MESSAGE FROM THE MANAGING D I R E CTO R While the global discussion on net zero emissions continue to intensify, ResourceCo Energy is gearing up to support the manufacturing industry and high energy users with low-cost energy solutions through a new world-class Resource Recovery Facility (RRF) in Brisbane – this will displace the reliance on fossil fuels, and further cut down greenhouse gas emissions.

OUR VISION

Excel in resource recovery and commercial performance by using innovative technology to transform waste into usable products. The Summer edition of Full Circle comes at an exciting point in our growth journey with the waste recycling industry continuing to gather momentum. As a dedicated business adding value to different waste streams for 30 years, we see a massive shift in focus towards the industry which presents great opportunities.

We are in the business of resource recovery transforming waste into usable products. We are focused on preserving the planet’s limited resources, both for today and future generations.

We are committed to consistently delivering on our brand promise and going the extra mile to get the job done, ensuring we leave a positive legacy.

Creativity is part of our DNA, embedded in the actions of our Executive, employees and business partners. We challenge the way we operate to drive progress towards a circular economy.

We are dynamic and responsive, acting with speed & nimbleness in providing innovative solutions for our customers and stakeholders.

At the forefront of our growth curve is Tyrecycle’s new tyre recycling plant which has officially commenced operations at Erskine Park in Sydney with a production capacity of 10,000 tonnes of crumbed rubber and generating 40,000 tonnes of Tyre Derived Fuel (TDF). The multi-million-dollar project will further support the growing demands of domestic and international markets for repurposed used tyres post the COAG waste export ban on whole-baled tyres. Our deep understanding of waste tyres, plant & equipment, and catering to the needs of our clients through a diversified range of products, makes us well placed to expand our business operations across Australia. We are also investing to include untapped mining waste (tyres and conveyor belts) which would otherwise be buried in pit or stockpiled, adding further value to progressing a circular economy. I am excited about our continued innovation and manufacturing capabilities that contribute to circularity through adding value to waste material.

The recent developments ahead of COP26 in Glasgow has generated massive global attention on credible carbon abatement programmes and accelerated sustainability commitments of organisations. Companies are making bold commitments towards 2050 targets with a huge focus on generating credible carbon transition plans. We see sustainability now viewed at a much more elevated level. This incredible step up, is an opportunity to strongly position the waste recycling industry, offering sustainability transformation through a unique business model of repurposing waste into usable products. ResourceCo has been a pioneer in carbon abatement with 60 million tonnes of waste recycled generating over 2 million tonnes of carbon abatement. We are accredited under multiple government schemes and the first company to be registered under the Federal Government’s Emissions Reduction Fund (ERF). As ResourceCo continues its growth momentum, our development pipeline with capital investments is estimated to produce 1.5 million tonnes of carbon abatement annually with 10 million tonnes of materials recycled and repurposed. Our focus on the future also includes massive growth plans for Recycling & Waste and Material Solutions business pillars which will continue to expand across our national footprint. I am particularly proud of the ‘ResourceCo Family’ and grateful for their dedicated efforts and continued support throughout a turbulent 2021. ResourceCo is all about its people - a dynamic team of over 800 employees working together towards common goals and aspirations! I look forward to an even more exciting journey in 2022. Wishing you all a fantastic holiday season and all the very best for the New Year! Simon Brown Managing Director, ResourceCo 05

It’s pleasing Australia has made a commitment on climate action to achieving net zero by 2050, with Prime Minister Scott Morrison attending the recent COP26 Glasgow summit to spread the word globally about the country’s emissions reduction direction. CEO of ResourceCo Energy Henry Anning says carbon offsets will be a crucial part to Australia meeting this goal and complements ResourceCo’s decades of work in assisting companies to achieve carbon neutral status through the provision of carbon abatement credits. “Moving forward, the authenticity of carbon credits will be an important focus for the Government,” Henry says. “As a pioneer in carbon abatement here in Australia, ResourceCo continues to work with organisations to deliver on emissions reduction targets with credible transition plans. “Proudly as a company to date and under the carbon abatement process, we have avoided two million tonnes of emissions which is equivalent to us taking 450,000 petrol vehicles off our roads. “Our long-standing cement customer Adbri has announced its aspiration to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2050 and committed to increasing their use of renewable energy and alternative fuels. “We are on track to continue our ambitious growth plans to support sustainability transformation and help heavy industries decarbonise their operations, while supporting and creating jobs.” ResourceCo Energy is set to rollout new resource recovery plants which produce Processed Engineered Fuel (PEF) Australia-wide, with development currently underway in Brisbane. “This is a game-changer for south-east Queensland and will give the state significant alternative disposal options for C&D and C&I waste streams.

