Welcome Fr. Mike Creson! Fr. Mike Creson has joined Our Lady of Perpetual Help as Associate Pastor. As many of you know, Fr. Mike was the pastor at Holy Spirit Parish in Soddy Daisy for the past 10 years. He is a fine man and wonderful priest. He will be a welcome addition to the parish and a tremendous help to Fr. Jim and Fr. Augustine. Fr. Mike will be in the parish office on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, as well as at some weekend Masses. He will spend the remaining part of the week in Winchester, Tennessee so that he can help his mother deal with her current medical situation. Please welcome Fr. Mike when you see him. We are very lucky to have him with us!
Haiti earthquake relief information A,nd Update on our Twin Parish in Haiti
The Catholic community of the U.S. is reaching out to our brothers and sisters in Haiti in significant and immediate ways.. Catholic Relief Services (CRS), the official international humanitarian agency of the U.S. Catholic Church, is mounting a • major emergency response to this disaster and has made an initial commitment of 5 million dollars for immediate use in the relief effort. Please keep those who are suffering in your prayers. If you were not able to contribute to the second collection today but would like to donate, please call 1-877-HELP-CRS, donate online at www.crs.org, or send a check to Catholic Relief Services, P.O. Box 17090, Baltimore, MD 21203-7090. In the memo portion of your check, please write: Haiti Earthquake. Our twin parish in Haiti, St. Pierre Claver in Dory, is quite some distance from the Haitian capitol, Port-au-Prince, where the recent major earthquake occurred. The parish did suffer some minor damage but luckily avoided any major problems. St. Pierre Parish now has a new Pastor, Fr. Daniel Lucien, and for the first time an Associate Pastor, Fr. Ingrid Antoine. Fr. Daniel has been communicating with Jeff Raabe, our OLPH contact for our twin parish, and he sends his greetings and continued thanks to the parishioners of Our Lady of Perpetual Help for all of our financial help and continued prayers.

Dear Volunteers and Supporters, The next Project Homeless Connect (PHC) will be held January 28, 2010, beginning at 9 at Doors will close at 3 p.m. We are excited to announce that Project Homeless Connect will be held this time at the National Guard Armory on Holtzclaw Ave. There is ample parking and space available to us for the event. As you know, Project Homeless Connect brings volunteers of all experience levels and backgrounds together to serve people in our community who are homeless, or at risk of becoming so. Project Homeless Connect provides direct services to people experiencing homelessness. We are able to do this because people Me you in our community are willing to volunteer their time and expertise to help their neighbors. A background in social services is not required to volunteer for this event — but you do need willingness to help, an ability to connect, and a sense of humor. For our third Project Homeless Connect we are planning to serve 350 individuals and families who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. In order to have a successful event, we need between 200 and 250 volunteers. Volunteers are the heart of Project Homeless Connect and there are many ways to become involved, including helping people check in for the event, escorting a client through needed services, or sharing a meal in the Connect CafÊ. Volunteers may be asked to attend a brief training and orientation session (times and places to be announced). Since the location and event layout is very different from last time, even returning volunteers will need to attend a training and orientation session. Please register by January 17, 2010 to volunteer. Volunteers can register online by going
to www.hboc.org and following the Project Homeless Connect link on the left side ofthe page. Project Homeless Connect welcomes and needs financial support imd contributions of in-kind items. If you would lice to make a financial donation (or if you have questions about volunteering) then please contact John Dorrk (dorrLLJ@bellsouth.net or 423-503-1876). To make in-lcind donations, please refer to the list of needed items and contact Beth Simpson (BedthWhanifronTN.gos or 423-2098336).
Thank you very much for supporting Project Homeless Connect.
