Health Ministry Palm Sunday recalls the entry of Jesus into Jerusalem riding upon an ass when his followers shouted Hosanna and scattered palms in his path. The Palm Tree refers to the Date Palm once so abundant in Judea and is now comparatively rare. The palm branches were used by Jews in token of victory and peace. The ancient Orientals made use of wine and honey obtained from palm trees. And the date is a carbohydrate food still used today. Some foods have higher concentrations of various nutrients than others. Choose your diet carefully by using these dietary guidelines: eat a variety of foods; maintain a healthy weight; choose a diet low in fat and cholesterol; choose a diet with plenty of vegetables fruits and grain products use sugars in moderation use salt in moderation. If you have an illness consult with your doctor. Healthy dietary changes need not be extreme. Your nutritional goals can be small realistic steps that ultimately lead to variety and moderation in your food choices. Visit the Parish Nurse link at myolph.com for current news and information.

“He emptied himself…” Let a Worldwide Marriage Encounter Weekend help you bear the daily crosses of your marriage/holy orders. The next weekend is August 27-29 in Knoxville. Call John & Manuela Ptacek 865-531-1719 for info. “Father if it is possible let this cup pass from me; yet not as I will but as you will.” Luke 22:14-23:56 Msgr. Winus Roeten says that when we are in prayer and we hear ourselves saying “No!” we probably just heard from God. Prayer is not so much about what we say to God, but about what we are willing to hear from God. When we are in true communion with God to discern his will for us He may ask us to do something difficult or unpleasant something we have not done before; something that may antagonize our family and friends; something involving financial or physical risk. And it is okay as Msgr. Roeten suggest if our first answer is “No1” but if we are good stewards of our prayer life growing constantly in our communion with God to discern his will for us we must ultimately say “Yes Lord!” Only a fool would want to accept the cup that Jesus knew was in front of him. Jesus was no fool. But Jesus was in full communion with the Father so he was willing to accept the cup to do God’s will not his own will. What are we willing to hear form God? Whatever our initial interest what will be our final answer. MASS ATTENDANCE Envelopes Offertory Children’s Funds Required Weekly Variance Year to Date Variance Diocese

Chrism Mass "The bishop is to be considered as the high priest of his flock. The life in Christ of his faithful is in some way derived from and dependent upon the bishop. The Chrism Mass is one of the principal expressions of the fullness of the bishop's priesthood and signifies the close unity of the priests with him. During the Mass, which he concelebrates with priests from various sections of the dioceses, the bishop consecrates the chrism and blesses the other oils. The newly baptized are anointed and confirmed with the chrism consecrated by the bishop. Catechumens are prepared and disposed for baptism with the second oil. And the sick are anointed in their illness with the third oil. The Christian liturgy has assimilated this Old Testament usage of anointing kings, priests, and prophets with consecratory oil because the name of Christ, whom they prefigured, means, 'the anointed of the Lord.' Chrism is a sign: by baptism Christians are plunged into the Pascal mystery of Christ; they die with him, are buried with him, and rise with him; they are sharers in his royal and prophetic priesthood. By confirmation Christians receive the spiritual anointing of the Spirit who is given to them. By the oil of catechumens the effect of the baptismal exorcisms is extended. Before they go to the font of life to be reborn the candidates for baptism are strengthened to renounce sin and evil. By the use of the oil of the sick, to which James is the witness, the sick receive a remedy• for the illness of mind and body, so that they may have strength to bear forgiveness of sins." "Rite oilhe Blessing of Oils' and Rite ofConseorating the Chrism" Decreed by the Sacred Congregation for Divine Worship
