Transitory Architecture. The semester project was focused on Castlemaine, a rural town with a population of 8000 people, 100km’s from Melbourne. The project called for an urban building providing residential accommodation, sited in the town centre. This strategy of urban consolidation challenges the existing patterns of growth taking place around the periphery of Castlemaine. Consolidating the urban centre maximises proximity to shops, infrastructure and other services. The studio explored appropriate types of living, density, and siting strategies that could bring the town and new buildings into relationship.
