Patient Testimonial: Geriann Boyd, Neurosurgery

MRIs can provide answers to questions many people have when something doesn't feel right about their health.

In honor of National Radiologic Technology Week , we want to highlight Geriann's story. Through a physician ordered MRI, she was finally given the answers about the severe sciatic nerve pain she was experiencing which led her to get the procedure she needed to "get her life back" from Dr. Matthew Pierson, neurosurgeon at Research Medical Center.

“Referring me to Dr. Pierson was the best thing my PCP ever did,” said Geriann. Read more here.

Each month, we recognize a 2X10 Throughput Champion that discharges the most patients in the month by 10am. For the month of October, 7 East had 7 patients discharged by 10am and won the trophy as well as Jimmy John sandwiches for both shifts. Congratulations!

OSI Softball Tournament Raises Money for Boys & Girls Club of Greater Kansas City

Kudos to our OSI colleagues for raising money through their softball tournament, with proceeds going to the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Kansas City. From the KCU/HCA Research Medical Center KC Orthopaedic Surgery Residents, "we can’t thank everyone enough who donated and took time out of their busy schedules to support such an amazing cause. We all became physicians to support the betterment of our local community and we couldn’t be prouder of our program and everyone involved. We’re just getting started and can’t wait for the next year’s tournament!"

Research College of Nursing Trunk or Treat

Thank you to everyone who supported our annual RCON Trunk or Treat event by donating candy for us to pass out to local children. This year was extra special as the theme was El Dia de los Muertos, which was planned in support of Hispanic Heritage Month, acknowledging the cultures of our Latinx and Hispanic colleagues, patients and communities.

Celebrating our Colleagues During Radiologic Technology Week

The Radiology department at Research Medical Center is comprised of more than 130 individuals that perform nearly 120,000 procedures and examinations annually, including both main and Brookside. The department includes CT, MRI, nuclear medicine, sonography, radiation therapy, mammography, interventional radiology, diagnostic x ray, the OR imaging crew, and support/management staff. They are truly the “eyes” of Research Medical Center. We are grateful for the high level of competence and dedication this team provides to our patients daily. In addition to meeting the needs of our facilities 24/7, they continue to meet the needs of our surrounding community through the Schools of Nuclear Medicine and Radiologic Technology, graduating a total of 16 students each year.

Administrator on Call (AOC)

RMC ACNO Sophia Solomon was the AOC this past weekend. I had the privilege to round on our wonderful team members today. I can honestly say that all were in very good spirits. The staff on multiple units stated that today was a “good day’” I handed out sweet treats and all seemed very appreciative. Captured the 6 West team but all units were equally excited.
