UPCOMING EVENTS January 31 Club Monthly Meeting
Club Officers: President: Rich Whitlow rwhitlow@gmail.com
Letter from the Editor/President 2018 is starting with a bang! Unfortunately, the weather has been a little hard on the flying. We are all ready for some nice flying conditions, so that we can enjoy our wonderful facility.
Vice-President: Drew Roussea drewmrousseau@gmail.com Secretary: Lamar Stevens lamarcstevens@gmail.com
Since the last newsletter we have had some strides at the field and some events at the club. We have had the work day to complete Phase 1 of our electricity project. That included digging the trench (very deep!) for the conduit, assembling the conduit and burying it in the trench. We are now ready for the next phase in 2018, getting the job finished. We also voted our officers back in. I appreciate your support and confidence that we can continue to improve the club and promote the RC hobby.
Treasurer: Larry Feiss ldfeiss@gmail.com
We have met with BREC on the needs of the new Highland Road FPV Park and Farr Model Air Park. BREC has re-confirmed their support of the club and their satisfaction with the BREC/Red Stick partnership and the accomplishments the partnership has achieved. One of the other items that we discussed, is the renewal of the agreement of our partnership. This agreement will add the Highland Road FPV Park and reset our 5-year term.
Redstick RC Club meets on the last Wednesday of the month (except December) at Jones Creek Library at 7:00 pm Farr Model Airpark is located approx 2 miles south of Brightside Ln. on River Road
We work on 5-Year term that we can renew at any time. So, we start a new term and will work to extend it again. We have been given a sanction for our own IMAC Competition in May. This will be great for Baton Rouge and for South Louisiana. We hope to promote this event and create a better and better event every year. We have our Monthly meeting on January 31rst. If you paid your dues before December 15th, we will be handing out the T-Shirts at the January meeting. If you can’t make it to the meeting, you will need to arrange to pick them up from one of the officers. Also, make sure if you haven’t renewed, you do it by the January meeting or you will have to pay the $20 late/initiation fee. I am looking forward to this year and I think we will have a great one. Please get out and enjoy the field, and help if you can.
Till next month. Rich Whitlow Cover Photo By: Rich Whitlow

Treasury Notes
Treasurer: Larry Feiss In reflection, 2017 was a very successful year for the Red Stick RC Club in both membership and financial security. We ended 2017 with 78 Regular members / 92 total membership and a reserve balance of $6,498.00 The 2018 membership drive beginning in October 2017 was very successful in helping the club develop and finalize and Expenditure Plan early in support of our priorities and financial means. Currently, our membership consists of 54 Regular members / 74 total. Our 2018 income to date totals $16,932 and is comprised of the following: > Renewals $7,295 > Donations $2,979 > Apparel $160 > 2017 Reserve Balance $6,498 We forecast our 2018 expenditures to total $14,085. In order to carry over $5,000 into 2019 in supprt of the Club’s financial security, we need to acquire, as a minimum, 18 additional Regular members which equates to $2,340. Corresponding to our budget, the following highlights our major expediture priorities: We will continue to look for opportunities to optimeize and minimize our expenditures whenever possible in order to make additional enhancements.
Thank you for your support

Red Stick Work Day
By: Rich Whitlow Steve Blanchard and I got an opportunity to go out to Zacchary and see a great Control Line Stunt competitions. This is an area of our hobby that I have not had any experience with, in years. And only with the old .049 Cox models, as a kid. Brent Rogillio was a gracious guest and gave us some great insight on the competition.

Safety Corner
Lamar Stevens/Rich Whitlow There hasn’t been much that has been going on at the field, with all of the cold and wet weather. But, that doesn’t mean that we can’t plan for safety for the upcoming year. Those planes that are sitting and haven’t been flown or looked at for a while, need some attention. Now is the time to look over those airplanes, make checks on all the joints, test and inspect all of the electronics and control horns. Make sure that everything is working as it should and there is no slop. Another important part of the airplane system is the batteries. Test your batteries and replace, if necessary. Don’t fly with a puffed lipo! Take some time in the cold and wet and make sure that those aircraft are ready when the weather gets good. A little sound winter maintenance, could prevent an incident in the future. Have a fun and safe time

Meeting Reviews
Meeting Date: July, August & September We only had 2 meetings this quarter, as December is our month off. We ended the year at 92 members. This was a great thing, it shows the club is growing and moving in a good direction. The field committee has been keeping the property in great shape. The events committee reported that we had a successful Fall Fun Fly, and we even made a little money. The club had a work day and completed Phase 1 of the Electricty project. We had a great turnout and accomplished a lot of work! We also finished up the Shelter. We put on the trim and finished putting a BUNCH of screws into the roof. The shelter is solid and will be there for many years to come. We also brought in some more River Silt on the North side of the runway. It has a first run of grading and we are waiting for some good weather and the field to be dry enough to compete the task.

