Peripheral neuropathy is a condition that involves damage to the nerves in your feet. Symptoms include muscle cramp ing, difficulty walking, burning, tingling, numbness, and pain. In many cases, it’s caused by diabetes, but poor circulation can also cause these symptoms or make them worse. Poor circulation or PAD (peripheral artery disease) is caused by the buildup of fatty material inside the arteries which hardens into plaque. When this occurs, it limits the amount of blood that passes through the arteries. “Your feet need the oxygen and nutrients that the blood carries to stay healthy,” says Dr. Kerry Zang, of CIC Foot & Ankle. “If you have poor circulation, your body will tell you it needs help. You’ll find yourself needing to rest because your leg cramps when you walk even a short dis tance, or at night you might have to dan gle your legs over the side of the bed to relieve a cramp in your foot.”The good news is specialists are able to treat PAD with a min imally officeprocedureinvasiveinansetting.

“Traditionally, people have only had to prepare for a newscast or a radio interview. But since every communication that we put out there — via Twitter, via TikTok, via social media can become part of a larger story, there’s a whole other level of teaching people to make sure that they’re communicating appropriately at all times. Because one misstep can become the headline and go viral,” she says. “On the positive side, you can be strategic and create communications that are sticky, and those can go viral to help your business.”
The fear of public speaking is one of the main reasons Siefkin’s program is needed. It’s often mentioned as one of the most common phobias or causes of social anxiety. In today’s commu nication landscape, much of work-related interaction is, in a way, very public. One-on-one interactions have been replaced with virtual meetings where everyone is, quite literally, on display. Yet, in a way, the pandemic has made people lazy communicators, lackadaisically logging on to the weekly staff meeting in their sweatpants, cameras off, watching Netflix on the side.

Siefkin’s clients, no matter the industry, all have one common goal: to use their knowledge and expertise to achieve higher levels of success, whether through career advancement, or by becoming thought leaders. For her, one of the greatest points of pride is seeing an introverted professional come out of their shell, getting past the self-limiting beliefs and internal barriers that are holding them back.
“I love watching that transformation as they become some body who’s confident, persuasive, and essentially the version of themselves that they never thought they could be,” she says.
Preparing for Anything Siefkin starts her one-on-one coaching by having the person watch themselves communicating on video. While often jarring for her clients to realize how they come across on camera, it serves as a jumping off point. “It’s important to be vulnerable and share my own missteps. Much of what we see in the media looks polished and perfect, but they don’t show what’s on the cutting room floor, only the finished product,” Siefkin says of sharing her own experiences with clients.Herexpertise extends to group workshops and media train ing. Siefkin often works with international companies to train how to successfully present to Western audiences. She has been a resource for individuals and companies in every sector, from law to technology to real estate to healthcare.
“Everyone wants to be the first person thought of for a key note speech, to be a guest on a podcast, to be the expert that’s invited in to speak to a different department,” says Siefkin, who trains entrepreneurs how to become the go-to experts in their fields, and how to communicate effectively and stay on brand.
Siefkin’s company (www.kristysiefkin.com) aims to teach people to refine their communication skills and reestablish good habits that have, in some ways, gone by the wayside in recent years.“We’re tapping into the principles of human persuasion, the way our brains work, the way that we process information, what makes stories and information stick, what makes us pay attention to some things, what makes us ignore others,” Siefkin says. “I truly believe that there aren’t any bad speakers, just people who have not tapped into their potential and haven’t yet been properly trained.”Siefkin believes that everybody can benefit from becoming a better communicator, particularly in a work culture where virtual meetings and AI are becoming the norm. There was a time when the experience, the credentials, the titles were enough to guaran tee career advancement or job success. Often, people who have all of these wonder why they’re not getting the attention or the opportunities. According to Siefkin, it’s usually because they lack either the confidence or the training to communicate well.
“The world has opened up. Virtual communication has become the standard. You can’t hide anymore,” she says. “The ability to communicate well, to get your point across authentically and effectively, isn’t a soft skill, it’s a necessity. What makes you stand out is making that human connection. If you can communi cate compellingly, you improve your career options, you can raise more money for your business, you’re closing more deals and getting the attention you deserve.”

