the new building and construction event in Egypt
V
eronafiere flies to Egypt with its start up event MS Africa & Middle East The International Trade Fair for Stone Design, Technology, Earthmoving and Building Machinery (www.msafrica.net), scheduled in Cairo from 11th to 14th December 2014, that joins the two well-known brands of Veronafiere in the building sector, Samoter and Marmomacc, with the aim to strengthen their internationalization. The new ‘Marmomacc & Samoter’ event, promoted together with Art Line, the leading Egyptian exhibitions organizer, and ExpoLink, the Egyptian Exporters Association, aims to combine the entire natural stone chain, from stone quarrying and processing to construction site machinery,
through to the finished product: excellence in the building field will find a qualified audience of buyers including architects, construction companies, distributors, rental, professionals in the quarrying world and earth moving equipment from many African and Middle Eastern countries. Egypt has launched a series of major infrastructural development projects and, thanks to free trade agreements signed with many countries, offers zero duty export opportunities. The country attracts foreign investments and Italy is its first European commercial partner. Big companies - such as Eni, Italcementi, Ansaldo, Tecnimont, Danieli - invested in 2013 in several projects in Egypt.

LIGNITE ENERGY Lignite energy pulverized is a high-quality, low-sulphur industrial fuel in the form of dust made from raw lignite by drying and crushing. The very good combustion behaviour is explained by the very high share of volatile matter and the large inner surface. Operation is in closed systems, which achieves user convenience that is comparable with that of fuel-oil systems. A crucial advantage of LE pulverized - developed by RWE (exhibitor at Asphaltica 2014) - is the high price distance to conventional competing energies, like fuel oil and natural gas. “Today, many energy-intensive processes use over 3 million tons of LE pulverized every year,” the company says. “This is equivalent to more than 1.8 billion litres of fuel oil. Pulverized-fuel firing systems are marked by low space needs and high control rates. Costly measures to adhere to statu-
tory emission thresholds are not necessary. Retrofitting existing firing systems from fuel oil or gas to the fuel pulverized lignite is often by standardized components without expensive alterations to the firing system”. Besides its use in energy-intensive industrial processes, LE pulverized is also increasingly being deployed as a fuel to generate hot gas. Thanks to the much lower fuel costs, use of LE pulverized can be an interesting proposition upward of a furnace thermal rating of 2 MW already. LE is used in many process heat generation systems. The retrofitting of existing firing systems, usually involving a switch from fuel oil or gas to the fuel pulverized lignite, often simply means dismantling the installed burner and replacing it with a lignite-burner. Additional alterations to the drying plant are hardly ever necessary. Besides directly fired burners, it can be also used for indirectly fired systems. www.rwe.com 31

NEW VIADUCT The new viaduct Marchetti - in construction on A5 Motorway near Ivrea, Italy - is an innovative infrastructure made with a single arch bridge with the road running at low level, with a span of 250m. The roadway, which is suspended from the arch by suspension hangers, comprises two carriageways, each 14.5m wide, plus two hard shoulders measuring 1.35m and 1.70m wide, for a total of 17.55m in each direction of travel. The metal arch consists of a trapezoid body with a constant section, locked into the roadway at the shoulders via two triangular bases. The roadway - the road authority Ativa says - consists of the central chain girder, transversal beams positioned orthogonally to it, spaced 8m apart and of the 20cm thick reinforced concrete floor cast onto metallic prestressed slabs in a thickness of 4+1 mm welded to the oars. Twong is a patented, mobile fastening system for more traffic safety. It is a professional device for fast action and flexible use. Twong fastens visual barriers (in case of accidents and rescue operations), fences (to shield off dirt and dust from construction sites), warning and traffic signs (to secure hazardous sites, monitors, lighting systems and cables). The patented Dreikraft (three-directional)
technology ensures stability without using tools or drilling holes. The base on which it is fastened will therefore remain undamaged. Twong, developed by the austrian company Twong Engineering, can be mounted on all common traffic and safety barriers, and on concrete walls, etc. It is produced and patented in Austria. Besides, it is a registered design in Germany and the European patent is pending. www.twong.eu EC 446

OPTIMIZED HEAT TRANSFER Innovative heating plates by Bomag (Fayat). As standard the pavers screeds developed by the German company are heated with the Magmalife system, where the heating elements are cast in an aluminium block, making them highly robust and durable. With optimized heat transfer, Bomag Magmalife produces uniform heat distribution over the levelling plates and guarantees reduced heat-up times of only 20-30 minutes - effective savings of up to 25%. Magmgalife heating elements have been in use on the BF 300 finisher for four years now. Even after the routine replacement of the levelling plates after about 2 years, the heating plates can be reinstalled and re-used. www.bomag.com

The new bridge over the river Piave, in construction in Italy, is made up of two separate viaducts and can be considered one of the most complex engineering structures of the “third lane widening project” on the A4 Motorway network managed by Autovie Venete. Six seconds and 320 explosive charges to implode the old viaduct. A few seconds, a close series of dull thuds, a thick cloud of smoke and the old bridge has collapsed into itself, lying on the river bed. The piers and the beams one above the other, in a perfect domino effect, and the slab at the top. Behind these few moments, a long preparatory work, started at dawn and continued for an entire day, which has involved more than 100 people. www.autovie.it
REVOLUTIONARY ROAD SENSOR At this year’s Intertraffic in Amsterdam Lufft had two main purposes: first official presentation of the new mobile road sensor Marwis and introduction of the invasive road sensor IRS31Pro-UMB. Both targets were reached, what is noticeable especially with regard to the attention towards the Marwis. It is planned to produce a limited Marwis lot from autumn 2014 on until end of 2014 and sell them exclusively to customers who will thus be early adopters. Almost all copies of this limited number have already been reserved by letters of intent, which means, that the Marwis is almost sold out for the first production lot. Lufft customers got a Marwis 3D print model with the same weight and size as the original one, in order to thank them for their loyalty. Also most of the new interested persons asked directly for first –

mobile sensor which is able to measure 100 times per second. Brian Mulligan, the CEO of the software company Applied Information presented a program which can track the route and road conditions while measuring with the Marwis. “It is important to make the use of highly technical products as easy as possible,” stated Mulligan, who showed live measurements of roads in South Africa and the US directly at Intertraffic. It is planned to offer this optional software with the new sensor. But through the open UMB protocol clients can also simply connect their own (software) solutions. The compact and lightweight design will make the mounting of the Marwis to the vehicle very easy as well. A protective tube and the same durable material as used for ship propellers will protect the Marwis optimally against road dirt and salt. www.lufft.com
