Welcome to the July issue of The Town.

The feedback on our first edition, published last month, was incredibly positive. We received fantastic outreach from the residents of Summerlin, our primary distribution area, and from everyone who came across copies of the magazine throughout the Valley. It affirmed what we already knew—Vegas is hungry (and thirsty) for new magazines.

Our mission is to be hyper-local and to cater to our neighbors and friends who live, work, play, eat and party in Summerlin, and adjacent areas. Every month, we strive to uncover the best: people, food, fashion, entertainment and drinks.

The pages before you delve into Summer Style and what that means to our favorite Tastemakers around “The Town.” Leading the charge is Summerlin business owner Penny Chua from Lotus of Siam. I have known this woman for over a decade and am continually impressed with her as an entrepreneur, daughter, mother and trendsetter. I recently discovered she has an impressive collection of Hermès bags, accessories and clothing. Chua is one of the brand’s top clients, and she shares a glimpse into those goodies in her cover feature “Pretty Penny.”

Lotus of Siam celebrates 25 years in November as one of Las Vegas’ most highly lauded restaurants thanks to Chua’s mom, Saipin Chutima, who won the James Beard Foundation Award for Best Chef Southwest in 2011. The family opened their Summerlin location at Red Rock Resort in 2022 and will be reopening their Commercial Center location in early 2025.

Within this issue, you will also meet other Tastemakers who live, work and play in the area—when you see them out and about, make sure to say, “I saw you in The Town.”

Brett Robillard strives to strengthen communal ties by designing human-centered places

For Brett Robillard, an architect’s role goes beyond designing for necessity. It’s about shaping spaces that create joy. He believes that architecture and interior design, when well-executed, have the power to impact our everyday lives and enhance the human experience.

“When I was about nine, my dad took me to a Boston Bruins game in the Old Boston Garden. It was electrifying. I fell in love with architecture at that moment,” says Robillard, studio director and principal of Gensler Las Vegas, a global architecture, design and planning firm. “What was weird is that I didn’t fall in love with

the building. I fell in love with how the building made people feel.”

The Boston native’s father drove a cement mixer for a living, introducing him to construction early on in life. His dad encouraged him to become an architect, and he became enamored with it. He attended Roger Williams University in Rhode Island to pursue his passion. Today, with a career spanning 29 years and counting, his architectural ambitions have opened doors for him to collaborate on projects worldwide from Boston to Shanghai and now Las Vegas.

Community-Driven Design

Around Las Vegas, he’s collaborated on several high-profile projects including Fontainebleau, The Bakkt Theater at Planet Hollywood, The English Hotel and the RTC Mobility Center. He’s especially proud of his contributions to the facility where people with mobility or vision impairment learn to access transit service safely and live more independently.

“I’ve designed many different things, and I love entertainment projects but the RTC Mobility Center is one of the most rewarding projects,” he says. “It is a great community-driven project. There’s a canopy that features a unique pattern emblematic of Braille. We sought the endorsement of ‘Blind Connect’ to ensure

it was appropriate. While the building would still be theoretically successful and functional without it, the pattern creates aesthetic layers that enrich the human experience and tell a story.”

When asked how he balances functionality and aesthetics in his architectural framework, he explained that there are two schools of thought. First, there is the common standpoint: Form follows function. Second, Robillard argues that it doesn’t always need to be that way. For example, he says, The Shops at Crystals is a spectacle that isn’t a standard form following function design but works and is an urban sculpture.

“Something can be beautiful, engaging or impactful and not be hyper-functional. Most people can get behind the form follows function approach because it is rational, but there’s also another side, a hidden intangible. I feel that architects have a responsibility to embed projects with a poetic aspect tied to the experience of any space. I try to balance the two facets.”

Shaping the Future

Although Robillard has lived in several areas of Las Vegas, he now calls Summerlin home, gravitating towards the location for its proximity to the Spring Mountains. While he expresses concern about continued sprawl in the Valley, planned communities and the development of Downtown Summerlin provide various experiences that foster community spirit. He says he can now bike, shop or attend a baseball game within a 10-minute trip. There’s a range of activities in Summerlin that bring people together.

Robillard looks to his hometown, Boston, as a source of inspiration. Boston has a wealth of history, and Robillard expresses that Las Vegas is still in its infancy. Through his architectural lens, he envisions strengthening a sense of community and walkability. According to him, the city needs mixed-use developments and greater density.

“When you look at more mature cities, where land is a bit more costly and harder to come by, the traditional streetscape would have retail or a gallery, and then above that, there might be a business or a residential unit. The streetscapes are a promenade of life and create the vibrancy of an authentic urban context,” he says.

