Hello! From the CNO

Frommy family to yours, Iwant to wish all of you a joyful holiday season. For those of you working the holidays this year, thank you! Iknowthe sacrifices you make each and every day by choosing to serve in our profession, and your dedication to our patients and each other does not go unnoticed.

As we put a close to 2022, Icontinue to be humbled by your grace and compassion. Just yesterday Ireceived a wonderful letter froma family whose mother had major elective surgery and spent almost a month with us. For the first time in many years she is sitting upright and living pain free. This is your work, your healing, your commitment to our craft in action. Ihope that each of you have found time to renewand connect with loved ones - or yourself - this season. Ilook forward to 2023 and the ability to be a part of this dynamic team.

Meet Your Leader

For as long as Ican remember, any time someone would ask me what Iwanted to be when IgrewIup, Iwould always say Iwanted to be a nurse. Inever remember ever wanting to be anything besides just that. Growing up, my momwas a nurse, and as a child, Iwould occasionally ride along with her on home health visits. Iremember watching her care for these individuals who couldn’t care for themselves and howgrateful they were to see

her. Iwas always in awe. Iknewat a really young age that was what Iwanted to do. In high school, Iworked towards that goal and accepted my first job in a local hospital at 17 years old delivering food trays to patients. When Igraduated high school, Ibecame a nursing assistant and did that while Iwent to nursing school. Igraduated nursing school in 2009 and was so excited to be an RN. Istill remember howexcited Iwas the first time Iwrote my name on a communication board under the “Nurse” section.

Ihave been blessed to gain a mixture of experience in several different areas throughout my career. Istarted my career in Med/Surg and Telemetry unit where Ilearned howto care for patients with a mixture of illnesses and needs. Ithen transferred to an Ambulatory Surgery Center where Igained experience with the surgical world and eventually landed my way in the ICU. Ihad a mentor in the ICUwho really encouraged me to become a charge nurse and this is when Ifound my passion for leadership. It’s funny howwe meet people in our journey who see something and growsomething that we sometimes didn’t knowwe even had a passion for. Iloved taking care of patients and their families when they most needed, but most of all Iloved taking care of the nurses who cared for those patients as well. Ifind it extremely fulfilling to stand beside nurses and care for patients, breakdown barriers, and to really celebrate their successes with them.

Iwas given the opportunity to come help the leadership teamfor a fewshort weeks in the summer of 2021 prior to accepting my current role. During my fewshort weeks here, what I remember most was the people. The way they genuinely cared about the patients, their families, the community and their peers. The services that we provide and the pride that people have when they come here is exactly what Ilove about being a part of this family now.

Outside of work, my passion is my friends and family. My husband of 17 years and Ihave three children! They keep us super busy between baseball, basketball, volleyball, softball, cheerleading, and whatever else they decide they want to try out. We own a couple acres where we share it with our three dogs, rabbit, and a turtle. Sometimes it truly feels like a 3ring circus. We love to travel with our kiddos and love to “glamp” (no tent camping for me) in the summer time. If we’re not at sports practice, you can probably find us at the lake playing on the water and hanging out in the sunshine.

Team Recognitions

Lindsay Goldammer, ACNO, conducted a Walk-a-Mile with Kristen Baker, RN, in ICU. "Kristen skillfully handled her patients making sure each patient had the attention they needed. She was so attentive and kind to an intubated patient who was struggling with his tube. She sat with him, held his hand and talked with him until he got more comfortable and calmed down. It was clear throughout my time with her that she is not only kind to her patients, but kind to everyone that she comes in contact with as everyone enjoyed stopping to talk with her. It was special to watch her genuine reactions with her patients and peers. Thank you for allowing me to follow you and learn, Kristen!"

Morgan Saxena, Directorof Marketing, conducted a Walk-a-Mile with Kathy Tucker, PCT, in inpatient rehab. "Ihad the pleasure of walking-a-mile with Kathy, PCT, in inpatient rehab. Kathy has been with RMC since 2016 and has loved being in this unit since day one. She spoke so highly of the teamwork within her department and how everyone works together to help patients (and one another). Kathy always had a smile on her face as she cared for her patients and ensure they were comfortable. Thank you, Kathy, for all you do and for the warmhug at the end!"
