[ Interview With Emanuele Chiareli (Electric Floor) by Benjamin York. Translation: Rodrigo Debernardis ]

IT’S A STRANGE MELTING POT OF THIS MUSIC GENRES Emanuele Chiareli has been present on our pages in the special issue of Bavid Bowie, now his band, Electric Floor, will release an EP called "Fader" under the Vipchoyo Sound Factory label, next March 6th. We have spoken a little about this and much of the band and for us it is always a pleasure to show new bands from Italy, a country that always brings us interesting new proposals. Hi Emanuele. First of all, thank you for taking part in our special issue on David Bowie earlier on. On this particular theme, what do you feel today when more than a year has passed since his death? It still hasn't hit me that White Duke is passed away. Maybe it's because Bowie made history in the world of music and his songs will stay with us forever. Black Star was final gift to us. It's a really creative and bizarre piece of music. A great piece of art that sound different from day to day. How did you end up choosing your band name Electric Floor? When we named this project we thought about that feeling when we’re playing. I't's like feeling electricity from the bottom, from the floor. Who or what has influenced your music? In our music you can find a lot of influences, but we certainly get inspiration from 90s Shoegaze and Post-Rock, 80s New Wave and actual electronic music. It’s a strange melting pot of this music genres. You are usually labeled shoegaze and synth gaze. How would you explain Electric Floor’s sound yourself? We love the idea of creating a big sound suggestion with tons of reverb and stratification of electronic

parts. What differences do you see between your first two albums and this new “Fader” EP, the first single for which we’ve just heard? Electric Floor is formed in 2009 with another formation and the majority of our songs were in Italian. There was a drastic line up change in 2014. The line up change brought so many things in our sound. Programming and synth have been replaced by drums. Once there were two guitars now there is only mine and it’s fun to experience something new. Programming and synth make it “international” our sound and the song in English make this so great. How do you see music in Italy today with bands like Stella Diana, Weird, Be Forest and Novanta, among others. Do you know and get along with each other? Yes, I know some of these bands. I certainly know Stella Diana, one of the best Italian shoegaze bands and our good friends. We count on a strong friendship between us and it has been a pleasure to work with them. I also really like Novanta. About other Italian Bands, we would like to mention other big bands such as Clustersun, Rev Rev Rev, In Her Eye, Il Ragazzo Del Novantanove, and Kimono Lights. You say that "Bluedive" came about during a bad period for the band. Can you tell us more about this? It’s a private matter that we resolved. The release date of the EP is in March. Are you expecting other releases to happen again this year? Who knows? Now we focused on new ep and new concerts.