Las Vegas may be a younger city, but that isn’t necessarily negative. There’s room for growth and development, whereas historic enclaves might be reluctant to change their perspectives. This old-school mentality can stifle creative projects seeking innovative ways to redefine what architecture means. This city is unique because it’s not afraid to take chances or stand out. When Robillard worked in Boston, there was often a mantra of “why”? When he moved to Las Vegas, they asked, “why not?”

“I’m very confident that so long as we are careful about our environmental resources, Las Vegas will continue to mature and become more resilient. I think it’s a place to test ideas and I hope it stays that way,” he says. “Gensler is not just here to build objects; we’re here to build things that are meaningful in the long-term arc of our community. It’s really important to us and I think about it every day.”

Faith, family and future athletes serve as inspiration for Olympian Vashti Cunningham

American track star, Indoor Champion high jumper and Red Bull athlete Vashti Cunningham is heading to the 2024 Olympics in Paris. The Las Vegas native and Bishop Gorman alum qualified for her third games during the trials in Eugene, Oregon in June. Hailing from a family of renowned athletes, she gets her competitive spirit from her dad and her graceful stride from her mom.

Her father, Randall Cunningham, knows firsthand what she’s going through as she prepares for the world’s stage. As a former NFL quarterback, pastor and coach, his invaluable guidance helps her stay on track.

“To have him not only as my coach but as my dad and pastor, I have the best of [all] worlds. I don’t think I would be where I am now in my career if God hadn’t blessed me with him as a father. I take what he gives me and hold it close to my heart,” she says.

In her youth, Vashti practiced ballet with her mother, Felicity de Jager Cunningham, a professional ballerina who attended the Dance Theatre of Harlem. Although Vashti no longer dances, she credits her ballet background for her high jump success.

“Sometimes I wonder if I would be this good if I didn’t do ballet because my mom is a graceful woman and how she teaches is hardcore,” she says.

When she’s not working, Cunningham is a fashion aficionado. Rocking a vibrant wardrobe, the Olympian has a keen eye for style. She considers her mother an influence because she always “pops out with something new and different.”

“I love to go consignment shopping. I found some spots in the Arts District I don’t tell anybody about,” she says.

Cunningham takes mentoring young talent seriously. She strives to be the best version of herself as a role model for aspiring athletes.

“It’s important that we are presentable and mentally ready to speak in front of a camera because we know who’s watching,” she says. “We are all aware ... and working to be the best we can be for the younger people out there.”

Meet the man behind the best stories in town

It shouldn’t be this easy to get genuine answers from a Las Vegas publicist. But Alex Acuna, Station Casinos vice president of public relations and digital strategy, is nothing if not authentic. Our Friday afternoon chat after a Red Rock pool photoshoot contained no spin or superlatives, just genuine love for his hometown.

A native Nevadan raised in Las Vegas since infancy (technically, he was born in Reno, but we won’t hold that against him), Acuna was exposed to the city’s hospitality industry early on—“My mom worked in race and sports, my dad was a dealer”—and landed his first job at 16 as a lifeguard at Bellagio’s pool. Since breaking into resort PR at Mandarin Oriental (now Waldorf Astoria), Acuna’s fingerprints are on some of the most widely publicized openings of the last 15 years: The Cosmopolitan in 2010, the Palms relaunch in 2018 and, most recently, Durango in 2023.

“Vegas gives people opportunity, Vegas rewards your work and that’s what I love about this city,” he says. “When people travel, they want to go where the locals go and I love introducing newcomers and tourists to that side.”

“The restaurants, shops, entertainment: I love the excitement on people’s faces when they’re captivated by what they’ve seen here,” he says.

Acuna has seen it all, having grown up watching the West boom into the “burbs.” With no shortage of things to do and places to go, he’s a regular at popular Summerlin spots like Gina Marinelli’s La Strega and Life Time Fitness.

“You can always find me at Gardens Park. It’s the most diverse park I’ve ever been to,” he says. “I spend a lot of time between Red Rock and Durango. There’s not a place you can go without running into someone you know.”

On Friday night if he’s not at home or work, he’s at “Osteria Fiorella at Red Rock or Fiorella at Durango. We alternate between the two,” Acuna says of where he frequents with his husband Tyler.

When faced with the most challenging question you can ask any local, he goes for the original response yet again: “What Las Vegas band are you blasting with the windows down? The Killers, Imagine Dragons, or Panic! at the Disco?”

“The Killers, always,” Acuna says.

