There are many benefits of strength training – also referred to as resistance training or weight training – including improved strength, muscle, endurance and overall fitness.

Strength training can be done with no equipment whatsoever by simply working against your own body weight, or you can include free weights or resistance bands.

Improved Health and Fitness An improvement in overall health and fitness is one of the main benefits of strength training, and according to the renowned Mayo clinic, strength training also has many more specific health benefits. Reducing body fat and building lean muscle mass are two of the top advantages of this type of workout, but strength training also boosts the metabolism – making weight loss easier – and helps the body to become a more efficient calorieburning machine, even after the workout has come to an end.

Additional Benefits An increase in bone density has been seen amongst those who use strength training techniques, so better bone health is another advantage, as is an increase in flexibility and range of motion.
