Nascent Karposh.

My MArchD second year project Inhabiting Karposh, a suburb of Skopje is hard, housing is unaffordable, young people are stuck living with parents; lacking space and developers exploit public space. In response, new typologies of addition have emerged, from enclosure of balconies to exoskeletons. We can speculate narratives of these additions and the informal network of their makers; expansion of this economy could allow community cooperation and more radical additions. Revisiting Yugoslavian models of housing, I formed a new typology of community living, playing on the addition typologies evident in Karposh. The community takes over public space and constructs child forms. Parent block residents are allocated volumes in new child mast forms. Prefabricated capsules infill the volumes made by the ‘maker’s’ economy. The space between becomes an enlivening hearth space. Capsules contain interchangeable panels, configured to suit personal needs. See instagram for full description