Playing it close to the classics, Robert Gamch possesses an iconic casual look

Like his fashion icons Pharrell, Robert Redford and James Bond, Tao Group VP Robert Gamch keeps his ensembles clean and chic. He opts for monochromatic looks, often wearing all black in various fabrics. An amazing pair of sneakers is another essential part of his fit.

“Slick, simple and clean,” he describes his style. “I always wear all black, from a black shirt, bomber jacket or leather jacket. And always a great pair of kicks; right now, it’s Jordan 1 Low or Travis Scott’s Jordan 1 Low [shoes].”

This look has evolved from a love of labels in his school days: “Rocking Tommy Hilfiger overalls and backward hats with my Gap hoodie in middle school [made it seem] like I knew what I was doing at an early age,” he says with a laugh.

Now, Gamch sources his laid-back wardrobe from Talentless, G-Star, Zanerobe, Suitsupply and AllSaints. As a golf fan, he also looks for brands that make a statement on the course, such as G/FORE.

Above all, “whatever makes you feel happy and confident” is his ticket to a welldeveloped sense of personal style.

In his off hours, Gamch travels and spends time with his family. Working with Tao Group means that he understands the power of curating quality, whether through an attractive fit or a night on the town.

“Creating experiences and giving access to guests is what we do [at Tao] to help with all of those memorable moments people have,” he says.

Do you follow any personal “rules” for your wardrobe? Black and never wrinkled.

What makes an outfit timeless? [One] that you can wear every day and feel comfortable.

What is your next purchase? A nice pair of dress shoes.

Exuding freedom and fun with her unique sense of style, Angela Ciciriello completes her look with confidence

Angela Ciciriello knows that developing one’s style is a linear journey.

“Fashion, for me, has always been the art of presenting oneself to the world and is ever evolving,” says the Las Vegas marketing executive, who specializes in developing brands within the restaurant, sports and entertainment industries.

A lifelong love of fashion has allowed Ciciriello to develop a stylish and optimized wardrobe. To create her ideal outfit, Ciciriello chooses essentials that exude confidence.

“I believe that wearing clothes with self-assurance makes any look feel intentional. I pay attention to fit and proportion, choosing pieces that complement my curves,” she explains. “Feeling confident in my outfit is non-negotiable.”

Ciciriello works to maintain an “effortless vibe,” where her outfits appear polished but not overdone. A layer of meaning behind her looks is also a necessity, where her outfits tell a story.

“I prefer styles that combine modern trends and classic pieces, often with a rare, story-filled adornment,” she says.

What’s your favorite season to dress for? Summer. Something about sun-kissed shoulders and wearing a destination dress or resort wear makes me feel alive and blissful.

What’s a current fashion trend you’re loving right now? The rise of sustainable fashion is absolutely a trend I can get behind.

What is the most worn item in your closet? The least worn? Most worn: [my] mid-century black onyx and diamond ring. Least worn: I don't hang onto pieces that don't vibe with me anymore. If it's not getting worn, it’s off to find a new home.

After decades of cultivating a legendary restaurant in Las Vegas, Lotus of Siam owner Penny Chua exhibits an exacting eye for quality in every facet of her life

A city of culinary greats, Las Vegas has a long compendium of restaurants that are legendary, however most end up in the history books. Few places possess the staying power that spans generations and even less can say they have made it 25 years, won a James Beard Foundation Award, are owned and operated by AAPI female entrepreneurs and prioritize staff as if they are family.

In this town, there is only one, Lotus of Siam. Owner Penny Chua says the efforts of her mother Saipin, the creator of Lotus and its executive chef, to live her American dream of owning a Thai restaurant (“She knows her stuff, but she’s very passionate about her culture”) taught her lessons well beyond a traditional business degree.

The original Lotus of Siam opened in November 1999 on East Sahara inside Commercial Center, when Chua was a preteen. At first, she shunned the restaurant business and aspired to become a lawyer, however fate had other designs.

Through Lotus of Siam, Saipin’s northern style cooking quickly gained a devoted following and she is credited with opening America into the “Northern” world of Thailand, away from the Bangkok style. Lotus’ menu consists of hearty herbs and spices, along with Thai style stews and coconut-less curries. In 2008 and 2010, Saipin was nominated for Best Chef in the Southwest by the James Beard Foundation, winning the prize in 2011.

Watching her parents work in the restaurant and seeing the potential vulnerabilities of the industry, the fiercely protective Chua eventually knew there was no other course and jumped into the family business. Her top priority is to foster a culture of equity and respect among the staff and guests.

“My restaurant is unlike the ones you see on TV,” she explains. “It’s never one of those toxic [environments with] hostility when people go into work. Our kitchen is very different. Our work culture is different. We treat everybody like family.”