06

“The new multi-million dollar state-of-theart plant is in the accessible industrial area of Hemmant and is expected to open in early 2023. “It’s mirrored on our existing resource recovery plants in Sydney and Adelaide, where up to 250,000 tonnes per annum of dry commercial and industrial and mixed construction and demolition waste is received per annum, recovering commodities such as metal, aggregates and inert materials. “The plant will transform waste from selected non-recycled waste streams that would otherwise go into landfill into a baseload energy source – PEF, which is then used as a substitute for fossil fuels in both domestic and offshore markets in the production of cement and in the future at Energy Recovery Facilities.” The new Hemmant plant will provide employment for 60 people and will complement the state’s recently introduced waste levy to encourage Queenslanders to reduce, reuse and recycle. Queensland has been the last mainland state to introduce a waste levy aimed at all commercial, business and industry operators, after it was identified more than half of its waste ended up in landfill. “The opportunity for us to tap into this market is huge both environmentally and economically,” Henry says. The project is also eligible for Australian Carbon Credit United (ACCUs) due to its diversion of biomass waste from landfill and has been supported by grant funding from the Queensland Government as part of its Resource Recovery Industry Development Program. To make a sustainable future possible, investment in resource recovery and innovative waste to energy solutions is essential - our next resource recovery plant is earmarked for Melbourne. The industry has a massive role to play, as we together progress towards net zero. 07

W E H AV E YOUR BACK AUSTRALIA “WE KNOW CONSUMERS WILL SHIFT THEIR PURCHASING DECISIONS BASED O N I N T R I N S I C VA LU E S A N D T H AT E N V I R O N M E N TA L S U S TA I N A B I L I T Y I S O N E O F T H O S E , B U T T H AT N E E D S TO B E S U P P O R T E D A L L T H E W AY U P T H E C H A I N . ” The pursuit of new domestic and international markets for quality tyre-derived products is a core focus of Australia’s leading tyre recycler Tyrecycle, ahead of the December 2021 introduction of the COAG tyre waste ban. Jim Fairweather, CEO of ResourceCo’s tyre recycling company Tyrecycle, reflects on just how critical it is that Australia commits resources to developing a strong domestic market, while continuing to strengthen and grow the international market. “We have to work together to drive sustainable solutions to the generation of waste tyres in Australia, especially as the estimated 60 thousand tonnes of previously whole-baled and exported tyres come online.” Mr Fairweather says.

08

“We have collected 3.9 million tyres in the last three months alone – that will increase substantially post December and we need to continue to work with Governments, retailers and consumers to drive sustainable end solutions. “We need consumers to be asking their retailers what happens to their used tyres; we need to support retailers in educating consumers on the real costs of recycling, while at the same time promoting and supporting the development of viable and sustainable markets for end-oflife tyres. “We know consumers will shift their purchasing decisions based on intrinsic values and that environmental sustainability is one of those, but that needs to

“ W E H AV E C O L L E C T E D 3 . 9 MILLION TYRES IN THE LAST T H R E E M O N T H S A LO N E . . .”

be supported all the way up the chain.”

“We’re creating high quality recycled products, but in unison with that we need to see a real commitment to bold procurement targets for repurposed materials, across all levels of Government.

Tyrecycle is currently undertaking the largest infrastructure investment program in the 30 year history of the company as it gears up to deal with the increase in end-of-life tyres being processed here in Australia. “To meet demand, we have had a new tyre recycling plant come online in Sydney, while a second new plant is scheduled for WA within the next year, and we are further bolstering our operations in South Australia, Victoria, and Queensland.” “We’re investing over $50 million in new plants and machinery to deliver strong environmental and economic outcomes with surety of service and chain of custody exceeding industry standards.”