Also, we had nominations for 2018 officers. The current officers were nominated. President - Rich Whitlow, Vice-President - Drew Rousseau, Secretary - Lamar Stevens, Treasurer - Larry Feiss. We will have the elections to make it official at the January meeting. We appreciate the clubs support and everyone’s willingness to serve the club. It was also announced that the Club will be hosting the First Annual 2018 IMAC Bayou Challenge. It will be the weekend of May 12th weekend. We will need food and help for the weekend and everyone is invited to try IMAC. Everyone was reminded that the dues will be due at the January meeting and will be strictly enforced. Anyone going beyond that date, will have to pay the initiation/late fee. Lots more was discussed and we encourage you to make the meetings!

Highland Road FPV Park News Highland Road Committee Chairman - Greg Rozas Good news out of the Redstick Highland Road FPV Park: The club members have been getting together and building some great racing tracks almost every weekend when the weather is nice. We usually have 5-10 new people stop in to watch and inquire about quad racing and drones in general so the racing tracks have been generating a lot of local Baton Rouge buzz! Randall “Big Money Grip” Gripper’s tracks have really gained popularity amongst the Drone Racing crowd including popularity amongst pilots all over the country. We sincerely hope to make the BREC / Redstick park a model FPV park for other FPV chapters as well as local city parks to follow. One of our new Redstick members, Wes “RRUReady” Comeaux has recently made top ten MultiGP rankings in the nation with his Universal Track Times. Wes has qualified and will be heading back to the hugely successful MultiGP sponsored Sebring Race in Florida where he will be competing for a prize purse of over $40K with Pilots from all over the country.
Red Stick R/C Club
If you want to really see what drone racing is like, stop by on any Saturday or Sunday, strap on some goggles, and fly with Wes as he battles it out with his fellow New Orleans top nationally ranked competitor, Corey “C-Train” Yates. Grip has also been setting up a beginner track each week to help less experienced guys try out their quads. As always, if you have some gear and want help getting it setup and flying, the local members are always willing to help out! Feel free to email me at greg@rozaslaw.com or randall.grip@gmail. com to find out when we will be out there or with any questions, park or quad related. We are planning several MulitGP events over the next six months and are trying to plan a big mutliregional event in coordination with the Lafayette/ Acadiana and New Orleans chapters. As we get more information, we will update the club at the upcoming meetings. We hope to be meeting with BREC in the upcoming weeks to discuss plans for the FPV park throughout the new year. Hope to see more members come out and give quad flying a shot,, so charge up some batteries and come join us.

Red Stick R/C Flying Club
2017 Club Manual and General Information The Red Stick R/C Club is a non-profit, AMA sanctioned club, organized for the purpose of securing and maintaining a flying field and facilities for the operation of radio controlled model aircraft. Our fields are South of Farr Horse Park on River Road and on Highland Road across from the Highland Road Tennis Center. Our Flying Club was formed in 1986. We maintain a membership of 90 to 130 and currently have no membership limit. We have an annual slate of friendly competitive events and an annual Club picnic. Some of our members compete at the national level and have placed well in national class events. Club meetings are held on the last Wednesday of each month (except for December when there is no meeting) at the Public Library on Jones Creek Road, at 7:00 PM. Meetings are open to visitors. Many meetings will feature a guest speaker, workshop, or program of general interest. Many of the members are qualified and available to assist student pilots in learning to fly. New members who want assistance are introduced to members who can help out. Some of these members have special “Training Cords” which enable compatible transmitters to be slaved to the instructor’s transmitter creating a dual control setup. This will let you learn faster with less risk of crashing. (Before buying any RC equipment, please check to see if the rig you think you want is compatible with a trainer port configuration. All the local hobby shops offer equipment that is compatible if you request it.) Although the flight line is open to members seven days a week, the best time for a new visitor to meet us at the field will be on Saturday or Sunday mornings when the weather is good. You can count on a good turnout on those days and plenty of help getting started. Also, there will be dedicated trainers on the 3rd Saturday of each month. In order to fly at our field (even while learning to fly), you must either, a) be a current member of the AMA (Academy of Model Aeronautics), or b) participate in our Introductory Pilot Program. AMA membership packets are available at the field, or through the AMA’s web site at http://www.modelaircraft.org. If you are trying to decide whether R/C flying is right for you, you may be eligible to participate in our Introductory Pilot Program. This special AMA sponsored Program permits you to learn to fly for up to 30 consecutive days prior to joining the AMA. Our Club maintains a list of Introductory Pilots and Instructor Pilots. This is a fun hobby, and one that can provide you with a lifetime of enjoyment, challenge, and great friendships. Please feel free to speak with any of our members at the field, or you may contact Rich Whitlow @ rwhitlow@ gmail.com. Please save this packet for future reference.