In 2017, Lotus opened a second location on East Flamingo and in 2022, finally made the jump to the West with a stunning new restaurant inside Red Rock Resort, another highly revered family business, owned by Las Vegas natives Frank and Lorenzo Fertitta.

“We always wanted to do it,” Chua says, “but I felt like we weren’t fully ready yet. We wanted to make sure we standardized the procedures properly.”

By setting up a Red Rock Resort location, loyal customers are able to enjoy their favorite Thai cuisine closer to home.

“It actually has helped us a lot,” says Chua. “We have guests who live in Summerlin who say ‘we miss your food but it’s just so far.’”

Chua designed the Red Rock Lotus of Siam to model an authentic Southeast Asian setting. She created an escape to make diners feel like they had been transported out of Vegas.

“Whenever I go to the countryside of Thailand, where my mother is from, this is

what I normally see. I want to bring that culture to Vegas. I want guests to go inside and feel like they’re in another place,” she says.

Overall, Chua appreciates the culinary diversity of Las Vegas. It’s a short commute to visit different restaurants as opposed to Los Angeles, where traveling to hunt down international dining can take hours.

“The city is such a melting pot,” Chua says. “[Different cuisines are] readily available within a 20 or 30 minute drive. It’s not like California, where if you want to go get Ethiopian [food], you have to literally go to the heart of Downtown. Or if you want to eat Korean food, you would have to go all the way to K-town.”

She enjoys seeing the progression of the culinary scene through events such as The World’s 50 Best Restaurant Awards which chose Las Vegas as host city in 2024 and an influx of James Beard Foundation Award nominations.

“I think it’s super cool for our city,” says Chua. “We used to hear people say that Vegas wasn’t the food destination, but I think they were severely wrong.”

Outside of work, Chua spends time with her husband and daughters who are ages three and two. The family loves snowboarding, and she will introduce her kids to the slopes soon. She says that being a mom in Las Vegas is a completely unique experience.

“With kids, it’s a whole vibe,” says Chua. “You’re really just living life for them. Watching them grow is like a brand new hobby for me.”

Her other past time is collecting leather goods from French heritage brand Hermès, with whom she has a long-standing relationship. Chua has an impressive assortment of Birkin and Kelly bags.

Her Birkin bags—which equal well over 20 years of adoration—earned her a trip to New York City in June. Hermès invited

her as part of a exclusive customer event, where she joined other brand devotees.

“I‘ve been in love with Hermès for a very long time. Hermès has always been around me. My family in Asia covets brand names. Everybody either had one, two or a lot,” she says. She says her favorite from her personal collection is the green crocodile. “In New York, I met so many people who have a passion for the bag, who love it and who are collectors themselves. I actually purchase and support Hermès because of how they treat their staff.”

She is continually impressed by their ethics as an employer and mirrors those standards in her own business, noting that according to the Hermès US president, “the employee retention rate is about 96 percent and the reason why they have the

4 percent is because they retire. Those are amazing numbers, impressive.”

Chua’s employees receive health insurance, dental and vision and other benefits, a rarity in the restaurant industry. She says they even extend personal no interest loans to Lotus employees who are impacted economically by unforeseen life events, in some instances, forgiving the loans.

“We’ve always advocated for trying to do better for our staff,” she explains. “To have a flourishing business, your staff must be happy too.”

On the horizon, she definitely needs those dedicated employees as she hopes to get the keys to the all-new Commercial Center location of Lotus of Siam before the year is out, with a prospective opening date in the first quarter of 2025.

The Las Vegas pool scene heats up with five fantastic aquatic experiences dedicated to locals

From convenient locations to overall comfort, the authenticity of off-Strip pools makes you feel at home. The Westside, of course, is the best side for random pool getaway days. Here are this season’s winners and a couple closer to the Strip, but still worth the drive.

Now that summer has arrived, Bel-Aire Backyard is your new backyard, a suburban oasis that’s alluring day and night.

Bel-Aire Backyard hails from longtime Vegas operators Clique Hospitality, whose off-Strip successes include Palace Station’s Tailgate Social and Durango’s Mijo Modern Mexican Restaurant. Clique also does The Pool House at Pendry San Diego, so they’re bringing some serious pedigree to the suburbs.

Eat Me: Bel-Aire Sushi Yacht! (spicy tuna roll, green goddess roll, seared salmon roll) Drink Me: Miami Vice (Piña Colada, Strawberry Daiquiri, layered with 151 float)

Picture this: It’s Friday, 2 p.m., and you’ve just blown off whatever Zoom is on your calendar. What kind of people schedule calls on a Friday afternoon? Now it’s time to hit up Bel-Aire Backyard where you’ve reserved a cabana for your three besties (and more if you want; the large cabanas hold up to 12), and you’re treating yourselves.