Tyrecycle’s eight processing plants across Australia produce crumbed rubber for use in tile adhesive, playing fields and road surfaces, as well as tyre-derived-fuel (TDF) which is used as an alternative to fossil fuels such as gas, coal, or oil in industrial applications such as cement kilns.

“For example, there’s huge opportunity to increase the use of recycled rubber content in roads and to develop appropriate national standards that support that. Trials have already demonstrated improved grip and braking distances, reduced noise levels and reduced whole-of-life costs.

As well as growing domestic markets, Tyrecycle continues to invest resources in the development of new international markets and recently entered into a new trail for supply of TDF to Thailand as a significant growth opportunity. “Expanding partnerships, both locally and globally, will be key to supporting competitiveness and scale - we’ll only achieve the goal of circularity if all stakeholders accept there is responsibility at every level.”

“We also see significant upside in developing the domestic market for use of TDF, by encouraging partnerships with industrial companies who share our goals for greener supply chains.

OUR DRIVING FO R C E

What inspired your move to ResourceCo? Having worked with ResourceCo in my previous role, I saw first hand, the energy and cando attitude that exists throughout the organisation. Having learned a bit more about what ResourceCo was aiming to achieve, I was excited to have the opportunity to be a part of that.

BRAD LEMMON Chief Executive Officer, Recycling & Waste

What do you think are the most important attributes of successful leaders? Successful leaders, know that team success comes from having a diverse group of people who provide an equally diverse range of skills and views. Having the ability to recognise those skills and support the team to bring those skills and views together is one of the most important leadership skills. Honesty, energy and the ability to empower the team to be creative and innovative are essential. How do you encourage the generation of great ideas across the organisation? It is really important to ensure that all voices in the team are heard, and individuals feel they are able to come up with left of field ideas.

This is then further encouraged by ensuring that appropriate resources and support are available to enable those ideas to be enacted. This is well and truly in the DNA of ResourceCo!. What do you see as the strongest opportunities for growth across the resource recovery sector? We are witnessing a significant shift in society’s attitude to sustainability. Many industries and organisations are increasingly challenged to find ways to reduce their emissions profile and improve their environmental performance. We are incredibly well placed to support them by providing innovative and creative solutions…. How do you measure success both personally and as a team? Simple – have we improved just a little bit everyday? What can you tell people about yourself that isn’t in your CV? I love all types of music – and enjoy playing guitar with a couple of mates whenever I can.

S A N J D E S I LVA Director, Marketing & Corporate Affairs What do you think is the biggest challenge facing leaders today? The COVID-19 pandemic has created an entirely new set of challenges for leaders. Undercutting everything is the overwhelming ‘uncertainty’. The length of the pandemic, the direction of the economy, and the severity of the ‘unknown’ have almost forced leaders themselves to adapt and think on their feet to remain relevant. Leaders are not only challenged to navigate working through a new normal but along with it is the task of building a new work culture and motivating teams to be agile and adapt. How do you see ResourceCo evolving and how do you see your role as contributing to that? ResourceCo is on an ambitious growth journey and I am excited and proud to be a part of it. Globally, there is a massive focus on the waste recycling industry as more and more organisations are conscious of their business models and its impact.

ResourceCo remains a force for good as a pioneer in carbon abatement, and we’re embracing some big aspirations to help rebuild economies stronger, greener, and better. In this backdrop, positioning the organisation to remain at the forefront of this transformation will be an exciting part of my contribution. What goals have you set for your team for 2022? Be agile, nimble and work through the new normal steering a path for ResourceCo to build on the 30 solid years of great success. What’s the biggest risk you’ve ever taken? Moving to Australia in 2020, just before COVID-19 to start a new journey after a successful global career spanning over 25 years. What we thought would be a smooth transition turned into a massive risk which now in hindsight I am glad that I took on the challenge.

