That was just one of the nice things Frank, husband of Catherine who is a patient of Dr. Massey, oncologist in our Sarah Cannon Cancer Center, said about his wife's care team when he voluntarily called our central nursing office to share their experience at Research Medical Center.
He even called out "Vickie," also known as Victoria Jonas, Sarah Cannon Cancer Center Social Worker, for the work she has done for his family.
"She helped not a little bit but a lot, and we cannot be thankful enough for her. It is beyond words what she has done for us and we are so blessed to have met her." Learn more here.

Congratulations to Kimberly Peterson, EVS Technician, on receiving a BEE Award. Her colleague said, "she is such a vital part of my work day and is always quick to jump in if she sees something she can assist with! She turns over rooms so quickly for us and is always kind to patients. She even found and cleaned a fan for a patient who was hot after she delivered her baby. We didn’t even ask her for it, she just overheard a conversation we were having about not having any available. I know when I see her coming down the hall on my shift its gonna be a great day and patients will be care for with a lovely, cleaned room! Great work!” Send kudos to Kimberly.
DAISY Award Winner: Li sa Bales, RN, Inpatient Oncology
Congratulations to Lis a Bales, RN in our Inpatient Oncology Unit, for earning a DAISY Award. The patient who nominated her said, "she made me feel like I could tell her anything! She could tell that I was distressed and she offered to sit with me. She sat down and just started talking to me like I was a sister. I want this hospital to know how special she is and to know that if I don’t make it longer in this world, she made a difference for me in my moments of grief and sadness. #BurnAwareness Instagram Reel: Fire Pit Safety Tips from Dr. Garcia
We can all agree that the weather in Kansas City is all over the place lately. It’s cold one minute and warm the next. Whether you are keeping cozy by the fire or having an Fall gathering with friends and family around the fire pit, Dr. Garcia took to Instagram to tell us all how to have fun, stay warm, and stay out of the hospital when it comes to fire pit safety all season long. World Stroke Day, October 29
Saturday is World Stroke Day. Fast treatment is crucial to saving a life. We are proud to be part of our larger HCA Healthcare network, which collectively responds to strokes 43% faster than the national standard. On top of that, several months ago, our outstanding Stroke care team received yet another Get With The Guidelines Stroke Award from the American Heart Association, which they have maintained since 2017. Domestic Violence Awareness Month
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. We would like to recognize the hard work our Bridge Program colleagues with the Rose Brooks Center dedicate to our hospitals by continuously educating our staff and patients on screening and discussing domestic violence. With these efforts, we have safely provided 100 referrals to Rose Brooks from various RMC departments since January 2022. Host a Trunk for Trunk or Treat
If you or your department were to decorate a trunk for a Trunk or Treat, would you win? Volunteer your Halloween spirit and decorative skills on Saturday, October 29, from 10am -noon, with our Trunk or Treat event.
Research Student Nurses Association is partnering with RMC for the annual Trunk or Treat event with added Day of the Dead celebrations. This Hispanic holiday is a joyful time to remember late loved ones. Volunteers are needed with decorated trunks to pass out candy. Only 2 3 people per car. Prizes will be awarded for the best trunks. Crush the Crisis Opioid Take Back Day
Research Medical Center is committed to improving more lives in more ways. Since the COVID 19 pandemic began, nearly every state has reported an increase in opioid related deaths. Help us Crush The Crisis .
We are proud to partner with the Kansas City Metro Police squad in support of the DEA's National Prescription Drug Take Back Day in the fight against opioid misuse. Take action by turning in your unused and expired medication for safe disposal. Learn more on our Facebook event page about accepted items and NOT accepted items.

Halloween Costumes: Oct. 29-Oct. 31
Halloween costumes can be worn on Saturday 10/29, Sunday 10/30, and Monday 10/31.
A few reminders as we look forward to the holiday :
• As always, please refrain from any costumes that could be perceived as offensive to our patients or colleagues or disruptive to the workplace.
• Costumes must allow for proper use of PPE.
• Please do not wear Halloween masks or bring replica weapons, and be respectful of other cultures.
• For infection prevention purposes, please refrain from bringing in shared food for celebrations.
Pumpkin Decorating Contest
Get your creative ideas ready as the Pumpkin Decorating Contest starts next week! Pumpkins will be distributed to each department leader on Tuesday, October 18th. The decorated pumpkins are due to the cafeteria by 9am on Monday, October 31
For judging, please stop by cafeteria on Monday, October 31 over the lunch hour to cast your vote for the "best" pumpkin. Prizes will be given to the top three pumpkins!

It's Spiritual Care Week: Seeking Support and Quarterly Memorial Services
You can call a chaplain (*64120) anytime. They provide a ministry of presence for patients, families, and for colleagues when they need it. They are trained to meet patients and families where they are by providing emotional and spiritual support, and assess existential pain. They also offer quarterly memorial services in our chapel for the families of patients who passed away. They mail invitations to those families which is one reason why it’s so important to capture the next of kin information in Meditech when a patient passes away. Families are invited to attend in person or virtually if they prefer. Staff members are also invited to share in this special time of remembering. Not only do families appreciate
seeing those who cared for their loved ones, but it can be healing and meaningful to our care team as well. This week, they are collecting prayer requests and words of joy written on white ribbons that are tied on the branches of our Tree of Life that chaplains will pray over each morning.
