A RIVER THAT FLOWS ENDLESSLY WITH STRENGTH AND PASSION

3 On the 1st of June, the third and new album of the Italian band "In Her Eye" has been released. Born as a trio in 2011 and that for this work are transformed into a quartet. With an impeccable shoegaze, neat and beautiful, the band has answered our questions, establishing a bridge that returns us to the Italogaze that adds another great album to its history.

How is the band born and why the name? The band was officially born with this name in 2011, even though it already existed with a different name and musical style. We have been friends for a life and we started to play together. The name was born when we decided to indulge to the musical change we felt the need to do. At that time we had a different but similar name (which we’re not going to tell you, we want to keep a little secret about that) but we needed something “sweetier”. Giuseppe has been asked several times why feminine is often used in his lyrics. And he says woman can perfectly represent sense of life. So, the name of the band itself represent the feminine eye. The feminine point of view is in all In Her Eye’s songs. In 2011 they release the debut album "Anywhere out of the World", what do you remember of those years? We were very excited. Basically we recorded the album in our rehearsal room with a friend of us who had just started working as a sound engineer, so we were free to spend a long time working on it, experimenting sounds and effects. Recording and mixing took almost one year of work. Too much probably, but we had a lot of material, even old material, so we had to make all this things homogeneous. Unfortunately, the label who released the album didn’t really support us.

2014 launch "Bordeline" an EP and then remain little active, contributing to three compiled "The Blog That Celebrates Itself", in addition to these collaborations, what have you been doing? We worked on the new material and played live. Sometimes we are very active, sometimes we are slow, but we always work about something. And we kept contact with the other Italian bands of the scene that was growing…. They have already completed the first ten years of existence as a band. What have you learned that you do not have to do again? It’s better to work by yourself than to work with someone who doesn’t really support you and just want to make money. Second album of the band is called "Change", tell me about this feeling of change that the album refers to. We consider “Change” as our third album actually. “Change” is dedicated to movement, to transformation. In the last few years, we passed through a lot of changings: broken relationships, news relationships, new births, new life philosophies. All of us had his change to face. The lineup has changed as well. It’s all about awakening to the real essence of life, which is constant change. The demarcation point is accepting and not beco-

ming victim to transformation. Changing yourself constantly and adapting like water to the situations. It’s like a river that flows endlessly with strength and passion. We wanted this energy and flowing to be felt in the album. It has just joined Raffaele Bocchetti ex Stella Diana. What has Raffaele brought to the sound of In Her Eye? Raffaele has brought the experience of a great musician. He is an incredible arranger, with a great sense of melody and a cool guy as well. He helped us being more focused. And he came from a band we always loved. At the beginning we we’re not sure about the integration of another member in the band, because you know, three is the perfect number. But we were wrong. Change would have been impossibile without Raffaele.

We have friendships with a lot of cool bands, all involved is the so called “Italogaze” scene: Stella Diana, Rev RevRev, Clustersun, Electric Floor, Klam, The Mystic Morning, Novanta, and many others. It’s a very genuine scene with a strong sense of “underground”, that started to grow spontaneously with a group of band who respected and supported each other. Then this movement started to be heard outside of Italy as well, thanks to the work of two great blogs who helped keeping a constant rumor: Shoegazin’ Your Waves (which is now a web radio as well) and Shoegaze Blog. This two blogs, with Seashell Records and VipchoyoSound Facotryhas just released the “Chiaroscuro. Italogaze 2018” compilation and we strongly recommend to have a listen to it, if you want to have a clearer idea about this phenomenon.

The Italian scene has many references If they had to choose the sound that within shoegaze and post punk. What most identifies them, what song of the bands do you have friendship with? new album would it be?

We don’t know if it identify us the most, but our favorite song off Change is “As in a Dream”. This song comes from a dream. Giuseppe suddenly woke up with the melody and the mood in his mind and tried it on his acoustic guitar. We weren’t so sure about this song at the beginning because at that time the song was connecting to Giuseppe’s mind better than to the rest of the band. But music is stronger than words so at the end we found a way to connect and the song started to take shape. We added synth in this song as well, to create an evocative mood, to represent the sense of eternity of existence, the vision of possible better futures and the awareness of being part of the whole. Connection between all and each. In this song, Giuseppe played a third guitar to give the melody a scented shade, soft for the ear. At the end of the song, you can sense our determination to make the dream real and maybe (with a little pretention) we made it

How long did it take them to write and record the new album? It took a couple of years to write all the songs and three months to record, mix and master it. So we’ve been pretty fast this time! The album has been published on June 1st, are you planning to present it live? Of course! We love to record albums but we love even more playing live. It gives you incredible emotions and energy, it’s like a cathartic state. And it allows you to connect directly with people. To finish, what plans does In Her Eye have for this 2018? We want to play live as more as we can and we’d like to play live abroad. Then we’ll keep promoting the album: we are working on a DYI video for the song “Change” and planning another video for “As in a dream”. So stay tuned because more is yet to come.