When she’s not coaching, Siefkin can still be found emcee ing and volunteering for youth and animal charities, and giving keynote addresses — practicing what she teaches.

“I stopped giving concerts, but I was certainly still putting on a show,” she says. “I planned on a career in sports broadcasting or operations at that point, until an anchor explained it would take years on the road to pay my dues before working here in earnest.”

“I, however, was a concert giver,” says Grefsheim, who played the saxophone throughout her youth. By her senior year at Corona del Sol, Grefsheim was among the leaders of the marching band. “To most of my friends, my claim to fame to this day is when I was named the homecoming queen and proudly accepted the crown in my band uniform,” she says. After graduating in 2009, Grefsheim attended Arizona State University. While she did not march in the band, Grefsheim continued to perform throughout college and after graduating, first as an intern with FOX 10 and then as a member of the Rally-backs, Arizona Diamondbacks’ in-game entertainment crew.

As the president of Risk Resource, Ian Sachs has advised thousands of clients on the importance of succession planning and risk management. It is one of many skills and life lessons that his father, Nate Sachs, taught him about preparing for the future while focus ing on things that matter in the present. After attending college at Indiana University and spending time working at a marketing firm in Chicago, Sachs moved back to Arizona to join the family busi ness in 2015. “It was always my intention to join my dad in the business. “My personal style completely depends on where I’m going; I must match the scene,” she says. Not one to ever repeat an outfit, Meyer’s style flexes from chic to bohemian to inspired by Britney Spears and growing up in the 2000s. “No matter what, I strive to always look put together,” she says.
Since her entire closet is from thrift stores, Meyer doesn’t pay close attention to brands, instead focusing on unique pieces and high-quality fabric. “The items that were trendy a couple months ago end up at Goodwill or Plato’s Closet, where I find them and transform them into a new trend.”
“If I walk into a room and don’t feel like I’ve outshined everyone else’s outfit, then I’ve done something wrong,” she says.
How does travel inspire your style? I’ve loved European fashion since I visited Vienna, Austria, for the first time. Vienna has a huge fashion district and I remember thinking “One day, I’ll dress like that.” Fast-forward a few years and tons of thrift store hauls later, I’m dressing like the chic ladies in Austria.
Looking back, Meyer recognizes that her 12-year-old self was and still is her style muse. “She lived for a good blazer,” says Meyer who now elevates her blazer game with jeans, heels and costume jewelry thanks to her grandma’s extensive collection.
What are your favorite colors to wear? Right now, I’m living for neutrals and various shades of brown and white. I’m also in the middle of an anti-dark clothing phase. What is your must-have fashion item? My shoes! I probably have more than 45 pairs of heels. An outfit is simply never complete without a good pair of heels. I’ve always lived by my personal motto, “Start with the shoes, and build your outfit from there!” I truly always pick out my shoes first. JOHNSTONE

Inspired by Kramer’s vision for the organi zation, Rogge joined the chapter’s council and is now the president. Her aim is to increase mentorship of young talent and provide oppor tunities for members to collectively give back, starting with a three-day volunteer program benefitting Chrysalis this month.
“For many, necessity is the mother of invention. For me, it was the mother of reinven tion,” Rogge says. In 2010, Rogge took a bartending job at Troon Country Club, initially as a stopgap. Thanks to a mentor-minded manager, Rogge found she had a knack for cocktail creation. Over the next several years, she honed her craft behind the bar at The Phoenician, The Scott, The Boulders and more. By 2018, Rogge launched her own business, Red on the Rox, through which she consults on cocktail menus and leads at-home spirit tastings and workshops.

