That’s where our ability comes in; most people don’t do that, nobody does that. Nobody shuts up and steps up to the plate. Everyone wants to understand What’s involved? What Zoning was it? I bought it, it took us 2 and a half years of negotiating with the city and finally we got something.

Resident: Would you say that being successful means that you don’t have to sit around and wait? G. Dezer: There are all these real estate experts who say that if it doesn’t dot all of the I’s, cross all of the T’s, or fit into a box, I can’t do it. Resident: Would you say that’s what makes you different? The fact that you work on adrenaline or energy?

G. Dezer: Well…I saw it, I bought it for $30 million dollars. It’s 12 acres, it’s on the ocean. That’s 2 and a half million dollars an acre on the ocean, stop. How much are you really going to think about it? Resident: What are the current prices of the properties on the ocean? G. Dezer: It’s 50 to 60 million dollars an acre for properties on the ocean because they are allowed to have high rises. If they allowed high rises [on the Hillsboro project] I would have created value on the land, you know. That $30 million I paid would have been $100 million. Resident: Does Hillsboro have the land around it that gives you the ability to build high rises? G. Dezer: No, that’s it. You have to start buying out condos here. They are all little condos out there and you have to buy them one by one. That’s the only way to [be able to build high rises]. Resident: Are you developing properties anywhere else? We know that Sunny Isles has been your baby. That’s where so many of your properties are located. They are obviously awesome. G. Dezer: I have the Intracoastal Mall which is going to be enormous in and of itself. We are redesigning the whole thing and moving all of the tenants into the first phase of the project. We are digging out a canal, you are going to go on your boat to go to restaurants on the waterfront. We will have townhouses…it’s like we’re building a whole city. We are doing this as fast as possible. Resident: What about a boardwalk? Has that been discussed? G. Dezer: Of course it has, yeah. I was actually the one who shot it down. Resident: Really? Why?

Bentley Residences is a 749-foot, 216-unit tower planned for 18401 Collins Avenue. It will mark the first Bentley-branded residential building in the world. The property has more than 60 stories and follows Dezer’s 2016 delivery of Porsche Design Tower. Bentley Residences will sit on a 3.6-acre property and will be designed by Sieger Suarez Architects. The property will feature a gym, pool, spa, theater, bar, restaurant and lounge, cabanas and landscaped gardens. More here: https://bentleyresidencesmiami.com

G. Dezer: There is a sea turtle ordinance and the sea turtles don’t allow you to have lights on the beach. If you do a boardwalk without lights it becomes a homeless issue. And then you have to require bathrooms which people move in. It’s a problem, boardwalks are ideally great but if you are going to open them to the public you can’t keep people out. That’s why I said no way, shut it down. If we were going to do one, we would do a

resident.com | 25

crushed shell boardwalk, not one made of boards, as long as there are no lights. Imagine a park in New York City without light, what do you think is going to happen? We tore down a piece of property on the beach and we had homeless issues every single day. Resident: Tell us about the Bentley Residences in Sunny Isles. G. Dezer: I started this and people are copying me. The problem is people aren’t copying me properly, they are just putting a name on the building, like Aston Martin. We are doing so many different things that our brand identified with Bentley. The glass for starters had to pass hurricane codes, so we built a mockup of this glass because we had to throw stuff at it, test it, and all of that fun stuff. The glass facets in and out and it really gives a diamond look without being cheesy. Nobody else could do this. I told the guy that I am paying for product approval which means that I won the design, I don’t want to see this anywhere else in Miami or anywhere in the world for that matter. You will never see this glass in another building, that’s just one thing. Resident: Tell us about the Bentely’s first-of-its-kind automobile elevator lift system – the Dezervator which allows owners to park their vehicles in ‘sky garages’ directly next to their units.

26 | resident.com

G. Dezer: The way you drive into the building is very different. We have some celebrities; we have some serious people in that building and we have to protect them. The car elevators are outside the lobby, you drive up around the car elevators, and you drive underneath the tower. The building is sitting on top of you so there is no sharing and you are in a climatized space, that’s another game changer. Resident: It’s obviously similar to Porsche. G. Dezer: It’s similar but different. Another thing we are doing is Florida Rooms, an indoor-outdoormspace. Lastly, the killer on this project is the floor

plan. The floor plans of the units themselves are the best floor plans you have ever seen. Every single apartment allows you to walk out onto your balcony and have a view of the pool and the ocean in one shot. In the living space you have a 2,000 square foot living room. I’m putting warming on the floor because the marble is cold and we have a warming drawer for towels. If you want to enjoy nature, you open up the door and go to an outdoor shower. Resident: You’re creating a home. G. Dezer: It’s a home in the sky with a four car garage on every single level.