What achievement are you most proud of in your career so far? I had the privilege of starting my career as a news anchor at a very young age. Now with over 20 years of corporate experience working for two big global brands, I look back with pride on the positive contributions I have made, to make real sustainable change and appreciate the diverse cultures and teams that came together globally to make it a reality. . What’s your approach to celebrating success? Success is not just about big goals and major achievements. Celebrating small wins along the journey and appreciating the difference each team member contributes has been my winning approach. What are your other interests? “Into the water and out in the wild’ would sum up my interests.

ResourceCo’s multi-million dollar Wingfield plant in Adelaide’s north, continues to lead the charge in building a circular economy and is celebrating the pugmill production milestone of 8 million tonnes of repurposed rubble product to build new roads, homes and buildings. ResourceCo Operations Manager Tim Wadlow says it’s a major achievement to be proud of, as the plant further cements its operations as a leader in Australia’s efforts to repurposing materials otherwise destined for landfill and driving sustainability transformation. “The Wingfield site has led the way right from the start when it commenced operating 25 years ago,” Tim says. “The plant is credited for helping Australia move away from a make, use and dispose model to the recovery, recycling and reuse of products to extract their maximum value – in this case dry non-recyclable materials. “It’s all about using world-leading technology to harness the value in construction, demolition, commercial and industrial waste, otherwise destined for landfill and transforming it into reusable products. “The material we crush at the site and turn into aggregate, sand and rubble, can be used in the construction of roads, concrete, or residential and commercial projects.

“We continue to support and supply product for major infrastructure and transport projects, including the completion of South Australia’s Northern Expressway, Port River Expressway, Flinders Ports at Port Adelaide and the Rail Yard at Regency Park.

“As a company, we remain committed to supporting net zero aspirations of the organisations we work with across Australia and continue to work with them on shared goals for greener supply chains.” The Wingfield plant is fully automated via specifically designed software that also enables ResourceCo’s operators to produce many different blends of Optimum Moisture Content (OMC) products very easily and accurately. The site regularly exceeds its hourly target of 300 tonnes per hour. The 100 tonne cement silo housed at the site, also enables the company to produce cement treated rubble at a percentage rate specified by the customer, further expanding ResourceCo’s range of products available. “At the end of the day, the 8 million tonne milestone would not have been able to be achieved without our dedicated and talented ResourceCo team,” Tim says. “Wingfield Plant Operator Ashly Ireland, who has been with us for over 20 years, has been running the site since its inception. “Ashly is extremely passionate about repurposing materials otherwise destined for landfill and meeting the needs of our customers, while maintaining ResourceCo’s high standards for product quality.” With a significant number of infrastructure and civil projects underway, ResourceCo is already working towards achieving another milestone at Wingfield, by producing 10 million tonnes of reusable product. A GAME CHANGING PA R T N E R S H I P The Prince Alfred Old Collegians ‘Reds’ have worn the ResourceCo logo on their uniforms for 15 years, proudly sharing our organisation’s values of community and commitment. When Head Coach, Craig Pitt, watched his team secure the 2021 Adelaide Footy League premiership, he knew the win was about so much more than the 22 players who had run onto the field that day. “I said to the players before we went out, we represent the whole club including the volunteers, sponsors and everyone else who has played a game or helped us out during the season,” Craig says. “As a coach and a player, winning a grand final brings immense pride and joy and I’m really proud of what the Reds as a club has achieved.” The Reds’ 39-point win over Payneham Norwood United marks the second time in the club’s history that the A Grade team has lifted the Division One premiership cup, and Craig attributes years of hard work, focus and ongoing support to the teams most recent success. “The club’s grown from having Division Four and Five teams in 2009, to being one of the powerhouse clubs in the competition,” Craig says. “Having major sponsors like ResourceCo on board for over 15 years has definitely helped us work our way up through the competition. 16

“Before ResourceCo was a sponsor, the club had never won a Division One premiership flag and now we have secured our second. “Being sponsored, definitely makes a significant difference and helps us stay at that elite level.”

“We have volunteers and board members who set up chairs and marquees every week, life members, current students, water runners, people manning the barbecues, and ex-players in their 70s and 80s who would never miss a game.