After graduating high school, Rogge initially set her sights on the stage, studying performing arts at the University of Texas at Arlington while working two jobs before moving to the Valley to change course, first becoming a flight attendant and then a sought-after cosmetologist. She worked for Nordstrom, Dior, Chanel, and Lancome until the recession stalled the industry.
“Bobby’s legacy is one of sharing and giving; something we can all do for ourselves and in his memory,” Rogge says.
“My mom is from Ireland and dad is from Germany. Are there two more ‘spirited’ coun tries?” Rogge says. “It’s a wonder it took me as long as it did to get into the industry!”

When nights tending bar became more fulfilling than days in the classroom, Asher left ASU to pursue hospitality full time.
Upon graduating, he continued working in San Francisco before moving back to Phoenix in 2008. Once home, he mentored under Gio Osso at Blue Note Cellars and Beau MacMillan at Sanctuary, absorbing critical lessons about presentation, preparation, and financial consid erations as it relates to hospitality and elevated cocktail program development before taking a leadership position with Young’s Market in 2009. Over the next seven years, Asher devel oped cocktail programs in partnership with more than 600 venues statewide. In 2016, Asher launched his own brand in Barter & Shake Hospitality with partners. The team’s first concept was UnderTow, an immer sive cocktail bar housed in a fictitious 19th Century clipper ship. “Then in 2019, we opened Century Grand, which until last year featured two con cepts in Platform 18, a cocktail bar inside a replica turn-of-the-century Pullman train car, and Grey Hen, which looks like a 1920s pharmacy and prescribes cocktails,” Asher says. When the pandemic hit, Asher used his architectural background to combine all three concepts into one building with the help of Wes James of Line Lab. Looking ahead, Asher will launch new experiences within all three concepts in coming weeks. While exact details are under wraps, architect-of-adventure Asher teases that a jour ney along the Louisiana Bayou, cocktails served in ostrich eggs, and bioluminescent offerings will figure prominently into the reveal.

“I immediately wrote my business plan for a cocktail bar,” Simon says. “Exactly zero inves tors were interested, thinking the plans were too complicated and it would certainly fail.”
Most kids talk about being teachers, movie stars or veterinarians when they grow up.
“I was not most kids,” Ross Simon says. “I’d pretty squarely settled on being a barkeep by ageSimon,10.” a native of Scotland, worked at his aunt’s coffee shop as a young child in the Auld Country before graduating to her restaurant nearby around fifth grade. He loved watching the bartenders there, becoming one himself at just 17. By 19, he moved to London on his own to immerse himself in the city’s emerging cocktail culture.
Undeterred, Simon took a series of bar positions and then a specialist role at Southern Wine & Spirits. Eager to push the mixology movement forward, he co-founded Arizona Cocktail Weekend in 2012. “Finally in 2014, nearly a decade later, I opened Bitter & Twisted,” he says. The revolutionary concept put Arizona on the cocktail map, earning coverage from Food Network and kudos from Tales of the Cocktail, which is the Academy Awards of alcohol. Bitter was only the beginning. In 2019 he partnered with fellow cocktail guru Aaron DeFeo on Little Rituals, which was recently named a top four hotel bar in the country. He also developed the concepts for Lylo Swim Club in 2020 and Don Woods’ Say When in 2021.“We’ve arrived,” Simon says. “Once known mostly for cactus, Arizona is now earning credit as a drink destination as well.”

“In 2005, I decided to bring all I learned to the United States to open something of my own. Most European industry folks were migrat ing to San Francisco or New York, but I wanted to plant roots somewhere that I felt I could build something from the ground up,” Simon says. After a visit to Arizona, he decided it would be home.

