MY CHOSEN THEME IS: The natural world, however, I would like to show human interaction with nature

MY PHOTOSHOOT IDEAS ARE: Literal idea: My idea is to use other photographer’s work in order to influence and create my own phot Technical idea: I will use all different camera angles at different times of day to give different affects phasise my ideas. Symbolic idea: I want to show how humans have affected the environment. Cultural idea: This idea does not affect me directly, however, the urbanisation of the area means that mans are also gradually destroying nature which may in turn affect me later in life. Letha Wilson Holey Wave Lettha Wilson’s aim is turning flat images into sculptural objects. Her photographs draw attention to the relationship between architecture and nature. Her work shows American landscapes being altered and developed to show a manmade contrast to the natural subjects of her prints, while their final textures also refer back to natural terrains. In response to her work I have taken a number of photographs using a similar technique, cutting into them and creating man made folds in the work, making them three dimensional.

My Interpretation

My original idea when taking these photographs was to merely cut out the holes and fold them back, just like Letha Wilson had done. However, I decided to print off another one of my photographs and further develop it by placing it behind the original. I think that this makes the piece look more interesting and eye- catching. To capture allaspects of the piece I photographed it from different angles using a torch as a light source which helped me to manipulate the shadows to where I wanted them to be.

My Interpretation

Depth of field

I took these photographs in Virginia Waters whilst doing my photoshoot. I liked the way the pathway came to a blunt stop at the end, causing the beholder to wonder where it leads to. The original photograph that I took looked similar to Jane Shi’s, however, I then further edited it in order to create the same level of darkness that is featured in her work. I did this by using bridge and camera raw. First I altered the clarity of the image to +80 which made it a lot more crisp and sharp. I then went on to darken the photograph by taking the ‘blacks’ down to -100 to which I did the same with ‘shadows’. Furthermore, I then noticed that the pathway was not as light as Shi’s so I corrected this by increasing the ‘whites’ and the ‘highlights’ to +65. Finally, to alter the photograhph even more I increased the contrast between black and white to +55 which was my final touch to create this piece. Although the pathway and the trees look aesthetically pleasing, it represents the difference between natural and unnatural.