After a round of Havana Club mojitos and the “Bel-Aire Sushi Yacht!” from nearby Backyard Grill, you’re ready to turn it up until the sun goes down. In a throwback to the week-ending pool parties of Vegas in the aughts, Bel-Aire hosts “Recess Fridays” from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m., cranking up the dance beats for that dayclub feel. Fortunately, it’s not as messy as those Strip bashes you’ve heard about and it’s priced right for locals.

JW MARRIOTT LAS VEGAS RESORT & SPA

Once you step onto the JW Marriott pool deck for the first time, you might ask yourself why you haven’t ever been here. It’s because secrets are for keeping and this town already has enough gossip. Now that you know, you can choose whether to keep the secret to yourself or bring a plus one when you blow off work completely to enjoy some quiet time together.

Eat Me: Avocado Angus Burger

Drink Me: Rampart Lemonade (Citron Vodka, lemonade frozen or on the rocks)

JW Marriott keeps it nice and breezy, with less emphasis on loud—no DJ stage or bottle service parades—instead leaning into the brand’s luxury elements. If you’re here, you’re here to get pampered and take selfies by the waterfall. The Waterside Café menu boasts poolside favorites—everything from fish tacos to the all-beef 10-inch hot dog—and the drinks are delightfully tropical. We need to see more places put the Lava Flow on their menus.

What makes JW especially appealing is Spa Aquae. You can spend all day at the pool if you want, but if you’re in the YOLO mood, treat yourself (and someone special) to a spa day pass. You’re worth it.

ROUGE ROOM CABANAS AT RED ROCK CASINO, RESORT AND SPA

Even with the 20th anniversary around the corner, Red Rock Resort shows no signs of aging. In fact, the Rouge Room Cabanas might be keeping us younger. Summerlin’s premier hotel-casino boasts a luxe adultsonly pool area with cabanas, daybeds and all the privacy you need to blow off the day and (responsibly) soak up the sun.

The pool and cabanas are an extension of Red Rock’s indoor-outdoor Rouge Room, a live entertainment lounge that debuted in 2023 and easily became a scene to be seen on the Westside. Though, if you’re an OG, you’ll remember when the venue was Cherry. Oh, if those walls could talk.

Don’t sleep on Red Rock’s resort pool. It’s got just as much luxury (and sunshine) as the Cabanas, with a centerpiece pool fountain, poolside gaming and the always reliable Sandbar Grille. The latter has plenty to fill you up, from breakfast to sandwiches to sushi rolls, but it’s the Mega Dole Whip Sundae that’ll put a smile on your face. It’s served in a pineapple boat!

SAMMY’S ISLAND AT PALMS POOL

Like Red Rock, Palms holds a special place in the hearts of locals who have grown up with the ever-evolving off-Strip resort. The pool, which once gave us “Ditch Fridays” and countless Real World cast sightings, is now home to the all-new Sammy’s Island stage and concert venue. Conceived in partnership with musician Sammy Hagar, the Island is hosting a nighttime All-Star Jam concert series throughout the summer, with Creed’s Scott Stapp and Sugar Ray’s Mark McGrath among those tapped to perform. Contemporary Ex-votos: Devotion Beyond Medium, presented by the Marjorie Barrick Museum of Art, features Latinx artwork in conversation with America’s largest retablo collection. Until November 23, explore how modern-day artists illuminate understudied Mexican ex-votos, also known as votive retablo paintings. Traditionally, a retablo is an altarpiece artwork with scripture or religious figures on it, like patron saints. What makes them special is their spiritual significance, and they are often handmade with whatever art supplies are available. Dr. Emmanuel Ortega, a Marilynn Thoma Scholar and Assistant Professor in Art of the Spanish Americas at the University of Illinois, curated this groundbreaking exhibit with the assistance of the New Mexico State University of Art Museum, which preserves the retablo collection.

In this initiative, Latinx visionaries reclaim their origins by infusing their own complex nuances into innovative works. Contributors who responded to NMSU’s retablo collection include Justin Favela, Eric J. García, Francisco Guevara, Dan45 Hernandez, Juan Molina Hernández, John Jota Leaños, Guadalupe Maravilla, Yvette Mayorga, Krystal Ramirez, Sandy Rodriguez, Xochi Solis, Daisy Quezada Ureña, Alfredo Vilchis, Daniel Vilchis and José Villalobos, Ariella Granados, Daisy Sanchez, Zully Mejía and Elena Brokaw.

