[ Interview with Alban Hajduk from The Junkyard Liberty by Diego Centurión ]
THE RESULT IS HERE TODAY… After hearing Chains Blood Red, their debut album, we could contact the band from Caen (France) to know a little beyond his music. Led by David Fitzgerald (founder of The Telescopes member) and Alban Hajduk. Hey guys, thanks for giving us this opportunity for our readers to know about you. Why the name of the band? We decided on a politically loaded name for the band…We believe that words are powerful, a junkyard is the place where the old cars go to die and the same can be said for the idea of liberty in the west nowadays… Hence the junkyard liberty… When the band was born? The band was born about 5 years ago, in the late 2011, when I (Alban) met David, then we have started jamming together, and created our sound in studio, trying stuffs, until nowadays… We are now 6 in the band, with Manon on vocals, Louis on Drums, Lucie on violin and Mathis on Bass… We’ve started thinking about creating a band two years ago… the result is here today… What are the influences of The Junkyard Liberty? We have influences from every decades since the 30’s, Robert Johnson as Neil Young and Buffalo Springfield, or the Yardbirds and Love… Dave grew up in the late 60’s, and listening the greatest bands of that time…Moreover, there are all these bands since the late 80’s until today, which are big influence for us too, bands like spacemen 3 , BJM, or more cu-
rrently Allah-las for instance… So our influences are mainly about rock’n’roll and Folk and blues How would you describe the music of The Junkyard Liberty for those who do not know? I don’t really know how to describe our music… I’d think about the sound you need if you want to chill in the end of a sunny afternoon…between some atmospherically folk sound and some noisy bluesy rock’n’roll? Listen it, and you’ll be able to describe it to me. How is working with a label like "Wrong Way Records"? It’s working well, WWR gives us the opportunity to produce our music on vinyl, just because Al is a music lover… Thank you btw… It’s nice to work like that, selfless services. Have you seen the videos that have made Psychoactiv? As with the label, psychoactiv has done several video for us… all the video he did, are really good, and he did some for a lot of bands from “neopsychedelic rock”… I like this idea, we just send him a song, and a few days later he sends us the result …it’s an interesting thing… I mean he’s directly creating what our sound make him think, with videos… How do you get to record Chains Blood Red? How was the writing process of the album's songs? We recorded it last February in our studio, lost deep in the middle of the Normandy, with Barclay Woodwho’s especially come from England for recording,

mixing and playing some drums- and the full band… This album is made of songs we had written during the last two years… There are folk and psychedelia in their songs, how is the sound of the live band? The band becomes rockers? To play music in live is a completely different thing than to create and record an album… On stage we have a set more rock and noisy a bit… Our set is in a continual evolution…We just try to bring new stuffs, new sounds all the time… But for sure, the album is more folk and calm than our set in live…
What plans are for this 2016 for The Junkyard Liberty? Finishing the year with some gigs to promote the album, and then working on our new songs/projects Can we expect in 2017 a new publication? Probably… We’ll go back on studio during the winter, we’ve got plenty of work, so you’ll probably hear about us in the next few months again... Thanks Guys!!
