Classic Greece The crucible of civilisation, democracy, theatre, and philosophy. Its blue skies, outstanding welcome and the zest for life inside every Greek are a true revelation. Greece is synonymous with antiquity, with Athens a city of intriguing paradoxes – ancient yet modern; a capital city, yet in places as intimate as a village.

DAY 2 – Acropolis This morning there’s a short panoramic tour of Athens including the Acropolis, one of the great ‘Wonders of the Ancient World’. Explore the Parthenon with its blindingly white marble columns. We also visit the Acropolis Museum with its amazing glass floor displaying ancient houses, streets and even an olive press below. We then head to the charming district of Plaka, crammed with neo-classical mansions, balconies overflowing with geraniums and twisting cobbled lanes lined with homely tavernas. After free time for lunch we drive north past Mt Pendeli and through Thebes, to Mt. Parnassus. (B,D) + Included Experience – Short panoramic tour of Athens, guided visit to the Parthenon and the Acropolis Museum. DAY 3 – Delphi Delphi is incredible, with a unique wealth
of monuments dedicated to Apollo. As we enter the sacred sanctuary you’ll see the treasuries which were crammed with gold and silver donated by grateful city-states for having the benefit of the god’s wisdom. Overlooking it all is the superb temple itself and below, in an underground chamber, was a geological fault which probably emitted mindaffecting vapours from deep within the earth. The adjacent museum has some of the finest exhibits, including the full-size ‘Charioteer’, a masterpiece of ancient bronze sculpture. In the afternoon we drive through a timeless Greek landscape of tiny, isolated villages, olive groves and rolling hills. We cross the huge spans of the new Rio bridge connecting the mainland with the Peloponnese and continue to ancient Olympia. (B,D) + Included Experience – Guided tour of Delphi V Signature Experience – After our day of discovery in Delphi, gather with fellow travelling companions before dinner to enjoy a glass or two of local wine accompanied with refreshments DAY 4 – Olympia The ancient Olympic Games took place every four years; the stadium had a staggering capacity of 45,000 and events included the discus and javelin, sprinting and wrestling. We’ll experience a fascinating tour of the site, also visiting the excellent museum. This