The exhibition includes pieces from Las Vegas-based artists Brokaw, Mejía and Sanchez, and a video by multidisciplinary Chicago artist Granados, expanding on Dr. Ortega's New Mexicobased selection. Brokaw’s photography installation, “(from) his Eyes,” features red carnations and around 200 photos from her father’s photography collection, shedding light on his tragic assassination. Mejía weaves nostalgic photographs into vivid paintings, correlating the pressures of personal obstacles with the complexities of heritage and immigration. Sanchez’s work commemorates her parents’ fortitude, especially her mother, who demonstrates family loyalty through persistent domestic duties.

Artists in this showcase consider ex-votos cultural contexts through a fresh perspective, reflecting on themes such as labor, colonization, religion, immigration and ancestry. For example, Ramirez focuses on the realities of immigrant labor in contrast to Las Vegas’ shiny veneer. Favela addresses the creative repurposing of commercial city signs by Latinx businesses. Additionally, García delves into how the martyrdom of St. Luke and sociopolitical dilemmas influence wage earners today.

2024 LEXUS LC 500H

A grand tourer of extravagance

There is something to be said about the indulgent novelty of a genuinely exceptional performance coupe, especially when it happens to be a Lexus LC hybrid. A performance hybrid – is that even a thing?

Performance coupes are supposed to be powered by an engine with massive amounts of horsepower and that’s true for the base LC with a 471-horsepower, 5.0-liter V-8 paired with a quick-shifting silky smooth 10-speed automatic transmission at a base price of $99,800.

Tested here is the LC 500h, a hybrid V-6 that combines gas and electric systems for a substantially lower 354 horsepower yet starts at a base price $6,000 higher. What does the hybrid have that the V-8-powered LC is missing? For starters, excellent fuel economy of a combined 29 mpg compared to just 18 mpg combined for the V-8.

Regardless of engine choice, neither of the LC models are exceptional performance cars when compared to segment competitors, such as the Porsche 911, Mercedes GT, or BMW M8. The larger and heavier LC is honed for luxury rather than performance.

The entire cockpit encompasses passengers in an intimate way as the ambience casts a spell them. That isn’t to say the LC isn’t thoroughly enjoyable around town or shockingly good with a sporting intent when desired. Just switch the car into Sport+ mode for improved responses when carving twisty canyon roads.

Speed isn’t everything. Sure, it’s quick enough but not quick enough to match its looks or rivals. Skip the pricier hybrid and opt for the 471-horsepower, V-8-powered convertible for roughly $3,000 more.

LC is offered in two body styles: coupe or convertible. The LC hybrid tested here included the $3,200 Bespoke Build that allows buyers to configure it with a mix of different options, colors, and lots of carbon fiber including the roof and rear spoiler to go with a palette of unique colors. Most noticeable on the tested Bespoke LC was the Alcantra-trimmed interior in Toasted Caramel leather with satin metallic trim and a suede headliner. With the combined Ultrasonic Blue Mica 2.0 exterior, the spectacularly stunning color combination is dazzlingly exotic and a magnet for drooling stares and questions.

Nothing goes better with early eating than day drinking, thanks to their Cereal Cocktail of the Week (shown the Froot Loops Cereal Cocktail). These libations use classic sugariffic breakfast cereal such as Frosted Flakes, Captain Crunch and Froot Loops as their base. The cereal is muddled with milk, sugar and vodka to extract the flavors. The mix is shaken and stirred before being strained into a coupe glass. Marshmallow fluff and a bottom-of-the-box crunchy rim take it to the next level of nostalgia and flavor.

In the kitchen with Adam Rios of Al Solito Posto

Adam Rios has spent the last 20 years working in kitchens up and down the Las Vegas Strip, from Fleur de Lys at Mandalay Bay to Rose. Rabbit. Lie at The Cosmopolitan. In 2022, he transitioned off the Strip as executive chef of Al Solito Posto at Tivoli Village, created by James Trees, of Esther’s Kitchen in the Arts District fame. Within this short time, he has finetuned crowd-favorite recipes and pushed the boundaries of traditional Italian-American food by using seasonal ingredients. From presenting meals he’s experienced on his travels to looking to local chefs for recipe input, Rios brings a mix of methodology and creativity to the Westside staple.

Is it challenging to only do Italian cuisine?

With a lot of the restaurants in my past [like Sage at Aria], I could mix cuisines and cultures. The nice thing [at Al Solito] is an opportunity to learn and delve into Italian cuisine. It’s a challenge, but the lane is not as narrow as I initially thought. I’ll make a new dish as simple as possible, then break it completely apart [to find] the core components and get inspired to create something completely different. It’s not just spaghetti, meatballs and red sauce.

