NEW SCOTTISH BRIDGE
The Queensferry Crossing bridge will therefore be a main transport artery between Edinburgh and the northern regions of Scotland. More than 12 Liebherr cranes, including three Liebherr 630 EC-H 40 Litronic top-slewing cranes are involved every day in the Forth Crossing Bridge construction. Two Liebherr crawler cranes in full time operation support the tower cranes. The new bridge, which will be called the Queensferry Crossing and which sits alongside the existing Forth Road Bridge (FRB) built in 1964, is under construction to safeguard the cross-Forth M90 motorway corridor following concerns about the long-term viability of the FRB. The construction project began in early 2011 and is expected to be completed in 2016. The client is Transport Scotland, the Scottish Government’s transport authority. www.liebherr.com

At exactly 12.00 noon on last January 21, 2016, the final breakthrough in the west tube of the Ceneri Base Tunnel, in Switzerland, took place. Shortly after this last blast, the miners could shake hands, AlpTransit said. In the coming months, this will now be followed by lining the tunnel and installing the railway infrastructure systems. Focus on the the Sealmass M5 melting and sealing machine by Massenza. The machine enables two different activities to be carried out simultaneously: cleaning by heating the grooves or cracks, and the application of heated bitumen sealant. The first step is to treat the cracks using a thermal lance (hot-dog) with compressed air and flame. The compressed air removes dirt and debris, while the flame removes moisture and heats the sides of the cracks, “smoothing out the road” for the next sealant application. The sealant arrives at the roadwork site in blocks, which are put into the melting tank and heated using a hot oil system. A pumping system then directs the liquid sealant to the application lance and from here to the “shoe” and the nozzle. Finally, the “restorative” sealant is applied into the crack. TWO CONTRACTS IN SWEDEN The Italian company CMC Group di Ravenna (Cooperativa Muratori & Cementisti) has secured two contracts for the construction of two tunnels on the Lovon to Ekero section of the Stockholm’s ring road. The projects will be carried out in Joint Venture with “Vianini Lavori SpA”. The works will be starting in the next months and will be completed in approximately six years. The contracts have a combined value of approximately 3.7 billion Swedish Crowns, equivalent to approximately 400 million Euros. MODERN PROJECTS Austrian construction group Strabag, present at Intertraffic Amsterdam 2016 with the company Strabag Anlagentechnik, is modernising the A10 Oswaldibergtunnel for Asfinag, Austria’s national motorway operator.
The two tubes, each with a length of 4.3 km, will be upgraded between July 2015 and June 2017 to be state of the art; in particular, with respect to tunnel safety standards. The contract has a volume of euro 34 million. It includes the redevelopment measures in the fields of road construction, tunnelling and building construction as well as the reinstallation of the entire electrical and mechanical equipment (E&M). “For this project, our experience in various areas is in demand - therefore our specialists from construction, engineering and communication technology work closely together,” said Thomas Birtel, CEO of the Strabag Group. www.strabag.com