Craig admits, operating an amateur football club is not cheap and sponsorships like ResourceCo’s are vital for covering umpiring and maintenance fees as well as costs associated with being a part of the Adelaide Footy League.

“They always are the first to congratulate us after a game, whether you win or lose. So, we’re very fortunate.”

“We have teams in Divisions One through to Four at the moment and you can’t do that without good sponsorship and support,” Craig says.

“Our main goal is to get better and better every week and continue enjoying it,” Craig says.

ResourceCo has become an important part of the passionate community that surrounds the Reds. “It’s a very family-orientated club, and that’s reflected in the people who come out and support us each week.

Craig has signed on as the Reds Head Coach for another year and is looking forward to seeing the club and its community continue to grow.

“Football is about having fun and building strong community bonds, and that’s a big part of what we drive at Prince Alfred Old Collegians. “We’re just very thankful and grateful for the support of our volunteers and our major sponsors like ResourceCo. We wouldn’t be here without them.” 17

“ W E ’ R E S T R I V I N G TO P R O V I D E A STRONGER, SAFER AND MORE S U P P O R T I V E W O R K P L A C E E N V I R O N M E N T.” ResourceCo is proudly committed to driving recognition and support for mental health and wellbeing in the workplace among it’s expanding workforce of 800 employees – everyday.

“We all face various challenges at work which could impact our mental health. ResourceCo offers its employees support outside of the company via a third party Employee Assistance Program (EAP).

The COVID-19 pandemic has led to a sudden change in routine for many, including an increase in working in isolation due to lengthy lockdowns and less face-toface contact, while still getting on with the job.

“The program provides qualified professionals to hold discussions with workers. It’s confidential, free and voluntary.

Each year, approximately one in five Australians will experience a mental illness and it’s estimated about 45 percent of Australian adults may experience mental illness at some point in their lives. ResourceCo National Human Resources Manager Carly Brown says employee wellbeing is at the core of everything ResourceCo does and the company encourages its staff to check-in on each other regularly. “We’re striving to provide a stronger, safer and more supportive workplace environment,” Carly says. “No matter what your role, whether it’s working outdoors and onsite, remotely or at the office, we’re encouraging meaningful conversations by checking-in on your workmates. “There may be no obvious signs that someone is doing it tough but life can be challenging for all of us, whether it’s dealing with anxiety, relationship breakdowns, depression or trying to overcome the stress of a trauma. “As a values-based company, ResourceCo’s core focus is being Sustainable, Committed, Creative and Agile.

“As part of this, we particularly take great pride in providing significant attention to our employees by encouraging a flexible and fun work environment to inspire change, a safe and inclusive workplace and collaborate as one team to achieve goals.” The not-for-profit organisation R U OK? has four simple steps to start a conversation: Ask, Listen, Encourage Action and Check-In.

“It’s all about making it easy for our employees to seek further support if they don’t feel comfortable talking about a particular issue at work or with a colleague. “Certainly more recently, COVID-19 and the fight against the virus has presented a challenging time for all, including keeping up with the different rules and restrictions in each state. “If we’ve learnt anything to date, supporting and looking out for each other has never been more important. “With vaccines being identified as the way out of the pandemic to help protect people from serious illness, latest public health directions have made COVID-19 vaccination mandatory for many roles and industries. “We support the Government’s vaccination initiative to keep our employees, customers, families and communities safe. Understandably many workers may have questions about the vaccination roll-out and requirements and ResourceCo encourages its employees to reach out to their Manager or the Human Resources Department – we’re here to help!” ResourceCo values all its workers and is an equal opportunity employer that is committed to fostering a workplace environment, where workers treat others with courtesy, dignity and respect, and where inappropriate behaviour is not accepted or tolerated.

