Opening Prayer Let us begin: it In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Let us pray that our prayer rise like incense in the presence of God. Almighty Father, strong is your justice and great is your mercy. Protect us in the burdens and challenges of life. Shield our minds from the distortion of pride and enfold our desire with the beauty of truth. Help us to become more aware of your loving design so that we may more willingly give our lives in service to all. We ask this through Christ our Lord. I' In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

The Word of God November 8, 2009 Thirty-second Sunday in Ordinary Time Mark 12:38-44 The Lord be with you. And also with you. A reading from the holy Gospel according to Mark. Glory to you Lord. + May the gospel always be on my mind, + on my lips, + and in my heart.

In the course of his teaching Jesus said to the crowds, "Beware of the scribes, who like to go around in long robes and accept greetings in the marketplaces, seats of honor in synagogues, and places of honor at banquets. They devour the houses of widows and, as a pretext recite lengthy prayers. They will receive a very severe condemnation." He sat down opposite the treasury and observed how the crowd put money into the treasury. Many rich people put in large sums. A poor widow also came and put in two small coins worth a few cents. Calling his disciples to himself; he said to them, "Amen, I say to you, this poor widow put in more than all the other contributors to the treasury. For they have all contributed from their surplus wealth, but she, from her poverty, has contributed all she had, her whole livelihood." The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

Then will the conduct of each one and the secrets of hearts be brought to light. Then will the culpable unbelief that counted the offer of God's grace as nothing be condemned. Our attitude to our neighbor will disclose acceptance or refusal of grace and divine love. On the Last Day Jesus will say: "Truly! say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brethren, you did it to me." 2444 "The Church's love for the poor is a part of her constant tradition." This love is inspired by the Gospel of the Beatitudes, of the poverty of Jesus, and of his concern for the poor. Love for the poor is even one of the motives for the duty of working so as to "be able to give to those in need." It extends not only to material poverty but also to the many forms of cultural and religious poverty.

Liturgical Calendar

The Advent Wreath The traditional Advent wreath consists of a circle of evergreens with four candles evenly spaced around the circle. The candles represent the four weeks of Advent—four weeks to prepare for Christ's coming. A fifth candle added in the center of the wreath on Christmas Day completes the wreath. The circular shape symbolizes God's love, which has no beginning or ending. The evergreens, symbolic of growth and eternal life, remind us of the everlasting life Christ gave us and of our continual spiritual growth.

The flame of the candles remind us that Christ came to bring light to the world and we are to take that light to others.

Three blue candles are used and one pink candle. (May use white candles and put blue ribbons and a pink ribbon on them.) The blue candles represent the royalty of Christ, our King, and the pink candle for the third week of Advent, represents joy at Christ's coming. The white candle represents the purity and holiness of Christ. Each candle has a name reflecting the Christmas events: prophecy, Bethlehem, angel and shepherd. Each week light the appropriate candles and talk about the name of that week's candle and what it symbolizes. Remember that you light the first week's candle and for the second week, you light the first candle and the second candle....and then the first, second and third, and then all of them and, on Christmas, you light the four candles and the white one in the center. MERRY CHRISTMAS!

CELEBRATION OF THE RITE OF ACCEPTANCE INTO THE ORDER OF CATECHUMENS AND OF THE RITE OF WELCOMING BAPTIZED INDIVIDUALS WHO ARE PREPARING FOR FULL COMMUNION IN THE CATHOLIC CHURCH THROUGH THE SACRAMENTS OF CONFIRMATION AND EUCHARIST. The Precatechumenate, where you have been inquiring about responding to God's love in the Catholic Church, will move into the Catechumenate in January. Through the Rites of Acceptance, those of you who have not been baptized will be called Catechumens; and those in the Rite of Welcoming—which indicates that you have been baptized—will be known as Candidates. The focus is now on Easter Vigil, where the Catechumens will receive the Sacraments of Initiation into the Church—Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist; and the Candidates— those who have already been baptized—will be confirmed and receive Eucharist. THE RCIA IS A FAITH PROCESS AS WE CONTINUE OUR JOURNEY TO THE RISEN CHRIST. The RCIA Team has walked with you in sharing Scripture, prayers and stories. If you want to continue on this journey of faith with us, we welcome you. We continue the same format of prayer, information and faith sharing in the Catechumenate as we grow closer to the Risen Christ. Sponsors are those Catholics—over age 16 and already confirmed— who walk with you on this faith journey. On November 18th all meet in the church at 6 :00 P.M., for the purpose of practicing for the Rites to be received at the NOON MASS, NOVEMBER 22, 2009. Sponsors need to be with you on November 18 WITH AND WALK TO THE sfr SANCTUARY STEPS AND THEY RETURN n1 for YOU the practice. YES,YOU SPONSORS TO THEIR PEWS. After the practice, Fr. Mike Creson, Pastor of Holy Spirit in Soddy Daisy, will explain the Mass to us. We remain in the church. No food served this night! Please be at the Noon Mass on November 22ND by 11:30 A.M.
