Legislative Assembly

Concepts & Situations Bill 2021 A bill for An Act Property law is the solutions to any dispute. A problem, glitches in the system, ‘fixes’, unplanned and unauthorised adaptations. These definitions showcase ‘issues’ do in fact exist. That currently, it is something unrecognised by the law. Transgressions are untangled and made to fit back to the standards we abide and if labelled a dispute, we must mould it back to make it compliant with the law. The logic of construction and the efficacy of repetition are things defaulted to in suburban housing. A family of 6 would be expected to use a home differently to a family of 3. So how can the same space be suitable for two different situations? This project seeks to use the current law within our advantage to create a new sequence of how we design things. It aims to give a status to these ‘problems’ allowing their mark to transition from unintentionally discovered to deliberate. An object and a law. To allow property formation to occur after the situation rather than before while giving us permission to design for situations instead. To have a relationship directly with the object itself, rather than property. We think architecture is an apartment building but in reality, the building is only possible because of these embedded objects. If laws cannot be broken, it might be in the making of laws that we need to focus our attention. 3

How to spot an object The objects can take form of any trangressive instance, dispute or common property which goes against building codes. On the next pages, are a set of examples of what these objects may look like and where you might spot one. The objects can be found anywhere. It is within us to look around for relationships.

Characteristics

Characteristics

- Conditions that go against property law

- The isolation of this particular condition

- The relationships extracted from the objectified moment

- Beginning with relationships rather than the rules

- A new invention to look at relationships before property law rather than after

- The change of material for this particular condition to concrete

- The properties the object comes with

- The relationships applied to a new space/condition/area

- The awkward moment - Ambiguities between margins and thresholds

- The new material thing

- Difficult situations that currently get simplified - Transgressional moments

- Becomes the generic in every instance - A celebration of the rules and regulations that go against current standards - The idea of being able to reimagine our relationships to eachother and with eachother to property

Construction Drawings Manufactured ready for purchase, the construction drawings allow for relationships to be used through the purchase of the individual objects. The formation of property to be constrcuted after the situation rather than before, prevailing architects remain relevant in a changing world.

The Objects

Concepts & Situations Bill 2021

Notes Things that are discordant alongside our non-willingness to accept difference - the current way of construction is an expectation to all remain the same because constructional logic is prioritised and not the logic of dwelling. The objects allow for this to become a rational way of decoding these transgressional relationships since it is known that it’s easier for us to think about buildings as a commodity or a rational thing. Becoming the initial formulation of the agreement that constitutes the proper object of architecture. Allowing for di erent and diverse programs, the new sequence aims to use the current law within our advantage, to give us permission to design for situations and have an understanding of the concept

Notes “Architecture has ceased to be an agency continuing the growth”. Carried away in the overall densification process, in the effort to be as efficient as possible. Architecture needs to engage with the world, adapt to situations and design for that instead to continue to remain relevant. "Property is the reified form of an object when its relation is subjectivity has become economic" - Adorno, Unhoused