Resident: So the starting price is $4 million? G. Dezer: The majority of the units on the west side are between $4 and $5 million, and the majority of the homes on the east side are between $5 and $ 7 million. The units on the ocean side are 6,000 square feet and the units on the backside are 5,200 square feet. Resident: Who are your competitors? G. Dezer: We’re all competing for the buyer in the five to $7 million price point. But there’s nothing like this. My competitors next door at Acqualina has a 45 minute wait to get your car, so that’s exactly why people want to be able to call an elevator, go down in their car and not sit there waiting. That’s why you can’t compete. Anybody who’s ever lived in a high rise building before, that’s my customer, because they understand the headaches that happen in these typical buildings and we don’t have that. They understand that with COVID the swimming pool in the building was shut down. Resident: Have you reached out to any other brands? G. Dezer: I’ve spoken to every single brand, you can’t mention one that I haven’t spoken to. They each have their own motivations with their own goals. The brand has to match the buyer. For instance, Ferrari is an aspirational brand. It’s one of the top five brands in the world next to Coca Cola and Apple, but it’s an aspirational brand meaning the guy who buys a Ferrari shirt at the store and Aventura mall doesn’t own the car.

He aspires to be a Formula One racecar driver. Although the car itself is cool and sick and beautiful, the brand itself doesn’t like to go deep down into where Bentley is. Bentley is old money, old school. My father’s father had a Bentley. We’re not looking for that new crypto guy who just made five bucks yesterday on NFT’s. We get to that everyday millionaire, but we have some billionaire status up there in the building. For a lot of people this is their second home, third home, fifth home. And there are a lot of New Yorkers. What happened during the pandemic was crazy. Everybody came down, started renting. They’re paying upwards of $40,000 or $50,000 a month for these units. And 11 of the 30 renters turned into buyers last year which was good for us. When you do it right everyone is happy. We have the happiest group of people in the building. We did a great job.

Resident: What does the future look like? G. Dezer: We’re building rentals right now in Orlando, and we have around 375 units. My father is doing something in Ft. Meyers. Resident: Let me ask you a personal question. Is there a lady in your life? G. Dezer: I have a new girlfriend as of two to three months. Resident: What are some of your favorite restaurants in the Miami area? G. Dezer: Carbone. Resident: Are there any hobbies that you have gotten into? G. Dezer: Boating. During the pandemic I was working from home on the boat. I took my big boat out. We were gone for eight weeks. I went all around up the East Coast and went up the west coast of Florida just because there was a lockdown at home. Resident: What about travel? G. Dezer: I was in Ibiza In August, and was just in Maldives for New Year’s with the girlfriend. Resident: Tell us more about tech. G. Dezer: The entire building is run by an app. You want to get your car an app sends you a countdown to your car. I actually started my own app company and we started an app for hotel services.

THE QUINTESSENTIAL NEW YORKERS

ROSANNA AND ELAINA SCOTTO By Hillary Latos Photography by Neil Tandy As born and bred New Yorkers, Rosanna and Elaina Scotto have a colorful and storied history that makes up the fabric NYC born to parents with had powerful mobster family ties and were highly influential in shaping the city to what it is today. Since their opening 29 years ago, Fresco by Scottos remains a beloved New York institution with a loyal following spanning a cross section of power players in business, fashion, politics and media. As the anchor for Fox’s Good Day New York, Rosanna Scotto greets millions of New Yorkers every morning with her candid and infectious energy that when offscreen she channels into her family’s popular restaurant, Fresco by Scotto’s. Resident speaks to the Scotto sisters who, along with their mother Marion, have rebranded, revitalized, and relaunched Fresco by Scotto’s to become Midtown’s latest dining and dancing destination.

