HOW TO FIND THE RIGHT GYM IN BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS

Let's face it, there are a million different gyms out there today and all of them are a little bit different. Reynold Levau is sharing some great tips right here to help you make the right choice in gym selection in Boston, Massachusetts!

local: Find a gym close to home. Most people, despite their best intentions, won’t regularly drive more than 15 minutes, says Reynold Levau, a fitness industry consultant. Use Google Maps or another online tool to plot all gyms within a five-mile radius. While you’re scoping out your options, check for easy parking, another potential deterrent to hitting the gym.

 Sweat

a test drive: Insist on getting a free one-day pass to check out the facilities for yourself. Some gyms will even offer you up to three days--or even a full week—to try them on for size. But if they don't let you experience their facility for free, then don't bother and walk out—that alone should clue you in on their poor business practices right from the start.

 Take

the math: Don't be afraid to ask how many members they currently have and what their capacity is. If it's a new gym— or you're joining a gym in the summertime when more people tend to forsake the gym for the out-of-doors—you may only be looking at half of the members. In 6 months, the gym could be twice as crowded.

 Do

Cleanliness: How clean is the facility? Are there staff members who wipe down the equipment daily? Do they make sure members wipe down their equipment after using it? Is there trash on the floor? Are their locker rooms a mess? These are all things to consider when purchasing a membership.



Equipment : The equipment that you use needs to be in good working condition, with no problems with its usage. Look at the different styles and brands of equipment that they have, and make sure that it is something you are interested in using.

Fee Even if you can't negotiate a better monthly rate, you can almost always request that the membership fee (or initiation fee) be waived or reduced. If the gym won't do it, walk away. Chances are you won't be allowed out the door before coming to an agreement.
