CGC Day of Service

The holidays are a great time to reflect on our many blessings. I am grateful to every soror for the service you continue to render through your faithful dedication and commitment to Rho Chi Zeta. Your outpouring of support in the planning and implementation of our chapter programs, events and activities validates a fervent desire to take PXZ to even higher heights. As 2012 comes to a close and we all prepare for the numerous parties, celebrations and gatherings that are synonymous with this time of year, be sure to take a moment from the chaos and remember the true meaning of the season. During this time with family and friends, reflect on the blessings we’ve received during the past year and seek opportunities to be a blessing to others. The expression "Pay It Forward" describes doing something good for someone in response to a good deed done on your behalf. I challenge you this season to pay it forward! Happy Holidays and thank you for the opportunity to serve the remarkable Rho Chi Zeta Chapter! Sisterly,

Undergraduate Corner

Basileus Monthly Inspiration Leadership is Pursuit “One of the most often overlooked aspects of leadership is the need for pursuit. Great leaders are never satisfied with traditional practice, static thinking, conventional wisdom, or common performance. In fact, the best leaders are simply uncomfortable with anything that embraces the status quo. Leadership is pursuit – pursuit of excellence, of elegance, of truth, of what’s next, of what if, of change, of value, of results, of relationships, of service, of knowledge, and of something bigger than themselves. “ -Mike Myatt

Zetas Making History As a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., Elizabeth Duncan Koontz was the first black president of the National Education Association and director of the Women's Bureau in President Nixon's Department of Labor. Trained as a teacher, Soror Koontz was a product of a strictly segregated South. Yet she also grew up in an atmosphere of remarkable educational achievement and spent her career championing equal rights and opportunities for blacks, women, and the working poor. Soror Koontz became a national figure in 1964 when the Department of Classroom Teachers, the largest organization within the million-member National Education Association, elected her president. She served from 1965-66, and when the group renamed itself the Association of Classroom Teachers, she played a major role. The education association, like the South and the rest of American society, was undergoing dramatic changes at the time. The teachers' organization was turning from its conservative rural past toward activism and a willingness to strike. It also changed its policies to invite black teachers to take part in its affairs. Soror Koontz passed away in her North Carolina home on January 6th, 1989. OUT
