We Show Up Spotlight

The Pastoral Care team at Research Medical Center pulled off another successful Adopt-AFamily program this year with more than 1,200 gifts being given to 42 adopted families. We couldn't be more proud of how Pastoral Care managed this gift drive or how our colleagues came together to care like family for others in need. Thank you to everyone for their involvement in this special holiday event and for making spirits brighter for families and their Christmas mornings. We Show Up for our Patients

Patient Testimonials: Vanessa Wrench, Oncology

“My sisters call me a warrior because I don’t let things get me down, nor do I cry, give up, or think I am weak. I didn’t cry when I heard the diagnosis. I just had one question I kept asking. Why did this happen to me? I did everything I could to prevent this. Why me?”

Imagine doing everything you can to prevent breast cancer from happening to you - testing for the BRCA II gene and undergoing a double mastectomy and hysterectomy - only to discover 10 years later you developed breast cancer.

That's what happened to Vanessa Wrench, a 60-year-old mom, Kansas City native and "warrior." She didn't let this diagnosis defeat her. Instead, she got the help she needed by summoning her own strength and from the care she received from Dr. Jaswinder Singh, Oncologist at Sarah Cannon Cancer Center at Research Medical Center, to fight cancer head on. Make a Year-End Gift to Help More Students Like Sonya

After graduating high school, Sonya Vann immediately enlisted in the United States Navy. During her service, she became a petty officer second class hospital corpsman – a military nurse. She’s also worked as a licensed practical nurse. In both roles, Sonya served others. And both roles created a desire to continue serving others as a registered nurse. These experiences taught her about sacrifice. Sonya is now a single mother of three teenage boys and pursuing her education at Research College of Nursing. Since she heard she was the recipient of scholarships from The Research Foundation, Sonya has cried many happy tears!

Share the photo to our internal RMC Facebook Group or email to RMC.MarketingDept@hcamidwest.com for a chance to win a Coffee Shop Voucher courtesy of the Elves of RMC! Where is Pepper Mintstix?

I heard this team had the first ever BEE Award winner in July of this year.

So, I am down here to thank this hardworking team loudly for all to hear.

Thank you to everyone who found me last week. I was hanging out in the Coffee Shop drinking peppermint lattes by the gallon every half hour. Congratulations to the randomly selected winners of a Coffee Shop Voucher: Ashlan Martin, Tiavia Jones, and Keila Simmons!

Where is Juniper?

I have a song stuck in my head but I think I have the lyrics wrong.

If you know the song, come find me and sing along! "Goin' to the... Snapple... and we're gonna get married. Gee, I really love you and we're gonna get married. Goin' to the...Skedaddle... of love."

Where was I last week? Hanging out with the excellent care team of Sarah Cannon Cancer Center to celebrate our Caregivers. Congratulations to the randomly selected winners of a Coffee Shop Voucher who found me: Kim Anderson Carter, Denise Lechner, and Heba Pennington!