Having the right skills, plays a critical role in the development of any employee and their growth within a business and ResourceCo Material Solutions has introduced a traineeship program, to provide further career opportunities within the resource recovery industry. ResourceCo Material Solutions CEO Steve Harrison says the traineeship is about providing a jumpstart to a successful career, where the trainee is working and studying at the same time. “The great appeal to our three-year traineeship is we’re providing hands-on experience in a real work environment, where the trainee gains solid exposure across all areas of our business, including sales, business development, transport, operations and administration,” Steve says. “The program also includes a Certificate III in Supply Chain Operations, a nationally recognised qualification in logistics including receival and despatch operations, correct record keeping and work health and safety procedures. “At the end of the three year traineeship, we are looking to offer our trainees a full-time job which reflects their performance and interests.” 22 year old Cooper Reid is the first person to take on a traineeship at ResourceCo Material Solutions, after working in a casual role at the company’s Langwarrin site in Victoria and assisting with administrative duties at the gatehouse. “To be offered a traineeship is not only very exciting but it sets me on the right path to an exciting and rewarding career,” Cooper says. “I am very grateful for the opportunity at ResourceCo Material Solutions, as I feel like I am actually working towards my goal of developing the skills necessary to play a key role in business development. “I’m already building industry connections, have established mentors and really enjoy being onsite learning first-hand what each day brings, including the importance of being flexible when it comes to shift work. “What I am most passionate about is having a job with purpose and providing better outcomes for waste streams so I can play a part to making a real difference to the lives of future generations.”

20

Steve says Cooper is to be congratulated on his willingness to having a go at everything while asking questions along the way – that’s what the traineeship is all about, providing the best educational platform. “With our industry growing rapidly, it’s vital ResourceCo Material Solutions invests in training people to be multi-skilled across all areas of the business and who are committed to the company’s core values: Sustainable, Committed, Creative and Agile. “We are focussed on accelerating growth through innovations and investments to build a sustainable future and the key to achieving this is identifying and building great talent across the company and providing them with solid exposure in all areas of our business.” ResourceCo Material Solutions delivers environmental and social outcomes by providing complete material supply, transport and disposal services for site remediation, rehabilitation and development projects.

THE RULES T H AT S AV E LIVES At ResourceCo, we strive to provide a safety culture in all our operations and are committed to reviewing and updating our policies and procedures to ensure every employee returns home injury free. ResourceCo’s Occupational Health and Safety Policy and proactive approach to hazard management, have resulted in a steady decline of reportable incidents and significant reduction in workplace accidents. This year, we have developed and proudly adopted “ResourceCo’s Nine Life Saving Rules,” aimed at strengthening even further our workplace safety and making it mandatory for all employees, contractors and subcontractors, working for ResourceCo - to learn and follow them. ResourceCo Workplace, Health, Safety and Quality Manager Mazen Elfeky says the Life Saving Rules are basic safety rules for ResourceCo and failure to comply with the rules has the highest potential for serious injury or death. “These rules really highlight the simple actions individuals can take to protect themselves and others. “Our daily goal is to achieve zero injuries onsite and in the office. This is everyone’s responsibility including the contractors and subcontractors we work with, to follow these Safety Rules to stay informed. It is also part of our Workplace, Health, Safety and Quality (WHSQ) induction process,” Mazen says. “We have also added to our safety measures by introducing pocket-sized Take 5 booklets at our worksites, to further assist our employees in recognising and controlling hazards in the workplace. 22

“The Take 5 process is an effective system that promotes a safer working environment. It’s userfriendly and can be used by all workers before commencing a potentially hazardous task. “The idea is to take five minutes before starting any task or during a job where there is a change in conditions, to think about the working environment you are about to enter – Stop and Think, Look for the Hazards, Assess the Risk and Make Changes, then continue working Safely.

“The additional safety measures really help our workers and contractors mitigate exposure to hazards and health risks.” ResourceCo continues to earn multi-site certification during annual audits of its operations and facilities. This is in line with the latest Occupational Health and Safety Management, Environmental Management and Quality Management System standards and includes ISO 45001:2018, ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015 certifications. Working under the ISO accreditation system framework has embedded the continuous improvement mindset within ResourceCo. It also provides assurances and value to our customers that safety, environmental performance and quality - is our number one priority. WHSQ consultation with the workforce as well as visible safety leadership are great tools that are highly recognised within ResourceCo to address areas for improvement on a regular basis. Consultation arrangements are monitored and employees have the right to raise any matter relating to the method of consultation directly with management or their Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) Representative.
