For our patients and community, going back to school can be exciting as well as terrifying, particularly for kids who have already experienced bullying, anxiety, stress, depression or trauma. Students today are grappling with intense experiences, social media and school shooting drills.
KimLudwig, RPC Director of Clinical Operations and a licensed clinical social worker, talked with Kansas City Mom Collective a locally-focused parenting resource for moms and families, to provide tips on howto help parents. Kim discusses all things back to school and mental health, including at-home coping strategies, internet and social media boundaries, modeling healthy behavior, and utilizing valuable resources in our area. Christopher Dao, DO will be joining Kansas City Psychiatric Group with Dr. Khoury, Dr. King and Dr. Ceman on September 18th. Dr. Dao will be providing inpatient care for Adults and Geriatrics, as well as IOP, PHPand ECT. He is completing his residency at University of Kansas, Wichita Campus in June.

Dr. McCloskey is a clinical psychologist at the Kansas City VA. She is employed as the Local Recover Coordinator, providing coordination of care for our U.S. Veterans. Dr. McCloskey completed her Doctor of Philosophy in Counseling Psychology in 2008 at MUand started her psychology career at the Department of Veterans Affairs in 2011. She is an expert in Native American culture and mental health. The lunch and learn that she presented at RPC in July was: “Cultural Considerations When Working with Native American Clients.” The following is cultural background information about Dr. McCloskey: “IamfromKansas City and reside in Waldo. My father's family is fromthe Yankton Reservation/Yankton Dakota and the Rosebud Reservation/Sicangu Lakota in South Dakota. My father, Richard McCloskey, was a Combat Navy Veteran of WWII. My mother is frommixed European American and Delaware Nation, primarily fromAppalachia.”
