In 2002, the cruisers (sail boaters) anchored in Zihuatanejo bay & gathered to raise funds to build a bilingual classroom for indigenous children. Today the school serves nearly 400 bright-eyed young scholars. And a tradition was born.
Zihua SailFest is a seven-day festival that combines sailing, music, arts & parties, heart-felt volunteerism and an outpouring of international friendship. Although the tone of the events is light-hearted, the goals are serious – to raise funds for the education of Zihuatanejo’s less fortunate children. Last year, due to Covid 19, Sailfest was online only and we still raised $3,375,406.31 pesos for school construction projects and food for the unemployed.