“Prior to moving here, I worked in health care. I specialized in supporting individuals with disabilities and had exactly zero hospitality experience,” Fairrington says. “Initially I took server jobs, first at Boston’s in Tempe and then at Cold Beers and Cheeseburgers in North Scottsdale, to get by while I settled into life in the desert.”AtCold Beers one day, Fairrington was put on the schedule with Ritchie Moe. “Richie, I learned, was one of the first true mixologists in the Valley. It took all of one service together to inspire me to get behind the bar for the first time,” Fairrington says. Moe took Fairrington under his wing, men toring her in the basics while encouraging her to spread her wings when the time was right.
“He supported me when I took a role at Chelsea’s Kitchen in 2016 and then at Century Grand in 2019, where I met the other major mentor in my life in Jason Asher,” Fairrington says. “Between the two of them – heroes to me – it feels like I’ve been in a master’s program in mixology over the past several years.” Feeling truly supported, prior to the onset of the pandemic, Fairrington got involved in Speed Rack, a national high-speed bartending competition designed to highlight up-and-com ing females in the industry and raise funds for nonprofits.“And now that we are moving into the post-pandemic world, I’ve made my next big move: accepting the role of Onyx bar lead earlier this year,” says Fairrington, who debuted her first signature cocktail menu for the venue this past summer and is weeks away from the release of her fall menu in mid-October.

“Cocktails came later.” After graduating, Boggs studied at Florida State University before working at a handful of restaurants in both front of house and back of house“Inroles.1998, I began work at my first fine dining concept in Lili Marlene’s, then a top Orlando eatery,” Boggs says. “Until then, it never occurred to me how deeply food, wine and spirits were interconnected.” Inspired and eager to soak in every morsel of knowledge as it related to the pairing of food and drink, Boggs worked nearly every position in the restaurant over the course of several years.“By the early 2000s, I was ready to take things to the next level,” says Boggs, who moved to Arizona in 2003 and enrolled in the Scottsdale Culinary Institute to study restaurant management.Upongraduating in 2004, Boggs took on a laundry list of leadership roles at the Melting Pot, Donovan’s Steak & Chophouse, Sicilian Butcher and more, working his way into man agement while developing cutting-edge cocktail menus and running food and beverage teams. “I have been doing this for 26 years and I still learn new things almost every day,” he says. “Every project presents new challenges and only with experience and hard work can those challenges be overcome.”
In addition to his teaching career, one of Tzelepis’ greatest accomplishments was creating his solo exhibition Raised, which premiered at Phoenix Center for the Arts in April 2015. Prior to its premier, he also previewed a doezen pieces from the show in the Gazi district in Athens, Greece, the year before.
“After taking my first class I knew I was going to get my degree in studio art with a concentration in metalsmithing,” he says. “Whether teaching or making my own work, or some combi nation of both, I knew I wanted to do this for the rest of my life.”
“I have always tried to keep things simple and clean. Line, form, symmetry, and texture of all my designs reflect my passion for redefining both the art and function of jewelry-making,” he says. After completing his Master of Fine Arts at Arizona State University, Tzelepis took a position at New York University in 2006. A year later, he applied and accepted the position to be the metals department head at Phoenix Center for the Arts in August of 2007.

When Tzelepis was headed to Skidmore College, he had no idea what to study until his mom encouraged him to take some art classes as a freshman.
And so far, Tzelepis has been doing just that. He went on to become a professional artist and has been creating as a minimalist metalsmith and jeweler for 26 years.

“If you make haute cuisine; you better offer haute cocktails as well,” says Gilbert Lopez, bartender at Sel. “We want guests continuously wondering what we will dream up next, and we always want to outdo even ourselves.”Caviar Dreams ($45) is among Sel’s boldest displays of drinkable decadence to date. “This opulent offering was born when we sought to expand our caviar portfolio at the restaurant. We were sampling brands, and I got thirsty but didn’t want a traditional champagne or straight vodka pairing,” LopezItchingsays. for something equal parts tart, sweet, bitter, herbal, and refreshing to balance the saltiness of Royal Ossetra Caviar in particular, Lopez and his team developed a house green juice using cel ery, apple, lime, lemon, ginger, and parsley to serve as a base. “We then made a thyme simple syrup to act as an earthy bridge between the tart sweetness of the juice and the refreshing light spirits, Square One Cucumber Vodka and Hangar 1 Buddha’s Hand Citron Vodka,” Lopez says. After a hard shake, the contents are strained into a bucket glass over a large ice cube. “We top it with a creamy foam we make with Kaffir limes, pink peppercorns and coconut milk before finishing the build with a small spoon piled high with the cav iar,” says Lopez, who recommends guests sip the cocktail, take a nibble of the caviar, then take a second sip to experience the layers of umami flavor on the palate.

