Student Volunteer Social On Sunday, October 18, new and current student volunteers had the opportunity to meet and greet each other and enjoy a BBQ buffet. All who attended participated in icebreakers and shared volunteer experiences. A great time was had by all! This fun-filled event was coordinated by Beth Draper, volunteer coordinator, and Adela Raicu, student liaison.

Student Section • Remember to turn in your check-in survey, your personal service learning objectives, and your exit interview form. An appointment is required to sign off on your volunteer hours. • Have you enjoyed volunteering at the Jewish Home and Care Center, Chai Point or Sarah Chudnow Community this semester? Student volunteers are welcome to return for service learning for other courses without repeating volunteer orientation. Let Beth know if you’d like to continue volunteering. • We encourage you to continue volunteering after your service hours are complete. There is no specific time commitment or number of visits required. It means so much to our residents when they continue the friendships and relationships they have made with volunteers. Volgistics: What If... Daily Reminders: • Remember to log in each time you volunteer, change assignments, and leave for the day. • Check the screen to ensure you have entered the correct volunteer assignment. This will help the volunteer department maintain accurate records. • If you forget to log out, send Beth an e-mail with your logout time and the volunteer department will enter your time. Login Issues: • If you attempt to login and the screen is black, try touching the screen to see if the regular login screen appears. If the screen remains black, ask the JHCC or SCC front desk to let Beth know of this issue. • If you enter your PIN and the following screen asks, “Are you ‘0’?,” Volgistics is temporarily offline. Ask the JHCC or SCC front desk to call Beth right away, and she will work with IT to get the system back online. • In these situations, send Beth an email with the date, assignment and time you logged in/out, and the volunteer department will input the information for you.
Have you moved? Do you have a new cell phone number? If so, please e-mail me your updated contact information including: street number and street name, apartment number, and, for students, name of your residence hall and mailbox number (if you live in the dorms), PO box (if applicable), city and zip code. Cards, invitations, and other snail mail are sent out on occasion and we want to ensure that they are received. All volunteers must have a record of receiving a flu shot on file in order to continue volunteer service. If you have received your vaccine, submit proof of this ASAP. If you have not yet received your flu shot, JHCC offers free vaccines to volunteers. Make an appointment by calling 414.277.8876.
We are very interested in finding out when and which volunteers are performing friendly visits. Remember to login for each volunteer assignment you perform; especially friendly visits. If you are a student performing 20 or more service hours, Volgistics automatically adds two hours of service for your volunteer orientation.
