We Show Up Spotlight

We are so grateful for how this team always rises to the occasion in difficult times. We're truly in awe of the teamwork and collaboration across all departments when we discovered that Meditech went down on Wednesday morning. While there are always things we learn from these events, overall our teams were prepared with downtime forms and processes. Through numerous huddles and WebEx calls, teams were helping one another resolve issues in real time and communicate their challenges. We’d also like to express a special thank you to everyone who assisted with all the manual documentation efforts that were required after our Meditech system came back up. We're grateful for everyone’s commitment and dedication so that we were able to continue to safely care for our patients and our community throughout the downtime.

To all teams involved, and to Patra Katsigiannis, VP of Operations, who led Incident Command, thank you for the efforts you all made to help us through this so that we can all come out of this stronger.

Veterans' Day Celebration

At 11am on November 11, we honored our staff who served our country in the armed forces in a celebration where we gifted our veterans with a special coin, pin and a badge to acknowledge and thank them for their service. We are honored to have these veterans (and those who were not in attendance) on staff, caring like family for each other, our patients, and our communities. Thank you for your service.

Theresa Milton 30-year Anniversary

Congratulations to Theresa Milton on celebrating 30 years at Research Medical Center. When she and her husband moved to Kansas City, she began her nursing position at RMC in 1992. She started in the neurology unit and worked as a floor nurse until 2003. She was the diabetes educator for many years and currently is the Clinical Nurse Educator for ortho/neuro/trauma/renal/transplant. She enjoys working here because of the people, she stated “they want you to succeed, there is a wide range of opportunity, and they want you to learn." In the past 30 years at RMC she has enjoyed watching the advancements made in robotics and procedures. Her hobbies are traveling to see her parents in Iowa, spending time with her family, she enjoys plants and flowers, health and wellness, hiking, walking trails, and she also teaches water aerobics during the week.

Celebrating our Colleagues During PBX Week

This week is PBX Week for our operators here at Research Medical Center. No one truly knows how hard they work or how difficult their jobs actually are. In addition to answering over 500 calls per day, they are also responsible for every Code we do here at the hospital. Their jobs are stressful and demanding. They work 24/7, 365 days per year. They are loyal and devoted and amazing. We are so proud of this team of hardworking colleagues: Lisa Bland, Gloria Brown, De’Borah Cowans, Debbie Crockett, Doris Greene, Shawn Morris, Jamie Schoffstall, Keila Simmons and Gloria Sultanik.

Celebrating our Colleagues During Medical Transportation Week

Last week was Medical Transportation Week. We celebrated the hard work and many, many steps our colleagues complete in a single day. Kelli Goodspeed, Medical Transportation Supervisor, said "the team that I have now is great; they're very dedicated, and they show up and are proud of getting their work done by getting our patients where they need to go. At the end of the day, we give each other high fives and we compare the amount of steps we all took in our days, seeing who had the most steps. In medical transportation, you get a lot of steps in a single day." Thank you to our Transportation colleagues for all that you do.

LGBTQ+ Colleague Network (Trans Awareness Week)

The invitation is open for any colleague interested in joining our new LGBTQ+ Colleague Network. The LGBTQ+ Colleague Network advances LGBTQ+ inclusion and embraces the unique value of each individual at HCA Healthcare. We strive to create a brave space that will provide opportunities for development and advance equity for our patients, colleagues and communities.

We are seeking team members who support these values and enjoy working to help everyone at HCA Healthcare feel more inclusive within our hospitals as well as support LGBTQ+ organizations around the Kansas City metro area. Learn more here.

The students were very excited to get to shadow in the facility and thankful for our staff who welcomed them into all of their areas. Huge shout to all the team members that helped to make it an amazing day for these future colleagues! Beyond that, Patra