So I had four years of culinary school in France, worked in a restaurant for seven years after that and then said, what's next? Where did that lead you? I joined the Ritz-Carlton Grand Cayman in 2006, spent a few years at the Ritz-Carlton in Naples, most recently was the executive chef at the Ritz-Carlton in Marina Del Ray and now here I am in Arizona. What do you think of Arizona? The sunsets are incredible, and the scenery is beautiful. It’s all new and I love discovering new things. Do you have a favorite food memory? It was Christmas and I think I was 8 years old. My dad had a friend who was a butcher in a small town in the south of France who made everything, like charcuterie and pate, from scratch. That night he made leg of lamb. It was super simple, but roasted to perfection with rosemary and olive oil. All the kids were going for the sweets and candies, but I kept going back to that lamb. Do you have favorite ingredients? I love everything, but especially seasonal ingre dients like artichokes and colorful ingredients like purple radishes that are playful on the plate. Anything readers would be surprised to know? I love motorcycles. I’m excited go on road trips and explore Arizona.

Located directly north of the flagship restaurant in a 3,300-square-foot space that shares the same parking lot, B&B Cocktail Lounge is meant to be a more inti mate Bourbon & Bones experience. Dark and romantic by design, the cen terpiece of B&B Cocktail Lounge is a nearly wall-to-wall bar made from black-and-white granite. There are black and brass fixtures and pendant lights hanging from above, offer ing just enough light to see the menu but not so much that it interferes with the spirit wall, which is backlit so that each bottle appears to glow with an amber hue. Contemporary by design, there are both gray leather uphol stered booths along the walls as well as stand-alone tables and chairs, each with tiny glowing candlelight to add to the ambiance and charm. The bar has the ability to open –thanks to sliding glass doors – along its east side toward the patio when the weather is nice, but even when open, it does not inter fere with the atmosphere inside.

Dreamy, dimly lit B&B Cocktail Lounge debuts in Old Town Scottsdale
Both the dinner and cocktail menus echo the sophistication of the space. The dinner menu is divided into four quadrants, starting with its raw bar and sushi offer ings where the options include Oysters with Strawberry Mignonette and Atomic Horseradish, Wagyu Carpaccio with Shaved Parmesan, and several sashimi and sushi roll combinations. Guests can also order from the salad and shared plates sections.Asthe largest section of the menu, the share plates offerings are equal parts tapas and modern twists on steakhouse clas sics. Options include a New York Flight, which is a steak-themed tasting flight with side-by-side cuts of U.S.D.A. Prime Beef and Wagyu ($72), Steak Au Gratin ($18), and Bone Marrow with a plantain-squash medley and crostini ($30). The menu ends on a sweet note with seasonally inspired desserts that change regularly. Not to be outdone, the cocktail menu is one for the ages. There are nearly two dozen signature cocktails ranging in price from $18 to $30 as well as two spe cialty sections – Barrel-Aged & Smoked Cocktails and Reserve Cocktails – with options up to $300. Standouts include the Tequila Manhattan with Patron 10-Year, Capano Antica and Mexican chocolate bitters ($150); and a French 75 with Dom Perignon and Louis XIII ($300). The menu also features more than two dozen bottled beers, rare whiskey and bourbon selections from around the globe, 11 different whiskey flights, and more than 100 wines by the glass and bottle.
