Needle Matching Thread (for appliquéing of the face)

Step One: Assemble Pumpkin With your rotary cutter cut out 5 ~ 2 ½” x 10” strips of orange fabric to make the pumpkin body. Place two strips right sides together and sew using a ¼” inch seam allowance. Repeat with the remaining strips (remember to so in opposite directions to prevent your block from curving). Press. Step Two: Snowball Pumpkin Mark your 3” squares from one corner to the opposite corner on the diagonal with an erasable marking tool (as shown below)) or fold into a triangle and press (will give you your sewing line).

Sew the triangle to the corners of the pumpkin block along the marked line (as shown below). Trim leaving a ¼” seam allowance. Press triangles back creating a square. Your block should look like the block on the right.

Step Three: Creating Stem Sew the 1 ½” x 2” brown strip to 1 of the 1 ½” x 5” strips right sides together using a ¼” seam allowance. Sew the other 1 ½” x 5” strip to the remaining side of the brown strip making sure to put the right sides together. Press. Attach to the top of the pumpkin, centering the stem (remember if you used strips to place the strips vertical to represent the vertical lines on a pumpkin). Use a ¼” seam allowance, set the seam and press back so your block will look like the one below.

Step Four: Finishing Block First attach the 1 ½” x 10” strip to the bottom of your block using a ¼” seam allowance. Press. Next attach the two 1 ½” x 12” strips to each side of the block. Press. Your block should look like this when complete.

Step Five: AppliquĂŠing the Face Using either your black or brown fabric (which ever color you chose) cut out your face shapes. You will need 2 eyes and a mouth. Pin the pieces in place, and whip stitch the face to the block to complete your Jack-OLantern.