What’s the most essential tool you keep on hand in your kitchen?

Clarity. You must be clear with everybody and create a clear culture of what you want [in the kitchen]. We have to respect everybody. It’s a tool for creating the team you want to have long-term.

What’s the best meal you’ve ever had?

Some of the best meals I’ve ever had are when I’m sitting on a plastic chair on a sidewalk in Vietnam or in Singapore in the middle of a monsoon. It’s those moments that give the most unexpected results. You don’t expect some mind-bogglingly good food in the most unusual places.

Are there any culinary trends you want to see come back?

I’ve always been partial to gastropubs [and] good bar food. I miss the idea of doing casual food really well.

Fast-casual meets healthy at Bronze Café, where the salads, sandwiches and sweets have secured a loyal following among locals throughout the valley. Chef James Trees’ Tivoli Village Italian spot differs from his Arts District restaurant, Esther’s Kitchen, in one main way: its focus. Where Esther’s has a West Coast energy, Al Solito Posto (“the usual place” in Italian) is a tribute to the East Coast Italian cuisine that dominated Las Vegas during the Rat Pack’s heyday. ANIMA BY EDO

Anima is the second restaurant by the team behind the award-winning Spanish restaurant EDO, which includes repeat James Beard Awardnominee Chef Oscar Amador. While a few dishes cross over between restaurants, the new place has a distinct menu with a stronger Italian and Mediterranean influence. Prices are a solid value for food of this caliber. LA STREGA

Chef Gina Marinelli gained her local fame on the Strip, running celebrity chef Scott Conant’s D.O.C.G. in The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas. After leaving that position, she traveled to Italy’s Amalfi Coast. It’s those travels that inspire this restaurant. There’s no chicken parm on this menu. Instead, you’ll find lots of seafood, light pasta, delicious pizzas, steaks, chops and game meats. Fun Fact: The restaurant’s name is Italian for “The Witch.” 3555 S. Chef Marc Vetri is a Philadelphia culinary legend who operates a brilliant fine-dining restaurant atop the Palms.

BASILICO

Located within the southwest’s Evora community, Basilico courts locals who appreciate the nuances of a stylish, modern dining room, inviting outdoor patio and unique vision of modern Italian cuisine. Sicilian-born Chef Francesco Di Caudo, who won Chef Of The Year at Ferraro’s and a James Beard Award nomination at Anima, transcends expectations with avant-garde technique, unexpected ingredients and original presentations. But he keeps it all grounded with respect for the basics, particularly pizzas and pastas. ADA’S FOOD + WINE

The most experimental restaurant, by superstar chef/restaurateur James Trees (Esther’s Kitchen, Al Solito Posto), Ada’s, sometimes feels more like a workshop than a fixed concept. For now, Chef Jackson Stamper seems to be having fun mixing his takes on traditional Spanish tapas with unexpected comfort foods. His Red Rock restaurant is more approachable, or as he puts it, “a little bit more red sauce-y.” You’ll find lasagna al forno, rigatoni with sausage ragu and bucatini pomodoro alongside some amazing pizzas and more exotic pastas like Swiss chard tortelli in a sage brown butter sauce. MONZU ITALIAN OVEN

Chef/owner Giovanni Mauro operates Monzu in the space that once housed his mother’s landmark restaurant, Nora’s Italian Cuisine. The food here, however, is a bit more adventurous—inspired by the chef’s travels to Italy. Rectangular Roman “pizza alla palla” is offered alongside unique takes on Sicilian classics: heirloom pumpkin with chicken gizzards, lemon leaf stuffed with meat croquettes, milk-poached whipped salt

Paymon Raouf opened the first incarnation of Paymon’s in the early 1980s as a small deli near UNLV with a table, two chairs and to-go food for students. Today, the Westside location is a favorite for Greek, Mediterranean and

If you’ve been in Las Vegas for a reasonable amount of time, you may have experienced Italian cuisine by Chef Marc Sgrizzi, who has over four decades of culinary experience. He previously helmed Marc’s Italian Steakhouse and Chef Marc’s Trattoria and now he’s set to wow us again with Sgrizzi by Chef Marc. His experience with fine steaks shows and he serves cuts of beef 20 days wet-and-dry aged. The room emits a warm vibe with dark hardwood, decorative tile flooring, tan-hued booths and chairs, and hanging Edison lights. There are also two chef’s tables and large TVs above the bar.