28 | resident.com

Tell us a bit about the history and evolution of Scotto’s. ES: We opened 29 years ago, and we were very fortunate to have success very early on. From the moment we opened our doors we were the home of fashionistas, politicians, and TV personalities, though there were a lot of ups and downs over that time. When COVID hit our restaurant shuttered, and to pull the plug and close up is detrimental to any running business, and we weren’t sure if we were going to reopen. Long story short, we received a lot of grants, repositioned our company as we are a 100% women owned business. We renovated the interior, and reimagined, reinvented and recreated an entirely new business. We went from being a very serious restaurant without any music where businesspeople came, to now this happy, joyful, dinner

entertainment destination. We have DJs Thursday, Friday and Saturday night. We encourage people to get up and dance wherever they feel. It’s like walking into a giant party. We hired Larry Scott, event planner to the stars, and he’s recreated one of our favorite places in Capri with a modern twist. RS: We have an Instagram page for Fresco by Scotto and we have one for Scotto Sisters, In the beginning, I was posting a lot of food pictures, and we were getting a lot of response. When we started posting pictures of the partying, the dancing in the streets and the celebrities that came, we were getting an overwhelming response. People want to have fun now. They’ve been locked down for two years. We heard the call

resident.com | 29

30 | resident.com

and we’re bringing it to our customers Tuesday through Saturday. Our outside area is magnificent, like you’ve gone to Europe without a passport. When did you launch your line on QVC? ES: When we were shuttered we did not think we were reopening, and Rosanna and I thought to create a frozen food line. We wanted to keep ourselves busy, and occupy our mother who had been working 12 hours a day with suddenly nothing to do. Our food line consists of meatballs, lasagna, and two different types of cheesecake. And when the restaurant reopened to a huge success, QVC called and said they were ready to go on air. We go live from our restaurant to sell our products to anyone in the country. The food is delicious. We would never sell something that wasn’t up to our standards, and we have very high standards. What are your favorite items on the menu?

ES: Our pizzas are one of the staples from Fresco by Scotto along with our zucchini chips smothered with gorgonzola. It is so addicting. We haven’t figured out how to package that yet, but we are working on it. We would never want to sell it unless it was completely the way you get it at our restaurant. What do you love most about being a New Yorker? RS: We are very realistic about surviving in this town. It’s different than it was two or three years ago, and we’ve completely changed and adapted. When people come into our restaurant, they know they’re safe and they’re ready to have delicious food and party. The fact that we aren’t just any New Yorkers, people want to come here to see the Scotto family. I don’t do the workings like Elaina and mom do, I’m more of the schmoozer. When I go in for dinner, I spend over an hour just going around to tables, taking pictures and welcoming everybody. Do you think your recipe for success can be attributed to each person bringing a different strength to the table?

RS: Absolutely, we all we all play a different role without stepping on each other’s toes, and we work together as a team to come up with different ideas. As soon as we’re comfortable with something, we are onto the next idea. People come in to celebrate and now we have a celebratory light show where everything stops in the restaurant and all the staff comes over with giant sparklers and desserts, which turns into a major celebration. This has become our signature and it’s a lot of fun. I think the success of the restaurant is to have Instagram worthy items on your menu. We have a huge cannoli for 10 people and everybody loves it because it’s so big and you need a hammer to break it down and go to town on it. Instagram plays a big part in selling the restaurant and getting people in the door. And then when they get there, they are so happy because it lives up to the reputation. Can you tell us about your Scotto Sisters show and how that plays into the restaurant? RS: We started Scotto Sisters informally before COVID. During COVID Elaina

resident.com | 31

TRAVEL | RESIDENT and mom were basically out of work, and we were all on our own and apart, when we were so used to seeing one another. Our viewership has grown to thousands of people who watch our show just about every day. We produce our show Monday through Thursday at 4:30 pm and we have guests on the show live or via zoom and it’s really become quite a little show on its own. We have been approached by companies interested in sponsoring, but we haven’t gone that route yet because we want it to be authentic. Our original intent was to keep us engaged and distract us, and really to comfort us while finding strength and supporting one another to get through this very horrible time. We even call our viewers the Scotto Sisters and we get to meet them in person when they come into the restaurant. In fact, we’ve taken our Scotto Sisters schmoozing to the New York Wine and Food Festival last year we did a Scotto schmoozing lunch that was sold out. It was so much fun that the organizers of New York City Wine and Food Festival have asked us to do it again this year. What are your some of your favorite dishes? RS: Our chef is Ben Cachuma who is young, energetic, fabulous, and so talented. We change the menu at least twice a year. From our summer menu, I love the watermelon salad and the burrata which changes every season. He has such a knack. He also makes a pasta primavera with a touch of cream and bit of lemon zest called Larry’s Lemon Cream named after Larry Scott. On the healthier side I love the salmon, branzino and the Dover sole. We eat there for lunch and dinner every single day and never tire of the menu. Our steak is also an unsung hero at the restaurant. Diners go to steak houses because they love a great juicy piece of meat and our steak is fabulous. The chef also does a boiled meat special every night. Our chicken parmesan is perfectly pounded with a perfect amount of bread crumbs topped with homemade tomato sauce. ES: Our pizza and signature zucchini chips are a must, but I can’t have that alone because I will eat the whole bowl and then I’ll be mad at myself. They are highly addictive and delicious and have been on the menu for over 20 years. Do you have any summer travel plans?

