We Show Up Spotlight

This month we are celebrating our Case Management colleagues! They were named our We Show Up Team of the Month. This team goes above and beyond every day with each other and our patients. This team shows up by:

• Assisting patients with post acute care needs after hospital discharge, sharing community resources, making connections, and ensuring patient preferences are considered.

• Assessing 11,000+ patients a year (nearly 1,200 patients per month) for risk factors and post hospital needs; assisting in the evaluation of ED patients needing resource support assistance.

• In the last year, the department has given more than $5,000 and countless hours to the KC community from service projects to volunteering.

• Recognizing each other through weekly “YOU Rock” recognitions, a monthly case manager Spotlight, and team building activities.

• Participating in RMC initiatives, including Adopt a Family, Pastoral Care Clothes Closet donations, Back to School Supply Drive, and the annual Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Event.

Thank you to this team all for everything you do for your colleagues and our patients. Give them well wishes here

Patient Testimonial: Carolyn Cook, MAKO Robot

Carolyn Cook, 75, has a new knee thanks to Dr. Terry Presley, orthopedic surgeon at Orthopedic Surgeons, Inc (OSI), and the MAKO Robot; a tool that allows surgeons to see and perform techniques where the human eye isn’t capable of. During her recovery, Carolyn insisted she had very little pain and that, according to her home health care provider, her recovery period went quicker than other patients who had similar knee replacements using different techniques. Learn about Carolyn’s surgery and recovery and get to know Dr. Terry Presley and how he gained his expertise, as well as the benefits of the MAKO Robot. Visit her testimonial page

Pink Week Updates

Trauma Services Director Serves Those Impacted by Hurricane Ian

We are proud that our very own Angela "Angie" Giegerich was selected as part of the Enterprise Preparedness & Emergency Operations Incident Support Team (IST). This is a team of individuals from various departments across the country who are specially trained to respond to support HCA facilities and operations during both natural and man-made events

"The response of HCA during a crisis like this is unparalleled. From toilet paper and food, to plywood and tarps, to mobile generators HCA’s mission was to support their employees who had been affected in any way. I was incredibly humbled by the commitment of staff from every department to be there for one another. So many who had lost homes or had damaged property were still present, looking for ways to help and support their fellow employees and patients. There is a great deal of perspective that is gained from seeing devastation like that created by Hurricane Ian and I was never more proud to represent HCA."

Celebrating Colleagues During Nuclear Medicine/Molecular Imaging Week

Last week was also Nuclear Medicine/Molecular Imaging Week. The team celebrated by hosting educational sessions from their Radiopharmaceutical reps for Nuclear Medicine students and Technologists, and hosted lunches for the staff.

The celebration of Spiritual Care Week provides an opportunity for chaplains and pastoral care counselors, educators and providers to share their story and to celebrate various ministries. Each year a new theme brings to the light a certain aspect of spiritual care as a focus. This year’s theme is “Relevant and Responsive in Times of Crisis. "

Get to Know Our Pastoral Care Team: Spiritual Care Week is October 23- 29

In preparation, our Pastoral Care team will be sharing interesting information about the department each week. To get started, let’s look at the makeup of the department :

• 4 pastoral residents who are here 40 hours a week, providing excellent pastoral care.

• 4 extended interns committed to a 9 month program; they are here 8 hours a week, and also serve on call.

• 1 staff chaplain, Su Hwa, who has been a part of RMC's family for six years; she started as a student here and is now a board certified professional c haplain.

• 1 administrative assistant, Nandita Jana, who is invaluable when it comes to keeping all the moving parts up and running, including maintaining RMC’s food pantry.

• 1 department director, Rachel Greiner, who trains the residents and interns, and works diligently to maintain the superb level of pastoral care that has been enjoyed by RMC for decades.

• If you plan to receive a vaccination against flu, please follow the instructions to register. By doing so, you will save time at the vaccination site.

• If you choose not to receive a flu shot, record your decision by October 31, 2022.

HR Tidbit: What to Know about HCA Short - Term Disability Plan Benefits

Due to the recent attempt s to steal from colleagues’ benefits accounts, we’ve partnered with ITG, Information Protection & Security and our vendors to increase protections for our colleagues and their personal information. To this end, we’re enabling multi factor authentication (MFA) for off network access to both eStub and HCAhrAnswers.com tomorrow, Sept. 13.

MFA means that you use two ways to verify that you are you making it more difficult for someone to pretend to be you. The first is your password; the second is a code sent to your personal email address or personal phone via text or call.

If you visit eStub (onlinewagestatements.com/parallon) or HCAhrAnswers.com from off the network, you will be prompted to complete MFA. Off the network means accessing these sites from your personal computer or phone, or an HCA Healthcare computer not connected to the HCA Healthcare network.

Our MFA tool is Identity Connect. You can quickly and easily verify your contact information or create a profile here

Identity Connect is already in use for remote access, password reset tool and off network access to Global HR (GHR). We want to ensure all colleagues are ready and able to enroll in benefits in November via HCAhrAnswers.

Take your shot to stop seasonal flu register your decision by October 31, 2022.
