While praying for our Zone Ministry on 02 July 2017, I had a mental picture of a cornfield. Some of the corn (maize) plants were fallen on the ground while others were still standing. It seemed that a heavy storm had just passed and gave rise to the devastated scene. As I later pondered, it came to my mind that those corn plants that collapsed were those with shallow roots, while the standing ones must had been held up by deeper roots. Immediately, a statement Pastor Steven made in a previous week’s message suddenly sprang up – “ We should not just grow big (referring to the church) but grow deep”. Wow! What an alignment! Later I did some reading up on the corn plant and came across an interesting fact in one article. The article says that corn plants are subjected to a condition called drought stress, which is a condition where the soil surface dries first and deeper soils hold moisture longer. Corn plants that have shallow roots may experience drought stress earlier than those with deeper roots. Drought stress gave rise to sub-quality crops and low yield. It dawns on me that the season of the end times is like a season of drought stress, where the top layer of soil surface dries up (probably a season where the Word of the Lord becomes scarce (Amos 8:11), those with shallow roots will not be fruitful and may fall when a storm strikes! Only those with deep roots will continue to draw the resources of God and stand tall at a time of tribulations and persecutions. Continue on Pg 5…