32 | resident.com

RS: I will be out East in the Hamptons over the summer staying close to home this year, and will entertain at home with small dinner parties. Elaina is going to Greece while taking notes and observing the party theme to bring our place to new levels in the fall. Rosanna, what has been the most inspiring story that you covered on Good Day New York? RS: There have been so many of them. I think everybody has bounced back. It’s been a tough time, whether you’re going to school or have a business in New York City. What I love to see is New Yorkers coming together, supporting one another, and helping each other get back on their feet. I call this a Corona coaster, some days you’re feeling that this is great and we’re going to get through it. Then other days, you’re feeling very low. That’s when you need your support from fellow New Yorkers to say we’re going to get through this and it’s going to be okay. How do you envision the future of Fresco by Scottos? RS: Our restaurant has been around 29 years. Before COVID, our clientele had aged, gracefully, but they were quite older. When we reinvented Fresco by Scottos with the music and dancing,

not all of them came back. We needed to reinvent, because not everyone is working in Midtown and now the workforce in the office is only 8% full time. We are in a very quiet Midtown Manhattan location and we had to give people a reason to travel to Midtown. We lost a few even though a lot of them come in for lunch. For dinner we have a much younger clientele. I think the dancing will get a lot of people over there. I feel like where else can you go to have a great meal, dance in the street and still be washed and in bed by 11 o’clock? After COVID when people first started coming out, reservations were picking up at five and six o’clock. Before that it was always a seven or eight o’clock dinner. People got used to being home and eating normally. But now reservations start at five and they go till 9 pm. Also for lunch, 12:30 used to be the hot spot, but now it’s 12 noon, with 200 diners at that time. New Yorkers mindsets have changed a bit, but it’s probably a healthier option now. We also opened our Fresco on the Go, which is fast casual by day, and turns into a private banquet space at night. We also opened an outdoor Cabana, where people could hold private events for up to 24 people because everyone wants to do a private party and not necessarily indoors these days.

PANAMA

SOUTH AMERICA’S MELTING POT By Jayger McGough Quiz Time, get ready! What is the origin of Panama’s name? Here comes a bit of history. The country for many generations has had an abundance of fish. Seeing this abundance, the inidignous tribes felt it fitting to name their country Panama. Which in their language signifies abundance of fish. Panama is home to 10,000 different plant species and 1,400 variations of orchids. The country has 678 ferns and more than 1,500 types of trees. Its biodiversity is three times higher than the United States, Canada and Europe combined. Panama offers visitors a variety of ways to experience the country’s natural attractions, including birding, whitewater rafting, and snorkeling tours. Panama is the only place in the world where you can watch the sun rise on the Pacific Ocean and set on the Atlantic Ocean from the same spot--a truly unforgettable way to start or end your day! At the narrowest point of Panama, just 80 kilometers (50 miles) separates the two oceans. Monkey at Soberania National Park, by Jayger McGough - @Adventurers on Instagram

Interesting…Tell me More Panama’s unique location provides a lifetime of memories. The country is gifted with rainforests, a desert, and breathtaking beaches on both coastlines, the Caribbean and the Pacific, all within driving distance from the city. And because Panama uses U.S. currency, U.S. travelers won’t have to worry about changing money before arriving in the country.

Where should I stay in Panama? Hands down, find a way to stay at The Santa Maria, a Luxury Collection Hotel & Golf Resort. The Santa Maria is the only resort in Panama City with lush grounds, a golf course, an expansive pool area and country club.

