We Show Up Spotlight

Congratulations to our Pastoral Care team on being named December's We Show Up Team of the Month. They kicked this month off by coordinating all the efforts for the Adopt-A-Family program at RMC, but they do so much more for our patients, colleagues and communities. The Pastoral Care team shows up by:

• Bringing compassion and guidance 24/7 to the 6,000+ patients who’ve come to RMC YTD, including traumas, code blues, deaths, notarizations, and routine pastoral care visits throughout the units. And supporting staff along the way!

• Leading an onsite, faith-inclusive chapel to honor all religions so everyone feels included and represented.

• Providing resources for our colleagues through the annual Adopt-a-Family program (42 families this year) and our RMC Food Pantry where any colleague in need can get food – no questions asked.

• Involvement in other events, including hosting the quarterly memorial services for bereaved families, MLK Jr Day activities, presiding over the Ash Wednesday service, Honor Walks, and blessing of hands during Nurses’ Week.

• Being a Pastoral Care team of many walks of life, backgrounds and faiths, which includes a director of pastoral care, full-time staff chaplain, 4 full-time residents, 3-5 part-time interns, 4 PRN chaplains, and a full-time coordinator. Thank you to everyone on this team for making a difference in the lives of our patients and colleagues by being a go-to resource when spiritual care is needed. Give thanks here!

Patient Testimonials: Santa Visits the NICU

On Friday, December 9, our tiniest patients and their families had a special visit from Santa and Buddy the Elf. Santa came to spread holiday cheer to our NICU families and during his visits to the NICUs across HCA Midwest. "It definitely gave me something to look forward to, something fun," said the mother of one infant. Our dedicated NICU care staff, however, was on hand to help and support all of our NICU families. Special thanks to Donutology and The Big Biscuit for donating the delicious food to our families and staff! Check out our recap Reel on Instagram and watch the KMBC News segment below.

Holiday Cards for Patients

Help bring a little bit of cheer to our patients over the holidays by giving a homemade Christmas, Hanukkah, New Year's, or general holiday card (or two or three). if you or your children would like to draw a picture or write an inspirational message, we will give to patients on their meal trays over the holidays. Thank you to Kelly and Jo in Pharmacy for bringing forward this great idea!

Please deliver your card(s) to Admin by Wed., Dec. 21.

Congratulations to Faustine who was named our Leader of the Quarter. Her nominator said "Faustine has come into her new role and made an immediate impact on both patient and staff engagement. The staff have been so complimentary of her leadership style and the support she offers them daily. They report the unit as much calmer with better teamwork. This is reflected in the patient engagement survey results for September. The unit was in the 93rd percentile, which is the highest score obtained on the question of staff working together. Since taking over the unit, Faustine has two quarters of improvement in the overall patient satisfaction scores on both of her units. Her consistency, calm nature and direct leadership have led to great improvement not only in her areas, but in the facility as a whole and I am happy to nominate her for leader of the quarter."

Where

Where is Pepper Mintstix?

Peppermint lattes are better than pumpkin when it comes to the morning grind. When you find out where I am, come change my mind.

Thank you to everyone who found me last week. I was hanging out in MOB Tower Lobby enjoying the Christmas tree display.

Where is Juniper?

No riddle for me this week for I’m working as we speak! While I’d love for you to come find me, I’m on a special, exclusive mission visiting a department to honor our caregivers. I’m here in Sarah Cannon Cancer Center to brighten the spirits of our cancer patients and their family caregivers in honor of National Family Caregivers Month. Though I might be willing to pass out a few coffee vouchers to our oncology staff who snap a picture with me.

Where was I last week? Hanging out with my gracious hosts in the SPO Gift Shop. Thank you for stopping by to say hi and I hope you purchased yourself a little treat.
