Overall Muskoka cottage sales slumped by 35% in the first 5 months of the year falling from 243 sales in 2017 to 158 sales in 2018. For the first 3 months sales were actually tracking on par with 2017, but April and May saw sales fall almost in half compared to the previous year.

The weather in April was dismal so it was not surprising to see sales fall off for that period, but weather wasn’t a factor in May - a month marked by more seasonal temperatures.

The number of available waterfront properties offered for sale remains exceptionally low and with buyer interest holding steady, well-priced properties are generating good activity.

It’s worth bearing in mind that although early sales numbers were low, we are coming off historical high activity in 2016 and 2017. In the last ten years the average sale figure is 175 - 2018 is tracking slightly off that.