The Santa Maria Hotel Golf Course, by Jayger McGough - @Adventurers on Instagram

I’m in…How do I get to Panama? Panama is easily accessible by all major airlines. We hopped on a flight from Miami to Panama through Copa Airlines and it was a breeze. 2 hours and a half hours after departing from Miami, we were in a whole new country, with vibrant smells, and adventure awaiting us…oh and by the way, the airline served warm meals each time. It is amazing to think that in just a few hours one can be

in a completely foreign land. This is one of the reasons Panama would make an excellent weekend getaway…wink wink. If Panama is your connecting country through Copa Airlines, consider maximizing your travel experience by taking advantage of Copa Airlines’ stopover program. You can get up to 7 days in Panama City without paying any additional airfare as part of your trip… what a deal!

The centerpiece of The Santa Maria is a Jack Nicklaus-designed golf course that stretches across the resort’s lush grounds and has been celebrated as one of the Caribbean’s finest courses. Meticulously groomed to perfection, this 18-hole, par-72 golf course features gently rolling fairways, razor-sharp greens and strategically placed bunkers that create a challenging golf experience for players of all skill levels. The Santa Maria (also the name of the area where the resort is located) is the most sought-after neighborhood in Panama City. Cacao & Coffee Santa Maria Spa Treatment After indulging in the tasty and unique hotel experiences, it was time for the spa, where cacao and coffee were used in ways I didn’t know possible. The cacao plant, which is used to make chocolate, is a source of vitamin C, magnesium, antioxidants and omega 6 fatty acids which help repair cells. It also increases blood flow and improves the complexion. Coffee has a rich source of antioxidants, it enhances circulation and boosts energy levels.

The Santa Maria’s culinary program is a gourmet experience. First of all we have Mestizo Restaurant, where they serve Mediterranean cuisine with Panamanian influences in an elegant atmosphere. I would recommend trying their catch of the day along with their Seabass Aguachile. After a day of exploring, we recommend taking a dip in the Santa Maria’s refreshing pool—it’s the perfect way to cool off. Cabanas are great for reading

42 | |resident.com 48 resident.com

The Cacao & Coffee Santa Maria spa option provides a meditative experience. The adventure begins with an organic coconut oil massage. Coconut oil is excellent for moisturizing your skin and preventing dryness. Next, your body is exfoliated with coffee grounds which has the effect of smoothening out your skin. An obsidian stone removes the scrub before the body is coated in an organic cocoa mask that penetrates deeply into pores and removes toxins. As the antioxidants and nourishing attributes of the mask penetrate your skin, the therapist performs a relaxing head, neck, shoulder and scalp massage. I will never forget the smells that filled the room during each step of my treatment. The smell of chocolate was so rich and may I say…delicious. Without a doubt, I would recommend this memorable experience.

Joshua Hall, our guide in Panama, made exploring and learning about Panama a piece of cake. Joshua studied ecotourism and was an absolute expert at his craft. Getting to learn from him was a key reason our experience around Panama was so memorable. Joshua works for a company called Truly Panama, which specializes in curating unique tailor made experiences based on the interests of the traveler. Panama Canal The Panama Canal is one of the seven modern wonders of the world. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers built the Canal between 1904 and 1914. Richard Halliburton swam across the Canal in 1928 for a toll price of 36 cents, the record lowest toll ever paid to cross the Canal. Side note…Did no one tell Richard that there are alligators in the canal? We saw over 7 alligators when we visited! It cost Richard 36 cents to cross… Want to to guess how much it costs a vessel to cross the canal today? The cost ranges between $200,000 & $450,000 depending on the size of the ship. The Panama Canal alone generates a full third of Panama’s entire economy.

Casco Viejo

Soberania National Park

As you meander through the narrow, cobbled streets of Casco Viejo, also known as the Old Town, you’ll find yourself surrounded by history. See colorful buildings with Spanish colonial architecture, historic ruins, and great views out over the bay towards the gleaming towers of modern Panama City. This area is compact and all sights are within walking distance.