Highlights of the menu are Utica Greens (escarole) with hot cherry peppers and grated cheese baked bread crumbs; Pork Chop El Chico (one of the chef’s signature dishes) pan roasted with hot and sweet peppers; Capesante (Sea Scallops) served on cauliflower puree; Pasta Salsa di Piselli Con Pancetta (casarecce pasta with English peas puree sauce and pancetta); and meat options of NY Strip, Ribeye, Veal Piccata and Dry-Aged Tomahawk.

The new venture is something of a family affair. The adjoining café/market/bakery, dubbed Caffè Su Napoli, features the creations of Chef Marc’s nephew, Roman Ritz, who spent time in Naples. He is putting that experience to good use—turning out the restaurant’s desserts (Rum Baba, Lemon Sorrento, Crema Pasticcera and more) while offering house-made pastries, sandwiches, gelato, tarts and espresso drinks in the Caffè. –By Bob Barnes. Border Grill, BBQ Mexicana infuses U.S. barbecue with Mexican spice in a casual, quick-service setting. After years of serving local sports fans at T-Mobile Arena, Allegiant Stadium and the Las Vegas Ballpark (and conventioneers at Mandalay Bay), it now offers burritos, bowls, tacos and salads on Sunset Road. Dom DeMarco’s is a descendant of the famous Di Fara Pizza in Brooklyn, offering square Sicilian and round Brooklyn-style pies in the Queensridge/Peccole Ranch neighborhood. Pizza lovers can whet their appetites with eggplant pizzettes or the ever-popular garlic knots, while those who just aren’t in the mood for pizza can choose from several pasta dishes. Chef Giovanni Mauro is kickin’ it old school here with classic round pizzas. This is the same chef who wowed us with square Roman pizza at his upscale restaurant Monzu. In this more casual pizzeria, he uses that same dough, crafted with a 300-yearold Neapolitan sourdough starter and fermented for five days. He also offers ultra-premium toppings and some very upscale sides. Not up for a whole pie? This small aquatic-themed restaurant in a strip mall across from Desert Breeze Park offers fresh seafood in a quiet neighborhood setting. Thaiborn chef/owner Jack Jarukasem formerly ran culinary operations at the Rio (which once had the best seafood buffet in town) and his experience shows. The raw bar menu has a large rotating selection of oysters and other delicacies. Cooked dishes include pan roasts, steamers, boils and some excellent clam chowder. 3220 S. Chef Sam Marvin’s Tivoli Village spot offers a full-fledged butcher/restaurant combination. Harlo is what you’d get when you take an indulgent, modern steakhouse from the Strip and transplant it to Downtown Summerlin. Chef Gina Marinelli (the creative force behind local Italian favorite La Strega) offers fantastic cuts of beef from around the country grilled over an open flame alongside pasta, side dishes and seafood. The crown jewel of the Palms restaurant portfolio, Scotch 80 Prime is one of the most elegant, sophisticated and delicious steakhouses in Las Vegas. SiriusXM Studio creates a new platform for Las Vegas personalities to reach the world

As the sports and entertainment capital of the world, Las Vegas is known for its residencies, production shows and as the host of the 2024 Super Bowl. Now, with the opening of the state-of-the-art SiriusXM Studio at Wynn Las Vegas, the city adds broadcast hub to that list of accolades.

The programming lineup at the SiriusXM Studio in Las Vegas is a diverse mix, featuring everything from music and comedy to sports and news, bringing listeners closer to “what happens in Vegas.” It all kicked off in June with John Mayer doing a special episode of his show “Life with John Mayer,” where he plays his favorite songs and takes phone calls from listeners around the country. Mayer is performing with Dead & Company at Sphere in Las Vegas through August 10.

The studio at Wynn Las Vegas will be home to original content as well. First up is a new show hosted by legendary rapper Flavor Flav. “Flavor Flav’s Flavor of the Week” recently made its SiriusXM debut on LL Cool J’s Rock The Bells Radio channel. Flav spins tracks from classic hip-hop artists and shares stories from his music career as founder of Public Enemy, his

experiences as a TV personality and more.

“I started my music career on the radio as DJ MC Flavor,” says Flav. “That was the beginning of both Flavor Flav and Public Enemy. I did things that had never been done and have never been duplicated since. It’s been some years since I’ve hosted a radio show. I’m so excited to team up with SiriusXM to bring y’all a new Flavor.”

We think Las Vegas is the perfect city to highlight the latest in entertainment trends and current artists and we are glad SiriusXM agrees. This location joins SiriusXM’s broadcast studios across North America, including its headquarters in New York City’s Rockefeller Center; Washington, DC, facilities in the heart of the nation’s capital; West Hollywood studios, featuring the Los Angeles performance space “The Garage;” Miami studios in South Beach; and a newly located hub in Nashville.