Panama City is home to Soberania National Park, one of the world’s most renowned natural attractions. Soberania offers a wealth of flora and fauna that makes it ideal for birdwatching. The park is home to over 500 different bird species and 100 types of mammals. Make sure you stop by the Hummingbird viewpoint and don’t forget your camera! Intimo Restaurante, Jayger McGough @Adventurers on Instagram

Oh and it gets better…In the evening, Casco Viejo’s historic buildings are lit up artistically, and restaurants set up tables and chairs on the sidewalks. Casco Viejo is ideal for a romantic getaway, with many boutique hotels located in restored buildings dating from the 18th or 19th century. Coffee Tour - Café Unido If you love coffee, then you’ll want to learn more about geisha coffee, the finest variety in the world. It’s grown in Panama and other countries, but we’ll focus on its production in Panama. Geisha coffee is a variety of coffee Arabica originally from the village of Geisha in Ethiopia. The seeds were taken to Costa Rica and later to Boquete in Panama, where they have been cultivated by growers who have won international awards for their product. The flavor profile is one aspect that makes geisha coffee so well known. It has a sweet flavor and aroma of floral notes, jasmine, chocolate, honey, and even black tea. This unique flavor contributed to its reputation and consequently to the considerable price tag and prestige. Boquete Geisha coffee is considered both the most expensive and best coffee in the world.

Care for a Romantic Night Out…We’ve got your back Intimo Restaurante is a “gastro-cultural” restaurant in Panama City. Located near the center of the city, Intimo is intimate in both its cuisine and seating capacity. Carlos “Chombolin” Alba describes his restaurant as a place where guests can enjoy local specialties at their best. The name Intimo comes from the Spanish word for “intimate,” which describes the cozy atmosphere of Chombolin’s eatery. Due to the limited seating capacity, reservations are recommended. Our favorite dishes were the Arroz con Pifia, charred octopus and make sure to leave room for dessert…their cheesecake is amongst the best I’ve tried. And that my friend, is the humble opinion of a self proclaimed cheesecake connoisseur. Chef “Chombolin” the head chef has an inspiring passion and love for food.

Panama, Panama & Panama…A country that offers a wealth of experiences for those who choose adventure or those who enjoy luxury. The natural beauty of the land is complemented by the warmth and hospitality of the people, who welcome all visitors to enjoy the cosmopolitan landscapes, rainforests and urban areas found in Panama City. Rainforests, high end restaurants, coffee tastings…You name it. This bustling city has it all. If you’re coming for the weekend or for a week, it will be key to stay at a location that has easy access to the top spots mentioned above. We loved staying at The Santa Maria Hotel & Golf Resort and we’d stay there again in a heartbeat. Being at the resort allowed us to visit all the locations we visited with ease and was without a doubt a significant highlight in our trip. Alright my friend, the world is at your fingertips, you deserve to go on an adventure!

DELAVIEW DelaView began as a 1930’s fishing cottage that was rebuilt, circa 2006, into a stately home on the shores of the Delaware River. The home, sited on Bridge 4, in Pipersville, is considered one of the more coveted Bridges along the River. The home is meticulously maintained both in appearances and in its landscaping. The interior foyer offers storage areas and the entrance into a two-car garage. The elevator, which covers all three levels, is ideal for those looking for easy living and an elevated access to River views without having to climb stairs. The main level is an open concept with living room, informal dining and a chef’s kitchen with high-end appliances. This elongated space is basked in sunlight from the contiguous wall of glass that showcases one of the more magnificent River views. There are two bedrooms and two baths on this level…One is substantial enough to be a first floor primary bedroom suite. The second level provides a large primary suite with stunning views of the River. The third bedroom suite contains a built-in desk space and an ingenious queen size “Murphy Bed” that is still ahead of its time. Within this bedroom is a dry sauna perfect for relief from the Winter months. This sauna can be easily converted in the future to a walk- in closet. There isn’t a room in this house where River views don’t take precedent. The deck off of the main room is cantilevered and spacious and has a glass railing wall that purposely provides full views of the River in all directions. The property, extends across the street to an additional two-car garage, lawn space for family gatherings and the home of a new septic system. DelaView is a home that grew from a simple River cottage into a proper Riverfront home that is perfect for a weekend escape or a full-time residence. It is rare that a property of this quality with this abundance of River shoreline comes on today’s marketplace. As the name “DelaView” aptly states, it will be a while before a home with these views of the Delaware become available again. 20 minutes to New Hope, 10 minutes to Frenchtown, N.J. and 90 minutes to Manhattan. $1,475,000
